AT LEAST 12,100 ARE PRAYING!
Dick Gaffney at Manna Church of Fayetteville, NC RGaff13817ataoldotcom reports 12,100 registrations to pray for the various people groups on the JP2000 list. If you haven’t registered your intent to pray, write him today! Note that if you’ve already registered at AD2000 & Beyond or Envision ’96, your intentions have already been added to their database. Their goal is to find 10 people/churches for each of the 1739 groups. Just under 5000 to go [assuming these 12,100 are fairly evenly distributed!]! Thanks to the volunteers at Manna!

————————————–

WHERE DO YOU BUY YOUR BIBLES?
Jerry Kingery jerrykatbfdotorg would like to know. He’s willing to compile a list of Bible sources – good prices, great selection, lots of different languages, etc. Maybe SIL or somebody already has a great web site or a giant search engine to give Jerry the answer??? Send your best guess to Jerry and he’ll compile a report for us to post here in a couple of weeks. Thanks!

————————————–

HERE’S A BUNCH OF FREE DENTAL SUPPLIES TO SINK YOUR TEETH INTO!
Several wrote asking for info. on the free dental supplies note….. It’s available from Outreach Latin America 74724dot1506atcompuservedotcom – about a semi truck load.

————————————–

SEND YOUR INTERPRETER TO SCHOOL!
Write servngodatjharperdotminskdotby to find out more about a special course for interpreters… to be held in July in Kharkov, Ukraine and then in Kradnoyarsk, Russia in August.

————————————–

HOW MANY URBANA-ITES WILL HEAD OVERSEAS THIS SUMMER?
According to convention news releases, perhaps as many as 2,753! To see other cool stats from the conference, send email to hubatxcdotorg with the words…
get brigada urbana96

as the only text of the message. It’s a short file… maybe 1/2 page…. but it’s stocked with great stats!

————————————–

WE GET MAIL
Thanks to those who send in notes of encouragement! You are God’s anointed. Apologies that we can’t answer every piece of mail. For example, this week we heard from Brazil…. “Hey, my name is ….. I’m a missionary in the Brazilian Amazon Basin, rather remote. I e-mailed friends to get me the $79 Britannica, and a month later they brought it with them when they came to visit. No problem. THANKS A TON!!!!!! With our love, …” [he named his whole family, kids included…; I’m a sucker for the kids! :-) ] If Brigada can ever help you or yours, we’ll give praise to God!

————————————–

GOT SKILLS? UNCLE PETE WANTS YOU
Have you got special computer or communication skills? Pete Holzmann, Coordinator of the AD2000 & Beyond Interactive Task Force, is putting together a resource catalogue for those who are making inroads into unreached peoples. He’s looking for folks willing to create web pages, host email conferences, write, edit, etc. If you’re interested, send email to hubatxcdotorg with only this line in the text of the message:

HEADED TO SOUTH AFRICA FOR GCOWE’97? CHECK OUT THIS TRAVEL AGENT!
AD2000 & Beyond leadership advised us this past week of a special deal they’ve worked out with a travel agent in Canada . . . schaubeckatbaxterdotnet. According to Debbie Wood, you can perhaps save hundreds by using her since she’s selling South African Airways flights at wholesale costs directly to GCOWE participants. Check her out!

PHONE HOME… VIA THE SKY
Remember the satphone we mentioned last week? MAF has agreed to discount it for those purchasing during the remainder of April. Just tell them you heard about it on Brigada Today. One user wrote… “What a blessing it has been during the past month to have the capability of communicating with our missionaries. Without it we would not have known the situation … during some very tense times. But with the phones we were able to activate our prayer chain across the country within minutes after getting a call. On several occasions the phone call came as a very dangerous situation was arising and the call was to the point – “The city is being bombed – I’m frightened. I need your prayers.” To order a Planet I satphone, write

or phone: (909)794-1151
or fax: (909)794-3016.

RESEARCHER NEEDS AFRICAN AMERICAN LEADS
Remember Jim Sutherland sutherlandjatutcdotcampusdotmcidotnet? He’s the guy researching African American cross-cultural missionaries. His questionnaire is done and he’s making one last stab at gathering participants for the study. He wrote this week, “My method is to give a questionnaire to African American missionaries who are serving those who are NOT African American, in this country or abroad, who have been on the field at least one year, currently or in the past. I’d appreciate the names and addresses of such missionaries, or whatever information your readers might have, including mission names. Also I’d appreciate suggestions for contacting others on the Internet with whom I might network regarding this problem. Thanks again. Sincerely, Jim Sutherland.” Please contact Jim directly at the address above. Jim is apparently doing his work at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Deerfield, Il., under Dr. Crawford Loritts, of Campus Crusade. Sounds very interesting. He’ll make a summary report available to us as he closes out his research.

O-HI-O – GET YOUR PRAYER CALENDARS IN JAPANESE OR AFRIKAANS NOW!
Yup. Now you can get Praying Through the Window III calendars in Japanese by writing japminatibmdotnet. Share them with your Japanese cell groups, ministries, churches, etc. They also make great conversation pieces for the coffee table. (Everyone will be convinced you’re so “cross-cultural”! :-) ) You can also get the Afrikaans version by writing nupsaatglobaldotcodotza. Thanks Brenda!

GREAT IDEA FORMING UP FOR REACHING MUSLIMS
Here’s a guy in Ukraine who is eager to reach Muslims. Truth is . . . the mission church where he’s been doing leadership training has already sent two missionary families to a Muslim group nearby! Great success story in and of itself. Anyway… he’s been hearing stories of Muslims who are willing to watch videos . . . even though they have some . . . shall we say… Christian leaning. So-o-o-o-o-o-o-o . . . he’s curious as to what type of videos exist that specifically address themes like The life of Muhammad, The development of the Qur’an, Comparisons between the Qur’an and the Bible, Major points of conflict between Islam and Christianity… (like Are Christians Polygamists?, What Christians mean by saying that Jesus being the Son of God?, Is the Bible reliable?, Did Jesus really die on the Cross?), Testimonies by Muslim converts to Christianity [as he wrote, “(obviously – slightly more biased on this one :-)”]. So . . .what can we send him??? Chris is at ma. So . . . Chris . . . if you hear from anyone, we’ll count on a summary listing (with sources) here, okay? Thanks! Great idea, by the way.

GLOBAL GLIMPSE BEHIND THE BAMBOO CURTAIN
Deng Xiaoping, the Chinese leader who recently died at the age of 92, was “an instrument of revival”, according to Chinese house-church leaders. They say “he was God’s unwilling instrument to help bring revival to China. He gave us the freedom to evangelize by not using the devices to punish us when we did exactly that.” A house-church leader in Guangdong said “Deng replaced Maoist ideology with a materialistic philosophy: get rich quick. This started many people on a spiritual quest, asking if they are only there to buy a larger television or a better fridge.” Although house churches continue to grow rapidly in China, some of the most visible house-church leaders have reportedly been recently imprisoned again.
(Source: Compass Direct, PO Box 27250, Santa Ana 92799, USA. Fax 714-531-2681, e-mail compassdratCompuservedotcom, via DAWN Friday Fax)
Global Glimpse is garnered greatly by good guy John Hanna, Caleb Project Littleton, CO.

USE YOUR BCC LINE!
Geoff “from down under” (Australia) reminded us this week that we could reduce Internet bandwidth 10 or 20% immediately just by using the “BCC:” box (instead of the “CC:” line) for that long list of addresses to which we’re copying some message. In each case, that would cut down the length of the message significantly! Great idea Geoff!

————————————–

HUNGARY HUNGRY FOR DISCIPLES
Got an appetite to train disciples to be disciplers of other disciples? (Now that’s a mouthful! :-) ) So does Brad, a church planter in Hungary who is looking for resources: (books, tapes, studies, etc.). Chris Bushnell ChrisBushnellatXCdotorg is willing to compile the resource list. Send in your vote… and the answers will be made available here in a couple of weeks! I can’t think of a more important question – if our goal is to create multiplying church movements!

PICK A FIELD FOR A “BRIGADA MISSION COUPLE”
Here’s the deal. We’ve got this missionary couple willing to basically go anywhere – where no man has gone before. If you were to pick the most desperately needy people group in the world . . . and a whoppin’ giant one… to which group would you send them??? Don’t worry about money, don’t worry about visas, and don’t worry about on-site expertise. Instead, just focus on pure need. Make sure the group is big enough to be strategic… and has no church movement in its midst . . . and send your proposals into DLucasatTeamExpansiondotorg with the subject line “final frontier” (please do put that in the subject line). These proposals could be as simple as, “Send ’em to the ____ people group of Indonesia; there are 5 million in that group and not a single fellowship of believers” . . . or they could be a 3-page summary of your two years of research on the group. If it’s possible to provide a contact person that you’d recommend, please supply that – but don’t list names and addresses of people living in sensitive areas of the world. We’ll study the proposals with the couple, then report their conclusions. And yes, I’m not kidding, they’re really going to try to go to the most desperate situation they can find. We’ll try to follow their progress over the coming years to see what God does among the group…. as much as security allows. So – – – let’s get those cards and letters coming! :-)

————————————–

PIT-STOP DENVER TO FEATURE 3 PROJECTS YOU’LL WANT TO KNOW ABOUT
You’ve heard about the “Amdo video,” one of the sharpest prayer tools to break out of the editing rooms lately?? Meet the guy who wrote the script and hear about how to put together a prayer journey straight from his own words. And have you heard about the Evergreen project in China, where local government officials have invited Evergreen representatives to even help train city police officials??? Listen to the principles and approaches they’re using, hear the answered prayer, then lift up the needs of that giant nation side by side with others who share your passion for the unreached. Oh – and did I mention you’ll be able to learn about how God is raising up an entire network to reach the Pashtun? Hear straight from the guy who helped launch a movement within his local church (and he’s not even the Sr. Pastor!) that is now engulfing many others with a passion to reach the Pashtun. And on top of these three successful studies, hear mini-reports from dozens of other projects, each shared with a view toward what you can transfer back to your church, agency, or mission field. Find out how to introduce concerts of prayer for your adopted people. Brainstorm through a “pert chart” that shows your deadlines, goal-owners, and mileposts for the next 18 months as related to over 100 important measuring sticks. Delve into a whole notebook full of guidelines and pick up a diskette crammed full of the latest information. And join Caleb Project’s CEO as he leads us to the throne room of God to pray this stuff into reality! It’s all available at Pit-Stop Denver, Apr. 25-26, at Littleton Christian Church (suburban Denver) – jointly sponsored by Caleb Project, Kingdom Building Ministries, Team Expansion, PACE, “Pit-Stops,” and Brigada. For more information, see http://www.brigada.org/pace. Entire weekend, including the notebook, materials, program, diskette, most meals, and the fellowship – just $45. SO WHERE DID WE GET THE NAME, “BRIGADA”???
“bree-GAH-dah” is both Russian and Spanish for a “brigade.” You know – the kind that used to pass buckets of water person to person, so that a whole house fire could be doused. While helping with a refugee resettlement project in the former Soviet Union among Muslim Crimean Tatars, we watched first hand over a period of months the way they would get together to build a house in a resettlement project, sometimes all in one day. Neighbors would pitch in, relatives, even friends from across the village – because time was short and conditions were desperate. The whole thing (in Russian) was called a “bree-GAH-dah” – a house brigade. Well today, conditions are no less desperate. In fact, we believe the situation calls for us all to stand shoulder to shoulder to “pass the bucket” from one project to another – the bucket of encouragement, case studies of experience, prayers and petitions for the saints in needy situations. That’s what Brigada is all about. Under the Brigada umbrella are some 70 email activated “conferences,” all of which are trying in one way or another to mobilize an army of nations to show concern and love for the lost. That’s the dream of Brigada!

————————————–

PRAY FOR ONE UNJUSTLY JAILED
Have you heard the story of the missionary in Guatemala, unjustly jailed for trying to help settle a town kidnapping? Grab the whole story by sending email to hubatxcdotorg with only the words,
get brigada jailed

in the text of the message. This note keeps coming into my inbox. For some reason, it’s really making the rounds as people try to lift up the destiny of this falsely accused interloper who apparently was only trying to help but could now face imprisonment for “murder” or worse. Find out the details and lift up this need in prayer, please. And by the way… this is no hoax. These notes come from people we know . . . who know this guy. So it’s for real!

————————————–

WHAT ABOUT THIS “PrayUSA!” THING?
This is one successful prayer mobilization strategy! If you’re from the USA, it could really give balance to your prayer thrust – and help those in your church to realize that you’re not only concerned about prayer for the nations. PrayUSA! is 30-days of prayer and fasting April 1-30, 1997, sponsored by Mission America (the USA national initiative of AD2000 & Beyond). It now involves dozens of denominations, hundreds of prayer ministries, thousands of churches, and millions of intercessors! Its purpose is to mobilize people to fast and pray for revival in the United States (our “Jerusalem”) using a 30-day reproducible prayer calendar, a 20-piece kit, a 14-minute video, and lots of mobilizers. It could serve as a pattern for prayer throughout other lands… and part of the thrust in PrayUSA! is to pray for the nations anyway! :-) As part of the thrust George Otis (Sentinel) has identified 30 “trouble spots,” so that one-a-day, prayer-warriors can walk the world. For info, call toll-free from the USA 1-800-569-4825. Join 22 denominations, Participants in all 50 states, hundreds of prayer ministries in partnership, and commitments to mobilize 14,482,780 people worldwide including… 200,000 in Dominican Republic, 55,000 in Solomon Islands, and 3,000 in India! These guys are serious. I just got the packet yesterday and it is well put together, very clear, and very well-funded. Write prayusaatjunodotcom or fax 281-855-6540 or see http://www.usprayertrack.org. We can all learn from this one. Only thing is… I wish we had more time to prepare for it! :-)

————————————–

MRS WINTER’S SITUATION COULD BE IMPROVING
The latest news is both good and bad, but the bottom line is that there are a lot of positive signs indicating that Dr. Ralph Winter’s wife is improving from the cancer for which she has been receiving treatment for months. Please pray that she would be totally healed so that this saintly couple could continue to mobilize at the US Center for World Mission and throughout the globe.

————————————–

WANT TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE GATEWAY PEOPLE CONSULTATION.. OR HELP??
You can, without even leaving you home. Consultation organizers have created three conferences for these last three weeks’ preparation. You can join and jump into the discussion today. “gpcc-delineation” is a technical discussion for those who want to discuss which upgs should be in which clusters. “gpcc-discuss” is a general discussion relating to the goals of the GPCC: linking the resource base (and adoptive churches) with the field. “gpcc-announce” is for those who plan to attend or who would attend if they could. You know how to join… send email to hubatxcdotorg with only the words,
subscribe gpcc-announce
or whichever conferences you want to join.

Three weeks to go before this landmark event draws attention and planning for clusters of the least reached people groups and the networks forming to reach them. The world’s researchers, mobilizers, and missionaries are coming together at the US Center to figure out answers… and now you can join them even if you can’t travel to Pasadena! Take part in discussions with Patrick Johnstone, John Hanna, Luis Bush, and many others. Finish the task!

Cool! Who would have thought that we missionary-types could take part in so many activities and gizmos that would allow our latent “James Bond” inner selves to be so well expressed!!!! :-) Course, . . . now we just need three grand to buy one of the things! :-) I wonder if anyone rents these little guys! :-) I have a hunch the insurance wouldn’t be cheap. The drug runners must love them! :-)

PATRICK JOHNSTONE LANDS AN ASSISTANT VIA BRIGADA
Remember our appeal for staffing for Patrick Johnstone, hard at work preparing the next Operation World? Well, it appears that he’s found someone via the Brigada responses [see “OPPORTUNITY OF A LIFETIME”, from 21 of Feb., ’97 issue]. Thanks for working together, Brigada family! You’re making a world of difference . . . at least it seems likely that you did for Patrick Johnstone!

ON-LINE SEMINARY PROGRAMS, LEND US YOUR EAR… OR EMAIL
Here’s a guy asking where he can get on-line seminary education. Okay colleges and seminaries… let’s send our responses to RonLawlerataoldotcom. He’ll compile them and send in a report in two weeks. We’ll post it here for all the world’s missionaries to see. . . and study! Please mention in particular any missions or cross-cultural studies program that might appeal to a broad audience of workers from around the world.

BRIGADA-CITIES INVOLVED IN COOL CITIES PRAYER REQUESTS
I like what Aubrey is doing on Brigada-cities these days. She’s kicking off each week with an intro. to a particular key city (like this week it’s Tirana, Albania), then inviting members of brigada-cities (currently well over 200) to respond with specific prayer requests and case studies on that city. If you’re into the urban scene… or you have a moment to pray… send email to hubatxcdotorg with only the words,
subscribe brigada-cities

in the text of the message. You’ll be glad you did. And Aubrey, Viv, and all the rest, great ministry you’ve got going there! For a look at just one of the projects that Viv, Matthew, Jonathan, and the rest of the ‘-cities’ crew has launched, see http://www.xc.org/brigada/adcities. Quite an accomplishment for a bunch of volunteers! :-)

WHERE TO GET INFO. ON YOUR FAVORITE “UNVIRUS”
Want to find out whether the “Jessica Mydek cancer patient” email is actually a hoax? Look at http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/hoax.html and you’ll be able to read all about “Good Times”, “Irina”, and many others. Email viruses consist of the bandwidth they needlessly use up – and it’s up to all of us to stay on top of them… or they’ll be on top of us! So what about the mystery of “Jessica Mydek?” :-) It’s a hoax too. See http://www.cancer.org/chain.html to read the whole story. As far as the American Cancer Society can determine, it was a big hoax from the very beginning. :-( Sad… but true. But ACS has a great closing paragraph that helps people really focus on the needs of cancer victims and the good intentions of those who are participating in furthering the “jessica” hoax (by relaying the email to 10 zillion of their friends). Worth a read. So, Jason from Brazil . . . your suspicions were correct!

WANT A GREAT DEAL ON MISSIONARY PRAYER CARDS?
“Les” says to head for The Howard Print Shop, hpsprintatnetusa1dotnet, Fax: (765)453-0054, Phone: (765)453-6161. Apparently they came in at 1/3 the price of Les’ last prayer cards – from another vendor – and the quality was excellent. Make sure you tell “Howard” you heard about it on Brigada! Hey – they’re full color! :-)

GREAT RESPONSE ON REGISTERING PRAYING CHURCHES/PEOPLE
Remember the church out east that is registering those who have agreed to pray for specific people groups on the Joshua Project list? They report a great response . . . “from all over, and it really blesses us to hear about what many others are doing.” They’ll keep us informed about the number of congregations/individuals who have signed up to pray for specific groups. Keep in mind that praying for a group is the first step, but it’s only a step. To really get involved in planting a church there, someone will probably have to go there. For that, why not come to Pit-Stop Denver or some other kind of mobilization/planning event. Also, one Brigada participant wrote in to ask us why a local church would be registering these numbers. Why wouldn’t AD2000 & Beyond be doing it, for instance? Well – this church is precisely the registering arm of the Prayer Track of AD2000 & Beyond. Also, someone else asked why Adopt-a-people Clearing House wouldn’t be doing it. Keep in mind that the Adopt-a-people Clearinghouse tells us that it has never considered this mission to be its purpose. Rather, it has tried to gather research (profiles) and distribute them . . . but has not majored in tracking adoptions. The truth is, until AD2000 & Beyond came along, nobody was trying to. So I say, . . . if these folks are willing to tackle it, let’s use their services! They’re in touch with AD2000 & Beyond’s office in Colorado and will be sharing/receiving all cross-registrations. Again, to register your interest, write to Dick Gaffney at Manna Church of Fayetteville, NC RGaff13817ataoldotcom. Also, Dick clarifies that we probably shouldn’t be using the term “adoption” for this purpose… but rather, networking, mobilizing, . . . or maybe registering your interest to pray.

MEANWHILE THIS REPORT FROM AD2000 & BEYOND
The International Office of the AD2000 & Beyond Movement issued a press release this past week citing the results of their 10-month survey on what’s happening among the 1739 Joshua Project 2000 list of Unreached Peoples. Pretty encouraging data. By their definitions, AD2000 & Beyond calculates that there is now a church-planting movement among at least 897 of those people groups. By AD2000 definitions, then, I guess that means we’re halfway to our goal of “a church for every people”??? At least 757 groups have been targeted for prayer, while 1157 have agencies already on-site, intending to plant churches. The full report is available by sending email to hubatxcdotorg with only the following line in the text of the message:
get brigada jp2000-progress

This is very recent data. The report is dated March 26th, ’97. Thanks to Dan Scribner, Lauri Dennis, and Luis Bush, along with all those who participated in the entire survey!

WE GET MAIL
Thanks for the very encouraging notes and “birthday cards” for Brigada. We’re in your debt for the encouragement! Only one snippet of an example, since space is fleeting… This note came from David in Fort Worth, TX: “Praise God for Brigada Today. My only regret is that I missed two years before I learned of your existence. Your “Global Glimpse …” is awesome – in the best spiritual sense of the word! … For the last two months we have been putting together a small net of missionaries and rope holding prayer warriors who are/have been associated with the University Baptist Church of Fort Worth, Texas. … Your work is blessing us. Please keep it up. And remember, God can do a lot with garlic! Much of your garlic, it seems to me, is work-in-process! In our Lord Christ, David Gray.” Thanks David and all!

GLOBAL GLIMPSE OF HOPE
As a young man, Silas grew up learning witchcraft. After he was kicked out of school he joined a gang, rising quickly due to his power to ruin people’s lives. Running from the law, he visited an old friend and found a change. “I found out that he had been born again,” he said. “He shared the Gospel with me and encouraged me to give up my evil ways.” Silas joyfully received Christ as his Lord and Savior that night. He began attending church with his friend and was publicly baptized. But Silas’ family didn’t share his joy. His father, a well-reputed witch doctor, kicked his son out of the home. Silas returned to his friend’s house and continued to study the Bible. Finally he heard God calling him to full-time ministry. After a year of intensive training at one of Gospel for Asia’s native missionary training centers, Silas now shares the Gospel among the unreached villages. Instead of destroying lives, he now leads people to new birth in Christ.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRIGADA!!!
Join us as we celebrate 2 years of focus on mobilization for the final frontiers! The first “edition” of Brigada Today was a simple test letter between two individuals, Jonathan Marsden and Doug Lucas. Within a month, there were 38 participants and with the Feb. 18th issue, the idea of Brigada Today and the Brigada family of networks began to take shape in a more concrete way. March 21st was set as the official “public opening” and by that day, there were more than 100 involved. Interestingly enough, by August 23rd, just when we were about to celebrate topping the 800 mark and introducing something called the “People Group Consultant,” we ran this item:

“FROM THE “LET’S GET SERIOUS ABOUT VISION” DEPARTMENT
Ya know, I always thought that if a person was highly technical, highly skilled, highly process oriented, then they would probably be pretty scared about bulging growth. Not so with Jonathan Marsden, who manages the technical end of CrossConnect and, as such, helps with Brigada technical projects. When I asked him this past week about how he felt about Brigada growing past the 800 mark, I was surprised to hear him say he wasn’t satisfied. “I won’t be happy until we have 10,000 people on board, with hundreds of conferences about least reached people groups and cities all over the world.” Wow. When I grow up, I want to be like that. :-) ” [end of quote]

And now, with well over 5000 people involved, we’re halfway to Jonathan’s goal… but we’ve got a long way to go to really make a dent in the task. Most recently, we’ve been coming to grips with the fact that there’s not as much intentional networking for specific people groups as we originally hoped to spawn. But even that might be changing.

————————————–

GARLIC AND GARDENIAS FOR BRIGADA
So how do we answer when people ask, “What are the five greatest strides forward and the five greatest “missed opportunities” so far with Brigada? Here’s our “garlic and gardenias” grasscatcher list:

* Gardenias to the sheer numbers of people who have jumped on board
* Garlic to the fact that those numbers haven’t translated into “action forums” for unreached groups

* Gardenias to the number of “connections” all of us now enjoy to virtually any subject in practically any part of the world! (If Brigada Today carries a query about just about anything, people tell us they get anywhere from 7 to 70+ responses giving answers and resources.)
* Garlic to the continuing questions about security for “open” conferences and the ongoing “wait” for everyone to start using PGP (until it’s built into the email client that we use [like it is in Pegasus], it’s unlikely that we’ll take it seriously)

* Gardenias to the volunteerism we see that makes the Brigada concept possible! (E.g., to Revis Ann Massey, who faithfully handles questions and problems for a 5000+ mailing list [some magazines have 10 people to handle that same work load and Rev’ does it as a labor of love while participating on a cross-cultural church planting team in Miamia]! … and to Bob Mayhew for amazingly consistent web-mastery, transferring everything to HTML on a weekly basis, again as a labor of love! And join us as we celebrate our two-year anniversary with a new brigada domain… http://www.brigada.org ! … and to contributors like John Hanna and Mark Kelly who go on week after week, month after month, writing their columns, gathering their resources/info., AGAIN, as a labor of love. You get the idea!]
* Garlic to our inability to figure out how to recruit volunteers to moderate proactive information-sharing conferences for the least reached people groups on the JP2000 list.

* Gardenias to the folks at MAFxc (like Jonathan, Rex, Bob, and early on, for Cathleen Sward) who have managed somehow to put together a bunch of wildly fun tools with incredible potential that we can all use for an insanely reasonable cost! … and to MAF (the mother ship) for believing in electronic communication enough to make the investment and buy CrossConnect from it’s original holding organization back when CrossConnect was still more of an idea than it was a producer of any funding at all.
* Garlic to the ideas that have never really become full reality, like the full implementation of the People Group Consultant and brigada-travel-bids (which has too many customers asking for business and not enough travel agents on board to handle all the requests!).

* Gardenias to my wife and two boys, and to the board to which I am responsible at Team Expansion for giving me up to this labor of love for an additional 10-20 hours per week to handle the extra workload to lead the Brigada family of networks and compile Brigada Today each week.
* Garlic to the fact that I wish we could do more promotion, more marketing, more intentional growth planning, more experimentation, more recruitment, more information packets, more cutting edge stuff!

So . . . on this 2-year anniversary, we say thanks to all Brigada participants and make a very simple birthday wish: that God would enable us to make some small contribution to the global growth of His kingdom. We don’t wish for big numbers if they aren’t effective at bringing change; we don’t long for new technology if it doesn’t put us better in touch with people worldwide; we don’t yearn for publicity, a “name” or anything earthly… but that You, or Lord, would be exalted through our every word, our every step, our every keystroke. That’s our prayer. That’s the purpose of Brigada.

————————————–

THIS IS THE EVENT TO FOCUS ON HOW TO IMPLEMENT AN ADOPT-A-PEOPLE PROJECT
And it’s coming up fast! April 25-26 in Littleton, Colorado (Greater Denver). The combined forces of Caleb Project, Kingdom Building Ministries, Team Expansion, PACE, Pit-Stops, and real live local church people (who are actually out there doing it!) are coming together to help advance the “edge of the envelope” on fulfillment of adopting a people group. The price is right (you get a full 3-ring notebook, set of diskettes, complete program, food, and great fellowship/training/inspiration for $45!!! Check it out at http://www.brigada.org/pace to get full details. Featured speakers include Greg Fritz, Director of Caleb Project; Steve Moore, who wrote the script and helped master mind that hot new Amdo prayer video; Doug Lucas (I promise to have tons of fun PC graphics on the data projector); Eric Derry, Missions Minister at Beavercreek Christian Church in greater Dayton, Ohio, who helped bring you Envision ’96; plus representatives from projects in China, Pashtun, and more! So don’t delay! Check out the web site or send email to hubatxcdotorg with only the following line in the text of the message:

YOU WAITED FOR THEM FOR YEARS!!
You were frustrated not to be able to give the body of Christ up to date information on unreached peoples! Your intercession times lacked depth because you just didn’t know enough to pray effectively! You searched the world over for profiles, but came up empty!

Well, your search is over. The PRAYER PROFILES are FINALLY HERE!!! For the past 15 months, Bethany World Prayer Center has been producing Prayer Profiles for each of the 1,739 groups on the current Joshua Project list. These profiles are now coming off the press at a steady pace. For only $0.20 each, you can get the latest information on the unreached, presented in a glossy, easy-to-look format. You won’t find a better or cheaper profile anywhere in the world. And they are available NOW!

If you would like to order a catalog of the currently produced profiles please e-mail us at: upgatbethany-wpcdotorg or you can write us at: 13855 Plank Rd., Baker, La. 70714 Ph:504-774-2002 Fax:504-774-2001. Also, check them out on the web at http://www.bethany-wpc.org/profiles/home.html. We owe these folks a big round of applause . . . and more for the ton of work they’re doing on behalf of the Kingdom! Thanks Rick, Gabriela, and all at Bethany!

SO HOW DO YOU SPELL CHURCH-PLANTING?
Let’s say you’re successful in mobilizing a team of cross-cultural workers . . . and you field your team . . . and you’re over there ready to go. . . . so… Now what?! How do you plant a new church? If you’ve got a favorite resource or guidebook (we all assume that the Bible is our primary guide, of course), send a note to Wayne Penner wpenneratnutecnetdotcomdotbr. The results will be compiled and made available on Brigada. These could include books, videos, training program, email lists, etc.

11,000 AND COUNTING . . . AND PRAYING!
As reported last week, the Manna Church of Fayetteville, NC has taken up the task of recruiting prayer “adopters” for all 1739 unreached peoples on the Joshua Project 2000 list. Join them in celebrating the crossing of the 11,000 mark – i.e., 11,000 churches recruited to pray specifically for unreached people. Dick Gaffney, from the office there, writes “If you’d like to report an adoption in your church or group, include a mailing address (US post office) so that we can mail immediately mail out an info packet, explaining the project. A reply by mail postcard is included in that packet which will allow them to request an unreached people group if and when they make the decision to sign on. Due to the large number of responses we have and/or expect, we just will just not have sufficient time to respond to each inquiry on an individual basis.” Dick and his team will keep us informed as time goes on. So watch for continuing adoptions! Send your people group to Dick RGaff13817ataoldotcom along with mailing instructions for the USA if possible.

GLOBAL GLIMPSE FROM ADDIS ABABA
Andrew Meekens, an elder in the International Christian Church in Addis Ababa, was one of the victims of the tragic plane crash last November, when the aircraft ran out of fuel after being hijacked. One of the members of the cabin crew recently reported that following the pilot’s announcement of his intention to attempt an emergency landing, Meekens stood up and spoke to calm the passengers. He explained the gospel of Jesus and invited the people to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. The surviving steward reported that 20 people responded, including one of his colleagues who was killed in the crash.

HERE’S YOUR CHANCE: BRIGADA SUBSCRIBERS TO PICK FIELD FOR MISSION COUPLE
Now here’s an interesting twist. Next week, we’ll begin the story of how one mission couple has decided to ask the people of Brigada where they should go as cross-cultural workers! Watch closely for next week’s announcement about how it’ll unfold. Exciting to see God at work!

GREAT RESPONSE TO LAST WEEK’S “UNREACHED PEOPLES CONFERENCES” PLAN
Several began the process of obtaining an XC.org address… and others sent encouraging words. “Doug, I am impressed,” wrote Justin Long, from David Barrett’s office out East. “Very. Extremely. Gratified. Thrilled beyond words. Beyond measure. That is the sort of visionary commitment to the least evangelized that we need. And you CAN use my name.” Thanks for the encouragement, Justin and others.

Some of the most helpful input came from John Hanna and Jonathan Marsden, who suggested we begin by setting up place-marker conferences for the gateway people clusters (larger clusters of JP2000 people groups, originally proposed by Patrick Johnstone). So then John Hanna was willing to go to work and parse out email addresses in AD2000 & Beyond files, Envision ’96 records, and his own files. We currently have proposals in the hands of several key people group “critical thinkers” to make sure we’re setting up the right list (of some 126 or so new email conferences). Watch for more info next week!

————————————–

REGISTER YOUR INTENT TO PRAY!
At the request of the AD 2000 & Beyond “United Prayer Track – Praying Through the Window Committee,” the Manna Church of Fayetteville, NC has assumed responsibility to recruit 17,390 churches worldwide to pray, prayerwalk, and plant an indigenous church within each of the 1,739 unreached people groups by December 31, 2000. [No small order task!] The short term goal is to assign and network 10 churches each to pray for each of the 1,739 people groups, hence the figure 17,390. The long term goal is to obey Matthew 24:14 which states, “…this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”

In order to accomplish this long term goal, the Prayer Network Office has been created and is actively recruiting churches of all persuasions to become active participants in this prayer initiative. Individual churches and/or church leaders may obtain more information by contacting Lynn Morrow the Network Center at (910) 864-8882, fax (910) 864-8998, or e-mail 102575dot1436atcompuservedotcom. [This is a great opportunity to reach and touch ‘to Morrow’! :-) ] (If you’ve already registered your interest with AD2000 & Beyond at the Int’l Office or at Envision ’96 at the Adoption Center, you need not re-register. They’re going to merge everything together.) This is a great sign. Local churches getting involved in enlisting the help of other local churches! GREAT stuff! By the way, the folks at this center have agreed to give Brigada Today weekly updates as to how many of the groups have been adopted! Yahoooo!

They’ll accept teams or individnals. Those involved will participate in a conversational English teaching program with Asian university students. They will also he involved in friendship evangelism among young people who have never heard the gospel before. It’s a seven-week program from June24 to August 19. The only qualifications necessary are: at least one year of college, a love for people, a good grasp of the gospel, and the ability to work on a team. All training and teaching materials are provided. They even offer substantial financial help to make the journey possible. But act fast. The deadline is upon us. SEE THE CD FROM GALCOM!
OApparently, the folks at Galcom International had an overwhelming response to the item on their Missions Data Base CD that was posted in the Feb. 2nd Brigada Today (” BEST DEAL IN THE GALAXY-COM!”) with hundreds of requests for information and orders for the base CD. For those of you that received one, Galcom would like feedback on how to improve it and make it more useful/helpful to “tip of the sword” missionaries and prayer warriors. For those who did not get one, there are still some available. Since the Feb. 2nd item, we’ve rec’d several requests to repeat the information. Once again, as a reminder, these guys have developed a CD missions data base as an aid for informed prayer for the unreached peoples groups and as a reference tool for missions. The current demonstration issue contains the PIN peoples group data base of unreached peoples groups, 22,000 screens of text, 250 pictures, drawings and videos and 50 voice files. It profiles many missionaries and ministers working among unreached people groups. It also has a separate file of people groups designated as “least evangelized”, answers to questions on adopting a people group, current disease outbreak information, information on most known terrorist groups, and address of many world mission ministries. It will run on any IBM compatible 386 or higher and is an excellent reference aid and also a tool for churches and prayer groups who participate in “pray through the window”. The CD sells for $15. To order send request with postal address to: GalcomUSAataoldotcom. Thanks to the gang at Galcom!

DID YOUR CONGREGATION ADOPT A PEOPLE GROUP?
Have you got a case study to share about how it energized your church missions committee or missions outreach? If so, Verlin would like to know! Write him at verlinandeataoldotcom and I bet we’ll be able to talk him into compiling the results for us and sending them to us for a later issue? He’s headed to an unreached people group and not everyone believes he’s on the right track to start a project there. He’s specifically looking for the impact on the local church back home… and/or the final accomplished impact on the unreached people group – from adopt-a-people projects in particular.

REMEMBER THE TROPICAL MEDICINE INQUIRY?
Well it’s baaaaa-aaaaack… “LOOKING FOR A TOP BANANA TROPICAL HEALTH COURSE?” invited readers to contact Elizabeth Sharplin 75222dot402atCompuServedotCOM to send her a tip if on any top notch courses in tropical medicine. She came through!!! And so did you! Her thorough listing can be retrieved by sending email to hubatxcdotorg with only the words,

GOT A COMPUSERVE QUESTION???
Like… how do we change to a new “personal address” without falling out of sync with MAFxc conferences (short answer: unsubscribe from all MAFxc conferences before you make the change effective!), or do we really have to convert the commas to periods when giving our address to someone who is going to write us over the Internet, … or how to conquer your latest version transition, . . . just write “the Compuserve lady” . . . Sharon Hindle 71712dot3534atCompuServedotCOM. Thanks for your volunteer help, Sharon!

The AD2000 & Beyond folks are asking us to pray for the upcoming Global Consultation on World Evangelization in South Africa this July. “We need international prayer support for GCOWE ’97,” writes Bennie Mostert, a prayer rep. for the conference. “Intercessory networks globally are encouraged to join in praying for GCOWE ’97. 189 Strategic Intercessors are needed for the conference that will be held in Pretoria, South Africa. There will be 9 consultations with 21 strategic intercessors praying at each consultation during the 5 days of the consultation. International intercessors are welcome and needed. All intercessors have to register and will have to pay the full conference fee. People like Kjell Sjoberg, Cindy Jacobs and Roger Mitchell will lead the groups of strategic intercessors. For more info on registration as strategic intercessor, contact Bennie Mostert at nupsaatglobaldotcodotza or fax to +27-12-3332169. Registrations must be in before end of April 1997. ANYBODY KNOW OF A CANADIAN BULK MAILER?
Larry Mori 104457dot1527atcompuservedotcom would like to know, for sending out mission news to Canadians the old fashioned “hard copy” way. Note that USA bulk mailers need not respond.

FROM THE HOME OFFICE . . . THE WEEKLY “DID YOU KNOW”???
OThis week’s imponderable . . . Did you know that a ‘jiffy’ is an actual unit of time for 1/100th of a second? Gives new meaning to telling someone you’ll be back “in a jiffy.” Whoosh. :-)

THIS WEEK, PRAY FOR PARSIS
One contributor wrote that this week, the world over, Parsees will be gathering from early morning to sunset “in rituals at their fire temples, at rivers and seas, and at places of nature.” These special rituals end on March 20th . . . so this Brigada participant asked us to pray for Parsees. To get the whole story, send email to hubatxcdotorg with only the words,
get brigada parsees

in the text of the email message.

HALFWAY TO VICTORY!
It was the 25th of August, 1995. Brigada Today and the whole Brigada family of networks was still a toddler, having launched formally on March 21st about 5 months earlier. The item was titled, “FROM THE ‘LET’S GET SERIOUS ABOUT VISION’ DEPARTMENT.” The text went like this: “Ya know, I always thought that if a person was highly technical, highly skilled, highly process oriented, then they would probably be pretty scared about bulging growth. Not so with Jonathan Marsden, who manages the technical end of CrossConnect and, as such, helps with Brigada technical projects. When I asked him this past week about how he felt about Brigada growing past the 800 mark, I was surprised to hear him say he wasn’t satisfied. ‘I won’t be happy until we have 10,000 people on board, with hundreds of conferences about least reached people groups and cities all over the world.’ Wow. When I grow up, I want to be like that. :-)”

Jonathan still works hand-in-hand with us, making sure Brigada email conferences have the very best chances of succeeding technically. His wish came one step closer to fulfillment this past week, when participation in Brigada’s “top level” conference (the one that sent you this edition of Brigada Today) soared above the 5000-mark.

————————————–

OR ARE WE HALFWAY AFTER ALL?
So while in the middle of all this gushing :-) and remembering . . . the question rose in my mind . . . “How has the original dream changed, if at all?” Well the original concept was to try to organize a kind of “totem pole” around which those with a love for lost peoples and common interests in reaching them could gather. Today we have roughly 70 conferences . . . 11 of which center on some unreached people group or family of groups. Brother. We’ve been in business for two years now . . . and, . . . sure we have lots of people involved (5000, thank you Lord!) But to have only 11 conferences on least reached peoples… (along with lots of others about other things) . . . well, . . . I’m not sure we’re accomplishing our vision together. Brigada was designed to allow a researcher to enter an imaginary “entryway” or “front door/foyer” area and then quickly ascertain what level of interest or commitment already existed toward those concerned about reaching out to a particular group. The fact that we have only addressed 11 of several hundred or even thousand groups is, frankly, rather humiliating. It’s great that we have 5000 people… but what about the TASK!?

————————————–

WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE
So… where do we go from here? I wish we could recover some of that initial vision. Here’s one way to make it happen. I could go ahead and spawn all 1739 conferences for the Joshua Project 2000 List of Unreached Peoples. [Pick yourself up off the floor, Jonathan. :-) ] Once someone became interested in managing a conference for a particular group, he or she would send a message to that conference saying, “I’ll volunteer as moderator for the conference on such-and-such-a-people.”

————————————–

HOW DO WE PAY FOR ALL THESE CONFERENCES?
Minor glitch: That person would need to acquire an xc.org address to get the authority to moderate . . . something that now costs about $52/year. (Hey — MAFxc has to pay for this equipment and the staffing to run it some way! I don’t work for them . . . but they sure earn their keep with the Brigada conferences that we already have!) Secondly, that person would need to commit to sending at least one message per week for a minimum of one year. That one message would give some kind of prayer pointer, request, reminder, or update on that particular unreached people. (receiving Brigada Today could be the reminder) Finally, that moderator would need a bit of time. Time to handle subscriber questions, and an occasional problem with a subscriber who has changed email addresses without unsubscribing first. (We’ll call those people, “Bounce-a-grammers”, since they end up causing the notorious “bounce-a-grams” back to a conference moderator . . . “this guy no longer exists” type messages.) And all these 1739 conferences would be created as “open” to subscribers (so individual subscribers wouldn’t have to be screened) but “modified” as to messages (meaning that individual messages sent to the conference would bounce to the moderator, rather than go to the conference; that’s the only way the conference could be ‘secure’ in “creative access” countries).

————————————–

HELP WANTED: MODERATORS NEEDED TODAY!
Anyway – here’s the deal. Will we be able to find 1739 conference moderators who will chunk down $52/year each and “stand in the gap” as a volunteer to moderate a conference? I’m not sure anyone knows the answer to that question right now. But we’re about to find out. These people should probably not be on-site workers (because they are often in sensitive situations in restricted access . . . or creative access . . . countries), nor should they be people who find it hard to answer the email they already receive. (They need to either have the time . . . or be able to manage their time well!) These 1739 moderators won’t be paid (at least on this planet), nor will they probably become very famous. (But they probably will be in the center of what’s known about outreach to a particular people group.) What they will get a chance to see is the formation of a virtual network, a “task force,” for finishing the task among a particular group.

Should these moderators be experts on that group? Not necessarily. They do need to possess a vision for reaching them though.

————————————–

HOW DO YOU GET STARTED WITH THE VISION?
What do you do if you’re willing to be one of those moderators… or if you know one??? Send a message to hubatxcdotorg with only these words in the message text:
get brigada moderator-application

You’ll receive information on how to proceed. It will arrive in your in-box in moments. Full information will be contained in that message. You need not write any person until you’ve read that file. And thanks for your partnership!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PRAY FOR ALBANIA!
Just when we thought Albania was open to the gospel, all this unrest kicks up all kinds of dust . . . and now all kinds of missionaries are leaving! The Southern Baptist Prayer Line is accessible in the USA at 1-800-395-pray and it, along with tons of other sources, asks that we pray fervently that this conflict will cease. Please bow your heads and join in…. “Lord, we don’t understand the economic difficulties being experienced now by tens of thousands of people who have lost so much. But please help them to resolve their difficulties in a non-violent manner so your messengers there can resume their work. Their families have been jerked out of school and life as they know it… and the unrest is hurting Albanians and expatriates alike. Please bring peace… and Peace that passes all understanding to Albania. Thank you Lord. Amen.”

————————————–

NEED FREE EMAIL?
Don’t forget about Juno! ONLY FOR THE USA, send your mailing address to signupatjunodotcom to get more info. Or check out their web site at http://www.juno.com/. You can also call 1-800-799-JUNO (tell them “Extension F” and when they ask for your “personal response code”, tell them this was a referral). Warning: No web browsing capability provided.

HEADED TO CENTRAL ASIA?
Here’s an urgent need for a traveler from the ‘States, preferably from the Colorado Springs area, to carry air tickets to “Bishkek or AA.” I have a hunch that if you could even get these tickets to anywhere in Kyrgystan or Kazakstan you’d be loved for the rest of your life. If you can help, write 76171dot1463atCompuServedotcom and copy Debbieatad2000dotorg at the AD2000 & Beyond Int’l Office. Thanks!

————————————–

WANT FREE FAXING???
Then you need to send a message to tpccoveratinfodottpcdotint and look at the list of places where you can pull it off. I guess contents of the message are ignored. Also write to tpcfaqatinfodottpcdotint for the frequently asked question file. Looks like quite a successful experiment. Not always successful, apparently, but hey… how can you complain if it’s free!?! :-) This would work from anywhere in the world to anywhere else in the world (so long as there’s coverage in that area). Cool.

————————————–

NAMES NOT INCLUDED
So… by popular request . . . we’ll probably start trying to get in the habit of not including names for those who make contributions to Brigada Today. Too many folks wanting to anonymous out there. :-) So… for those who occasionally send in reports or requests… make sure you tell us if you’d like your name to be included! :-) And thanks, _____ ______, for bringing that to our attention! :-)

GLOBAL GLIMPSE
God has cared for the Saluan people in Indonesia from the ancient days. One ancient Saluan story recounts how the One-Who-Formed-Our-Fingers had made a beautiful place and told the man and the woman that they must not eat the fruit of one tree. A snake came and enticed the man to try the fruit. When The One-Who-Formed-Our-Fingers returned, he knew right away what had happened. He chased the man away from the beautiful place and said, “From now on … the sweat will drip off your jaw… because you will have to work to get food.” Another ancient Saluan story told of a flood that covered the mountains. These stories provided an excellent starting point for evangelism.

FUN FACTS . . . TO KNOW AND TELL
What a disappointment this week… when I learned that Sherlock Holmes never said “Elementary, my dear Watson.” Woe is me. :-)

WORLD BOOK GETS INTO THE ACT
Wouldn’t you know it! Right when I make a mistake and refer to World Book when I meant to say Encyclopaedia Britannica, World Book jumps in with their offer!!! :-)In the USA, call 1-800-426-7235, ext.5209, or from anywhere in the world, look at http://www.pc.ibm.com/multimedia. Two CD-ROMS for $59.95. Actually, that’s not a bad price!!! Plus, they’re giving a $20 rebate to anyone who already owns a competitor’s multimedia encyclopedia . . . or, I presume, encyclopaedia! :-)This deluxe edition has all of the text from the 22 volume print version, plus a complete atlas and 225,000 word dictionary, and a 30 day money-back guarantee. Thanks for the tip, ____ ___ ! :-)

MORE MISSION OPPORTUNITIES
This just came in from Hope For Europe Online. “Thanks to Kerstin Hack (AIMS), Jeff Fountain (YWAM) and others we have listings of several mission opportunities beginning now throughout 1997. It’s called “An A-Z of Short-Term Mission Trips”. Because of its size, we have broken it down into 3 separate files. It is sorted by country, alphabetically, so
file 1 = Albania to England
file 2 = France to Romania
file 3 = Russia to Vietnam.

To receive these, just send an email to HUBatXCdotOrg and in your message body, write only the following:
get hfe-online goye1.txt
get hfe-online goye2.txt
get hfe-online goye3.txt
end

The HUB computer will send these (approx. 5 A4 pages each) right to your in-basket. There are over 75 countries listed and several missions organizations to get you or people in your church started …

————————————–

… AND PEOPLE GROUP PROFILES
Another thanks to Kerstin Hack (AIMS, Germany) who has compiled many people profiles. There are long, comprehensive profiles in either English, German, French or Dutch as well as shorter (one or two page) condensed profiles. As this was also a huge file, we have broken it into two on HUBatXCdotOrg; the first is a list of the long profiles, the second is the list of short profiles available from the AIMS office in Berlin [for a very inexpensive price – probably barely covers the costs of copying]. Anyone regardless if they are “subscribed” or not can “get” these lists of profiles, just write to HUBatXCdotorg with the message body reading:
get german-mission-mobilisers profile1.txt
get german-mission-mobilisers profile2.txt
end

profile1.txt is 16 A4 pages or about 35 kilobytes, profile2.txt is half that, representing groups from all Continents. Thanks much, Ron!!!

ARE YOU WILLING TO SELL NOTEBOOK COMPUTERS TO BRIGADA PARTICIPANTS?
We’re searching for vendors who will list their notebook computers at value prices for Brigada subscribers. Don’t cheat yourselves… (we want you to stay in business! :-)) but please do give Brigada participants the very best bargains you can. Please send a summary of your price list (Brand names and models/primary specs only) to DLucasatTeamExpansiondotorg with the subject line “LAPTOPS”. (Your list won’t be processed correctly unless it says LAPTOPS in the subject line.) Help us get the word out. Send this message to a computer-dealer friend! Thanks! The list will be made available to all next week . . . so please respond by next Thurs. An acknowledgement of receipt will be returned automatically – but not a very personalized one. :-)

WEB-WATCH
Check out http://www.vocc.com if you’re into gizmos. This site tells you how to have one toll-free 800/888 number that is your: home, office, fax, pager, cell phone, & it is also your E-mail notification. Guess this is good only in the USA. Also, Patrick Johnstone [did you hear how it got silent all of a sudden??? ! :-) ] saw our recent note about finding world political readers (yes . . . he does read Brigada Today, thank you Patrick!) . . . and urged us to look at the CIA List of Govt. leaders http://www.odci.gov/cia/publications/95fact/index.html, as well as http://www.odci.gov/cia/publications/chiefs/chiefs-toc-vi w.html> and also http://www.geocities.com/athens/1058/rulers.html and even http://www.lg.ehu.es/~ziaorarr/00index.htm. Now we know what Patrick does in his spare time! :-)

WE NEED TRAVEL AGENTS!
That Brigada-travel-bids thing has gone bizerk! Yikes! We could easily use 100 more travel agents there. It’s been the busiest Brigada conference on line for the past 8 weeks running!!!! Help! If you know of any travel agents . . . especially those willing to write tickets for Europe or from Europe, please please have them send email to hubatxcdotorg with only this text in the message:
Subscribe brigada-travel-bids

This is an idea that has really caught on… but it’s understaffed at the moment. If you sent a request and didn’t get a response, call your favorite travel agent and ask him or her to get online.
