TALK AROUND THE WORLD
Thanks to John Redman for his urging that we try out Microsoft’s new NetMeeting software. Designed for Windows ’95, NetMeeting is the latest offering in a series of programs that allow you to use the Internet as a telephone! The difference is that this time, it’s pretty much real-time — and the program is free! I went to http://www.microsoft.com/ie/download/MSNETMTG.exe and grabbed a copy. It configured itself in moments to my Samsung Sens 810 laptop, but I’m told that it’ll do the same for anything with speakers and a microphone. Within 60 seconds of the end of the install, I was talking with a guy named Paul in Denmark (from Cincinnati, USA). John’s right. It’s pretty cool. As long as your access on the Internet is affordable, it’s a cool tool to try. Disadvantages? The party you want to call has to be on at the same time as you. (Kind of like our old ham radio calls back to the USA from Uruguay in 1982.) You also have to have the right equipment — a computer with a microphone. and speakers. But given the disadvantages, it’s still pretty cool. PLUS, some of these programs come with security built in from the ground up . . . so your conversations are supposedly free of the fears built into Internet email…. ie., monitoring stations between you and your friend supposedly can’t intercept and decode your message. [I say supposedly because eventually just about any security can break down somehow.] So . . . if you’ve got time, it’s worth a try. As John said, “I’ve spoken with pastors, among others with startling clarity, just as though I were speaking on a regular phone. Not only so, it is possible to have many people on at once. Can you imagine a conference being conducted on the Internet? This is absolutely amazing. I spoke with a professor at a university in Scotland and he said they were absolutely stunned at what is now possibly and the rapid advance of the technology. THIS CAN REVOLUTIONIZE MISSIONS, EVANGELISM & CHURCH PLANTING.”
(Note that my own experience suggests that, at least in the current version, once you add a third person to the conference, the microphones shut down and you go to only writing and the built-in white board. So those ‘conferences’ that John mentions would, in my opinion, be pretty much like a classic IRC chat.)

————————————–

DID YOU KNOW… (FUN FACTS TO KNOW AND TELL)
Thanks to those who answered last week’s “UNDER-WEB” item . . . Andy Lyons responded, “Any rumors that you have heard about water going in the opposite direction in the southern hemisphere down plug holes etc, are entirely correct!” :-) But Dwayne Rainwater countered, “Concerning your experiments as to which way the water goes down the drains South of the equator, when in [Papua] New Guinea I noticed that… the cold water knob is on the left and hot is on the right, opposite of in the US; the light switch is up for off and down for on; and the water goes straight down the toilet (I don’t know if this was due to the design of the toilet or if it was because we were only 300 miles from the equator) :-) Again thanks to you and your staff for the great information and the good humor. God bless to you, your family, the staff and their families. Grace and peace, Dwayne”

————————————–

DEATH SENTENCE FOR ROBERT HUSSEIN
Open Doors is reporting that Kuwaiti convert Robert Hussein has been sentenced to death by an Islamic court. David Benley wrote, “The verdict was published in a Kuwaiti newspaper on June 9. He has 30 days in which to appeal, but he cannot be tried in the Constitutional Court. ‘The constitution respects freedom of religion…but it does not mean that a Muslim should be allowed to convert from his religion to another.’ Robert has not been able to obtain a lawyer, and as far as we know, is still in hiding.” Better bow and pray on this one.

GLOBAL GLIMPSE FROM CHAD
“If you want to win the world for Christ, you have to win every continent…, every country…, [and] every village,” said Rev. Daidanso, Associate General of the ‘Association of Evangelicals for Africa’ (AEA). Based on this reasoning, the Protestant denominations in Chad, one of Africa’s poorest nations, made an evangelistic plan in 1993 to plant a church in every Chad village without one by the year 2000. That’s 6.3 million mostly Moslem and Animist inhabitants! 1993 saw 35 villages get their first church. In 1994, 67, and in 1995, 211!
(Source: DAWN Europe, Friday Fax, 23-96 http://www.tecc.co.uk/jesusa/dawnindx.html , quoting AEA, Rev. Daidanso;
reported by Steven Downey, in “World Evangelization, magazine for the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization” Tel/Fax (47)-22-200358.)
Global Glimpses are compiled by John Hanna, Caleb Project, Littleton, CO.

KINAPPED MISSIONARY FREE
SIL (The Summer Institute of Linguistics) just announced that Raymond Rising, 54, has been released after being held hostage for more than two years in Colombia. Rising was released June 17 in Meta, Colombia. SIL reported that, “He is now resting comfortably in Colombia and undergoing medical checks.” Chalk one up for our team. Thanks to those who worked for endless months trying to secure this day! We appreciate your determination and your dream! It has now paid off for Raymond and all those who know him!

ENVISION ’96 MOBILIZERS’ LUNCHEON NEARS FULL HOUSE
If you’re wanting to attend the Envision ’96 Mobilizers’ Luncheon at noon on July 2 in Dallas, TX, you’d better call or email right away. Convention Coordinator Walter Birney reports that available seating is rapidly disappearing. Envision ’96 is a conference and celebration scheduled for Nov. 1-3 in Lexington, KY’s Rupp Arena (home of the national NCAA champion University of Kentucky Wildcats). 10 plenary sessions will focus on celebrating what God is doing around the world, church planting among the world’s last remaining least evangelized peoples, prayer, repentance, finishing the task, and dozens of other globally relevant topics. The luncheon in Dallas will preview additional tools, including the newly composed Envision ’96 theme song. On that day, the first 100 participants will have the option of purchasing (I think it’s for $6) the first release of the performance track of “We’ve Come to Envision.” For luncheon tickets or Envision ’96 registration information, call 800-972-1137 or email . For more information on Envision ’96, check out: http://www.xc.org/brigada/e96

WANT TO START AN EMAIL CONFERENCE FOR SOME LEAST REACHED PEOPLE?
First write to helpdeskatxcdotorg and ask for information about obtaining an “xc.org” address. That’s a necessary first step before writing to DLucasatTeamExpansiondotorg for information on how to create a conference.

THANKS TO THE MODERATORS!
Without the help of dozens of moderators, the Brigada dream of working together would be impossible! Today we begin a series featuring that army of volunteers, scattered across the world. Thanks for pitching in! Here are the first dozen conferences, together with the moderators, and the total number of participants.

BRIGADA LATE THAN NEVER!!! :-)
In the Brigada Accounting Office, we’ve made an adjustment in your subscription fees since this issue comes to you on Monday (instead of the normal Friday) . . . but as they always say, “Brigada late than never!”
[TRUTH IN ADVERTISING:
a) NOT!
b) There are no fees for Brigada anyway and
c) my family and I were on a week-long camping trip to the woods of northern Ohio and for the life of me, I couldn’t find a single RJ-11 plug in any of those hickory trees! :-)
Sorry about the late copy, but the fresh air and thunderstorms were great! :-)

————————————–

DID YOU KNOW… (FUN FACTS TO KNOW AND TELL)
…that if you had been collecting previous issues of Brigada Today in 10 point Courier New since the first edition (which we reckon as being Feb. 18, 1995), that today’s email would have shoved you well over the 250-page mark???

————————————–

WANNA BE A GUINEA BISSAU ADVOCATE??? WANNA MEET ONE???
Wanna simply know where the place is??? :-) Guinea Bissau is a small West African country of 1.1 million people. It is to the immediate south of Senegal. Though some mass evangelism has been done, only 1% are Christian. About 8% of the people are literate. The gospel came to GB only 60 years ago and today a small but strong church exists. At present God has provided a wide open door of missions opportunity. There are still several unreached tribes, and the government is very receptive of the Good New of Jesus Christ.

LEAD International Ministry Network is seeking to put together an International Partnership for prayer support and ministry to Guinea Bissau. Its leaders will seek to provide access to anyone interested in ministry to this country. They have extensive relationships with the existing missions works, church leaders, and governmental officials. Their job is to find out who wants to blaze the trails and help them connect.

Contact them c/o USA Tel. (360) 254-5198, Fax (360) 254-7621 or EMAIL to Mike Blondino 102627dot300atcompuservedotcom.

————————————–

UNDER-WEB
From the lands “down under” (New Zealand to be more precise), check out http://www.cmd.org.nz/, the new homepage for the Centre for Mission Direction, a centre for world mission based out of New Zealand). And for those viewing the site from north of the equator, contrary to the rumor, the images do not appear upside-down on your screen. :-) However, I am curious as to whether or not the water spins the opposite direction when headed down the shower drain down there! :-) We’ll try to do some research on that and report it in next week’s “Did you know…” column.

————————————–

ACTS-FACTS
More options for those wishing to further their academic degrees via email — ACTS is a consortium of Believers’ Church seminaries affiliated with Trinity Western University. Located in Langley, British Columbia, Canada, ACTS has been in the business of offering quality Graduate Theological Education for the past eight years. MISSION-WATCH KEEPS ON TICKING
Have you ever sampled the MissionWatch Report, a bi-weekly report produced by Kingdom Ventures with the association of a network of NRMs, SCs, and People Group Advocates? It generally contains some great stuff on “World A” (the least evangelized). You can see its archives at http://www.goshen.net/gem/justin/justin.htm. We’ve used a couple of its items in Brigada Today over the past months and Justin Long has just offered to allow Brigada readers to subscribe free of charge! If you’re interested, send a message to hubatxcdotorg with single line
subscribe missionwatch

in the body of the text. Postal delivery will remain $25/USA, $50/International. The MissionWatch reports breaking events in every World A country every two weeks, plus contains additional information on resources and projects.

————————————–

SHARE JOSHUA PROJECT 2000 WITH YOUR “PALS”
Now, if you use alternative video systems like PAL (Europe) and SECAM (French), ProclaMedia can help by making it available in any format you choose. Plus you can still get it in NTSC (USA). In all cases, the special price of $9.95 still stands. In addition, for orders of fifty or more (any system) at $5.00 each (plus shipping), they can do this really cool thing where they actually put your ministry’s name and address at the end of the video. (For the record, we understand that this was an AD2000 idea so you can promote your own ministry while promoting the needs of the least evangelized. Hey… those guys at the AD2000 Int’l Office are no dummies, are they! :-))

————————————–

ACMC NATIONAL CONFERENCE
Ken Campbell of ACMC (Advancing Churches in Missions Commitment) just wrote to remind us that “the ACMC National Conference time is upon us: WHEATON – JULY 18-20.” He’s given his personal promise: “It’s almost guaranteed NOT to be as hot as it was last year. It IS almost guaranteed to be SIZZLING HOT with ideas and speakers that will feed and refuel you for your missions responsibilities. It IS an annual Opportunity to network and connect people and ideas for the future. Want to start a four-alarm fire for missions in your place? — come to the ACMC National Conference.” For more info or registration, USA callers can dial 800-798-ACMC or anybody can e-mail 76331dot2051atcompuservedotcom.” (Don’t announcements like this just burn you up??? :-)) Thanks Ken!

GLOBAL GLIMPSE FROM SUDAN
In Sudan, a country where many Christians are harshly persecuted, an Islamic teacher and priest (Imam) acknowledged that he converted to Christianity at the end of 1995. He explained that nobody has yet challenged his decision “because they all know me and are well aware that I understand Islam very well; they realize that I must have good reasons for converting.” Following his example, other Moslems have also converted, and he leads a group for Moslems wanting to learn more about Christianity.

SOMETHING’S DEVELOPING FOR INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Better put, something’s already developed! The folks at Pacific Christian College have been working hard on an MBA/MS in International Development programme — and the first classes are scheduled for August, 1996. According to administrator Alan Rabe, “The programme is accredited by WASC, intensely practical, taught online by international experts, and will be delivered totally by e-mail to missionaries, nationals and others around the world.” Cool. On-line grad school. What’ll they think of next!?! Would you want to earn an MBA, MS or Certificate in International Development from a US Christian College while you work abroad? Then send a message to AlanRatXCdotOrg and see what develops!

PLAN NOW FOR THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER FOR THE PERSECUTED CHURCH
It’s Sept. 29, 1996 — and it’s all about praying for those who are facing persecution. ” Despite the rapid growth in the number of democracies worldwide over the past several years, religious freedoms have not increased but have clearly gotten worse,” says the WEF Religious Liberty Commission (Tel. USA 206/742-7923). “WEF believes that religious liberty is the foundation for all other human rights and therefore must be protected and promoted.” For more info. or promotional materials, write BrianOConnellatxcdotorg.

ANTIOCH NETWORK LAUNCHES ON-LINE CONFERENCE
“A quiet revolution in local-church mission initiative has emerged over the last decade, with the Antioch Network playing a key role in gathering churches to this movement and helping them develop their vision,” says church leader Ed Mattson. “Antioch is led by a network of church leaders across broad denominational lines. It enthusiastically partners with other agencies, advocates for excellence in character and leadership, develops unreached peoples tracks to aid adopting churches and appeals to the gifting of a broad base of church members for the sake of outreach to unreached peoples. They also offer seminars and an annual gathering which tends to leave participating churches reeling with a sense of destiny and possibilities. They now have their own conference on Brigada! If you are a pastor, a church mission chairperson or committee member, an agency representative, or a mobilizer and advocate for propelling the local church toward effective mission, you will definitely want to check this out! New subscribers are screened, so e-mail Ed Mattson, the conference moderator, at EdMattsonatXCdotOrg for a short but fairly painless shakedown before entering. Or, subscribe directly by sending an email message to hubatxcdotorg with the following line in the text of the email message:

RUSHIN’ TO RUSSIA? NEED THE LANGUAGE?
Write Russian Language Ministries at 73354dot304atCompuServedotCOM and learn about their Russian language offerings. Mark Canner, Director, says, “All the programs we offer at Russian Language Ministries are intensive. This means that the student studies in the classroom five hours per day during the semester programs and six hours per day during the summer. Summer programs are located on the campus of Columbia International University (formerly Columbia Bible College & Seminary), Columbia, SC. All courses are accredited at the graduate or undergraduate level.” RLM is a non-profit, full-time ministry devoted to equipping missionaries to effectively make disciples in the countries of the Former Soviet Union. “Our courses are specifically designed for missionaries,” explains Mark, “which means that we emphasize the linguistic skills needed to live and minister in Russian-speaking countries. Students learn the language needed for both life and ministry. In addition to focusing on survival in the culture, we spend much of our time working on biblical and ecclesiastical terminology, Russian apologetics, etc., so that the student can develop the skills needed to disciple Russian speakers and lead Bible studies and small discipleship groups.”

————————————–

LIFE NEEDS FOUR LIVES IN JAPAN
LIFE Ministries (San Dimas, CA) is urgently in need of four more workers to join them in Japan this summer in their long-established church-based outreach known as “Scrum Dendo.” Training begins in Los Angeles June 16. According to Gordon Black, “Scrum Dendo workers teach conversational English classes and build relationships with their students in partnership with a Japanese congregation. The churches ready to receive their summer missionaries have already begun promoting in their communities but four recruits have backed out at the last minute leaving LIFE in a bind. If you or someone you know, considered spending this summer in meaningful service to the Lord but thought it was too late to apply to a program, it’s not! You are needed. At this point qualified people are currently more important than raising the $3375.00 to support each of them. LIFE requests a real effort to be made to raise up a prayer and financial support team but they are willing to work with you. If you can be of help, please contact Tim Clark toll free from North America at 1-800-LIFE-678 or via e-mail at 71561dot1373atcompuservedotcom.”

GLOBAL GLIMPSE FROM KOREA
A grass roots movement focusing on a church for every people group is gaining momentum, strength and spiritual vitality in North East Asia. Last week Korean Church leaders committed to focus on 1,150 unreached ethnic groups and launch a church planting effort for each. These groups are many of those who most need the gospel and are spread across the 10/40 Window. This was one outcome while 124 participants from 16 nations representing NE Asian countries and allied ministries combined forces enthusiastically at a consultation in Seoul, Korea.

THOSE ASIANS ARE AT IT AGAIN!
Remember how I told you when I grew up I wanted to be Korean??? Well I wanna’ hurry up and grow up! ‘Cause if I don’t hurry, the Koreans and their partners will have finished the great commission task anyway! :-) Have you heard about the conference in Seoul that just wrapped up today? Yikes. Big news. Luis Bush wrote this morning with some amazing predictions…. many still in the works. But at the very least, the published AD2000 report is saying that 124 leaders from 16 Asian nations joined hands, at one point, and shouted “YES!” in response to the call to commit themselves and their ministries to complete the Joshua Project goals by December 31, 2000. Simultaneously, some 600 Korean Pastors were meeting to discuss new ways to foster cooperation and promote synergy among themselves. It probably comes as no surprise that their response to this challenge was equally affirmative. Specifically, Korean Church leaders reportedly committed this week to adopt at least 1150 of the remaining 1739 Joshua Project 2000 people groups and launch a church planting movement in their midst. Note that this is not just a commitment to send a JP2000 team… but rather, to see that a church planting movement is launched there. Well. Now that the Koreans have claimed 1150 of the 1739, do you think we in the rest of the world will be able to tackle the 680 that remain??? I mean… after all… surely they’re not the only ones with a S[e]oul. When I grow up… :-)

GLOBAL GLIMPSE FROM GERMANY
As the Reconciliation Walk, a Christian march bringing repentance on the trail of the Crusades 900 years ago, reached Cologne, Germany, a wonderful thing happened. A local Turkish Imam (Muslim holy man) was given the printed message of reconciliation, and he invited the 150 participants in the march to the mosque. It was explained in three languages that the marchers had come to apologize for the cruel acts committed in the name of Christ during the Crusades. The Muslims present responded with long and loud applause. “As I heard your message,” said the Imam, “I was amazed and filled with hope. It is my desire that this project be a very great success.”

Global Glimpses are contributed each week by John Hanna, Caleb Project, Littleton, CO.

YWAM’S GLOBAL PERSPECTIVES VIDEO MAGAZINE’S PRICE HAS BEEN SLASHED!
This largely untapped resource is full of news & profiles of YWAM ministries worldwide. It’s intended to keep staff informed of ministries in the greater YWAM family, and when shown in schools, to introduce opportunities to DTS students. Procla-Media is taking a risk! In order to make Global Perspectives available to a larger audience, they are dropping the subscription price to $25 a year and going quarterly–$25 for all countries including postage! (Run the math. How can they do that! :-)) Don Stephens (Mercy Ships Director) says, “Watching [Global Perspectives] will inform you for prayer, involve you for action, and move you with compassion.” It’s appropriate for: YWAM bases, schools, and ministries; families; supporters; and churches.

To subscribe, FAX Global Perspectives at 1 (719) 380-0936 or E-Mail at 76551dot2032atcompuservedotcom. Finally, something worthwhile to use a TV for! :-)

I HAVE SEEN THE FUTURE… AND IT INCLUDES PEOPLE GROUP MAPS
… and now you can see it too. Point your browser to: http://www.xc.org/brigada/world/yanadi.gif and download/view the map of the Yanadi people (the group recently adopted by the Beavercreek Christian Church in Dayton, Ohio EricDerryatxcdotorg. Look at the way online map-viewing could work. By the way, this map and zillions of others like it are available via Global Mapping’s “2021” CD. For more info., send email to hubatxcdotorg with only the following line in the body of the message text:
get brigada 2021

This graphic was prepared for web viewing by MAFxc’s tech imagineer, Jonathan Marsden, and is provided courtesy Global Mapping. Now for the hard part. We need to do another 1699 of these so that every people group in the Joshua Project 2000 list will be viewable online like this – and linked in with AD2000’s people group profiles – as well as other tools (like the new PGC prototype that will someday be available)! :-) But first

1. pray that all the right credits/permissions would be granted so that this project could be moved forward without stoppage
2. pray for a volunteer (who either already owns the 2021 CD or is willing to purchase it for the cause) that would consent to producing GIFs like this for 1699 people groups as a ministry to the entire international community of harvesters!
3. pray for the hard disk space somewhere on the web for these 1/2 gig of maps.

If you’re interested in providing the hard drive space available on the web for this project or in volunteering your time to make the conversions (and purchasing the Global Mapping CDs), send your message to DLucasatTeamExpansiondotorg and we’ll get you together with the right people and hopefully see this project take off! And in the meantime, don’t forget to pray that all the permissions/credits would be granted! :-)

FROM THE “I TOLD YOU I WOULDN’T LOSE MY HOUSE PAYMENT” DEPARTMENT
Remember our “PS” to the item on the Nance People Profiles (Brigada Today, May 3rd issue)? It read, “Now here’s the challenge! Will the folks at AD2000 & Beyond be able to dream up a way to link all 1573 profiles as hot links to their JP2000 list (accessed at http://www.ad2000.org/peoples/peoplex.htm) so it’ll appear as a jump-link on the bottom of the AD2000 & Beyond profiles??? Give ’em about 30 days and I’d lay down next month’s house payment that it’ll be done! :-) Well, guess what! They did it! (… that sigh you heard was from my wife, Penny, making out next month’s house payment check! :-)) We all owe a big thanks to Dan Scribner danatad2000dotorg, of AD2000 & Beyond’s International Office in Colorado Springs. If you stop by the IO there, you’ll recognize him immediately because he’ll be the one with tired fingers after creating worldwide web links manually for the people groups featured in the some 1500+ Nance people profiles!!! The bottom line? Now, when you sift through the profiles at AD2000 & Beyond, you can bounce instantly to the Caleb Project “Nance” links for more info.!!! Are you starting to get the idea that Dan and all the AD2000 & Beyond office staff somehow want all of us to be able find out more about these people that haven’t yet put their faith in Christ Jesus??? :-) Thanks Dan. Now. Go rest. :-)

NEED HELP WITH BRIGADA?

Don’t forget that some conferences (such as Brigada-Peoples-Uygur mentioned last week) are “closed” — so you’ll have to go through a “reference-gathering” process prior to being permitted to take part. We trust you understand that sensitivity is necessary in certain situations.

————————————–

DOCTOR, DREAMER, CD-ROM SEAMER
Now here’s a dreamer for you. This doc (Lew Dick, MD informedataoldotcom) wants to find out if there are folks on the web with the ability to burn CDs… then he wants to find a way to compile a CD-ROM with tons of travel medicine info. for would-be missionary-types and missionary doctors. If you have an interest or a tip, write him informedataoldotcom and get informed!

GLOBAL GLIMPSE FROM NORTH KOREA
North Korea’s underground church has survived because it has Bibles, a missionary to the country said. By preserving and copying Korean Bibles, the church ensured its existence after the communist crackdown, he said. One group of Christians showed him their handwritten Bible. “It had been written in the dark and was scribbled. It was horrible, but they had one.” Last year at least 50,000 Bibles were smuggled into the country.

THANKS FROM LEMMON-AID
Display producer Ralph Lemmon LaDisplaysataoldotcom says thanks for a great response to his offer to help Brigada participants (last week). At last count, he had requests for info. from well over 50 of us! And one participant suggested that he might order as many as 20 displays! Maybe we’d better have special prayer for Ralph and his company! Sounds like they’re going to be pretty busy in these next few weeks!

REQUEST FOR PRAYER AND FASTING TOMORROW (SUNDAY THE 26TH)
Here’s a request from a family living within the former Soviet Union: “This is a request to all believers everywhere to join in an International period of prayer and fasting for the upcoming presidential election in Russia. It will begin on the 26th of May until the election takes place. As you know it is a very critical time here and religious and other freedoms are at stake. Christians in Irkutsk, Khabarovsk, Komsomolsk and other parts of Russia will be fasting on the 26th and praying throughout. We ask that you and others you know join us in this crucial time in lifting our petitions for Russia before His throne. So much work still needs to be done here. May God be merciful to us. Our God is able to do more than we ask or think. Praise His Name! His and Yours, Scott & Carmen.” If you’re willing to pray and fast for this cause, send a message to brigada-prayer-requestsatxcdotorg and, would someone there please report the results back please? :-) Write Scott and Carmen at 103402dot427atcompuservedotcom but please remember that they pay with cold, hard cash for each byte sent to them… (since they’re living in Siberia)! :-)

INTERESTED IN ANIMATION, ARE WE?? HMMM?????

ANYONE DOING BIBLE STUDIES ON A MAC?
If so, Brian Avery brianmanatnsdottmxdotcomdotni would like to know! He’s looking for “Bible study helps, Bibles, concordance, commentaries, etc. for Macintosh computers.” Brian, we’ll count on a summary report in two weeks, okay? :-) (Now here’s the big question: Is anyone out there still using a MAC… [period ]. :-) And just for clarification, we’re talking about the computer , not the hamburger! )
(Attention MAC users: Please don’t send me email bombs. I’m only kidding!)

————————————–

FROM THE “‘NO FREE LUNCH’ BUT MAYBE A SNACK OR TWO” DEPARTMENT
One user (wishing to remain anonymous) wrote this past week with a critique of services like “JUNO” and Freemark (1-800-881-1750), which provide internet access for free. She said, “Both of these services are only for Windows based operations at this point. They have no access for DOS or Macintosh platforms at least right now….” She went on to point out that if a local access number wasn’t available, both Juno and Freenet plan to offer toll-free service in the near future.. which might be a real plus for those in rural areas that don’t have local access to Compuserve or AOL. Also, she reminded us that most towns and cities now have one or more “freenets” that have been developed by community concerns such as libraries, schools, or nonprofits. To find out about an option for your area, consult with your largest local computer store or call a computer guru in the nearest public school or area college. Once again, these freenets might be overcrowded and probably won’t offer travel perks (such as toll-free numbers or multiples hook-up points around the area), but . . ., hey, what do you expect for free! :-) And thanks to the tipster!

————————————–

MISSING A PREVIOUS ISSUE OF BRIGADA TODAY?
It’s entirely likely! In at least one situation recently, the hub machine ran into memory problems after completing a couple of thousand operations for an issue of Brigada Today (don’t you have those kind of days too??? :-)) and jumped out of the loop before finishing the mailing list of 2600+ Brigada Today recipients. (Don’t worry; we don’t think it’ll happen again. We’ve told it that we’ll withhold its midnight snack if it does that again!) So . . . if you’re interested in getting an issue you missed, just jump on the web at where every single issue (since the very beginning) is archived (Thanks again for your tireless service, Bob!). No web access??? Just send a one-line email message to hubatxcdotorg that reads:
filelist brigada

You’ll get a list of all the files maintained there for your viewing pleasure. To get a past issue that you missed, such as the ill-fated “10 of May ’96”, just send another message to hubatxcdotorg that looks like:
get brigada brigada-today.960510
It’ll be mailed back to you automatically, . . . free of charge . . . without delay . . . as long as the hub is in a good mood! :-)

But please, for the sake of our Brigada Customer Serv Mgr, Revis Ann Massey, who receives and corrects all mail sent to brigadaatbrigadadotorg (thanks for your tireless service from the great state of Texas, Revis Ann!), please make sure this and all other “commands” are sent to hubatxcdotorg not brigadaatbrigadadotorg!
