POP-UP PRAYER REQUEST
[Thanks to Candido P. Miranda and all the others for the positive feedback on last week’s “Pop-up Prayer Request.” We include another request this week in response to participants’ suggestions.] Just think of what a powerful force of global prayer warriors we become this morning as 2032 of us join hands in the following prayer: “Father, we love you, we worship and adore you. Glorify your name in all the earth. Today we seek the fulfillment of something we know you desire. We want the nations to be glad. We want people everywhere to lift up pure hearts to you and to be joy-filled by having received your grace. Lord, you told your followers to “make disciples of all nations” and you said you would be “with” them always. We seek that “withness” this morning and we give ourselves wholly over to your eternal plan of redemption for the nations. We need that “withness,” because without it, we clearly cannot imagine completing such an awesome responsibility with only earthly strength. We need your Spirit. We need your wisdom. We need your strength. Please empower us — so that you may in turn be glorified by all the peoples of the earth. May all the peoples praise you, oh God!”

AD2000 & BEYOND LAUNCHES NEW WEB SITE
You knew it would come. And it did. AD2000 & Beyond has launched a brand new thrust on the worldwide web. And thanks to their Media Coordinator, you probably heard it first here on Brigada! (Thanks Dave!) Billed as “a toolbox for seeing a church for every people and the gospel for every person,” the site can be found at… you guessed it… http://www.ad2000.org. Nice address. :-) Dave told Brigada Today, “In May ’95 a great group of volunteers started our GCOWE ’95 page. On Feb.20 1996 we added to that the following sections:

1. Current news about the movement, with updates every week.
2. Joshua Project 2000 section, with access to the list of least evangelized peoples and a sample prayer profile.
3. AD2000 national initiatives info.
4. Section on the 10/40 Window, including the graphics from the brochure (yours to use for ministry purposes) and a listing of the 100 Gateway cities and the text to two Praying through the Window books.
5. Details about AD2000 conferences and mobilization events like GCOWE ’97.
6. AD2000 background information with current list of networks, task forces and regional leadership including some photos of staff.

Much more information will be posted.” He also added, “If there is something you would like to see added to this Web site please make your suggestions to: Davidatad2000dotorg” We suggest you add a link from your own home page today!

“PRAYING THROUGH THE WINDOW III” NEEDS YOUR HELP!
That’s right! Though October ’97 might seem far away to you, for the Managing Editor of the next Praying Through the Window book it’s time to get started! And John Hanna, who writes our regular weekly “Global Glimpse” column and works as the People Group Advocacy specialist at Caleb Project, would love to have your help. As Managing Editor for the book, Praying Through the Window III — the Least Evangelized Peoples of the World, he needs your help.

You see, in October ’97, the world’s eyes will focus on prayer for 100 – 150 unreached people clusters covering the roughly 2,000 people groups selected by AD 2000. Plans for this book include distribution in many languages with at least 50,000 English copies. John recently told Brigada Today, “We are seeking up-to-date and detailed information for an excellent 10/40 Window prayer tool. Each page will have some basic information about the people cluster, a map, photo, or graphic depicting the people group, and 4 to 6 prayer requests.” Wow. John’s sharp, but how many slides can the guy have tucked away in his den!??? I mean, let’s lend the guy a ‘hanna’ or whatever. :-)

“Anecdotes, snippets, short stories, and background information which will help us communicate cultural and circumstantial information to stimulate effective and fervent prayer is our greatest need,” John added. John provided us with a list of the major clusters they’re currently considering. You can retrieve this list by sending email to hubatxcdotorg with only this line in the body of the message text:
get clusters

As the list is fine-tuned or updated, we’ll try to keep it current for your retrieving pleasure. Because John recognizes that the list is not final nor complete. And he’s open to your input. ‘Course, he can’t guarantee your ideas or material will be reproduced in the book, but it will be used to check and re-check the accuracy of what’s written. So get those cards and letters going, folks. Let’s bug John with all our people profiles, reports, prayer tools, newsletters, etc. In fact, he’d even be glad to guard the sensitive stuff. “If you would like to send us information which we should not reprint (because of security), PLEASE MARK THIS INFORMATION CLEARLY, perhaps with asterisks (**) or a highlighter pen (by snail mail).” Even on the non-confidential stuff, to protect identities, John won’t be including anyone’s name with material he shares with cooperating researchers — unless you want him to, and then all you have to do is ask and he’ll make sure you’re properly credited.

The time to start is now. “Send whatever information you can by April 1, 1996 or sooner.” This guy is on the ball — and he doesn’t want to wait until the 30th of Sept. ’97, to start mailing out copies of the book! Stay tuned to Brigada for updates on progress and the latest news on “Praying Through the Window III.”

John adds, “Later (in May) we will be looking for people to also check the work before it goes to print. If you have suggestions, please let us know! All information must be finalized by the end of May, 1996.” Yikes. Talk about advanced preparation. This book stuff is no easy task. He’s just got 60 days, gang.

How do you write John? That’s the easy part! John Hanna, jhannaatcprojectdotcom, http://www.goshen.net/calebproject or by good ole’ fashioned snail mail, … Praying Through the Window Project, Caleb Project, 10 West Dry Creek Circle, Littleton, CO 80120, USA

PEOPLE GROUP CONSULTANT DEVELOPMENT TEAM MOVES FORWARD
This past week, the People Group Consultant Development Team went into high gear in its quest to improve and expand the capabilities of the PGC. In the process, they’ve had to ask and seek answers to many tough questions, not only about the PGC itself, but also about how the PGC fits into the bigger picture of integrating the flow of missions information to key mobilizers around the world. At this point, the PGC Dev. Team is asking for volunteers who have expertise and willingness to help in two specific areas:

1. HTML creation
2. coding SQL

(Note: If you have to ask what these are, odds are, you’re probably not the one for the job. :-))

Within the next few weeks, once the new structure is in place, the team will also need people group advocates, data entry volunteers, and a host of others. For now though, volunteers with HTML and/or SQL under their belt are asked to join pgc-intro by sending email to hubatxcdotorg with only the following line in the body of the message text:
subscribe pgc-intro

Instructions on how to proceed from there will then be included in the resulting welcome message.

MISSION 2000 LAUNCHES
Pray for “Mission 2000 – Mobilizing for the unreached” conference in Bispingen, Northern Germany…jointly organized by AIMS Germany (Kerstin Hack) and YWAM, North Germany (Jan Schlegel). About 130 – 150 pastors and leaders of churches in Germany, the Czech republic, Belarus and a few other countries will get together to learn how to mobilize for Missions and how a church can be part of the great commission. According to Kerstin, “In Europe there is still very little concern for the unreached people groups of the World.” Kerstin and other organizers are hoping participants and believers around the world will pray for the start of a new movement for the nations of the world, for unity, wisdom, and finances/technical challenges for the conference itself. For more info., write Kerstin at 100711dot2622atCompuservedotCom.

NOTE: She requests special prayer for Andrew James Rickards, baby son of Diane and Pari Rickards (one of the main speakers) who is undergoing heart surgery TODAY. Pari, there are over 2000 of us backing you, Diane, and Andrew up with prayer and our thoughts. Hang in there. We hope for the best for little Andrew.

THE KAZAKHS HAVE BECOME THE KAZAKS! [TAKE TWO] :-)

Last week we printed a correction from the previous week’s Brigada Today and this week, we’re correcting the correction! “I’d better get with the program!” In last week’s Brigada Today, we pointed out that the Brigada-peoples-kazakh conference has now transformed into brigada-peoples-kazak. (They’ve changed their conference name to reflect an official decision on the part of the Kazak people to drop the ‘h’ off the end of the name.) But then in the “subscribe” instructions, we used the old “h” spelling. Old habits die hard. So let’s try this one more time. To join up, send email to hubatxcdotorg with only this line in the text of the message:
subscribe brigada-peoples-kazakh [just kidding. :-) Here’s the real line.]
subscribe brigada-peoples-kazak

[you get the picture] In the process, by the way, well over 150 people have joined that conference. Wow. Marco Polo never had it so good. Imagine how long it took him to send messages to 156 people in a far away land! :-)

THIS WEEK’S GLOBAL GLIMPSE
There have been over 1,100 plans to evangelize the world since Christ’s Great Commission was given to the Church. In the past 25 years 200 million people, 3.4% of the world’s population, were evangelized. By mid-1996, 19.3% (nearly 1 person out of 5) will still be unevangelized. Unless current trends are reversed, the year 2000 will see a world one-third Christian, where 16% of its people have never heard the name of Jesus.

World Population (1996): 5,804,121,000
Christians (1996): 1,955,229,000
Unevangelized (1996): 1,121,842,000

ENVISION ’96 GETS A TECHNICAL COORDINATOR
If you’ve heard the new Kenny Rogers album, you’ve heard his song-writing talents. If you’ve ever caught the commercials, “Good times, Great taste at McDonalds,” “Kentucky Fried Chicken — We do chicken right!” or “Nationwide is on your side…”, then you’ve heard his creative, and artistic imagination. And if you’ve seen the Gaither Vocal Band, you’ve probably seen his arena coordination — because he’s overseen their travel and arena relations for five years. His name is J.D. Miller and he’s the new Envision ’96 Event Technical Coordinator. He got his break into ‘show biz’ when he was only 16. Roger Miller (“Trailers for Sale or Rent”, “Do-wacka-do”) walked up to him in a restaurant where he was playing dinner music, and on the spot asked him to be his personal pianist. What followed was 20 years of technical and musical wizardry which has included everything from writing jingles for nationwide McDonalds ads to producing zillions of record albums each year. At Lexington, Kentucky’s Rupp Arena this past Wednesday, he paced the floor of the venue for what organizers hope will be one of the most thrilling and effective mission mobilization events of all time, Envision ’96. J.D. is ready to “paint the town” — from arena fireworks to an opening ceremony torch run to carefully timed staging to prayer and fasting… Envision ’96 is coming to Lexington, KY, Nov. 1-3! If you haven’t registered yet, call Walter at the Envision ’96 office — 1-800-972-1137 — and let him know you’re interested. You can also email him at wbirney11ataoldotcom. Pick up an exhibit for the entire event for $190 and share your tapes, videos, books or mission opportunities. Meet 6000 people… or 10,000 or 18,000… as many as the Lord shall call. See ya in Lexington!

POP-UP PRAYER REQUEST
It occurred to me today what a powerful resource we would have if 2000 people bowed their heads and prayed just now, the moment they received this Brigada Today, that God would empower his churches around the world to really finish the task of taking the gospel to the least evangelized people. It doesn’t have to be a long prayer… but if you could join us just now… even if for a moment, would you?

“Dear Heavenly Father, we love you and adore you… and we want to ask just now that you’ll give us your wisdom, strength, hope and faithfulness in greater and greater measure, so we can in turn share your love with others. Empower us to be conduits of your compassion. Fill us with the desire and undying, unstoppable determination to complete the task of world evangelization as you’ve commanded. And when you use us, remove from us the temptation to seek selfish ambition or glory. We commit just now to giving all the glory to you, because you so richly deserve it. And now, I specifically want to lift up the ____ people [fill in the blank!]. Raise up witnesses both among them and to them. Use me, if you can, to make a powerful difference someday soon in their lives. And allow me to be of some small service in rallying more and more concern and action in sharing Christ and establishing your church in their midst. Lord, make it an effective church that can multiply many times over. And Lord, thanks for hearing and already setting about to answer these prayers. In Jesus’ name, Amen.” Thanks man.

THE KAZAKHS HAVE BECOME THE KAZAKS!
I’d better get with the program! In last week’s Brigada Today, we referred to the Brigada-peoples-kazakh conference which has now been astro-traveled into the realm of brigada-peoples-kazak. They’ve changed their conference name to reflect an official decision on the part of the Kazak people to drop the ‘h’ off the end of the name. Bravo, guys. Again, if you have a burden for this people group, or want to learn more about Marco Polo, join up by sending email to hubatxcdotorg with only this line in the text of the message:

GLOBAL GLIMPSE
Chinese officials provoke church-planting! The mission agency Open Doors reports that between 40 and 60 new house churches have been planted in Peking since November 1994 by Christians from a single church. The Chinese government originally intended to “tame” a church which had become uncomfortable for them by replacing pastor Yang Yudong with one more loyal to the system. Many Christians left the church in protest – and planted up to 60 new, officially unregistered and unwanted, churches.

REDLANDS CONSULTATION ON INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
(Thanks to Galen Hiestand GalenHiestandatXCdotorg for reporting from the scene!) On January 25-25, some 70 people gathered at the headquarters of Mission Aviation Fellowship to discuss the implications of Information Technology and the ministry of the Church. Dubbed the “Cyber 70” (or C70 for short) the group discussed three main topics categorized into Issues, Applications and Training. The event was purposely structured not as a conference, where people come to learn something, but as a consultation, where topics were thrown open for in-depth discussion. Perhaps unlike any previous event, the consultation actually began one month before the January meetings by participants sharing over several electronic conferences. By the time they gathered together, most folks already had been introduced in “cyberspace” and could “hit the ground running” since they already knew each other’s passion in regards to IT and the Church. Likewise, the consultation continues on via several electronic conferences dealing with many of the outcome details to be hammered out over the next several months. Some of the key “threads” of the discussion were:

1. How IT [information technology] could be the greatest threat AND the greatest tool since the Tower of Babel in uniting Christians to complete the Great Commission.
2. How we must be extra sensitive in applying IT cross-culturally to the Majority World so that we help decrease and increase the information gap.
3. How there appears to be tremendous confusion and lack of clarity among many organizations (Christian and non) in trying to handle the phenomenal changes that IT is demanding. How to deal with the increasing overload of information and messages.
4. How IT has tremendous potential in the area of distance education.
5. How to grapple with the tough philosophical questions regarding IT while simultaneously initiating key applications benefiting the church and missions.

For more information about the consultation and the on-going electronic conferences, contact GalenHiestandatXCdotorg. Again, thanks Galen and all the rest of the Cyber70!!! :-) We can’t thank you enough for putting tools like email conferencing into our hands!

HAVING TROUBLE WITH MISSIONARY SUPPORT?
Now help’s on its way! Thanks to Dave Moody DMatXCdotOrg for sending in the following:
One track of the Penetrating the 10/40 Window Unreached Peoples Conference, March 10-13 1996 in Virginia Beach, VA will be discussing the problems Churches, Supporters and Missionaries are going through in everyday life in one of its six sessions. This particular session will discuss problems and try to present solutions through the interactive discussion of conference attendees. Many Churches deal with the same problems whether they support teams in the Middle East or one person in the Europe. Please take the time to list the problems you are struggling with or have had to walk through in the past. No situation is to simple or too difficult. We will not mention names, cities or churches… only the problem itself. Some examples that have been submitted so far are: The difficulty of getting material out of country for newsletters. The difficulty in trying to keep close contact with supporters. Planning short term trips to unfamiliar countries. Getting supplies from point A to point B. Raising support for non church planting missions workers. How do we get the church interested in our ‘adopted people group’ We don’t have enough, (money, people, etc_) for a short term trip….. How can we still go? Please send any problems you may have by email to billcoverataoldotcom or U.S. mail to Bill Cover PO Box 8547 Norfolk, VA 23503. Thanks guys! You’ve hit on a heart strings!

THANK GOD FOR “ADOPTERS”!
Thanks to the Beavercreek Christian Church in Dayton, OH, who in cooperation with Team Expansion has now “officially” taken responsibility for making sure a new church is established among the Yanadi people of southern India. Long-time Brigada Today readers will remember the Sept. 15th issue, where the item, ” HAVE YOU REGISTERED YOUR INTEREST IN A PEOPLE GROUP?” explained my own personal quest to find an unreached people group for which I could “register” interest on the People Group Consultant. I did some basic research, made a couple of phone calls, sent a couple of emails and prayed. Frankly, I’m kind of ashamed to admit that it started more or less as a “test” of the system. When I clicked on the “more info” button in the “People Group Consultant”, would someone write me back? Could I really find interest in a group? Would I be able to discover all the essential information? Could it actually lead to measurable results? Well… what started as a test is blooming into reality! Now, some four months later, through the power of God, a church has taken up the challenge to actually see the project through and make sure God’s message goes to them. In fact, Beavercreek’s “Minister of Missions”, Eric Derry, leaves for a trip to study the Yanadi in just 3 weeks! God answers prayer.

So where does that leave you? Are you willing to take time to study and pray for one of the least evangelized peoples of the world? Would you be willing to “adopt” one, as a kind of “advocate”, until such time that a church and/or agency will accept the baton to make sure a new church is planted there? It all starts with joining brigada-peoples (send a message to hubatxcdotorg with only the words “subscribe brigada-peoples” in the text of the message). Throw your interest out there in the conference and watch the group of 223 mission researchers and prayer warriors come alive!!! And if you have access to the web, visit the People Group Consultant (PGC) at

Do it today!

FROM THE “END OF THE WORLD” TO YOUR DOORSTEP
The world’s 14 million Tibetan Buddhists are Central Asian peoples who find common cultural and religious roots in the Tibetan form of Buddhism. By no means limited to Tibet, they can be found in Russia, Mongolia, China, and the Himalayas. Most of the 65 people groups among them have no church in their own culture. Now they’re coming by the groves to North America where a growing network of Tibetan Buddhist study centers reaches out to non-Asians in the United States and Canada.

Is your church interested in reaching Tibetan Buddhists in your own community, or in placing people in the Tibetan Buddhist lands of the 10/40 Window? If so, try Interserve. They can help you with speakers experienced in many facets of ministry to Tibetan Buddhists, with books and other resources on the general subject of ministry to Tibetan Buddhists, and with information on placement opportunities in Asia. Write them at InterServeatxcdotorgto find out more.

BRIGADA-PROJECTS-TRAINING IN FULL SWING
The new Brigada-projects-training conference is now in full swing, complete with a new moderator, . Most recently, one of the participants reported on a recent trainers’ consultation, “Quadralogue”, at Columbia International University, October 2-5, 1995. The outcomes were numerous, including the very nature of the dialogues that various participants encountered. In 4 words or less, it sounded as if there was a tremendous unity of purpose among all who participated! Outcomes??? Many. For example, contact Bob Ferris 75463dot3610atcompuservedotcom or Steve Hoke 74543dot3221atcompuservedotcom for help developing a training “profile” for your organization, agency, or church. You can also order a copy of the “desired missionary” profile which was developed by sending a check for $ 5.00 to Dr. William Taylor, WEF Missions Commission, 4807 Palisade Drive, Austin, Texas 78731. Or get a pair of training manuals (one each by Dr. Ferris Dr. Harley respectively) the profile, and shipping by sending $22.00. (Checks made out to WORLD EVANGELICAL FELLOWSHIP.) Sounds like good stuff. Somebody buy it and send in a couple of paragraphs of review, okay? :-)

————————————–

DID YOU HEAR ABOUT ‘HIM’???
In this case, that’s short for Himalayas! GCOWE veterans will recognize the name David Sang-Bok Kim as that of the man who is Executive Director of the Torch Missions Center, Seoul; Korea. He wrote this past week, “We had a great time at Himalaya AD 2000 Conference at Siliguri, Indian, Jan 15-21, where more than two thousand came from eight different regions of the countries adjacent to [the] Hamalaya[s]. It was an exciting conference. We had rain during the first three days, but no one moved. Amazing! … We praise the Lord for the good time. God is working in Asia. In May 27-30 we will have N.E. Asia regional conference here at Torch Center, where eight countries will be represented, and Korean churches will officially adopt 2000 unreached people groups. We also need to adopt 2000 North Korean churches which used to be existent before the Korean War in 1950 but abolished by the North Korean government. South Korean churches adopt them one by one just as we adopt the unreached peoples. So much for today.” [end of quote] Ho-Hum. Another day, another 2000 N. Korean churches adopted plus another 2000 people groups adopted. Yawwwwwwwwwn.

I jest, of course. Indeed. This South Korean thing is one of the most exciting models we’ve got in the entire world, folks!!! Could anyone wonder why we’re excited about the AD2000 Movement and the momentum it’s garnering??? Yikes. When will we ever learn to mimic the S. Koreans. I tell ya… I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again — when I grow up, I want to be Korean! :-)

GO STEAL SOME BOOKS
Well… prices are low enough to make you think you’re stealing them! WORLD CHRISTIAN NEWS & BOOKS distributes books by mail and has access to books from hundreds of publishers. So next time you think of purchasing books (in print), try them. And by the way, some of you have apparently ordered the 30 Days Muslim Prayer Focus booklets from them. They tell me they’ve distributed over 28,000 copies! The second printing is nearly gone!!! (Wow. If people are actually using these prayer guides… Whew!) Check out their web site at http://www.ywam.org/books.html or write wcnatxcdotorg and request a print out (include your snail-mail address). Old-fashioned and expensive obsolete ways to contact them: P.O. Box 26479, Colorado Springs, CO 80936, USA. Tel: 1 (719) 442-6409; Fax: 1 (719) 380–0936. Thanks Paul!

SOME PEOPLE DO READ
:-) Thanks to Bruce Koch for his math-oriented eyes! We stated a goal of being 1/5th of the way toward Jonathan Marsden’s “10,000 mark” (in # of Brigada participants) by our 1-year anniversary. Then the following week, we summarized that our goal was 2500. ‘Course, one of Bruce’s jobs is to coordinate ministry accounts for the US Center for World Mission. So he’s accustomed to “missionary math”! :-) Sorry gang. Now you know why I’m in missions and not accounting! :-) So my question is… what’ll it be? 2000 or 2500? Only you can determine the answer by sharing this Brigada Today with a friend. Instructions on how to subscribe are at the end. By the way Bruce, thanks for your sharp eye, you rascal. :-)

YOU CAN STILL GET IN ON THE 30-DAY PRAYER VIGIL

And prayer guides can help! If you aren’t already there, remember that the 30 Days Muslim Prayer Guides are available daily. Join the millions praying and fasting from Jan. 21 – Feb. 19. Send an e-mail to hubatxcdotorg with the message body reading: subscribe 30-Days.

(Thanks to Ron RonKernahanatxcdotorg for reminding us!)

Maybe you can find these on the web, but as Randy says, if not, there’s always the local library! :-) Thanks to Randy, who is not a Christian Scientist. :-)

SECOND THOUGHTS ON CENSORSHIP
Previously, we quoted one Brigada reader who applauded CServe for blocking access to pornography because it was offensive. Well there’s the other side of the coin. Brigada reader Bob Sutterfield wrote to beg to strongly disagree: “I strongly disagree [Ed. Note: didn’t I tell you he wrote to strongly disagree???] with your assessment that CompuServe’s selective newsgroup blockage policy is a good thing for the Christian community. Now that they’ve established the precedent of selecting content, they’ll find it easy to decide to block other content they (or someone else, such as a governmental authority) find offensive. Many people find Christianity offensive because of the claims Jesus makes about them, so I expect our content would be early in the cutoff list.” Yikes Bob. Frankly, I hope your warning turns out to be overly pessimistic, but it sounds to me like it’s a word to the wise!

TO THE MANY WHO HAVE WRITTEN BOB WHITNEY
Not long ago, Bob bobw5atixdotnetcomdotcom contributed to Brigada Today readers a free program to handle and prayer for the JP2000 list of least reached peoples. More recently, he was hospitalized in a serious accident. He wrote this past week, “After a week in the hospital and two weeks at a Nursing Home I am home now. I am still in lots of pain and don’t have full use of my left arm. I can spend no more than 5 minutes at the computer before pain drives me away.” Feel free to send Bob a note of encouragement but don’t expect an answer. Continue to lift him in prayer.

MISSIONS IS ALIVE AND WELL
I’ve just returned from a week at a college and seminary in central Illinois where I’ve received much encouragement! I was invited to go there to speak to them, but I’m afraid they spoke volumes to me, giving me back tons more than I could ever hope to contribute. The seminary has a full-time church growth prof. (Ph.D.) from Fuller, a full-time Islamics prof. (Ph.D.) from Zwemmer, a full-time cross-cultural communications prof coming within the year from Zambia (who will have just finished his Ph.D.), a full-time staffed urban “lab” in “Chicago (led by a guy who will soon finish his Ph.D.) and a Dean who eats, sleeps, breathes, and prays missions (I know because that’s where they housed me! :-)Among other things happening in his life right now, his son is teaching English in China and he couldn’t stop talking about a new international extension on their M.Div. program.) (By the way — he’s a Ph.D. too). The undergrad college has full-time staff people who have served in Europe, Africa and who knows where else and the president of the whole shootin’ match has just been nominated to serve as president of Envision ’98. This place reeks of urban emphasis, even though it’s miles out in the corn fields of central IL. You walk into their visitors center and see beautiful portraits of Chicago and the campus is abuzz with interest in the INTERNET. Several were not only aware of Brigada, they are using its resources for exploring the world of the unreached. (They have every room on the campus already wired with fiber optics ready to throw the switch to connect the whole campus to a full T-1 connection to the INTERNET sometime this summer.) And… oh… did I mention the students? Literally dozens are majoring in missions and/or bivocational missions. Nine walked forward to make first-time commitments this past week but there are dozens more who have done so in the past. The campus has committed to loading up at least 100 of them and shipping them out to Envision ’96 this November in Lexington, Kentucky, and they’re committed to registering 100% of their student body “one way or another” :-). Several want to be involved in Joshua Project 2000 trips or full research expeditions. Can you tell I’m encouraged? :-) So I asked the secret and most attributed the excitement to the impact of

1. on-campus special missions events (like the Week of WorldWide Witness, which features 3 chapel services and over a dozen workshops on missions)
2. short-term trips (featured annually)
3. a faculty and staff committed to missions
4. integrating “mission” into every class they teach
5. prayer
6. prayer
7. prayer

Can you duplicate some of those at your college or seminary??? You bet. Is every college or seminary doing it?? Unfortunately, “nyet”. When they do, you’ll hear about it. Wow. You can’t help but hear about it. The place is crawling with folks wanting to be missionaries. Scary. Plum scary! This coming week they start an elective 6-week class on prayer where they’ll teach half the class and pray for half the class. I’d venture a guess that the room will be packed. And guess what… that one’s not even for credit! They’re just doing it “for fun”, because they know that’s what they’re supposed to be doing. They had me speak in 3 chapel services and the whole college turned out. Plus there were 14 workshop presenters there from all over the world. International students gave testimonies in every session. The architect of the week, a prof named Mike Nichols, just got back from nearly a decade in Zaire. And he has his origins previously in their youth ministry department Scary. Plum scary. :-) Lincoln Christian College/Seminary. I could give you any number of addresses — but here’s the Christian Service guy…, a former missionary, by the way — but then, that shouldn’t surprise you, right? Curt Nordhielm cwnordhiatprairienetdotorg. Scary. Plum scary. :-) Who says missions is fading into the sunset. If this is any sign of what the future missions movement is going to be like, where do I sign up? Scary. Plum scary. :-)

THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK ON COMPUSERVE’S DECISION RE: PORNOGRAPHY
It does relate to who we are and what we’re doing, as Christians. But for the time being, we hope you’ll forgive us if we zero in on material more central to the focus of Brigada’s major heartbeat… reaching the least reached peoples of the world together!

MISSION 2000 DESTINED TO ADD FUEL TO THE FIRE
Between 150 and 200 people from Germany, the Czech Republic and the Belarus are expected to come to the first German Mission Mobilizers conference (Febr. 27.- March 2, 1996) organized jointly by YWAM Germany (Jan Schlegel) and AIMS Germany (Kerstin Hack). The conference will be held in German and English. The main focus of the conference is to train church leaders in mobilizing and involving people/churches for missions. Speakers include Bill and Amy Stearns (USA), John Rogers (interdev-GB), Lars Widerberg (Intercessors network, Sweden) and many others. For more information, contact Kerstin at 100711dot2622atcompuservedotcom.

NEED SOME ORIGINAL MISSIONS ARTWORK OR ILLUSTRATIONS?
Contact Mary at wcnatxcdotorg and you’ll be working with the artist who illustrated You Can Change the World (Johnstone), “Praying Through the Window II” Prayer Calendar, and the new Perspectives material from Meg Crossman. We’re told her prices are very reasonable and that some people end up sending literally double what they’re asked to pay, just because they’re so satisfied. For more information, call (719) 442-6409 or Fax (719) 380-0936 or email wcnatxcdotorg.

“WORKING YOUR WAY TO THE NATIONS”
About 100 delegates from Malaysia and at least 8 foreign countries assembled in Penang for a “Working your Way to the Nations” conference. Dr. Bill Taylor of WEF was the featured speaker and he challenged those attending to commit their lives to Christ for the sake of the Gospel. Workshops were conducted on various regions of the world where tentmaking is the primary missions strategy. Aspiring tentmakers were also helped by the practical workshops on problems related to tentmaking. The sponsoring organizations are now investigating how to set up a permanent tentmaker fellowship in Malaysia. For more info., contact Ken Smith at KSmithatgatidotwadotcom. Thanks Ken!

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF THE COMPUTER… AROUND THE WORLD!
Remember those books… A Day in the Life of America, …. of China…, etc.??? Well apparently the author/editor is the same guy who has done Passage to Vietnam (top-rated CD) and now, . . . something even more innovative! YWAM Photographer Dennis Fahringer photoatuofndotedu tells us that the www site http://www2.cyber24.com/html is 24 hours in Cyberspace. Apparently, the site just opened literally 48 hours ago (Feb. 8) and will soon close — so if you want to see this one you’d better act fast. After collecting the material, the editors will reopen the site on a permanent basis on March 17. It might even have already closed by the time you get this. Dennis says there are several key sections by Christians, including:

GLOBAL GLIMPSE
Wycliffe Bible Translators passed a milestone in their effort to translate the scriptures for unreached peoples around the world. Recently their 400th New Testament was completed for the Barai (buh-RAY-“i”) people of Papua New Guinea. Wycliffe began translation work 60-years ago. Director of Wycliffe Bible Translators, Hyatt Moore, says they currently have more than 5,200 active members, but he says more are needed. Wycliffe hopes to recruit 500 new members each year by the year 2,000.
