NAVIGATION MAP

[We have to say this stuff again for the new subscribers and the friends to which you’ll be passing this Brigada Today!] Below is a chart to point to the conferences established thus far. Each line represents an entirely different conference, with an entirely different set of participants. You can be a member of more than one conference, but to do so, you must subscribe to each conference individually. Subscribing to the top level Brigada conference does not automatically get you mail from each of the subgroups. Remember that you can figure out the name of any conference by starting at the top and left and working over. To subscribe to any of the conferences below, just send email to href="file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Julie/Desktop/Brigada%20Today/hubatxcdotorg">hubatxcdotorg with the word “subscribe”, followed by the conference name (include the hyphens in the conference name, but lose the quotes in “subscribe”). For example, to subscribe to the first subconference listed, your message to href="file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Julie/Desktop/Brigada%20Today/hubatxcdotorg">hubatxcdotorg would read,
subscribe brigada-albania-durres

KURDS COMING TO CHRIST

Thanks to Bob Skiles, who sent word that over 100 Kurds had recently come to Christ in one of the greatest “people movements” of our day. “It seems that it is definitely the Savior’s hour and the appointed time for the Kurds. Let’s pray that God would multiply it and increase it!” Amen! Thanks Bob.

ADOPT-A-PEOPLE CLEARINGHOUSE TO DEMONSTRATE PEOPLE-PROFILER

If all goes as planned, Bob Binkley of the AAP Clearinghouse will be demonstrating a new tool at GCOWE. Marv Bowers and others have worked together to develop a piece of software that fits on a floppy and stands alone. Execute it and it walks you through the process of developing a standard description of a particular people or city in such a way that the information will be consistent with other reports from around the world. Using this disk, anyone, anywhere will be able to generate people profiles according to the specified model preferred by the AAPC. Look for Bob at the AAPC booth.
--------------------------------------

… AND THE PEOPLES INTERACTIVE DATABASE

Bob will also be showing a sample of the new Peoples Interactive Database application that he has developed on behalf of the AAP Clearinghouse. With this application, a user can find out which mission organizations, churches, or individuals are working among a particular people or city. One can search according to several keys and look up “needle in a haystack” data. Again, find Bob at the AAPC booth with Frank Kaleb Jansen.

A “LONG” CORRECTION

Forgive our mix-up last week. Justin Long used to work with AIMS but now works with David Barrett! We reported it the other way around. Our apologies. Thanks to Justin for not being angry! :-)
--------------------------------------

TAKING “AIMS” ON TARGETS IN FUTURE

In a phone interview yesterday, we learned more about what AIMS is aiming for. Lawrence Schrank explained that AIMS is an affiliate of CBN and is “charged with the task of developing ongoing strategic partnerships with our current 106 member agencies regarding missions focused concerns. Dr. Foltz our founder, is professor of missiology at Regent University. Dr. Barrett has recently joined him on the staff at Regent. We are going forward with plans to use Web technology to help facilitate interest in missions. As my personal background is in 3-d computer visualization, I have for years waited for an opportunity to put it to work for the kingdom. We currently have several world class technologists consulting on the various projects we envision. You can see our meager efforts on the Web … http://beacon.regent.edu/AIMS/home.html There is much, much more to come!” Specifically, Lawrence hopes to create a separate set of multi-media rich pages on the www for each of the least evangelized people groups, beginning with the people groups living in the 100 Gateway Cities. In keeping with its goal of reducing duplication and fostering networking partnerships, Brigada wants to encourage and spur on Lawrence and his efforts at AIMS. Lawrence feels the same way. Although AIMS places top priority on offering services to the churches and agencies that have “joined” AIMS ($240/year), the staff there desires to create links and networks with every effort to reach the unreached. Watch AIMS over the next few months and get ready for some exciting developments with them riding shotgun in this great global adventure!!!
--------------------------------------

PRAYING THROUGH THE 100 GATEWAY CITIES OF THE 10/40 WINDOW

… is ready to order from the Christian Information Network, 11025 State Hwy. 83, Colorado Springs, CO 80921 (Tel. 719-522-1040). Send a check for the amount of $8.95 and make sure you note clearly that you want PRAYING THROUGH THE 100 GATEWAY CITIES. (They have other books that cost the same amount.) Written by Pete Wagner, Stephen Peters, and Mark Wilson, this book will “walk you through the window!” As you probably have already heard, the “window” refers to an area between the 10th and 40th latitudes stretching from N. Africa east through Asia. Most of the world’s Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists live there, perhaps making up as much as 95% of the unevangelized world! In addition, 84% of the world’s poor are there as well. Keep in mind that this is not a tightly organized “box” window, but rather, a roughly circumscribed general metaphor that will help us draw attention to some very needy places. Also, remember that there are unreached people living all over the globe, on every continent, in every country. It’s just that the 10/40 window seems to have less opportunity to hear and obey at this time.

WATCH NEXT WEEK FOR THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE SPECIAL GCOWE UPDATE “CHANNEL”

Get up-to-the-minute reports on what’s happening at the Global Consultation on World Evangelism, free, right here through the Brigada family of networks. In an effort to help our cost-conscious subscribers who won’t want to get the near daily GCOWE briefings, we’re creating a special GCOWE “News Channel”. Watch next week for instructions on how to jump on board if you want to “read all about it!”

BRIGADA PARTICIPANT SEEKS NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES FOR NATIVE AMERICANS

Thanks to John GrosVenor for seeking info. on working with native Americans. “I’m particularly interested in dialogue with other Native American Christians in this program. So will accept any conversation that comes my way…. I’m an enrolled member of the Echota Tsalagi (Cherokee) Tribe of Alabama.” If you know of info. for John, send it directly to him at gros112atuidahodotedu  (gros112atuidahodotedu)   and pray for his wife, who has been diagnosed with cancer. Thanks John.
--------------------------------------

HOW SHALL WE THEN LIVE?

AIMS is a mobilization and networking service based in Virginia Beach, VA. Justin Long, who previously worked with David Barrett, is helping AIMS with computer programming and research. He wrote to Brigada this past week….

“How shall we then live? The reality, as of 1990: 1.2 billion people who have never heard the Gospel. 1.7 billion Christians, representing $8.9 trillion in Global Annual Income. 700 million Christians believe bringing the Gospel to the world is the paramount responsibility of the church. 260,000 missionaries labor in Christianized lands, among the heavily evangelized, spending $7.5 billion a year. Less than 40,000 workers with less than $100 million to spend labor among those who have never heard that Jesus can save. We SAY telling the untold is our priority. We send very few workers and do little to support them. And while you read this, 7 people died never knowing that Jesus is Lord. May we truly focus on the “least of these” — the ones who have never heard!”

LEAST EVANGELIZED PEOPLES LIST WILL GIVE DEFINITION TO THE TASK REMAINING

The list of the 2400 Least Evangelized People Groups mentioned in last week’s Brigada Today will give definition to the task remaining. Released by Ron Rowland and the Peoples Information Network, the list provides a blueprint for just how much of the task remains. For example:

  • 101 different groups are listed for China alone, with a total population of 242,148,114 people.
  • In India, 803,587,708 people are listed in 233 groups.
  • In Indonesia, 154 groups are listed with a total of 96,391,469 members.
  • Sudan alone is the home of 111 groups totaling 30,326,834 people.

Put all 2400 groups (actually 2468) together and what do you have? 2,505,364,391 real live souls, many of which are totally out of touch with a valid opportunity to know Jesus as a personal savior. Again, thanks to Ron, PIN, and all who participated in this effort. May God bless John Robb and the many others who will be trying to help us finish the task of giving them at least a beachhead opportunity to hear the gospel. Let’s stop and take a moment to pray for the groups that will be meeting in Seoul… and all over the globe in the months ahead, with hope of helping in this tremendous and all important task.

--------------------------------------

FIRST WAVE OF TROOPS LEAVE FOR GCOWE

They’re already departing! Pete Holzmann left this past week. And in the coming days, the entire Int’l office for AD2000 & Beyond will literally be packed up and moved to Seoul! Pray for the AD2000 leadership as they make their way to Korea and ask God to smooth the road before them.

SAMPLE OF A BRIGADA CONFERENCE

Are you wondering just what goes on in those layers under this ‘top level’ in the Brigada family of networks? Here’s a sampler. A conference moderator from Dayton, Ohio, writes asking members of a new conference to introduce themselves (this sample discussion comes from the brigada-peoples latam conference, but the same thing can happen for your target area!). A missionary writing via Compuserve from Montevideo answers back the following day with an introduction, expressing his desire to learn all the more about materials produced in Spanish for Latin America and especially, for continued research on ‘folk religions’ in South America. A few hours later, another conference participant, this time writing via the INTERNET from Guayaquil, Ecuador, answered back with a description of a continent-wide conference next year that will, as a major prong of its intended purpose, hope to provide a forum for sharing printed materials. He also wrote, “On the folk part of religion, I would highly recommend the book published by Baker called Communicating Christ in Animistic Cultures by Dr. Gailyn Van Rheenen. I have read the book and have seen the movie (taken his class). He teaches at ACU. Also the book Crisis in Latin America touches on the Catholicism. It is put out by Moody Press and the authors are Nunez and Taylor.” Now perhaps for some, those books are already on the shelf, well-worn. For others, Brigada can provide just the networking they need to be all the more effective at reaching their part of the world for Him. Thanks to Eric, Larry, Bill, and the others on the brigada-peoples-latam conference (13 participants) and thanks to the over 300 others who are making Brigada work today to give a brighter hope for the world tomorrow!

GLOBAL PRAYER DIGEST ONLINE JUMPS TO 65 SUBSCRIBERS

Thanks to the personnel of the US Center for their continued work for the kingdom! On a daily basis, they keep pumping out the prayer and mobilization information, and the Global Prayer Digest, both in print and online, is an excellent example. To join the 65 others who have already subscribed, send email to hubatxcdotorg  (hubatxcdotorg)   with only the words
subscribe brigada-pubs-globalprayerdigest

in the text of the message. By the way, the Mission Frontiers staff is hard at work preparing to go online too! So while you’re at it, add this line as well…
subscribe brigada-pubs-missionfrontiers

Subscribers will receive an index via email, allowing them to download just the articles they want.

SEVEN NEW PROJECTS READY FOR ACTION!

  • brigada-cities — is like brigada-peoples, a depository for profiles and networking information. You need not “subscribe” to the service to do a “filelist” or “get” files. Note that the area is brand new. We’ll be posting announcements here as it gets off the ground. Viv Grigg and others will be helping make this file area a virtual shopping mall for information on the world’s least evangelized cities. Stay tuned here for more info as this project develops.

  • brigada-india — features regular updates on major projects and people group info on this amazing and complex subcontinent. Out of this conference, we hope to spawn many new “sub-conferences” as cities and people groups become the focus of specific partnerships and projects.

  • brigada-orgs-uscwm-robby — is unique, in that it is a kind of ongoing publication, the thoughts and reflections of Robby Butler, who serves as Special Assistant to Ralph Winter and head of Research and Development at the US Center for World Mission. It was his staff that was entrusted with launching the Global Prayer Digest Online, now a favorite of several Brigada participants.

  • brigada-peoples-makua — will serve as a rallying post for those involved in reaching the Makua tribe in northern Mozambique and southern Tanzania. Subscribe now if you like, but be patient as this conference gets off the ground.

  • brigada-projects-envision96 — will give progress reports on a major missions convention/expo, Envision ’96, planned for Oct. 31-Nov. 3, 1996, in Lexington, KY, specifically designed for Christian churches and churches of Christ, but guests welcome. This Brigada conference was formerly known as brigada-projects-lex96.

  • brigada-ukraine-crimea — will report on events and partnerships forming up to reach out to the Muslim Crimean Tatar in southern Ukraine and on efforts to reach their ukrainian neighbors also living on the peninsula. What a complex order! With nearly 300,000 Muslim Tatars having moved back home after 50 years in exile, the peninsula becomes a more complicated landscape with each passing day!

  • brigada-us-prayertrack — will, among other things, provide a means of receiving the AD2000 & Beyond’s US Prayer Track newsletter, the Prayer Alert (Watchman), edited by Eddie Smith in Houston, TX — online! From this “channel”, Brigada viewers will be able to tune in to prayer mobilization efforts specifically gearing up here in the USA… but with global ramifications.

Again, for newcomers, to subscribe to any of the above conferences, just send email to hubatxcdotorg  (hubatxcdotorg)   (not brigadaatbrigadadotorg — a common mistake) with only the words
subscribe brigada-us-prayertrack

in the body of the message text. Replace the conference name used in the example above with the one(s) of your choice.

WANT A FREE “PRIMER” ON HOW TO GET HOOKED UP ON EMAIL OVERSEAS???

David Hatch has prepared a “Frequently Asked Questions” file that just might take care of your query! Get it on the WorldWide Web by pointing your browser to http://www.iclnet.org/pub/resources/text/stn/stn-home.html or, if you’re not on the web, write David at dhatchatnetnetdotnet  (dhatchatnetnetdotnet)   to get a copy emailed to you. Thanks for the work, David!

A SYMPHONY OF CONCERTS OF PRAYER

On the evening of Saturday Oct. 21,1995, there are scheduled roughly 500 Concerts of Prayer around the USA. With October being the month set aside for “Praying through the Window II — Praying for the 100 Gateway Cities”, these concerts could be monumental in their effect for unreached people worldwide! (News about these concerts overheard on a Brigada conference…)
--------------------------------------

BRIGADA WORLDWIDE WEB PAGE EXPANDED AND REVISED

If you haven’t visited Brigada‘s worldwide web page this past week, then you haven’t seen the latest. Added are a complete set of archives for the Brigada Today bulletins, making it possible for you to “point and click” at the particular issue for which you’re searching… and lots more. In the works are plans for a feature that will let you “point and click” to subscribe to the distribution list or email conference of your choosing — one of the requests we’re hearing most often. This would signal a new day for users who don’t want to have to learn to send command lines to the hub. But remember, we’ll continue to keep Brigada email-based, since many do not have access to the worldwide web yet, especially among majority world peoples. Thanks again to Jonathan Marsden and Bob Sutterfield of CrossConnect for help in posting these new html markup pages.
--------------------------------------

HAVE YOU HEARD THE LATEST?
MAF DOES FELLOW MISSIONS A BIG FAVOR!

Thanks loads to Mission Aviation Fellowship, who recently chose to pick up sponsorship for CrossConnect. (Remember that CrossConnect is the agency that services the infrastructure that makes it possible to bring you Brigada.) Rather than pelt their email boxes with tons of form letters (they’ve got better things to do than read the same thank you note from over 300 of us!), let’s all just chime in on this one big note of appreciation to the folks at MAF with “sky-high dreams”! It goes without saying that, if it weren’t for your sacrificial generosity to help make CrossConnect possible, we here at Brigada just wouldn’t be here this morning online together!!!! So 305 times over this morning……………… THANKS MAF!!!!!!!!!!!
--------------------------------------

STAY TUNED HERE FOR UP-TO-THE-MINUTE NEWS ON GCOWE!

Not everyone was able to plan to take off work (from actually doing missions! :-) ) or put together funds to go to the Global Consultation on World Evangelization (GCOWE) in Seoul, May 16-26. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t get the exclusive news as it happens! We’re already at work preparing several ways for you to get the same kinds of daily bulletins that we will be getting right on site! For example, the 4000 or so delegates at GCOWE will receive a “daily newspaper” each evening, filling them in on events at the various tracks and country delegation meetings (even those of us who are attending will want to know what’s going on in other venues!!!). This newspaper is being edited by none other than Rick Wood, Exec. Ed. of Missions Frontiers, the news organ of the US Center for World Missions. Rick is a Brigada participant and has agreed to work with us to “post” it online to you each and every day right here on the Brigada family of networks. Those wishing to get the daily “latest” from Korea will only need to subscribe to
brigada-projects-gcowe

(to be launched this coming week) to get a daily digest sheet which will contain an index to larger “full size article” files out on the brigada-projects-gcowe conference area. In this way, you’ll get via email a sampling of “tidbit news” that can serve as a gateway to getting just the news you want, no more, no less. So if Rick does a focus one day on a special plenary presentation by John Robb and Ron Rowl and, for instance, you’ll be able to see a one or two sentence summary of the presentation on the sheet that’s emailed to you. At the end of this blip will be the file name that you can “get” from the conference area if you want to get the “whole story”. (Note: Are you new to the Brigada family of networks??? No problem. Just send email to hubatxcdotorg  (hubatxcdotorg)   with only the words
get help-detailed

in the body of the message to get a four page help file so you can practice downloading files before GCOWE.) Granted, those with WorldWide Web access have it just a bit easier! Simply point your browser to http://www.AD2000.org/gcowe95/gcowe95.html and start reading!!! That’s it! (Note that unix servers are all case-sensitive so be sure and type the address exactly as it appears above.) Bob Sutterfield, serving as a volunteer with CrossConnect, has already posted a homepage there for users to work on today. This area will be expanded each and every day as the conference transpires in Korea. Thanks to Pete Holzmann, Bob and Jonathan, again, for making this possible. COMPUSERVE USERS, don’t forget that you now get 3 hours of worldwide web access free each month! Download the new tool by using the go command, “go netlauncher”. After 3 hours, Cserve will be charging $2.50/hour… still a bargain if you’re not a heavy www user. Do get the launcher in April and practice on it in advance… check out the AD2000 page and set a “Favorite Places” bookmark there while you can work on April’s allotment of time. (By the way, last week we reported that the service seemed very slow.. but this must have been due to the fact that the tool had just been introduced that very morning. Now it appears to have picked back up to fairly standard rates. But don’t forget that some www pages are loaded with graphics and they download slowly on anyone’s service, if your access is via a modem. The faster your connection (e.g., 14.4 versus 2400), the better off you are. (Those with 2400 baud modems will find the www a real yawn :-o.)

--------------------------------------

NEWS FLASH – PIN

Ron Rowland the Peoples Information Network (PIN) has just sent Brigada a copy of the 2400 Least Evangelized People Groups of the world. We’ll now be studying this data to figure out the best way to make it available to the widest audience… but in the meantime, here’s an intro. by Ron and the folks at PIN:

“What: Another List… and a list of what?

Yes, but this one is different. This is the next step of a process to build a meaningful, understandable listing of peoples. It is a list of lists! Tightly locked into a unique “people code” it reflects the various approaches to the listing of ethnolinguistic peoples most in need of a broad cross section of churches.

In fact, it contains all the known peoples (about 4,900) that either:

  1. Are deemed to be most needing a church planting movement in their midst, or
  2. Have insufficient access to the Gospel, or
  3. Are less than 2% Christian, or
  4. Are identified as unreached and/or adoptable peoples for prayer and mission.

It contains a list of every known “least evangelized” ethnolinguistic people within every country of the world.

It is more than just one list: There are three groupings of lists … [which will all be compiled into a book to be made available to all next month].

  • The first group (Section One: pages 13 to 112) is organized by affinity bloc and contains two lists under each of the twelve affinity blocs:
    1. Peoples with a population of 100,000 or more listed by country and language,
    2. The summary list of all the least evangelized peoples.
    3. The second group is the complete integrated list of least evangelized peoples sorted by country and language.
    4. The third group (Section Four) contains the Priority List of least evangelized peoples with 10,000 or more individuals each, sorted by country and language.

This is the target list of the AD 2000 & Beyond Movement that serves the procedural goal of a church for every people by the year 2000, which means: to make a priority of establishing, as a minimum, a pioneer church planting movement within every significant ethnolinguistic people within every country of the world by December 31, 2000.

This is the list upon which the goal of a church for every people by the year 2000 will be evaluated.

It is, of course, only a beginning. It is imperfect. It will be refined/updated as it is used.”

Thanks to Ron, and all who cooperated to make this possible, including the USCWM, Wycliffe, SIL, the Southern Baptists, Operation World, the Adopt-A-People Clearinghouse, PIN, and many others! We’re all in your debt as we set about trying to seek God’s will in reaching the groups you’ve quantified for us!

270 have subscribed to this top level conference, Brigada

You can be a member of more than one conference, but to do so, you must subscribe to each conference individually. Subscribing to the top level Brigada conference does not automatically get you mail from each of the subgroups. (If it did, you’d go crazy with mail!!! :-)) To subscribe to any of the conferences, just send email to hubatxcdotorg  (hubatxcdotorg)   with the word “subscribe” followed by the conference name (include the hyphens in the conference name, but lose the quotes in “subscribe”). For example, to subscribe to the albania-durres subconference listed, your message to hubatxcdotorg  (hubatxcdotorg)   would read,

FEATURED CONFERENCE – NEW ‘BOOKSHELF’ FOR THE NATIONS OF THE WORLD:BRIGADA-PEOPL

The depository is ready. Read below for the exciting developments in preparing online unreached people profiles… by GCOWE! There are already six profiles available… but there will soon be many more. Getting a list of them is simple. Just email hubatxcdotorg  (hubatxcdotorg)   with only the words
filelist brigada-peoples

in the body of the text. (Brigada regulars will notice that this is one ‘conference’ that you don’t have to join in order to use. It has been set up specifically as a ‘bookshelf’ location. You need not subscribe.) In a few moments, you’ll receive a list of the people profiles available for downloading. Pick out a profile, then send email to hubatxcdotorg  (hubatxcdotorg)   with only the words
get mozambique-ndau

in the body of the text ( of course, replace this particular people group name with that of your choice from the file list). Note that in this new file area, the profiles no longer begin with the prefix, “peoples-“, since the entire location is dedicated to this topic.

ADOPT-A-PEOPLE CLEARINGHOUSE & COMPANY MOBILIZE FOR ONLINE ACTION

Thanks to representatives from over half a dozen or so cooperating agencies, keyboards and scanners will fire up Monday morning to begin the process of transferring literally hundreds of people profiles to electronic (machine-readable) format! This initiative, spawned in part through a meeting last Friday at the Adopt-A-People Clearinghouse in Colorado Springs (for which many of you prayed), will hopefully result in the availability of abundant information on the peoples of the 100 Gateway Cities as early as May 15, the eve of the Global Consultation on World Evangelization in Seoul, South Korea. God has used several people to bring about this chain of events, but clearly among those at the vanguard of the effort are Bill and Amy Stearns. In a note to Brigada late last night, Bill wrote, “… Lo and behold, we got a team of 10 together today (representing 6 different organizations) to scour the Adopt a People Clearinghouse for background info on the peoples of the 100 Gateway Cities. We finished compiling the stuff, it’s being photocopied now, and the writing process will kick in as of Monday!” This information will be applied in several ways. First, it will be available for downloading from the new Brigada-peoples “bookshelf.” (Note that where necessary, for security in limited access nations, all names will be removed prior to posting.) Second, it will be converted to html code for posting on Brigada‘s Worldwide Web page. Third, Bill Dickson and the folks at Global Mapping will add it to the CD-ROM that they’re preparing for distribution all over the globe in June. For mobilization to occur effectively, we have to have access to good information… and now, thanks to God’s grace, power and answered prayer, we’re one step closer to that goal!

TOOL OF THE WEEK – COMPUSERVE ADDS WORLDWIDE WEB READER… TODAY!

For those Compuserve users waiting for access to a more graphical way to access information on the INTERNET, wait no longer! As of today, you can download a copy of Compuserve’s own special edition of Spry-Mosaic Browser for Compuserve and begin surfing the web immediately! Best of all, included in the monthly base rate of $10 (Basic Services) will be 3 free hours of WWW time per month! For instructions and obtaining “NetLauncher”, GO NETLAUNCHER. Note that after 3 hours of use in any one month, you will be billed at a rate of $2.50/hour, well below the cost of most other service providers. However, if your web use climbed above 7 hours per month, you’d be better off with Netcom, which charges $19.95 for 40 hours per month of WWW (or any other INTERNET tool) use. Don’t forget to stop in and see Brigada’s WWW page at http://www.xc.org/Brigada/Brigada.html. Watch for upgrades on that page in the very near future. While you’re at it, check out a web page from a sister online publication, MissionNet: http://www.iclnet.org/pub/resources/text/mnet/mweb-home.html

[Note about NetLauncher: Let’s be patient as Cserve works the bugs out of the system. My own trial of this tool this morning resulted in very slow access times compared to using Netscape browser on Netcom. But we’re confident that they’ll fine tune it over the next few weeks. Also, if you normally access the WWW through another browser, such as Netscape, beware that the Cserve install will try to replace your WinSock driver with its own proprietary Winsock.dll in the C:\windows subdirectory. A word to the wise…. :-) ]

--------------------------------------

DOES WWW ACCESS MEAN BRIGADA WILL CEASE OPERATING EMAIL COMMANDS?

Nope! One user wrote this past week, “While it is true that WWW is easier to navigate, I for one do not anticipate having access to it, so I hope that you are not implying that email access will be curtailed once AOL and Cserve offer WWW.” True… and much of the rest of the world will be without a graphical user interface to the INTERNET for at least the next couple of years. So we’re continually searching for ways that we’ll be able to offer both options, especially because of those who will be gaining access to the INTERNET in majority world nations.

IT’S WORKING!!!

We wish you could see the action taking place on the various Brigada conferences … Here’s a comment from Tom Alberts, as posted on the Brigada-peoples-arab group…

“PRAISE GOD! I couldn’t help but say this repeatedly as I read Doug and Al’s response to Jim’s mail. It’s working! The network is working. It is just this kind of connection and cooperation we need to finish the task that remains in our generation (see attached file below ). May this kind of activity increase and abound on this and other missions networks! Needless to say, I am very excited about the networking possibilities that lie ahead of us as God takes another technological tool and uses it for His great purpose – the reaching of the unreached peoples of the world. Carry on dear brethren, and let us unite together in prayer and labor, faith and love, to that glorious end. The Lord bless and keep you all for His great name’s sake.
Tom Alberts, GLM

GLOBAL PRAYER DIGEST ONLINE VIA BRIGADA IS A HIT!

One Brigada participant wrote this past week to say, “Thanks for your testimony re GPD online [in the Brigada Today, April 7]. I have found the same thing to be true at my household. We are praying more regularly and consistently for these daily featured peoples due to the regularity with which we find them in our e-mailbox and print them out to be prayed for and shared with others…. I hope this is an encouragement to you and to those who labor to produce them. God bless you brother! Tom.”

It’s simple [and free] to subscribe. Just send email to hubatxcdotorg  (hubatxcdotorg)   with only the words,
subscribe brigada-pubs-globalprayerdigest

in the body of the text. The GPD is sent out by Elise Christol, Computer Services, USCWM, Pasadena, CA and is produced by the Frontier Fellowship.

A MOVEMENT THROUGHOUT THE LAND…

We live in a day when the Spirit of God is working to bring revival and renewal throughout the globe. Witness this report from Wheaton College, written by Wheaton student Ryan Smith, relayed to us late last night from Brigada participant, Bob Skiles.

“…There wasn’t any pressure placed on the roughly 500 students to come forward, but people came. In fact, they kept coming until 6:00 A.M. and there were still students waiting in line to confess sin. It was a mutual decision to reconvene our time of confession until that night at 9:30 P.M. For the next three days Monday-Wednesday, students and faculty met from 9:30 P.M.-2:00 A.M. to “…confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed” (James 5:16). The confessions were sincere, honest, orderly, and honoring to God. Here is a common example of what happened in this time of confession: A guy would come up and confess his struggle with lust, and how he would like prayer to have victory in this area of his life. After he was finished many students (usually some of his friends) would come forward to lay their hands on him and pray for him. A visible result of the times of confession could be seen in a pile on the stage. Students were encouraged to rid themselves of any “hidden provision” which were hindering the victory over sin in their lives. Piles of Pornography, CD’s, Drugs and Alcohol, fashion magazines, credit-cards, etc. were put into big garbage bags and destroyed. No one, except the Holy Spirit, was forcing the students to get rid of the things that caused them to stumble. The last student came forward to confess sin on early Thursday morning. It was agreed that we, (about 1500 of us: students, faculty, and people in the community) would meet together for a time of testimony and praise to our God…. For about the last couple hours of the Thursday night meeting, the focus of the night turned towards missions, and evangelizing the lost. There was a call for any students who felt that God was leading them into full-time Christian ministry or missions to come forward and be prayed for. Hundreds of students came forward, including myself. Then we worshipped God. It was a time of worship that I will not soon forget. Jesus was honored, praised, glorified, and magnified, and the students rejoiced and overflowed with gratitude to our Awesome God…. I WOULD HOPE THAT YOU WOULD BE PRAYING FOR THE MEMBERS OF THE WHEATON COLLEGE COMMUNITY including myself, that we would love God with all our hearts, soul, mind and strength, and love our neighbor as ourselves….”

Let’s pray not just for Wheaton, but for this kind of response all around the planet!

DALLAS/FORT WORTH MOBILIZERS CONFERENCE OFF AND RUNNING

Thanks to John Anderson, missions-minded believers from the Dallas/Fort Worth area are going to find it a lot easier to talk to one another about missions news and opportunities these days. John wants to experiment with a Brigada conference aimed at helping aid missions mobilization on a local scale, with a view of making a bigger impact globally. The conference will allow for announcements and resource-sharing, especially related to ACMC and AIMS conference announcements, descriptions, etc., College/School missions conferences, “Concerts of Prayer” locations & schedules, Church missions conferences, Church missions seminars, ISI opportunities and activities at local secular universities, Local people group outreach (Kurds, Bosnians, Russians Jews, etc.), Perspectives schedules, Church short term projects in need of people, supplies, prayer, etc., Amateur Radio Clubs and Resources in the area, E-Mail resources in the area, etc. D/FW area participants can join by sending email to hubatxcdotorg  (hubatxcdotorg)   with the only line of the message being:
subscribe brigada-projects-dfwmobilizers

This DFW conference is already launched! You may join at any time! Godspeed John!

BRIGADA PARTICIPANT WELCOMES PEOPLE PROFILES

Have you tried to retrieve any of the people group profiles on Brigada. Tom did: “That profile on the people group from Morocco was great! If [future ones]… are of that quality, I’d be delighted :-). Thanks for your faithfulness. This network is a real blessing through which we can bless the nations. God’s grace be richly upon you all.” Why not try retrieving the Morocco profile that Tom mentioned today!? Just send email to hubatxcdotorg  (hubatxcdotorg)   with the only line in the text being:
get brigada peoples-morocco-ishilhayn

The profile will come back into your email box within 4-5 minutes. Last night, a college president (with too much mail to read each day!) asked if there was any way to ‘index’ all the Brigada information. Great question. As far as files go (“gets”), we’re trying to use file names that, for the most part, explain the purpose/application for a file. But any input would be greatly appreciated. Many online users say that the WorldWide Web will be much easier to navigate, since it will require only a double-click of the mouse to go from one area to the next, or from one map or document to the next. That’s why we’re trying to experiment with WorldWide Web page development now. When the WWW becomes accessible to most email users (e.g., when AOL and Cserve open the door), we’d like to be able to give you an address where that material you’ve been searching for will be indexed!

COMING SOON – LIST OF LEAST EVANGELIZED PEOPLE GROUPS ISN’T “VAPORWARE”!

We’ve seen it! Thanks to Ron Rowland and a top flight team of co-workers, the long-awaited list of “Least Evangelized Peoples” is rapidly becoming reality! This past week, Ron allowed Brigada to examine the list and… Wow! … someone’s done a lot of work! The rough group of 4893 is now being boiled down into a priority list of 2400 or so “key” groups. Originating mainly from previous lists submitted by Patrick Johnstone, John Gilbert (Southern Baptist – Foreign Mission Board), and Kaleb Jansen (Adopt-A-People-Clearinghouse) for AD2000 and the Unreached Peoples Track, the list will report the Country Name, Language name, ROPAL Code, People Name, Population in country, R-Code (Barrett race code supplied by PJ) and Affinity bloc/Language Family. … The world is being divided into “Affinity Blocs”, using language family relationships, and “Gateway Peoples” are being listed, i.e. peoples that it will be key to enter first. Once these lists are determined, they will be central to discussions at GCOWE in the Unreached Peoples Track. In addition, some are recommending that they be used as the basis for discussion by a series of “Affinity Group” regional networks, after GCOWE. Please join us in praying that all this research time can be allotted and that the researchers could complete their respective challenges. Pray with us that God would give us wisdom as to how to make the information available, as it is released. Ask Him to guide us as to what forms & media might best serve to alert our ranks as to the regions and peoples that still remain untouched by His message.

PRAY FOR MEETING TODAY (FRIDAY) AT ADOPT-A-PEOPLE CLEARINGHOUSE

Please ask God to bless the brainstorming session in Colorado Springs today. Representatives from Brigada, Global Mapping, CrossConnect and Adopt-a-People Clearinghouse will be praying and brainstorming about how to lift up worldwide needs most effectively, especially with reference to drawing attention to the least evangelized unreached people groups and cities. Please ask God to speak clearly to the participants. Scheduled to attend are Bill Dickson (GMI), Terry Riley (AAPC), Bob Binkley (AAPC), Marv Bowers (AAPC), Pete Holzmann (CrossConnect), and Eric Derry (Brigada).

THIS WEEK’S FEATURED CONFERENCE – THE GPD “ALARM CLOCK”

At one time or another, probably all of us have subscribed to the Global Prayer Digest. What a great tool to alert us to worldwide prayer needs! But over the past few weeks, since the US Center has launched the online ‘GPD’, I’ve done more regular praying than I ever did when I was getting the booklet in written form. Seemed like when I traveled, or when I got busy, the booklet sometimes found its way onto a shelf somewhere, and little be little faded from my list of ‘things to do’ during devotional times. But now, the ‘GPD’ comes like an alarm clock, every day, into my email in-basket. And even if I have several messages to which I need to reply, I at least scan the content, then utter a quick prayer on behalf of the particular nation/people highlighted that day. Try it yourself! You just might be surprised! Well over 40 people are now subscribed. Not bad for a month-old project!
--------------------------------------

TOOL OF THE WEEK – NEED TO SEND A SPREADSHEET BY EMAIL? GET UUENCODE

Ever have to send a spreadsheet or an executable by email and couldn’t figure out how to convert that binary code to ascii text? Now, you can get uuEncode from Brigada and do it anytime you want. Just send email to hubatxcdotorg  (hubatxcdotorg)   with the only line of your message being…
get brigada uuexe521.bat

This is a 52K batch file that is self-extracting when executed. Full instructions are included. Both sender and receiver will need these files, which translate the binary code into ascii characters for emailing, then turn them back into your original binary form (Winword document, Excel spreadsheet, executable, etc.) upon arrival.
