“ONE LIBRARY TO GO, PLEASE”
Gone are the days of shipping barrels and barrels of books to the field for your favorite missionary! I just got my copy of Sky Media’s new Bible study CD (JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT YOU’D NEVER FIND A 180-LESSON SURVEY OF THE BIBLE). What a hoot! 12 hours of audio, thousands of lesson graphics, and lots more! And guess what! No barrel! All you need is one of those little CD pouches! :-) And by the way, write dhp@rbc.org for more info, not as we mentioned last week. They received dozens of responses within 2 days of last week’s mailing, so they’ve now set up full email marketing! Also check out http://www.dhp.org for their web page, or just call them at 800-653-8333 if you’re in the USA (or if you’ve downloaded “Net2Phone” described earlier in Brigada Today; then you can call that toll-free number from anywhere in the world!). And if you’re into old-fashioned 1900s technology :-) write them at
Discovery House Publishers
PO Box 3566
Grand Rapids, MI 49501-3566.

Do you have other favorite CDs that you would recommend for your new missionary’s “library to go?” If so, email the title, order information, and a brief paragraph description to DLucas@TeamExpansion.org with the subject line reading:
LIBRARY TO GO
(Only items with those exact words in the subject line will be included in a new source file in the Brigada file archive. Let’s put together a list of top notch CD-ROM resources for on-site workers! Don’t forget to include price and source!

SO WHERE WILL ALL THE ON-SITE WORKERS COME FROM?
We’re just now starting to see the mobilizers come forward. That’s good. But one reader wrote this past week to ask where the on-site workers will come from. His suggestion? Maybe consider asking a few of the intercessors to become on-site workers. That’s something akin to sending some of our national guard troops to pad the ranks of the enlisted soldiers at the front lines (something that actually happened here in the USA during the Gulf War). So intercessors… are you willing to pray about you going if God wants that too?

NOW – A TRAINING PROGRAM FOR THOSE WHO WORK WITH INTERNATIONALS
The Association of Christians Ministering to Internationals seeks to encourage, strengthen, and network with Christians ministering to internationals temporarily residing in North America. Now you can take in their annual training conference June 6-9 at Wheaton College. For more information, contact ACMI@JUNO.COM.

THE ADOPTION REPORT IS IN
Months ago, “Starr” asked Brigada-Peoples participants for help with ideas for a church service where our church would formally adopt an unreached people group. Many responded. Now get the written follow-up report and share the ideas one church used for leading up to the adoption, the service itself, and ideas for follow-up within the church. To grab it, send an email to hub@xc.org with only this line in the text of the message:
get brigada adoption

ALTERNATIVE TO BOARDING SCHOOL – SEND YOUR MK TO SCHOOL ON THE NET
Just when you thought your kids were destined to head out to boarding school, along comes CyberHigh! Based in Edmonton, Canada, this Christian on-line school currently offers grades 7-9 and yearns to expand! Write brett@cyberhigh.org and plug your student into the net for schooling!

STAMP OUT MISSIONS
Now I’ve heard everything. Here’s a group of retired missionaries who reportedly collect precious stamps, sell them, then give 100% of the income to support missionaries! To get started, contact Derek Porter, 1127 Ghana St., Sebring FL 33872. Apparently, stamps should be trimmed with no less than 1/8th of an inch of envelope around the stamp. The US Director of SIM can reportedly vouch for the fact that this is a legitimate program. It’s headed by Derek and Marguerite Porter, who served for more than 40 years with the Yorubas in Nigeria. Give it a whirl and let us know how it works!

NEED TO TYPE IN ANOTHER LANGUAGE?
Try Gamma Unitype. It lets you type hundreds of different languages in Windows apps. Check out the language list at http://www.gammapro.com. But then, instead of requesting it from Gamma, order it from karen@logos.com if you’re outside the USA and sales@logos.com if within the USA. This gives you a 57% discount! You can also call 800-875-6467 or 360-679-6575 or FAX 360-675-8169.

GLOBAL GLIMPSE ON THE GLOBAL MARCH
Yesterday, May 17th, marked this year’s annual Global March for Jesus. Last year on May 25th up to 12 million people from 170 nations marched in a massive series of coordinated street marches over that 24 hour period. An estimated 17,000 Christians marched in London alone, taking part in what could be the world’s biggest-ever street event. Over 100 nations had plans for praise marching or prayerwalking, with significant growth in the Americas and Asia. The African country, Chad, expected 10,000 marchers in 5 towns, followed by a seminar for young adults underlining the importance of mission among unreached peoples.

BRIGADA HOY ANYONE?
Anybody out there want to partner with us to create a Brigada Today in Spanish? This past week we received this inquiry… “Querido hermano: Con la alegria que implica encontrarnos por este medio, desearía preguntarte si existe la posibilidad de recibir Brigada en español. Dios te bendiga en tan precioso ministerio para la extension de su reino. Con aprecio en Cristo, Juan”

I guess the Spanish version would be distributed on a totally different “channel,” with a few days delay built in. Someone with a big heart for the Spanish-speaking world would need to translate the items into Spanish and perhaps add a couple of items exclusively for Latins. Commitment could be for one year at a time. An xc.org address would be required ($52/year, if the individual didn’t already have it). The salary isn’t the greatest but the benefit are out of this world! :-) Any takers?

DON’T FORGET GLOBAL LINK
No doubt about it… I believe Global Link (NEW VIDEO PROMISES TO CHARGE UP YOUR MISSIONS PROGRAM) fills a critical niche by providing accurate information about the world in a manner appropriate for today’s youth and younger adult (ages 13-30+). It approaches the world according to two different matrix models. In one approach, you can see each major world religion, one at a time (in fact, one could break the 45-minute video up into smaller segments, if one needed to present it in smaller bites). But at the same time, this hi-tech, contemporary video presents major ideas and major blocks one at a time too. And in a much-needed global view, it also examines missions opportunities in areas like the Americas, which have lost some attention in the past few years’ mobilization toward other locations on the globe. The over all riding theme is that we have an incredible worldwide need and an incredible global opportunity… and we are the link from the Lord to the lost.

Finally, I believe viewers will find Global Link a refreshing change! Too many 45-minute missions videos have been “talking heads” and Global Link is anything but that! Filmed in the “generation X mode” (hand-held camera that doesn’t mind hand-held movement, extreme close-ups even when it cuts off part of the subject, lots of special effects (add emphasis on the word “lots” :-)) including the effect that skips frames but keeps audio in sync with the speaker’s original words, etc., etc., etc.), this film will hold the attention of just about any group.

My only fear is that, at first glance, Americans will think they’re watching a Pepsi commercial! :-) For more info., contact WorldChristian News & Books, who is marketing the video for Proclamedia – wcn@xc.org. A bulk discount is available for those who would like to distribute the video themselves.

NEVER A GUARANTEE FOR SHIPPING TO UKRAINE
One reader wrote to inform us that there never is a guarantee for shipping to / from Ukraine (SHIPPING TO UKRAINE). Apparently he was not having a good experience with LVIV Express Services, Inc. So… like anything in life… let the buyer beware. :-)

————————————–

OKAY – SO I WAS OFF A BIT
:-) At least one buyer (from Czech Republic) found music prices in “For Missionaries Only” slightly higher than that quoted in COOL TOOLS two weeks ago. But still… cassettes at $4.75 and CD’s at about $8.75 are still good deals. I guess if anyone is going to check up on our info. and send in corrections, it should be a reader from the official Czech Republic. :-)

GET READY FOR “CITY-TALK”
“CityTalk:the language of urban ministry” http://www.simeon.org/citytalk.html will be the focus of the Simeon Institute’s project roundtable at Westminster College, Cambridge, England, August 10-15, 1997. Michael Mata will be the key resource person for a team producing a glossary of urban ministry terms. To join the on-line conference send
subscribe city-talk
to hub@xc.org .

CAN’T PUT YOUR FINGERS ON KURDISH-BAHDINI SCRIPTURE CASSETTES?
Look no farther. asm-ca@xc.org can send you Matthew, John, or Acts for $7.50 each (2 cassette sets). And mention Brigada and they’ll arrange a healthy discount for bulk orders. :-) If you’re into using up the Amazon rain forest, send paper mail to
Audio Scripture Ministries
PO Box 460634.
Escondido CA 92046-0634

or — if you like to talk — call (760) 745-8105. You can also fax them at (760) 745-8150. Nice labels. Nice insert cards, too. You can even get Luke in Kurdish-Sorani, if you please. The story of how this recording came to completion is quite a tale of God being in control (see below for another example). How was Harvey Hoekstra to know that Bob Blinco and his family would move into the “house next door” — and the project was born. Way to go, guys!!! Way to go God!

————————————–

“GOD IS IN CONTROL”
Who sings that song, anyway? You know. The one making the contemporary Christian music circuits? Kathy Tracoli? Anyway, whoever it is that’s singing, He [God] really is. She [the singer] was right. I should have listened to her all along. Last Friday, my wife, Penny, (have I told you how much I love my wife. Penny?) headed to Louisville for a Mother-Daughter Banquet at her home church. Around mid-day, I received a call from a friend up in Indiana who had gotten hold of 3 Promise-Keeper tickets (valued at $60 each!) and basically, he wanted to see them put to good use! We arranged to meet him at the stadium that night. The boys were excited to try out Promise-Keepers for the first time! (I would probably never have been able to afford to take them under normal circumstances — and I figured that if I ditched my annual “watch-the-kids-during-the-banquet” thing, I wouldn’t have been a very good husband/dad anyway. :-))

But when we arrived at the stadium, the friend from Indiana didn’t show — delayed in traffic, we presumed. After waiting nearly an hour with some pretty disappointed boys, we asked a fellow selling “leftover” tickets out on the plaza, “So… I’m sure we couldn’t ever afford tickets, . . . but how much are they?” “$20,” came the response. Yikes. $60 still seemed pretty much out of reach. We thanked the gentleman, then turned to keep brainstorming. As we did, he called us back and said he hated to see us wander around like that. It was starting to sprinkle, and I think he felt sorry for the boys. (45,000 men were trying to crowd through that plaza!) He took three tickets out of his bag and said, “Here, take these.”

I couldn’t believe it. I asked him where to send a ‘thank you’ and he told me not to worry about it, but proceeded to ask where we were from. We told him about working with a mission organization called Team Expansion and he replied, “Well then — you would know our church — the Northeast Christian Church of Louisville!” Team Expansion opened up a PACE Project in Albania last year — and Ron, the church’s Administrator, had been the one to show us the kindness! Out of 45,000 men, God had matched us up with a representative from a partner church we hadn’t met yet! It was the first time we had met… but he knew all about his church’s project, of course.

Later that chilly evening, as the boys and I huddled under a sleeping bag in Cynergy Stadium, listening to a speaker from India, Christopher leaned over and said, “Dad, this really is great. Thanks for bringing us.” I replied, “God wanted us here, boys!” Caleb said later, “God just thinks in His head, and it happens!” Amen. Join us as we give thanks to God for the way He watches over each of our families, working out our futures while we step through the present!
