AD2000 & BEYOND RELEASES NEW ADOPT-A-PEOPLE VIDEO
How long have you been waiting for a video that shares case studies of real live “adopt-a-people” projects from around North America, complete with “how-to” suggestions and “lessons learned” examples???? Wait no longer. AD2000 has teamed up with Caleb Project to produce Ordinary People, Extraordinary Love, available today for $12 (plus shipping and handling). This fast-moving series of case studies and mini-interviews gives you all the examples for which you’ve been waiting. You’ll see churches just like yours, both large and small, which have successfully adopted unreached peoples. Yes, it’s slanted toward churches sending short-term teams and yes, it does seem to be slanted toward sending prayer journeys as a key part of the strategy for reaching the unreached, but hey, what else would you expect from the gal who formerly was Coordinator of the JP2000 Project office at AD2000!!! (Mary Ann Stone had a key role in putting the video together.) Actually, short-term trips are eventually tied in very well with the development of a long-term strategy for trained on-site teams. While you’re at it, check out the video on the Maratha people, originally produced by Kingdom Building Ministries, also $12, 12 minutes long. The two would make a great “one-two punch” — the big picture and a specific example. In this case, AD2000 and Caleb Project have targeted a North American audience, but others from around the world will find it interesting, as well. This one’s a keeper, gang. You’ll be able to use it at your missions fair, in your planning meetings, and in your mobilization workshops. Lots of short interviews… lots of practical info… and lots of motivational examples. This one could be titled, “So you’re thinking about adopting an unreached people, eh?” :-)

WORK WITH THE WORD IN AFGHANISTAN
N.R. Word nrword@hotmail.com is a Christian author who is hunting for information on Afganistan (especially the poorer area of Kabul). He is also interested in what the roles of children, older men, and women are. If you have an interest there, why not at least write him to ask for an abstract of his work when it’s complete. If you are working with someone there, write him but remember to always guard the identities and locations of those who are in creative-access countries for Christian reasons.

GLOBAL GLIMPSE FROM THE GLOBAL GAMES
world globe More than 350 Christian volunteers and full-time ministers are ready for work at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan. The teams will work in coffee houses set up for evangelism, in hotel information booths, as garbage collectors, as chaplains, and in singing and drama performances in the marketplace. Christians are to be the only religious group represented by chaplains in Nagano, a city with one of the largest Buddhist temples in the world. Those involved include missionaries from the Southern Baptists, Campus Crusade for Christ, Athletes in Action, International Bible Society, InterVarsity, Youth With a Mission and the American Bible Society. 1,500 ‘Jesus’ videos in multiple languages are ready for athletes and officials in their own languages.

SEND YOUR TESOL TRAINING IDEAS & RESOURCES FOR COMPILATION
Mary Burton acts@lcc.net wrote to ask if we had information on TESOL resources. Well anytime anyone asks such a question, our standard answer is, “Want to compile one?” :-) So give her everything ya got! :-) She’ll compile it and we’ll post it here later for all to download. She’s especially interested in resources designed for those who desire to reach out to the nations of the world at their doorstep. “There are some agencies I know of but they require leaving your home, job, etc. and then signing up with them to go overseas,” Mary wrote. “We live in a city where the hispanic, non-english speaking population is very high. Two weeks ago, we led 54 non-english speaking South Americans to the Lord with an interpreter. But using TESOL, we can go back into the area and offer them practical help and reach out to others with the gospel.” Either way, she’ll compile every resource you’ve got. Be sure to write her directly… no need to copy us here at Brigada. :-) She’ll send us the finished product. (We always seem to get blitzed with “cc:” emails on these projects. :-) )

Now here’s a site for sore eyes!!! At http://www.moody.edu/sfs you can learn about “Sermons from Science,” Moody’s science films that are translated into 65 million languages, that can address a high-level intelligent audience or amaze a lay level one, that can be used to sensitize a non-Christian audience or strengthen the faith of a believing one! A bunch of us used these in a “Christian Friendship Festival” in the former Soviet Union in 1991 and out of those sessions came our first believers in a new church that has now reached a regular weekend worship attendance of 650 people! Check ’em out! . . . and while you’re there, check out Moody’s Founder’s Week Bible Conference at http://www.moody.edu where you’ll hear streaming audio live from the likes of speakers like George Verwer, International Coordinator, Operation Mobilization.
