WHAT ARE THE ODDS!??? GROWTH BY 65 PARTICIPANTS AGAIN THIS WEEK! :-)
That’s right! Brigada participants jumped again this week by exactly the same amount as last week, 65 new users for a grand total of 1,818 co-laborers for the harvest! Welcome new members! We’re left with 7 more weeks before our 1-year anniversary, March 15. Thanks for whatever you’re doing to pass the word along!

————————————–

ANNOUNCING THE PLACE TO GET ANNOUNCEMENTS
Want to stay in touch with AD2000 & Beyond’s Joshua Project 2000??? Tune in! Send a note to hubatxcdotorg with only the line
subscribe ad2-jp2-announce

in the body text of the message and you’ll receive occasional updates on team formation, training, and progress. News is sent out only when there’s worthwhile news to share. This conference was opened directly by the AD2000 International Office and is the “official” place to stay in touch! So set those radio dials and listen in! See what the Lord is about to do around the globe!

————————————–

HAVING TROUBLE GETTING STARTED WITH RESEARCH ON YOUR PEOPLE GROUP???
Help is on the way! At AD2000 & Beyond’s request this past week, a new “helper” page for the People Group Consultant was born. Dubbed the “Research Assistant”, it can be accessed from either the Brigada “Least Reached Peoples” page or from the PGC itself (though as of this hour, the PGC page had not been fully updated — for now, enter via Brigada by setting your browser to: http://www.xc.org/brigada/brigada.html or go directly to the PGC RA by pointing to: http://www.xc.org/brigada/pgcra/

What will the PGCRA do? It’ll serve as a kind of collection point for new URLs on least evangelized peoples. If you find an interesting/helpful page, switch over to the RA and click on “tell us” and the URL will simultaneously be sent to the Bethany Prayer Center (which is compiling Prayer Profiles for the JP2000 thrust) and the PGCRA too. Shortly thereafter, your new site will be available for all in a people-indexed format. There is also introductory information to other searching tools beyond the worldwide web, e.g., archie, Veronica, telnet, and more, along with sites for each! So the People Group Consultant now has a Research Assistant! Check it out!

By the way, for those without web access, just send e-mail to hubatxcdotorg with only the following 2 lines in the text of the message:
subscribe ad2-jp2-announce
get ad2-jp2-announce research-assistant

This pair of commands will

1. subscribe you to an e-mail message list for announcements relevant to Joshua Project 2000 teams
2. signal the hub that you’d like to receive a simple e-mail copy of the most pertinent and up-to-date online research tools. This message about research tools will arrive back in your in-box within 5-10 minutes, depending on the speed of your e-mail service. This is only the first release… but we’ll try to keep it fairly current in sync with the web page so you’ll always have the same access.

Thanks to Bethany for providing the initial start-up info. for this page, for AD2000 & Beyond for asking for its creation, and for Bob Mayhew for helping with the web publishing!

GOT A CD??? GET A GRIP… ON THE WORLD!
If you own a CD driver, check out Global Mapping’s 20:21 Library of Mission and Evangelism Resources on CD (Windows). The MAIN LIBRARY CD #1 contains Operation World, MARC Mission Handbook, The Ethnologue, World Fact Book, From Every People, Status of Global Evangelization, Christian Radio Broadcast data, [gasp for breath!] JESUS film data, the Bible in 6 languages, Greek/Hebrew Lexicons, 9 Bible Commentaries and a Mission Bibliography with over 235,000 records and that’s not all!!! [Whew… that’s a mouthful!] Special Brigada subscribers price is only $199.95. The GLOBAL MINISTRY MAPPING SYSTEM CD #2 contains ATLAS GIS 3.0 and detailed base/thematic maps on every country in the world for your ministry. Priced at $299.95 for Brigada subscribers, both are $100.00 off list price. Can you believe these guys giving us breaks like this? They’re going to spoil us for sure!!! Yahoooooooo! :-) E-mail to Harold Britton, Global Mapping International at: haroldatgmidotorg for details.

————————————–

WANNA BE AN ADVOCATE??? GO TO INDIA!
That’s right. In just two weeks, the second People Group Advocate school (NRM) will be held in Pune, India. If your church or you has adopted a people group in South Asia then you really should come to this school. They’ll take you to University libraries to research your group, analyze the felt needs of your group, make you aware of worldwide Christian resources available to reach your group, and help you come up with 100 strategies to reach your group. (Wow. That’s a lot!) Powerful. Interested? Address a letter to hubatxcdotorg with just the message
get brigada pgas

————————————–

POLISH OFF THE 10/40 WINDOW
That’s “Polish” not “polish”. :-) It’s a 10/40 Window prayer guide available in the language of POLISH. AIMS – Germany recently translated the prayer leaflet about the 7 major unreached people groups in the 10/40 window (Arab, Turcic, Iranian, Tibetan, Sahel, N.Indian, Malay) into Polish. It is available (free of charge – in print only – sorry for that) from AIMS-Germany. E-mail: 100711dot2622atCompuservedotCom . Please do not forget to mention your postal address. Thanks to Kerstin Hack 100711dot2622atcompuservedotcom for making this available!!!

————————————–

A BIT TOO MUCH KEYING GOING ON
Did you notice the extra “L” at the end of the URL for AIMS and Regent University in the Jan. 12th Brigada Today??? John Anderson did! The proper URL should be: http://www.regent.edu/acad/schdiv/div-con.html Thanks to eagle-eye John!

————————————–

NOW HERE’S A SPOT WHERE YOU CAN MAKE AN IMPACT
Looking for a short-term experience with long-term impact? Consider EXPLORE ’96, Caleb Project’s summer missionary research team ministry. This is an opportunity to be personally involved on the front end of advancing God’s kingdom among an unreached people group. This is truly a “different kind of short-term!” It’s June 4 – August 7, 1996 (9 weeks: 10 days training, 40 days overseas, 15 days debrief/media production), in Central Asia, Indonesia. The teams will seek to discover new insights and opportunities for spiritually penetrating these cultures with the gospel. Regular activities will include befriending local people and interviewing them in relational settings and writing reports (ethnography), prayer walking, producing media resources based on information gained, etc. By God’s grace, the long-term fruit of this ministry will be the MOBILIZATION of new missionaries, new intercessors and new senders focused on these peoples to the glory of God. Want to know more? [I wish I could go.] Contact mfenatcprojectdotcom or write to:

GERMANS MAKE A DIFFERENCE ON THE NET
According to Dick Chase, 76022dot1722atcompuservedotcom , you German emailers take your influence seriously! You apparently protested Compuserve’s open access to pornography on the net and now they’ve done something about it! Thanks for your impact. And thanks to Ron Kernahan 100612dot1353atcompuservedotcom for passing along the word! Ron suggests sending a brief “Thanks for your stand against pornography” letter to Compuserve’s CEO at Bob Massey, 70003dot1371atcompuservedotcom . I suppose this would have special significance if you’re a CServer and can send it to simply 70003,1371. Way to go Germany!

KINGDOM VENTURES MAKES IT EASIER FOR YOU TO FIND KINGDOM WORKERS
Have you heard about Kingdom Ventures’ new database to find people “over there”? Called “OPNET”, it includes over 1,000 operations overseas. The initial software package can be purchased for $5, and is updated quarterly. Updates may be purchased when the user likes, for $20 each (25% discount for those who return their work-among survey). The database includes a listing of mission organizations and the countries they are working in. The software is read-only; data may neither be edited nor altered. However, subscribers to the updates may post advertisements which appear in the main menu, and which all readers will view, for $5/advertisement. They sent us a copy of Opnet here and it has lots of potential. It is a DOS interface — so to Windows users it will probably not look very intuitive. But if you have to look someone up and you’re willing to work at it, it might be just the thing. And you certainly can’t gripe about the initial price. :-) For more information, contact Kingdom Ventures, 5273-E Kilrush Court, Richmond, Va. 23228. For a sample disk, send $5 to the address. Email JDavidLongatAOLdotCOM for more information.

NEW WEB SITES
… Just keep popping up… Mission Discovery is one of the latest… with short-term opportunities for youth and adults… at http://www.goshen.net/misdis/ . (By the way, hats off to these folks for including a link to Brigada!) Also catch http://www.ywam.org/30daytxt.html with info. on the 30 days of prayer for our Muslim friends. By the way, don’t forget that you can still get in on the 30 days of prayer conference. Just send a note to hubatxcdotorg with this line in the body text:

BOMB SCARE
One reader wrote this past week to protest the reference to an email bomb in the closing lines of last week’s Brigada Today. He was afraid someone might think we were really capable of sending a bomb through an electronic mail message. In case you’ve been wondering, that was a joke, son. Technology just hasn’t quite advanced that far yet… although I imagine it’ll be the subject of the next late-night sci-fi flick on one of those high-numbered UHF channels. :-)

————————————–

HAVE CAMERA, WILL TRAVEL
Now here’s a guy worth his weight in gold… Kodak Gold, that is. Check it out. Mike Scott Mogulracerataoldotcom is willing to accompany any JP2000 team to the field to do research/pre-search on a least evangelized people. He’ll be the team photographer and apparently brings home quite the album!!! He does appreciate the team chipping in on his expenses, but even that is negotiable, we’re told. Thanks to Mary Ann Stone (of the AD2000 & Beyond Office) and Steve Moore (of Kingdom Building Ministries) for the tip!!! Mike, grab your flash unit and get ready to head for the plane! Judging from his email address, he’ll be especially helpful in colder climates. :-)

YOU TOOK US SERIOUSLY – WE GREW BY 65 USERS IN ONE WEEK!
Thanks for the way you forwarded last week’s issue of Brigada Today! We have 8 more issues to go before our anniversary… and if we grew at this past week’s rate we’d fall just a couple of hundred users short of our goal to be at 2500 by March 21st, when we’re exactly 1 year old. So, if you can possibly spread the word by forwarding this issue to a friend or two, we’d love to have them on board! Thanks!

————————————–

GROWTH IS REAL GROWTH!
Greg Parsons, Executive Director of the US Center for World Missions wrote this past week to ask, “It would help me to know if your counts of people involved in conferences on Brigada are multiple entries. Let’s say I am on three, do I get counted three time in your list of 1688 (which sound strangely similar to the [number of peoples on the] list of JP peoples! :-) ).” Thanks for asking, Greg. Nope… When we say there are now 1753 participants in the top level (Brigada Today), that means 1753 different participants. Many are subscribed to more than one conference and some are members of sub-conferences under the top level even though they aren’t even receiving the Brigada Today! If you’d like to know the total number of subscriptions to various conferences, that’s somewhere around 5623. (Actually, as of 3pm yesterday it was exactly 5623. I counted. [Just kidding …about the ‘counting’ part. But I’m serious about the 5623 subscriptions. To determine that figure, I used some cool statistical output that Jonathan made available to us. Thanks Jonathan.])

GET READY TO FAST FAST!
January 21 kicks off the official daily excerpts by e-mail for the month of Ramadan and the prayer emphasis. , So Jan. 19 & 20th will have a page of helpful instruction each day including some addresses of where to get hard-copy editions. Then the daily excerpts will help you to pray and intercede along with an estimated 5 million Christians. These daily topics are focused and have information, statistics, sometimes stories and always prayer points. … All daily excerpts are less than a page long for easy printouts. Please invite others to join us in interceding in Jesus name these 30 days which correspond to Ramadan. To subscribe to the e-mailed version, please send e-mail to hubatxcdotorg with the body of the message reading:
subscribe 30-days

For those of you with Web access, you can view the full-color cover, read additional information, order books on Islam and find other useful resources at: http://www.ywam.org/30daytxt.html. However, you will not find the daily excerpts here, they are only available from 30-Daysatxcdotorg

Let us believe God for an outpouring of His Spirit on our Muslim neighbors worldwide. Let us pray and believe for the fulfillment of Revelation 7:9, that every group, including the peoples of Islam, will be represented before the throne of God on that final day.

[Thanks to Ron Kernahan RonKernahanatXCdotOrg for this info.!]

HOW DO YOU TRAIN A TENTMAKER?
Before some wise guy comes back with the suggestion of an “in-tent-sive” course :-) , let me tell you what we mean! Bill Taylor wrote with this question: “I’m speaking at a tentmakers conference in a restricted access Asian nation early next month. Can anyone out there give me information about designed training of tentmakers?” If you’ve got a training idea or model for Bill and the WEF Missions Commission, send it to brigada-projects-trainingatxcdotorg for Bill and others there to read. To subscribe to this brand new conference, send email to hubatxcdotorg with only the words
subscribe brigada-projects-training

in the text of the message body. Who should join? Trainers, curriculum developers, missions profs, students with a sincere desire to contribute to good training bases, experienced missionaries who would like to put their two cents into the training equation, and more. NOTE: Long term, we need a new moderator for this brand new conference. Obviously, this moderator will need an XC.org address (since only those individuals with XC.org addresses can moderate MAFxc conferences). To get an XC.org address, a MAFxc membership, and lots of other benefits combined, write to helpdeskatxcdotorg for a form and instructions. Cost is $52/yearly. You’ll still need your local INTERNET service provider, but your mail will be forwarded through MAFxc’s hub and you’ll be able to help contribute to training and the growth of world missions around the globe! Note that of you’re interested in joining MAFxc, you should not write to Brigada or simply reply to this note. We don’t receive those applications nor the bucks nor much of anything else… except mail! :-) Write to helpdeskatxcdotorg . But do join the conference and send in your training advice and tips!

$39 QUESTION: “WHAT’S A MUSLIM?”
Want to get a fast, thorough and culturally sensitive education about Islam??? Try these tapes from John Blake. The guy spent 5 years living with Muslims before he invested the entire last year (that’s right… you read it correctly… I said year as in 12 months!) making these tapes. And for whom??? You, that’s who. “This series was co-produced (i.e. funded) by ten different missions groups who work in the Middle East,” John told us this past week. “It was also assisted by countless people from many other agencies who provided video footage, people, interviews and critical input. These people put so much into this production, because they want to get rid of stereotypes we in the West have of the Arab people. They are viewed for the most part as terrorists and the enemy of the West. This series puts them in the proper perspective. As Colin Chapman, expert and writer on Islam says, “It’s time we saw the Arabs as the warm hospitable people they really are.”

There are six 20-minute sessions (just right for Sunday Schools or Wed. night studies) on one humongously resourceful videotape. Dudley Woodberry, (who appears in the series) said this video “…should be in every Christian Church and College.” The series originally sold for $79.95 — honest. But tell them you heard about it on Brigada and… get this… you’ll get the series for $39.95! (‘Course, even if you fail to tell them, they’ll sell it for $39.95 anyway, but would you believe that if you tell them you heard about it on Brigada then maybe they’ll at least throw in a free videotape case???) ONCE YOU WATCH THEM ON TV, YOU’RE READY TO EXPERIENCE THEM!
And that’s exactly what Robert Douglas has in mind for you! He’s the former director of the Zwemmer Institute and is now a seminary professor at Lincoln Christian College & Seminary, Lincoln, IL. He’s got this training program in Turkey called CASC — Central Asia Study Center, “created by agencies working in Central Asia to enable Christian workers to acquire or upgrade skills and knowledge which facilitate the goal of planting churches among Muslims in Central Asia and the Caucuses.” CASC is located in an overseas city which has strategic Muslim people groups. CASC’s operation is under the direction of eight Evangelical agencies who have invested time and people in Central Asia for some time.” For more information contact

GO NATIVE!
Thanks to Doug Larson who just picked up info. on a great new www/research site from Internic’s Scout Report. According to Doug, “NativeWeb, a rich source of information and documents about indigenous peoples, has moved to a new location and has been expanded since we reported on it last year. The site seeks to “provide a cyber-place for Earth’s indigenous peoples.” The site at present provides pointers to North and South American indigenous peoples’ resources, and promises in future to provide sources for Asia and Africa. Information is available by Subject Categories, Geographic Regions, Nations/Peoples, Native Languages and Literature, Native Newsletters and Journals, Native Organizations, and Bibliographies. An electronic store offers listings of mostly Native-owned enterprises, and a Native events calendar is also provided. http://web.maxwell.syr.edu/nativeweb/ To subscribe to the NativeWeb mailing list, send a message to: LISTSERVatTHECITYdotSFSUdotEDU In the body of the message type:

GLOBAL GLIMPSE OF GLOBAL TV
“Evangelist Billy Graham plans to target 2.5 billion via a global TV series in ’96,” says Global Glimpse column writer John Hanna. “Being broadcast in 42 languages on national television networks in more than 160 countries, the Global Television Series will also be carried on two of the world’s largest intercontinental satellite networks, STAR-TV and BSKYB, covering approximately two-thirds of the world’s population. As with all Graham projects, local churches will be mobilized for follow-up.”

“DO YOU WORK FOR AD2000 OR SOMETHING?”
Thanks to Brian Jose, who expressed his concern….:

Dear Doug,

I am writing this “letter to the editor” to Brigada c/o you. I hope you are the right person!

If there’s someone to blame, I’m he. The buck stops here. :-)

First, may I congratulate and affirm your efforts as you mark year one!
May Brigada grow and prosper as you seek to serve the Kingdom. May you be
increasingly part of God’s plans for the nations.

As you seek to see Brigada grow, and encourage us to “tell a friend”, I thought you might want to hear some of my perceptions, and those of the friends I tell about Brigada.

Basically, there is a perception that Brigada seems increasingly to be focused on the AD2000 and Beyond initiative. Many of us working around the world praise God for the PART that AD2000 is playing in God’s work.

However, at least those of us who live in Europe observe that there are many other individuals, groups, networks and initiatives which God is using in addition to those who identify closely with AD2000. I believe it would strengthen both the impact and the appeal of Brigada if it were to actively work toward a more inclusive perspective. Some people whom I have told about Brigada have seen it and dismiss it with comments like, “oh, that’s that AD2000 thing”. I don’t believe you would want to have that image!

I hope this slightly less than encouraging comment is taken as it is intended: with the hope that Brigada will grow, prosper and become an even more significant contributor to world evangelism. May your tribe increase! Sincerely, Brian Jose International Teams

Thanks Brian! Appreciate your input! We are not at all attached to the AD2000 & Beyond Movement, but in my private reply to you, I shared… “we’ve mainly been trying to just report what seems to be the ‘state of the art’ in ‘what’s happening’ out there in the evangelical ‘consultation’ world… though I realize it doesn’t at all reflect what’s happening in the day-to-day operations there where front-lines ‘on the ground’ teams are working. But like it or not, much of the new momentum for missions is threaded through and through the AD2000 & Beyond Movement.”

Upon receiving this note, you responded…

I know lots of things are happening through AD2000 and Beyond. I hope
very few of us are in the “not like” category! Such would not further the
Kingdom, I would assert. I freely admit to being an idealist in cooperation
matters. I seek to cooperate and partner in principle, even if it is not
always the most “pragmatic” way. I believe it is right. Period. So I like
the fact that much is happening through AD2000 & Beyond. I just don’t want
AD2000 & Beyond to miss out on anything happening among the other
macro-focused networking and cooperative initiatives. Again, I speak most
specifically about Europe in this context, but with a vision that Europe’s
resources be increasingly applied to the worldwide goals of AD2000 & Beyond.

Great finish, Brian!!! Although I can’t claim to know Luis Bush and the other AD2000 & Beyond leadership very intimately, I have at least had the opportunity to watch them in action on a few occasions and I can now promise you that they would all be keenly interested in your last comment!!! They would covet the chance to see more and more of Europe’s resources applied toward finishing the task… both inside and outside of Europe. And I think they would also want to help fan the flames of any other global or regional effort to get the gospel to every person! So… thanks for helping us clarify that, though we are excited by the momentum we see in AD2000 & Beyond, let us not focus on that network as the end result, but rather, on that network’s ability, along with all others, to hasten the completion of God’s great global plan!

ONE YEAR AGO THIS WEEK, “BRIGADA CONCEPT” BORN
Tonight, memories have come flooding back as we looked at some of the original “scribbles” and proposals for what later became Brigada. It will soon be one full year that we sent the actual first conference message, an exchange between Jonathan Marsden and Doug Lucas — the only two subscribers on the conference! That was January 26, 1995, and believe me, back then, Brigada seemed like a pretty lonely place! :-) Now, nearly on the eve of those first experimental communiques, there are 1688 in our family, taking part in around 50 email-activated “conferences” and a world-wide web exchange. (If you’d like a list of active conferences, just send email to hubatxcdotorg with only the word
conferences

in the body of the message text.) The doors didn’t officially open, however, until March 21st, some two months later, and by that time, well over 100 mission executives and specialists were exploring the new medium. Early on, Jonathan Marsden said he wouldn’t be happy until we had 10,000 caring world Christians involved. Can we at least be 1/5 of the way there by March 21st??? To pull that off, we ask that you share this Brigada Today with a friend and invite him/her to subscribe! (See the instructions at the end.)

————————————–

LIFE-CHANGING ENCOUNTERS OF THE REAL KIND
Call, write, fax, email, or catch a plane to Denver and buy Life-Changing Encounters. This new book was prepared especially for short-term teams and their Joshua Project 2000 research trips. But it can probably teach us all something about cross-cultural field visits. And even if it doesn’t, you’d still better get it just so you’ll know what everyone will be reading in preparation for their visit to come and see you in lower Slobovia… wherever that is.

You’ve probably already heard that the JP2000 thrust is one of AD2000 & Beyond’s two key strategies for the last five years of the decade, in hopes of seeing a “church for every people and the gospel for every person by [the end of] the year 2000.” (The other is National Initiatives.) Inevitably, one of the first questions that arises when the JP2000 subject comes up at the lunch table is, “So, what’s going to keep all these new research and exposure trips from stumbling all over each other… and from fouling up the ministries of full-time field workers who might already be living on site?”

Enter Life-Changing Encounters! (Okay — so I’m a bit idealistic. But at least it’s a start in the right direction! :-) ) In just 100 pages, this manual walks you through the basic foundational principles and assumptions behind a JP2000 project, as well as the planning and preparing stages, training, interviewing, on-site logistics, debriefing, and preparing prayer profiles about your key people group or city. You might be able to do more with your $12 if you use it to invest in Microsoft stock at just the right moment, but unless Bill has given you some “insider’s tip”, you’re probably just as well off buying this book (…especially now that Windows ’95 has been relegated to the position of “John the Baptist” for Windows NT!).

From the moment you read Luis Bush’s forward, you know you’re in for a fast-paced rollar coaster ride: “Welcome! You have chosen to be part of an adventure Dr. Ralph Winter of the US Center for World Missions calls ‘the most ambitious global research project ever to be conceived.’ Come, let us explore the lands of the most spiritually needy peoples of our world! There is a call going forth for on-site researchers to visit these peoples as part of a unique global venture that envisions a church for every people by the year 2000. You have in your hands a tool that can greatly enhance your on-site research experience.”

But somehow, Caleb Project’s staff, with Debra Sanders at the helm, has managed to incorporate the best of their Exploring the Land, combine it with some 15 years of experience doing this research thing, and sprinkle in a boat-load of input from all the right outside sources — including Mary Ann Stone, AD2000’s Coordinator for JP2000 teams. If you’re considering going on a JP2000 trip this year or next, sell two or three of your favorite CDs and get this book. (Those CDs are just damaging your hearing anyway! :-) ) If you’re thinking about hosting a JP2000 team, get it, read it, then mail a copy to your fast-approaching team leader!!!!!!! :-) And if you’ve said it can’t be done (“There’s no way these short-term lay people can add anything to the Cause in the 10/40 Window!”), better take a look at the steps listed on pages 46-57. They just might cause a “Hmmmmmmm….” reaction. :-) The planning checklist (pp. 83-85) alone is worth the 12 bucks. Consider the rest of the book a giveaway. Bethany Prayer Center contributed nicely to the prayer profile templates and the 6-page questionnaire (way to go Gabriela! ), as well as to the Guide for Effective Research of Unreached Peoples in the library. Sure, the “Adopting a Missionary or a Project” section is just one paragraph hidden away on page 95 (when in reality, that’s one of the key reasons I thought we were doing this JP2000 thing), but hey… when Luis is sayin’ “100 pages tops” and it’s the week before “The Launch”, something’s gotta go! :-) The bottom line is, it’s the best stuff out there and it’ll only work if we use it. I’ve already bought and paid for two personal copies — one for my desk at home and one for the office. (You think I’m kidding. Come visit Penny and me and we’ll roast marshmallows out back in the snow $$$ drifts while we read through the five appendices!) Now it’s your turn. And in case you were wondering, Caleb Project doesn’t pay my “big bucks $$$ Brigada salary.” :-) But mark my words — your teams are going to like this book! And after all, if you buy it and are dissatisfied, send it back. I’ll go on record saying that Greg Fritz, the director, will personally and cheerfully refund your money. Right Greg? Greg??? Uhh.. Greg? :-) (To order Life-Changing Encounters, contact Caleb Project at 10 West Dry Creek Circle, Littleton, CO 80120-4413; tel. 303-730-4170; fax 303-730-4177. Email infoatcprojectdotcom .)

WOULD YOU BE WILLING TO GIVE YOUR LIFE?
Justin Long, of David Barrett’s office in Virgina, says that more have done so than we realize! His tally of “average martyrs annually” is sobering:

* 1996 – 159,000
* 1900 – 35,600
* 1970 – 230,000

“Martyrdom across the ages has garnered a significant amount of interest recently. In Our globe and how to reach it (1990, Barrett & Johnson), the grim facts are presented. From AD33 to 1990, there were 420 situations of martyrdom (where large groups of Christians are killed). In 56 of these over 100,000 were killed; in 20, more than half a million were killed and in twelve over 1 million were killed. The bulk of these situations occurred in two periods: the first, between 1000 and 1500 AD, and the second, a much shorter period, 1900-1980. 26 million, over half of all Christian martyrs ever, were killed in this latter period. Some 9.9 million were martyred in the past forty years alone.

AIMS TO SPONSOR “PENETRATING THE 10/40 WINDOW”
AIMS (Association of International Missions Services) and Regent University are co-sponsoring on March 10-13, 1996, a conference called Penetrating the10/40 Window.

George Otis, Jr., author of The Last of the Giants and co-coordinator of the United Prayer track of the AD 2000 and beyond movement will be the principle speaker. The conference will be held on the campus of Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA. From all appearances, it will be an excellent chance for networking. In addition, organizers say there will be tracks designed to help build alliances between churches, agencies and Great Commission Christians in seven areas of Unreached Peoples. They are the Tibetan Buddhist world, China, Indonesia, India, Uzbekistan, Southeast Asia (Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam), and Fourth World Peoples (drug addicts, prostitutes, street children).

Write Nathan nathcraatbeacondotregentdotedu for more info. or call him at (804)-579-4525. Also, check out their home page at http://www.regent.edu/acad/schdiv/div-con.html

GLOBAL GLIMPSE
JESUS FILM CONTINUES TO BRING FORTH FRUIT — “More than 3 million people in India saw the Jesus film in seven months recently,” quotes John Hanna, in this week’s Global Glimpse. “And 337,412 indicated an interest in knowing Christ. The film is used in 35 languages in India, where 301 film teams partner with churches and mission agencies. In Sudan, a three-week project resulted in 120,000 people wanting to know more about Christ.”

GETTING IN STEP VIDEO PREMIERS!
Last night (Thurs. eve.) in St. Louis, MO, at the Envision ’96 PitStop Training Weekend, Good News Productions and College Press premiered their new Getting in Step with the God of the Nations video series. The course features six lessons involving missions researchers, plus an additional 7th “application case study”. To order, call College Press at 1-800-289-3300 in the USA. In other locations, you may email to firstlightatwoodtechdotcom . Now here’s the best part. You’ve seen sets of teaching tapes like these sell for $295.. but the presenters of this set agreed to forego payment of royalties and the producers and publishers are working at break-even costs. Plus the Garden Park Church in Toledo, OH, donated a handsome grant to offset production cost… so normal price is only $69 plus $6 shipping for the 4 tape, 7 sessions series. In addition, the director of College Press agreed to give Brigada Today readers an additional $5 discount if they order before Feb. 1! Churches and orgs can be invoiced. Don’t forget to mention that you read about it in Brigada Today for the immediate discount. The set comes with 6 study booklets and a “how to use it” guidesheet. This is great stuff — excellent for laying the groundwork for a future Perspectives course, since the themes include the Biblical, Theological, Historical, Strategic, and Cultural Perspectives. Several of the tapes are loaded with graphics, with one 45-minute session including well over 100 different teaching charts. The whole thing is professionally produced and broadcast quality. College Press is at PO Box 1132, Joplin, MO 64802-1132. Top notch. Good price. Did I mention that it’s good? :-)

JUMANJI REVISITED
Thanks to Roger Banner for pointing out that Jumanji (the Robin Williams movie to which we referred in the special New Years Eve message) is pretty nightmarish and frightening. Probably not the greatest evening’s entertainment for your 5-year-old! :-( So . . . let’s shout something else… maybe, Bambi!!! (Deer me!)

GLOBAL GLIMPSE – MILLIONS PRAY
Up to five million Christians worldwide are preparing for a month of prayer for Muslims. Around half a million copies of the 30 Days Muslim Prayer Focus guide have been distributed for this year’s event, coinciding with the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, beginning January 21. Published in more than 20 languages – including Chinese, Arabic and Hindi – the handbook highlights different countries, and people groups with a particular accent this year on families and children. Participants will pray for breakthroughs among the world’s billion Muslims, and a new wave of missionary endeavor.
