PHYSICIANS TO MEET IN LOUISVILLE TO PLAN SERIES FOR FALL
Have you heard about the physicians’ series shaping up for this fall in Louisville, KY? Initiated in part by an MD from Louisville, Dr. David A Dageforde ldagefordeataoldotcom, the series hopes “to give physicians differential diagnosis of general medical problems in 3rd World countries using only history & physical as the source of information to make the proper diagnosis.” Bottom line: a special symposium this fall for doctors headed overseas. Describing his recent experiences overseas, David wrote to Brigada this past week, “Most of the disease processes are in the area of tropical medicine where most of us are not exposed to that type of disease on a routine basis. Just as the book Where There Is No Doctor gives excellent written descriptions as to how to make the differential diagnosis of fever or diarrhea, or other problems, we felt these physicians [presenters] could come to this lecture with handouts and expertise in making physicians more comfortable at practicing in remote areas of the world.” Exciting stuff. If you’re interested in attending or presenting, contact Dr. Dageforde at ldagefordeataoldotcom. The planners are getting together May 20th, this coming Monday evening, to map out details on the fall event. They seek your prayers and participation if you’re able!

FOLLOW-UP TO FOLLOW-UP TO “HAVE YOU SEEN THE FIREWORKS???”
Still trying to get a bang out of the worldwide web? If you visited our one-year “Happy Birthday Edition” at http://www.xc.org/Brigada/today/bt960322.html and STILL couldn’t find the fireworks,

1. the fireworks display should be to the right of the table of contents at the top of the page
2. make sure you wait until the entire page has loaded
3. make sure the Netscape window is as wide as your screen.

Otherwise, contact our web wizard, Bob Mayhew MayhewatXCdotOrg, for more ideas. If you haven’t seen animation on the web, it’s really pretty cool.

INTERFACE WITH OLYMPIC GOLD
“Bravo!” to Bill Perry who is helping develop “InterFACE” for this summer’s Olympics in Atlanta. This past week, Bill wrote, “Thanks for continuing to send BRIGADA TODAY. I enjoy reading/praying through it. In the last issue it mentioned outreach to Muslims. The mission group I belong to, InterFACE Ministries (“InterFACE” stands for International Friendship Activities & Cultural Exchange), whose HQ is in Atlanta, GA, is hosting a 1- and 2-week outreach for the 200,000-250,000 Muslims expected at the ’96 Summer Olympic Games. We are looking for those who would come and be a part of this “window” opportunity. The program includes staying with Christian host families, 2 day training seminar, local transportation, coordinated field operations, literature, recreation, 2 meals per day. Only 125 can participate. Cost: 1 week: $140.00; 2 weeks: $230.00. If anyone is interested, please contact InterFACE Ministries ASAP at: 102227dot2626atCompuservedotcom…”

————————————–

AD2000 & BEYOND TO TRACK JP2000 OUTREACHES
Once again, don’t forget to contact the AD2000 & Beyond office in Colorado Springs if your group is adopting or considering a Joshua Project 2000 outreach. Mary Ann Stone wrote Brigada this past week to explain that her office would like to track these intentions so that they can…

1. recommend clustered training events
2. pray for the short-term trips as they’re happening
3. track who is focusing on which people, so they can guide others interested in this project to a people who may not be receiving any or little attention.
4. follow-up to obtain much-needed research data
5. find out when and if a church or agency adopts a people for networking and partnership possibilities in order to see a people’s needs “served” in the most effective and appropriate manner possible so churches can be planted among them sooner rather than later.

————————————–

QUENCH YOUR THIRST FOR THE RIGHT DISPLAY! GET LEMMON-AID
Lemmon-Aid Displays was brought into existence as an alternative to the many high priced displays offered in today’s marketplace. Ralph Lemmon wrote Brigada this past week to say, “It is my desire to “aid” churches, missionaries, mission organizations, service organizations, and non-profit groups, with a quality presentation of their work and goals. Send for a free color catalog and price list today. Included are table-tops and free standing designs. Lemmon-Aid Displays, LADisplaysataoldotcom, 4425 W. 59th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46254-1205.
PHONE: 1-800-895-8838, FAX: 317-291-0873.

————————————–

GLOBAL GLIMPSE FROM SOUTHEAST ASIA
A new church is organized in Cambodia every week among churches related to the Khmer Evangelical Church, which saw 13 congregations started in three months. The group has a goal of 300 new churches started by the year 2000.

CONFIRM YOUR ‘INTENT’IONS
Ken Smith KSmithatgatidotwadotcom is editor of a newsletter called TIE for tentmakers. He wrote this past week to report that “All international attendees to the INTENT’96 (formerly U.S. Association of Tentmakers) conference at the LAX airport on Aug. 2-4 are invited and encouraged to attend an International meeting during the pre-conference schedule. Either at 2 to 4 pm on Aug. 1st or in the morning of August 2nd. If you plan to attend these international meetings, contact tieatgatidotwadotcom so that proper space arrangements can be made.”

————————————–

HAVE YOU NOTICED WE’RE GROWING?? CHECK OUT THE NEW CONFERENCES!
How long has it been since you sent the message “conferences” to hubatxcdotorg to see the growing list of Brigada options! If you’re new to the Brigada family of networks, you just might be surprised at the amount of “connections” that are being forged around the globe! Just this past week, conferences for the Uygurs (Brigada-Peoples-Uygur) and Jews (brigada-peoples-jews) have launched into action.

Michael Hewitt is moderator for brigada-peoples-jews. He wrote this past week, “There is much study of Jewish culture today by Christians. It is said that the more you understand the jewishness of Jesus, the more you understand the New Testament. But the Bible is clear that we gentiles are grafted in, that the gospel is a stumbling block to the Jew, that we are to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. There are over 15 million Jews worldwide, over 5 million in Israel. The peace process, the elections in Israel on May 29th, the rising anti-semitism in America, all deserve a spot on our prayer list. It is hoped that brigada-peoples-jews conference will be a place where believers can come together to share information, prayer requests, and encourage one another to seek Gods’ heart for the jewish people.”

So, if you’ve been wondering how you can get involved in missions today even though you haven’t left for the field . . . or if you’re in the field and would like to get your newly planted church into missions, wonder no more! Just join up! To subscribe, just send email to hubatxcdotorg with only these lines in the text of the message:

TECHNOLOGY PROMISES BENEFITS FOR MISSIONS . . . MOST LIKELY
[The following first appeared in Team Expansion’s weekly update, the HeartBeat Online, via brigada-orgs-teamex. To subscribe, send email to hubatxcdotorg with only the words

How will technology impact your mission work or your team in the coming year? Maybe a lot! A few examples…

PHONES – Our Tanzania team . . . God bless ’em . . . puts up with really slow communication the old-fashioned air-mail route. It takes sometimes a month to get one single decision made that, via email, would have probably been over and done with in a day! But technology is bringing them… as early as this fall, perhaps… a kind of “global cell phone” that will permit them to dial out of southern Tanzania and get an instant connection to the world! Roger Lieb, the TZ team’s “tech”, has told us that they think this unit will cost about $3000 up front plus $3/minute for air-time. Before you say “ouch” too loudly, remember that cell phones cost about $2/minute during “roaming” charges here in the USA (when you’re outside your own calling area). Also, keep in mind that in the days of our early entry into China, we checked into sat phones and the equipment was $40,000 and the air time was $8/minute!!! :-)
[Note: Please don’t write for info. at this time. When this phone becomes available on the open market, we’ll announce it here in Brigada Today. In the meantime, the only action to take is to try to start saving your pennies for the $3000 tab.]

COMPUTERS – As INTERNET service continues to drop in “per minute” pricing (AT&T is giving away 5 hours per month free to all its long distance customers and “Juno” is cost-free in the USA), both at home and abroad, “real-time audio/video” links will become more doable. You’ll sit down to your computer monitor and have a video link with grandma and grandpa… and you’ll even be able to hold up the new baby so they can see how much she’s grown already! :-) This link will happen via Internet connections (not international phone lines) so it’ll cost you pennies per minute instead of dollars! How long ’til we’ll be doing this internationally? It’s available today, but not practical [for most non-USA readers], since most … overseas Internet users are still on Internet links that are too costly to use up the minutes in this way. However, count on this opening up during the next 24-36 months!
[Please don’t write for info. at this time. However, if you’re replacing your laptop, it’s probably worth hunting for one with a full duplex telephony feature integrated with the sound on board the computer — word to the wise.]

CD-ROM – Already you can take lots of Bible reference stuff with you to the field… but someday, it’ll all be available via CD-ROM and the “net”. So imagine… instead of carrying 60-70 volumes of OT/NT commentaries weighing in at 150 pounds, the whole thing will come on 2 or 3 CDs and will fit in your coat pocket, weigh nothing, and cost you nothing in shipping charges or taxes. Plus, you’ll have video, slides, and audio clips built in! When will this happen? Like I say, it’s already happening… but it’ll really come into its own during the coming 12 months.
[Word to the wise: if replacing your laptop, get one with a CD-ROM option or planning on lugging around an external “BackPack-like” variety.]

Will all these high-tech tools help us reach the lost more effectively? Maybe. But keep in mind… if our role is supposed to be relationally based (like it is for those among us who are evangelists), these new “toys” could back-fire! After all, it’s pretty cool punching up still shots of Egyptian tombs and or videos of people using Jewish wells “up close and personal…” so we might all end up camping out in front of the monitor — Heaven forbid! Let’s hope and pray that we won’t lose touch with the people we’ve gone to reach! :-)
Doug

IN ROUTE TO 10,000
Looking back, I found this item in Brigada Today on the 25th of August, ’95:
FROM THE “LET’S GET SERIOUS ABOUT VISION” DEPARTMENT — Ya know, I always thought that if a person was highly technical, highly skilled, highly process oriented, then they would probably be pretty scared about bulging growth. Not so with Jonathan Marsden, who manages the technical end of CrossConnect [now MAFxc] and, as such, helps with Brigada technical projects. When I asked him this past week about how he felt about Brigada growing past the 800 mark, I was surprised to hear him say he wasn’t satisfied. “I won’t be happy until we have 10,000 people on board, with hundreds of conferences about least reached people groups and cities all over the world.” Wow . When I grow up, I want to be like that. :-)

Well Jonathan, we’re now officially 1/4 of the way there, having passed the 2500 mark this past Saturday morning…. but it’s taken us nearly 14 months!!! So I say to all our Brigada participants, if you’ve got ideas on how we can speed up the process, please pitch in and help! Brigada operates on a shoe-string budget… (basically nothing! That’s right.. we have a very clear personnel policy on salaries: Nobody gets paid!!! So that means that you make as much money as anybody else in the conference! :-) ) If you can think of someone who might enjoy a Brigada conference or Brigada Today, please let them know!!! “Word of keyboard” is our only plan! We’ve never printed a brochure and there’s no such thing as a Brigada phone number! The subscription instructions are always appended to the end. Thanks and… let’s head toward 10,000!

JP2000 VIDEO IS A WINNER!
…at clarifying the simple objectives of the Joshua Project 2000 emphasis! You just can’t find a better resource to introduce your church, your mission, your supporters, your Perspectives class, your Sunday School, your Missions Fair, anything to the JP2000 thrust. It’s a 13-minute overview of the JP2000 concept, complete with interviews with key mission leaders like John Robb, Patrick Johnstone, and Luis Bush. Also included is footage from meetings such as GCOWE ’95, the Launch, and the Himilaya event. I used it this past Monday night in Lexington, KY, with a Perspectives class there and they were instantly informed and ready to roll! Many asked for order information… The publisher, Procla-Media Productions, normally gets $14.95 for all their videos. But John Fries wrote this past week and said that he’d give “Brigada enthusiasts” $5 off! (Do you qualify??? :-) ) So if you’ve been trying to explain this concept (that’s kind of hard to get your arms around), grab your $9.95 and run, don’t walk, to John at 76651dot2032atcompuservedotcom — but don’t forget to tell him you’re a Brigada enthusiast or you’ll apparently have to cough up $5 more! :-) Compuserve users could actually send their credit card numbers direct to 76651,2032 — but the rest of us better fax him at 719-380-0936. By the way, the $9.95 includes shipping and handling costs to any USA destination! John, thanks for the deal! :-) John’s tel. is 719-380-0505 if you’d rather talk to real live flesh and blood. And if you’d rather invest in paper (thereby killing off some of our Brazilian brothers’ trees and our future global air supply! :-) ), printer’s ink, and 32 cents minimum, you can even order it from his old-fashioned paper mail address:
PO Box 26479
Colorado Springs, CO 80936

This project involved AD2K Media guy as coordinator (how’d he find the time, what with the baby and all?? !!!) and the Carltons from Caleb Project (the same folks who brought us Light the Window). Man am I ever glad they’re not Jehova’s Witnesses or we’d all be passing out those colorful little leaflets! :-) By the way, did you know there was a special form to complete if you’re planning on doing a JP2000 trip? Request one from Mary Ann Stone — maryann@ad2000@org. To hear occasional announcements like these (relating to JP2000) and thereby subscribe to the Trumpet, send email to hubatxcdotorg with only this line in the message:

FOLLOW-UP TO “HAVE YOU SEEN THE FIREWORKS???”
By the way, if you visited http://www.xc.org/Brigada/today/bt960322.html and couldn’t find the fireworks, you might be using a browser that won’t cooperate with the program! Our web wizard, Bob Mayhew, has informed us that these “animated gifs” (wouldn’t that have something to do with peanut butter come to life???) are only viewable to people with Netscape 2.0 or better. So the rest of you’ns better upgrade or you’ll be left out! :-)

CLUSTERS UPON CLUSTERS OF PEOPLES
Last night, a church considering a JP2000 project to Kuwait City asked me to find them some relevant info. on the Net. After a brief stop at Altavista (where I was asked which of the 20,000 pages on Kuwait did I want to bounce to! :-) ), I stopped by AD2000’s newly updated pages on JP2000 peoples and was amazed that they have the people group clusters (AKA affinity blocks AKA strategic peoples AKA gateway peoples) already done!!! Take a look! Patrick Johnstone was right! Makes it tons easier to organize a consultation on a particular family of people groups. Start at http://www.ad2000.org and select JP2000.

————————————–

FOLLOW-UP ON “MAP ORDERS CONTINUE TO POUR IN”
They still do! But last week, we forgot to give the toll-free number for the new distributor! If you’d like a $6.95 map (24×36 inch) or the larger billboard sized version at $9.95 (3×5′), order from 800-866-3621 if you’re in the USA. Others can still contact:

MISSIONS IS ALIVE AND WELL IN THE CHURCH… REGARDLESS OF SIZE!!!
Thanks to our “European Correspondent,” Kerstin Hack (AIMS – Germany; 100711dot2622atCompuServedotCOM), for submitting this update on a church in eastern Germany doing tons of good stuff in Albania! Way to go Kerstin! And way to go Mr. Reinhold and company!!!

“Doing big things for God – Relief goods worth 1 Million $US for Albania!” Even before the wall came down God spoke to the pastor of a Methodist church in Wismar, Eastern Germany that He wanted him to be a blessing for Albania. After the wall came down in 1989 he and his church got involved with YWAM’s and the Assemblies of Gods work in Southern Albania. The church organized dozens of trips with lorries filled with relief goods, medicine, seeds, bibles etc. They organized Bible studies in Albanian villages, Youth camps and they dream of sending someone to the area permanently, but haven’t found the right person yet. The city government of Wismar supports their work and many non-christian businessmen, families etc. help with money, clothes and in a practical way (unemployed dock workers filled in all customs papers, others packed boxes). Factories also gave them many “left overs” – things that were not attractive any more once western goods flooded into East Germany – e.g. 60.000 brand new exercise books. They made use of every available opportunity in order to bless Albania. Over the years the value of the relief goods they brought to Albania accumulated to 1.6 Million DM (~ 1 Million $ US) and even more valuable – people got to know the living God. Wanna know the size of the church? 25 people attend the services. If you want to know more about what they are doing feel free to contact pastor Frieder Reinhold at 100547dot3144atCompuservedotCom.”

CALLING ALL SMALL ENVELOPE MISSIONS STUFFERS
That’s right. Here’s a guy looking for small envelope stuffers dealing with various aspects of world missions. “I intend to put them into thank you envelopes of those who support our mission,” says Dan Henrich. “Any ideas of a source? I would prefer NOT to do my own!” Understood DanHenrichatxcdotorg. Who can reply directly to him and put him onto a source? Dan, can you let us know what you find out?

In China, more than one thousand people were secretly baptized in a house church recently. The director of an international mission agency received a video of the baptism. At dusk, the people arrived at a private house in ones or twos. When everyone was present, baptism in a tiny basin in the small garden began, and continued until the early morning hours, at which time everyone disappeared the same way they arrived. 1188 people had been quietly baptized.

WE NEED A TEST SUBJECT!
Some would-be speaker of Spanish, French, German, Italian, Latin, Russian or English (for Spanish speakers) needs to try this course out and give us a report! These folks advertise that if your language ability doesn’t increase “by leaps and bounds” within 60 days, send the software back and you’ll get a “no questions asked” refund! Gotta have Windows (3.1 or higher) or MAC… available with a cassette on diskette ($30) or with built-in sound on CD ($50). In the USA, 800-332-8851. Elsewhere, write them at “Transparent Language”, PO Box 575, Hollis, NH 03049-9961. (And what a deal… if you reply now, you get “New BodyWorks 4.0 absolutely free! :-) ) Seriously, if you’re willing to be a “guinea pig” (are there really pigs in Guinea???), order it and let us know you’re going to be trying it out. Some 2 months from now, we’d like to hear all about your newly acquired yazik !… or idioma… or whatever…

WISH I COULD GO…
… to the ACMC National Conference, July 17-20, in Wheaton, IL. The schedule is filled with tons of great sessions like, “Adopting a People Group: The BIG Picture”, “Networking for Effective China Ministry”, “Giving Children a Heart for the World”, “Using the Internet for Global Ministry”, and main sessions by Stuart Briscoe, Erwin McManus (from The Church on Brady) and others. Plus all day long on July 17th, they’re hosting a “Mobilization Consultation”. Maybe we’ll shut down our plans for Envision ’96 in November and move everyone to Wheaton in July??? Naahhhhhhhhhh :-(, better not. But still wish I could go to Wheaton! For info, contact ACMC directly at 76331dot2051atcompuservedotcom or fax them at 708-260-0285.

Remember all the talk about wishing I could email you fireworks??? Well our web magician, Bob Mayhew, actually figured out how to do it!!! No kidding. They actually move right there on the screen, via the web!!! (Don’t ask me! I just work here! Probably “Java” or “cafe” or one of those other breakfast drink web programming languages!) Anyway, if you want do drink directly there.. I mean jump directly there and see the explosions (if your web browser is Netscape) at our 1 year anniversary birthday party, set your browser to: http://www.xc.org/Brigada/today/bt960322.html While you’re there, check out the issues on the calendar at: http://www.xc.org/Brigada/btbackis.html You can take your pick! Oh… and by the way, thanks Bob and Patti, for your tireless service archiving all these resources to the web!!!

NEW JP2000 LIST IS LIVE — AND FREE!!!
That ever-active AD2000 & Beyond media guy tells us that the new updated (April, ’96) research data is now live and kickin’ at their web page! Start at http://www.ad2000.org and choose Joshua People. To appreciate the immensity of this task, pretend your 3rd grader had 1700 baseball cards and you wanted to update the statistics (every single line!) to make every single card accurate as of last month’s baseball games. To make matters worse, pretend the baseball cards were all printed in different languages and every single one lived in different parts of the globe. What’s more, half of them didn’t care to tell you any additional info. because they were playing for a team that didn’t allow spectators! And you can’t just write in the new stats; you gotta’ encode them in programming code so they come out in 3D or something on the card!!! Gulp. Well that’s something like the equivalent of what this international research/publishing team just managed to pull off! What’s more, now they’re saying they’ll have the “Bethany Profile status” within the next day or two! At this point, I can’t say for sure exactly what that means… whether you’ll be able to actually get the Bethany profile (brand new stuff from the folks in Baton Rouge) or whether it’ll just tell the status of the Baton Rouge efforts. (I guess if it ends up that you have to buy the Bethany profiles, we’ll have to call that the “Louisiana Purchase????” :-) ) (pa-dum pum) Anyway, great job Dan, Lee, David, and anyone else that had a hand in publishing/updating the web version of the info… and tons of thanks also goes to John (Gilbert), Ron (Rowland), Patrick (Johnstone), Luis (Bush) and others who make the annual assessment and PIN work possible!!!! Thanks from all of us!!!

PRAY FOR THOSE ‘GOING FOR THE GOLD’
Greg Parsons GregdotParsonsatwciudotedu or gregdotparsonsatuscwmdotorg, Exec. Dir. at the US Center for World Mission, writes,
As we have done several times before, the Global Prayer Digest July ’96 issue will highlight countries/people and believing athletes in its daily readings. If people want copies of this special edition at (.50 each for less than 100), they can call (818) 398-2287. If any ministries want to order bulk (more than 100 copies at better prices, but never less than .40) it would be best for them to order by Monday, May 6. I know that is short notice, but that is the day the print run must be set. Of course, we may still be able to supply the orders depending on who orders what quantity when.

RANKIN FILE
While you’re on the web, don’t miss the Southern Baptist’s new Foreign Mission Board pages at http://www.imb.org and especially get a look at what they’re going to do at… http://www.imb.org/pray/compnet/comp-net.htm Cool pace to set for web pages!
Great job gang!

CALLING ALL CHAPLAINS
The Hospital Chaplains’ Ministry of America, Inc. (HCMA), a faith mission, seeks qualified people of faith who have a compassion for the hospitalized. HCMA is interested in inquiries from pastors and/or missionaries who are actively serving, in transition or retired. Please call (714) 572-3626 or Fax (714) 572-0585. You might even be able to email them at WetterholmatXCdotorg.

MAP ORDERS CONTINUE TO POUR IN
If you haven’t yet ordered your global map of peoples groups, colored according to percentage of evangelicals, don’t forget to do so at:

Foreign Mission Board, S. Baptist, Customer Service
PO Box 6767
Richmond, VA 23230
Voice: 804-219-1507; Fax: 804-254-8970
E-Mail: 0002050296atmcimaildotcom

Remember that the prices quoted ($6.95 for 24×36″, $9.95 for 3×5′) are for shipping to USA locations. Shipping internationally will be a tad more, I’m afraid. These things are hot. I taught a Perspectives class last night in Louisville and there was a lot of interest. We also have received several inquiries from the press, since they’re hearing about the widespread interest in the concept! Someone asked how 60,000+ orders can come in in just two weeks… the secret is working together. Global Mapping has done a tremendous job mobilizing over 60 networks and Brigada is just one of those… so God is working broadly across his kingdom to bring strength in unity of purpose!

HOW DO YOU SAY ‘HELLO’???
… to your missionaries on ‘home service’ (furlough)? Kevin Paszalek wants to know! He’s the Sr. Pastor at Southway Community Church in Houston, TX and he feels convicted that we just aren’t doing enough to care for the ones we love (the missionaries coming home on furlough). If you’ve got a neat case study of how you were cared for (if you’re a missionary-type) or how you reached out to debrief or share love with someone coming home (if you’re a church-type), just send a note about it to Kevin at pkevinpatsohodotiosdotcom sometime during the next two weeks.
Kevin, we’re going to ask you to gather up all the notes into a big file that we can post here on Brigada so anybody can read the results. Okay? Thanks!!!

RAMADAN PASSES FAST!
Paul Filidis is still “mopping up” from the “30 Days Muslim Prayer” mobilization (coinciding annually with the Muslim month of fasting) for North America. He writes, We distributed over 30,000 informative adult booklets in North America, over 1,500 videos on Islam, and thousands more booklets for younger readers. Worldwide, we are still tallying the numbers and receiving reports. The new translations of the booklet that were launched for this year’s Ramadan included Czech, Dutch, Indonesian and Chinese, bringing the total to 24 languages. Editorial and design work on the materials for next Ramadan (starting January 10, 1997) are under way. Interested ministries that want to place bulk orders, and mobilize their constituency to participate during the next “30 Days Muslim Prayer” Focus, better plan ahead, and order early this year. There will not be enough time (as in previous years) to leave ordering until after Christmas. The Islamic lunar calendar causes the Ramadan dates to occur earlier every year. For those who want to receive a flyer and order form later this year, should send their name and mailing address to wcnatxcdotorg. Great job, Paul!!! Count on our Envision’96 churches to get on board in a big way! We’ll want to display your materials in Lexington!

RATS — HAVEN’T SEEN IT YET!
Hoped to be able to tell you about a new video today, from Proclamedia (YWAM productions), but it’s still apparently in route. Still, I’m sure it’ll be dynamite, if you want to go ahead and get your order in now. YWAM and World Christian have over 300,000 titles of books currently in print that are available at a discount. Paul writes, While our heart beat is toward promoting missions-related resources, we can ALSO ship any other book (including those from secular publishing houses). So think of us next time you want to purchase books; you could help Youth With A Mission. To view a booklist of selected titles and prices, direct your web browser to http://www.ywam.org/books.html, or send your mailing address by email to wcnatxcdotorg (tel: 1-719-442-6409). If you already know what books you want, you can just send title and author’s name, and tell us if you want them sent by surface mail or first class / airmail; we can invoice you, and also accept visa and mastercard. Some excellent mission videos can also be ordered, including Challenge of our Unfinished Task (10 min.), and the JUST COMPLETED Joshua Project 2000 video (13 min.). That’s the one I want to see. They’re going to price it at $9.95 for readers! This price includes shipping for USA orders!!!. That’s a super price! (How do these people pay for these videos, video cases, production, scriptwriting, music scores, shipping, and have any money left over for food for their families! I mean… duh… these people have to eat. But I’d better hush or they’ll raise the price back up to the normal $14.95! :-)) More about it next week once I’ve seen it! We hope to use it in July at a special mission mobilizers’ luncheon in Dallas, TX. It’s supposed to be hot… sharing some of the exciting opportunities and challenges among the least evangelized people groups of the world. Thanks Paul, John, and all the folks at Proclamedia!! That’s Colorado for ya! :-)

JUST LUCK FOLLOW-THROUGH
Thanks to those who responded kindly toward the “Just Luck” note in last week’s Brigada Today. One reader wrote,
I thought you would appreciate the definition a friend(Kent Staples) developed a few years ago for the word LUCK.

L = laboring
U = under
C = correct
K = knowledge

Of course the knowledge part is further definable as the knowledge of Jesus Christ and as having the mind of Christ. So as you almost said, there’s no such thing, as luck.
Blessings,
Fred Higgins, Jacksonville, FL.

Thanks Fred! And thanks to the missionary from the Philippines who wrote that he had helped lead some 1,300 people to receive Christ this past month. His conclusion, It didn’t happen by accident. Thanks for your encouraging word. Thanks again to those who labor day in, day out, sometimes with very little thanks, sometimes with very little fruit. Just remember … the game’s not over ’til the ref says so. :-)

And for those who wondered (or wrote)… Yes, we did end up winning the game… but I barely noticed! :-) I was having too much fun learning to play! :-)

NEW PEOPLE GROUP RESOURCE ON THE WEB
Thanks to John Hanna for his tireless work with Caleb Project, people specific advocates, and those researching the least reached! He’s recently acquired an entire collection of some 2 zillion people profiles called the “Nance Collection.” (Actually I think there are only 1,573, but I got the entire list and it seemed to me there were 2 zillion! :-) John writes, These profiles were collected as a labor of love by Robert Nance over the past 10 years. While some of the data is not as up to date as might be wished, they are an excellent starting point for any people-group prayer project or research. The profiles are indexed by people group and country. Within a few days, the full text should also be searchable by popular Internet search engines like AltaVista. In other words, by setting your browser to http://www.altavista.digital.com you should be able to just type in the name of the people group you want to reach and Alta Vista’s search engines will direct you immediately to the proper profile in Caleb Project’s stack.

Now here’s the challenge! Will the folks at AD2000 & Beyond be able to dream up a way to link all 1573 profiles as hot links to their JP2000 list (accessed at http://www.ad2000.org/peoples/peoplex.htm) so it’ll appear as a jump-link on the bottom of the AD2000 & Beyond profiles??? Give ’em about 30 days and I’d lay down next month’s house payment that it’ll be done! :-) Something about these people who live in Colorado makes them motivated to help us pray and learn about the least evangelized! :-) Must be the mountain air or somethin’. By the way, don’t miss the note below. More Colorado. Makes me tired just thinking about it! When I grow up, I should move to Colorado.

GLOBAL GLIMPSE FROM PAKISTAN
An innovative radio program is presenting unprecedented evangelistic opportunities in Pakistan. FEBA Radio is broadcasting a program called Along with Life and it’s generating 400 to 500 letters a month from the mostly Muslim country. Nagina Victor, who develops counseling and relationships with these people, says it’s harvest time in Pakistan. Of the 122-million people in Pakistan, less than two-percent are reportedly Christians.

SPECIAL PRAYER REQUEST FOR PRISONERS
May 9-11 will be historic for prisoners in the Taejon prison in Taejon, Korea, writes Norm Weaver 102774dot1772atCompuServedotCOM, of MSA in Knoxville, TN. As a result of prayer and fasting on the part of over 50 prisoners, the warden has requested a revival campaign to be conducted May 9-11. Sang Ho Kim, and Duk Hae Kwak, two nephews of C. Y. Kim, are in prison because of a frame-up by a former employee of Han Sung Seminary in Taejon, South Korea. Sang Ho, also the minister of Torch Christian Church in Taejon, will lead the revival. Special concessions are being made for this historic event. Members from the Torch Christian Church will be able to attend the services and an unheard of diet of fresh meat and vegetables will be served the prisoners during the meetings. Taejon prison is the largest in South Korea with over 3,500 prisoners, many of them foreigners. Prayer is urgently requested for this significant event! Norm continues, The Unification Church (moonies), will attempt to stop this! Pray that God will triumph and His truth will be declared! Pray for the safety of Sang Ho, Duk Hae, and C. Y. and that God will use them to His glory!
Norm, we’ll count on an update once you’ve heard back, okay? Thanks! And thanks again for being willing to kick off our orders for that global map!

AND FROM THE ‘OOPS’ DEPARTMENT
This just in… About 2 weeks ago Brigada Today ran a 2 line “splash” about my first book, STORYTELLER’S BIBLE STUDY FOR INTERNATIONALS. Although your message generated a good deal of interest, there were two problems with your message the way it was worded:

1. You only wrote that what I had was a storyteller’s Bible. That was not a big problem, since I simply clarified the misunderstanding to everyone who wrote me. But the second problem is more difficult.
2. You wrote that my name was Bill TAYLOR, not Bill PERRY (which is my real name!). I don’t know who Bill Taylor is, but now I’m getting mail for him!

Will you please somehow clear up the confusion in the next Brigada Today, or the closest available issue?
Thanks!
— Bill Perry

Bill Perry lives at 72624dot2215atCompuServedotCOM. Bill Taylor is someone totally different! :-) Reminds me of some kind of good news/bad news joke from a stand-up comedian! :-)
Sorry to buffalo both Bills!

READY TO RECEIVE YOUR MAP ORDER!
Well, the folks at “Customer Service” of the SBC-FMB are ready to receive your order! If you’re calling from within the USA, just call 1-800-866-3621, then if you have a touch-tone phone, select option #1, and then in the next menu layer, option #1 again. You’ll immediately be connected to someone like Shirley, Rosemary or Marilyn… and they’ll be glad to help you with an order for your “global map”.

Response has been overwhelming. Once again, we’re describing a global map designed to show where 7,200 peoples groups live, rather than a couple of hundred political divisions. What’s more, those colored ruby red are the groups with the lowest percentage of evangelical Christians… and right away, at a sheer glance, you can see the needs of the area commonly referred to as the “10/40 Window”. What an effective teaching tool!!!

So request either… The poster size (24×36″), full color map of least reached peoples: $6.95 (this is printed on 80 pound glossy paper, rolled and shipped in a tube)

The Large (36×64″), wall-sized map of least reached peoples: $9.95 (big enough for church foyers and reception areas, again, in a tube)

So are you curious about the size of our partnership response, i.e., all of us working together in concert with network upon network and contact upon contact??? It’s unbelievable. Within two weeks time, over 64,000 maps have been requested Sound impossible??? It’s the truth. Sixty-four thousand+.

So enjoy the benefits of bulk pricing and working together and order a map at 1/3 the price we originally thought we’d have to charge!!!

By the way, if you placed your original request with our first supplier (MSA, who was very quickly totally swamped with hundreds of orders), never fear! The responsible folks there in Knoxville, TN, have carefully noted every order and those orders will be forwarded soon to the Customer Service people at the Foreign Mission Board. You’ll receive the map you requested and will be billed accordingly AT THE NEW LOWER PRICE rather than at the higher price originally anticipated. You do not need to reorder. In fact, if you do, you will be sent both orders!

If you’re outside the USA, you can use any of these methods to order:

attn.: Marilyn Glazebrook
Foreign Mission Board, S. Baptist, Customer Service
PO Box 6767
Richmond, VA 23230
Voice: 804-219-1507; Fax: 804-254-8970
E-Mail: <0002050296atmcimaildotcom>

God bless!!!
[And don’t use up all those pennies!!! Wait ’til you hear about the new least reached video program in the regular Brigada Today this Friday… perfect for your next Mission Fair!]
