LAST WEEK’S ITEM ON “JOSHUA HARVEST” CAUSES A STIR
lighting the way Well I’ve got good news and bad news regarding last week’s item on “Joshua Harvest: All Peoples, All Persons” (“FROM THE ‘WORD ON THE STREET’ DEPARTMENT… THE LATEST ON AD2000”). The good news is that evidently Brigada Today is being read by lots of missions leaders who in turn wrote lots of other missions leaders and apparently asked quite a number of questions about the item. The bad news is, the “word on the street” might have taken us slightly down the wrong road. Here’s the deal: Apparently, there is a plan entitled, “Joshua Harvest: All Peoples, All Persons” that is “in the works,” being considered by AD2000 & Beyond leadership. However, it is apparently not totally approved at this point (though many have voiced strong support for it). But evidently our biggest error last week was our indication that AD2000’s International Office (IO) would, in this case, not be shutting down. Quite the contrary, apparently the plan is for the IO to not be leading the movement at that point. Now don’t ask me how that’s going to play out — because I’m not exactly sure (e.g., how can we have international events without an international coordinating office?) — but the bottom line is that the IO is shutting down as previously announced, immediately after wrap-up of the final consultation, which is occurring at the end of the year 2000. (For more information about this consultation, see the next item.) Now… how can we be sure that this is not just a rumor? Because this time, we received messages directly from Luis Bush himself, who happened to be hearing about the Brigada Today item all the way over in Israel, where he was conducting meetings to plan a major AD2000 event! He wrote us, some 24 hours after the item went out last week, “Greetings from the Holy Land! The meetings of the International Coordinating Committee regarding Celebrate Messiah 2000 have just come to a close. In the course of these days together, as we gazed out the balcony of the room we were meeting at with the Dome of the Rock and Jerusalem in plain view we experienced the presence of God in a most unusual way….” Luis added elsewhere, “…The International Office is planning to close down shortly after the event here [in Jerusalem]. The termination of the non-profit organization AD2000 [& Beyond] Movement Inc is planned and all staff will be out of a job. A close down plan was already presented to the US Support Committee in our last meeting and approved.” So… looks like we’ve got to look for a job for Luis after all! :-)

LUIS BUSH INVITES BRIGADA AUDIENCE TO AD2000 & BEYOND CONSULTATION
Been looking for the perfect time to visit Jerusalem? Always wanted to take that trip to the Holy Land but never had a good enough reason? Well now you do. This past week, as a part of the series of emails clarifying the misunderstanding about last week’s item (see above), Luis, in the process, invited the entire Brigada family to come to Jerusalem!!! :-) Now maybe you think I’m joking . . . but if you have any doubts, retrieve the email message he sent. Read it word-for-word in its entirety.
I’ll summarize here.. but you really need to get the whole thing if you’re interested. Basically, Celebrate Messiah 2000 is a colossal conference to cap off a decade of AD2000 & Beyond activities. Finite reporting will be available on progress in “finishing the Task,” and you can be sure there will be plenty of celebrating for what God has done in the 10/40 Window and beyond. If you’re interested in attending, get the CM2000 file because Luis says it much better than I can — and request an introductory brochure/invitation by writing infoatAD2000dotorg. Keep in mind that this CM2000 itself is still a draft, yet to be voted on in May by core leaders of the AD2000 & Beyond leadership. Luis’ exact words were, “Registration has now been completed by 30 countries of the world for participation in the Holy Land event itself. The registration is still open. Please invite anyone interested to e-mail requesting [a] brochure from our office.” So… if you want… Holy Land here you come! :-)

————————————–

WANT MORE INFO. RE: PRAYING FOR THOSE IN THE 10/40 WINDOW?
Try CIN-News, a brand new email conference by the folks at Christian Information network. Subscribe by sending an email message to listprocatgrmidotorg with the message
subscribe cin-news Your Name

in the body of the message. This will automatically add you to the mailing list. Obviously, . . . substitute your own name for the “Your Name” in the instructions above. :-) (Duh…) :-)

————————————–

GET HELP ON PROTOCOL
For those fairly new to Brigada, or those just wanting to recap/review, don’t miss some recent changes made to the protocol file.

It explains good protocol for interacting in the Brigada family of email conference networks. Those with additional suggestions are welcome to submit them to DLucasatTeamExpansiondotorg.

————————————–

SPANISH MISSIONS MOBILIZERS HABLAN
lighting the way Last week’s item, “WHERE HAVE ALL THE SPANISH GONE?” rang a gong in the hearts of several Spanish speaking missions mobilizers. Evidently, there have been several compilations of organizations that send Spanish speakers. Are there any posted on the web? If so, drop me a note… and . . . perdone me por favor. :-)

————————————–

BIRTHDAY CANDLES… JUST 3 WEEKS AWAY
lighting the way Thanks for the ideas in response to last week’s item, “WE’RE NEARLY 3 YEARS OLD!” I particularly liked the one that suggested we mail out pieces of birthday cake to each and every subscriber. (Yeah right! :-)) Although we’re still unsure how to celebrate, the event is fast approaching. March 21st marks 3 years in Brigada business. I wonder if we can reach the 7000 mark (7000 subscriber/participants) by March 21st? Tall order. Would you invite 3 friends to join the Brigada network this week??? Just clip the final item (on how to subscribe) and send it their way.

————————————–

FOR YOUR BROWSER… MOTHER OF ALL BOOKMARK FILE SYSTEMS – FREE!!!
WebWatch Searching for an easy way to load in a bunch of bookmarks into your browser? (bookmarks are the “shortcuts” that let you jump from one web site to the next on the Worldwide Web). This can be a big-time need if you have recently switched over, say, from Netscape to Microsoft Internet Explorer (which seems to be happening more and more these days, by the way). Well now you can get Doug’s “mother of all favorite sites” bookmark files — FOR FREE! Zillions of bookmarks, including missions orgs, mission sites, mission research sites, and travel sites galore. (I’ve got a partner who has been buggin’ me to prepare this for months! Sorry it’s taken me this long, Eric!) Add to that a bundle of news sites, software URLs, computers & technology, and more! Well in the “old days,” it wasn’t as easy as you’d think — to combine the bookmarks in the file you’re already using with a “mother of all bookmark files” from somebody else’s browser. But now there’s a way! Just hop on the web and download “SyncURLs” first. It’s a free program on the Brigada site that lets you merge bookmark files (from either Netscape or Microsoft Internet Explorer! Organizes them in a tree outline, exports to whichever browser you want… or both! Then you can grab Doug’s “mother of all favorite sites” file and combine it with your own in whatever way you want! And in the future, if you ever want to export your file to your buddy’s browser’s format, no problem! So… get it today! . . . for free! Get SyncURLs by pointing your browser to: http://www.teamexpansion.org/tools/syncur.zip When your browser asks you if you want to execute or save, just choose “save” and pick out a suitable folder on your hard drive (don’t forget where you store it!). You’ll need the capability to unzip files. (If you don’t have pkunzip, talk to a computer tech to get it.) This is a 321K file that gives you the executable (courtesy PC Magazine; thanks!). Then grab the “mother of all bookmark files” by pointing your browser to: http://www.teamexpansion.org/tools/bookmarks.htm Once you’re there, use “save as” to save that file on your own hard drive as bookmarks.htm in your Netscape users directory, under your name. If there’s already a file there by that name, don’t overwrite it with the new file. Use SyncURLs to merge the new and the old! Import your own bookmark file over the top and you’re in business! See the help file for instructions — it’s very thorough. We regret that we cannot answer mail asking for tech support for this process. If you need help, see a computer tech in your town or office. (Hey — if we answered help mail all day, we’d never get our own mission work done! :-))

GOD’S CHURCH IS ON THE MOVE
I’m writing this Brigada Today on the plane on the way home from a weekend full of meetings with a church in Calgary that has chosen to adopt a very unreached people group in Central Asia. Wow. blinking1eyes I’m humbled and sobered by their dedication. They’ve picked one of the “hardest” groups to reach . . . and yet they’re undaunted by the task. In the Faith-Promise missions weekend (at which they had invited me to speak), they pledged thousands of dollars per month for missions, including a great start-up seed fund for their new PACE Project (adopting that unreached people group and following a specific plan to plant a church there). If this whole process can now just be replicated a couple of thousand times, with each church taking responsibility for different unreached people groups, I’m confident we’ll see some pretty amazing stuff happen during the coming years!!! May God grant them . . . and you . . . lots of determination and wisdom as you seek to mobilize your church and/or agency to finish the task!

WE’RE NEARLY 3 YEARS OLD!
Three years ago this week, Brigada was just an idea… with some 38 participants in this Brigada Today conference… and only a half dozen or so Brigada conferences in all. Today, 3 years later, Brigada-peoples is one of the most active conferences in the Brigada family, with some 350 participants actively seeking to help connect would-be people-group-adopters together with those who can help them do it more effectively. And over 150 other conferences, including the entire “Brigada-connect-…” group by John Hanna, are regularly providing communication networks for the world of evangelical missions. But the real Brigada-birthday that we celebrate is March 21st, the day in 1995 that the conferences officially “went public.” So… we’re inviting everyone to a big “virtual birthday party!” To be held in just 4 weeks… all over the world… on March 21st! :-) Not sure how we’ll be able to celebrate it. We’re open for ideas! :-) Send your best idea to DLucasatTeamExpansiondotorg. :-)

————————————–

FROM THE “WORD ON THE STREET” DEPARTMENT… THE LATEST ON AD2000
So have you heard the latest on AD2000? We all wondered how in the world the AD2000 office could just ‘close down’ on January 2nd, 2001 anyway. :-) I mean… after all . . . what are we going to do with 20 jobless people? :-) And I can’t think of much of anything more discouraging than seeing Luis Bush with nothing to mobilize! :-) So… here’s the deal… here’s the latest of what we’re hearing. Apparently, the latest leak out of Colorado Springs is that AD2000 will be kicking off a new program called, “Joshua Harvest: All Peoples, All Persons.” Can you believe it? (You think I’m joking. :-) ) This thrust will seek to expand the criteria of the Joshua Project from its current “mongo-tight” restrictions (e.g., greater than 10,000 in pop., less than 2% evangelical, no church of 100 in their midst, etc.) to a much broader definition of [basically any] ethnolinguistic and ethnocultural peoples. The primary focus will remain that of making disciples among the spiritually neediest peoples of the world. A similar approach will be adopted to that of Joshua Project 2000. This will apparently entail coordinated research, a common database, enhancements of existing efforts, and a total commitment to mutual cooperation in all things. The aim would be to establish a life-giving congregation of believers among each of the world’s people groups. So… relax… and breathe again… Luis Bush and company won’t be jobless on Jan. 2nd, 2001! :-) And … barring the 2nd coming… neither will we! :-)

————————————–

GIVERS MINISTRY FOCUSES ON TANGIBLE ITEMS
lighting the way Remember our reference to the Givers Ministry… http://www.giversministry.org which focused on finding needs and meeting them? ” POST YOUR FINANCIAL NEEDS AND HOPE TO FIND A GIVER!” Well… ahem… come to find out they specialize in tangible, non-monetary gifts! :-) Sorry gang. They’ve had zillions of hits (the exact quote was, “We have been overwhelmed…”) from folks wanting to . . . . put them in touch, so to speak, with potential giving targets… and actually what they’re hoping to clarify… or what they’re hoping I can clarify… :-) is that they only give non-financial gifts. :-) But that’s still cool… think about …. automobiles, computers, musical instruments, building materials, food, clothing, medical supplies / equipment, electrical / mechanical items, etc.! Want to email them? Use infoatgiversministrydotorg instead of the address we gave earlier. Sorry about that Joe. Hope you can get your email inbox cleaned out sometime next century! :-)

————————————–

WORD FROM THE ROCK… THE ROSETTA STONE STILL SPEAKS
The Rosetta Stone Language Program continues to develop CD-ROM conversational courses in languages important to missionaries. And guess what… to Brigada participants, Rosetta Stone’s creators will make the CDs available at 1/4 of the price charged to the educational and business markets! Believe it or not, this is the very program selected by NASA for use by the US and Russian astronauts! Languages currently available include Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Dutch, English (for ESL), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai and Vietnamese. Additional languages are being released each month. For ordering info contact Ray Howard at Mission Training Int’l – MInternataoldotcom. In the U.S. you can call us at 800 896-3710. Make sure you tell them you heard about it on Brigada and they’ll make the CDs available at 25% of the list price. (Actually, you do have to be using them for missions purposes… so if we have any astronauts reading this item, just dream on! :-))

————————————–

INSURANCE PROVIDERS FOR MISSIONARIES
If you’re needing a great medically insurance policy, at least give these sources a chance. They’ve listed with Brigada via Sara and are ready to serve! Thanks to Sara and Brad for their help compiling this list!

————————————–

WEB EVANGELISM SITES UNITE!
Do you know about a site seeking to provide a restricted access (or, to put it another way, “creative access”) country with the Bible in the local language? … or maybe a special site to present the gospel to a specific group of people in a culturally appropriate manner? If so, Dale FISHVILLEataoldotcom would like to know! Dale will compile the results, return them, at which time we’ll make them available to everyone here on Brigada via one of those “get” files. So. . . whether you’ve developed a site like the ones described above… or just seen one… send them to Dale. Don’t forget to provide the full web address, beginning with “http://” please. Thanks!

————————————–

WHERE HAVE ALL THE SPANISH GONE?
Dan’s a missions mobilizer… in Latin America! :-) Honest. Great idea. So he’s trying to find out which agencies and orgs. try to send Spanish-speakers to China (and other creative access countries) as a means of sharing Christ there. So if you’ve heard about a team from Venezuela working in Algeria, Dan would like to know! Note that he’s not looking for the names of those who have gone (which would be a security risk), but rather, the agencies which seek to send them or enable them to go. Send your best ideas to Dan at djohnsonatcdotnetdotgt and he’ll compile the results for us here. We might just have a copy of the first ever compilation of mission sending agencies for Spanish-speakers!

————————————–

FASTING AND PRAYER FOR NORTH KOREA
Apparently, Jonathan Sim of the World Vision Korea desk has called for a day of fasting and prayer for North Korea on the 27th of February. That’s this week! We’re passing along the news, even though we have few details. Reportedly, World Vision, Campus Crusade and Youth With A Mission are all participating. If you’d like more information, you could try asking Bryan Bishop at YWAMatXCdotOrg. If he doesn’t have more information, he’ll at least try to locate someone who does. No need to write Brigada — this is all we know.

————————————–

HOW TO FIND “THE SCORE” ON JP2000 UNREACHED PEOPLES
Dan Scribner wrote this past week from the AD2000 & Beyond International Office to clarify ways and means of finding out more about the “score” on reaching Joshua Project unreached peoples. He wrote, “You could download the file at ftp://ftp.ad2000.org/pub/ad2000/jpldbf.zip or check the index at http://www.ad2000.org/peoples/index.htm to find out which of the 1739 Joshua Project People groups were not “claimed” as of this past July. …The Joshua Project list is being updated daily and a fresh copy is available at the sites mentioned above. There have probably been over 500 major and minor corrections in JPL.DBF since July 1997. There is a new field in JPL.DBF called UNTARGETED which replaces NOCOMT172. NOCOMT172 is still in the database so we can identify the 172, but that is no longer the focus. At the moment the AD2000 WWW site is still showing mini-profiles for only the 1739 original Joshua Project peoples…, but the JPLDBF.ZIP file has all the peoples that have ever been considered for the Joshua Project list (original 1739 list, updated / current list, peoples not matching the criteria, etc.)” Thanks Dan! We appreciate your ministry at the “IO”!!!

————————————–

DO BRIGADA READERS RESPOND?
You bet they do! For example, this past week we received a thank you note, “Thank you for including us on this week’s Brigada [Today]. We received 40 hits within 24 hours. We have made many good contacts that should serve the missionary community. Thanks again.”

————————————–

ONLINE SCHOOL ADVANCING
books and pen If you’ve been following the progress of that new “online school,” you’ve probably been pretty busy! Brett Bowers brettatcyberhighdotorg wrote this past week to update us on CyberHigh/NorthStar Academy and the plans sound great. Check ’em out at http://www.northstar-academy.org or write Brett directly. What a great option to add to home schooling as an alternative to boarding schools for those working in remote areas!

BERMUDA TRIANGLE, MAFxc STYLE!
MAFxc logo If you subscribed to a MAFxc email conference (MAFxc hosts all Brigada conferences) during the dates Feb. 14-18, odds are, your new subscription was lost and you’ll have to subscribe again. Apparently, on Feb. 18th, MAFxc experienced a big-time crash which forced them to use the most recent backup they had (from 4 days earlier). At the same time, MAFxc has installed a new server and new www software that will more than triple the speed of their outputs. Hang in there, MAFxc!

PRINTED RESOURCES IN 350 LANGUAGES JUST AN E-MAIL AWAY!
letter and ligntening bolt American Scripture Gift Mission has booklets and tracts in over 350 languages that are great for ethnic church planting and multi-lingual ministry in the US as well as overseas. These publications are attractive compilations of verses on relevant themes. Most are evangelistic, like “Savior of the World” and “God’s Plan for Man.” Others are pastoral (but include gospel passages), like “Living Together God’s Way” and “Daily Strength.” SGM Intl has been providing such resources since 1888. Tell them the languages you need and they’ll tell you what’s available. Include your snail mail address for English samples. Write them at SGMUSatJunodotcom.

AD2000 & BEYOND WANTS YOU!
The AD2000 & Beyond Movement is in the process of conducting a survey to update the status of work among Joshua Project 2000 peoples. The last survey (1996) brought in 25,000 pieces of information from over 800 agencies in at least 80 countries. This data is used globally for mobilization, networking and avoidance of duplication. The current survey will assess the status of church planting efforts as well as the existence of indigenous churches among Joshua Project 2000 peoples. The survey will be sent automatically to those who received the initial mailing. If you or someone you know did not receive the earlier survey, but would like to respond now, please send your name, agency and mailing address to the AD2000 and Beyond Movement infoatad2000dotorg. For more information regarding the motivation for completing the survey, use and distribution of the collected data, and security guidelines used when sharing data; just email infoatad2000dotorg with a message that says, “JP2000 Survey Information.”

————————————–

SCUBA ANYONE?
Interested in helping get literature into certain restricted access countries? If so, Frontline Evangelism would like to know! For example, they’re presently looking for individuals with sailing or scuba experience and equipment. Apparently this will be the “purpose” of the short-term trip … with a Christian perspective, if you know what I mean. If you’re interested, contact dbgatixdotnetcomdotcom.

————————————–

HEADED TO THE WORLD CUP? START PLANNING NOW!
If you’re headed to the World Cup in France this summer, now’s the time to start planning! Write mwozniakatrbcdotorg for a press release regarding outreach tracts/videos that RBC ministry will be making available in both Spanish and English. You’ll get a kick out of the possibilities!

————————————–

PRAYER WAVE FOR IRAN
Here’s a group in the UK that would like to create a “wave” of prayer around the globe (a la the kind of “waves” you see at football stadiums and Promise Keeper rallies) for Iran. Cool idea. Write RapAdvanceataoldotcom for more information or if you’re willing to pray May 29-30 for a group in Iran. Put “The Wave” in the subject line. thumbs-up

————————————–

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ARE KNOCKING…. WILL YOU ANSWER?
Over 550,000 international students currently study in American Universities. If you’re reading from some other country, some international students are probably studying at a university near you. As for the USA, every year, 120,000 new students come in and nearly 90,000 return home. These students are the brightest and the best, the top 2-3% from their countries. They will go home to become future leaders in some aspect of their country’s society and socio-economic matrix. There is no question about whether these students will make a difference. The question is, will that difference be for Christ. The World At Your Door is a very practical guide to the vision and the how-to’s of getting individuals and churches involved in outreach to international students. It addresses the strategic and urgent nature of the window of opportunity that God has given the church in America to touch people who will be change agents when they return home. If you’re in the USA, call 1-800-ISI-TEAM. Overseas, use Net-2-phone, or write BNorsworthyatISIonlinedotorg for more information. Put “The World” in the subject line.

“WHO’S ON FIRST?” (MAFxc CONFERENCE COMMAND REVISION)
So, what’s the name of the command you use to get a list of the members of your conference? Wrong. Who? Wrong again. Confused? Right! Let’s start over. Since Feb., 1995, when the Brigada family of email conferences came into being, we’ve always been able to send a command to <hubatxcdotorg> to get a complete list of everybody in a particular conference. This past week, MAFxc finally had to give in and disable the generic “who” command (Exception: the owner of the conference can still do a “who”). This is a good news/bad news story. The bad news is that it’ll be tougher to network. We won’t be able to send a quick “who” to the hub and get an email address list of everyone in our working group. The good news is that security is much tighter and for most of us, the good news probably outweighs the bad news. Now those who were wishing to start or join certain private conferences can do so without fearing that someone will get grab our email address. And now it’ll be impossible for “spammers” (Internet advertisers and bulk mailers) to harvest email addresses from each conference. So if you know of someone who jumped out of the Brigada network because of security fears, please pass along the word that things are now a lot tighter. And if you know of someone who might benefit from one of Brigada’s conferences, please feel free to invite them aboard! Finally, thanks to Jonathan and all the folks at MAFxc for doing their best to maintain a tight ship. Brigada is only one set of conferences on the MAFxc hub (the largest, by the way) — there are hundreds of other conferences and networks. Those MAFxc folk stay pretty busy out there in Redlands, CA. Would you join me today in bowing for a moment to give thanks for their commitment to excellence?

SEMINAR ON CHINA
A wide range of local churches and ministries are sponsoring a regional seminar on unreached people-groups in China, March 6 & 7. The purpose is to promote awareness and mobilize evangelistic adoption of unreached minorities in China. The focus will be on both a survey of the unreached peoples and their needs, practical specific steps toward reaching them, and referrals to possible ministry partners in specific areas. Registration is $5 for Friday evening and $5 for Saturday. For more details, contact Seminar Coordinator Matt Gurvich, mgurvich@livenet.

SO WHAT ARE YOUR “GREAT PASSIONS?”
Honestly, I think I got the idea from the Navigators. As soon as I heard it I knew it was a keeper. The question was actually quite simple. If I were asked, ‘What would be your five great passions?’, how would I answer? This past week, I wrote each of our Team Expansion staff people (115 in some 20 countries) to recommend that Team Expansion begin espousing Five Great Passions everywhere we go in the programs we present, in the newsletters we write, and the letters we send. How effective will we be at communicating them? Only time will tell. But I suppose it’s even more important that we begin living them! So . . . your list might be different . . . but here are the five that we proposed (with great gratitude to the Navigators!):

1. God — We have a passion for God. He’s central to everything we love and do. He’s the reason we’re in business. He’s the focus of our highest dreams and our deepest desires. He’s the purpose for which we labor, the central idea for which we live. We love Him, we live for Him, and yes, if need be, we’d even die for Him.

2. Worship — “Missions exists because worship doesn’t.” John Piper has made it popular (Let the Nations be Glad!), but the Bible’s been saying it all along: The most urgent task isn’t evangelism after all! The noblest activity on earth is to give honor to the one not limited to the earth . . . to praise Him who is above all things. We exist to worship Him. Our lives, our jobs, our very hearts and souls are oriented toward His whispers. Like moss growing on the North side of the tree, we lean into His wind so that in turn, we can sail in the direction of His future. We worship because . . . we were created to do so.

3. Holiness — In gratitude for all He’s done for us, dare we offer anything less than our very lives, our souls, and our heart’s admiration? He’s asked us to live holy and pure lives, reeking of integrity and honor. We don’t live straight lives because we’re scared not to. We live each day with integrity because we’re incredibly overwhelmed by how much He’s been willing to look past our failures when we’ve stumbled! We’re basically just a bunch of broken people, cracked pots, and ruptured vessels. And to that bunch of assorted junk, He has brought love, compassion, mercy and hope. Yikes. Keep us holy, Lord.

4. Prayer — Can you believe we have a pipeline to the throne room? I can’t. He owned us, bought us, then brought us to His presence through prayer. We can walk the world, traveling the trails of continents near and far. In one mere hour, we can lift up the names and faces of the hearts we treasure. We’re committed to spending time with Him… communing with Him… building a relationship with Him. And that only happens when we know Him in prayer.

5. People — We don’t go abroad because of our love for people, but rather, because of our love for God. People change, God doesn’t. People reject us, but God never does. At the same time, our hearts break because there are so many who don’t know Him as savior, Lord, friend, and guide. And the tears we shed for the unreached people around us . . . the ones with which we’re trying to share His hope . . . aren’t our primary motivation for being involved in His work. We’re involved in His work because we love Him… but we’re also swept up in the impact His love could have on the people with which we share this planet. So… when we look around us, we no longer see people from an earthly perspective. We see souls… that can live eternally once they’re set free from the chains of this bothersome tendency to sin. And since He has left us with marching orders, we follow them without hesitation . . . to make disciples of all nations. We choose to work together in teams because He sent them two-by-two and also because we take great pleasure in serving together with like-minded teammates. But even if we were the only family left on the planet next to a tribe of people who didn’t know Him, we’d still go to them, because we love Him. And there’s a corollary to our passion for people. It gives way to a love for language. Granted, it can drive us crazy to learn it . . . but watch our determination and endurance. Watch us never give up . . . until we live, breath, and even dream in the language of the people we’ve come to reach with His promise. We learn their culture, commit His words to a culturally appropriate medium and packaging… but the message is timeless… His love never changes.

So those are our Five Great Passions . . . God, Worship, Holiness, Prayer, and People (with language and culture being a corollary to the last Passion). If those passions strike a resonating chord with you, we hope you’ll join us in our quest to serve the great God of all gods. If you need to renew your commitment to one of those passions, please join us in doing so today. And may God bless you in your quest!

AND NOW A WORD FROM A SPONSOR!
Can you believe it? Someone actually sponsoring Brigada!??? It’s great! Out of the blue this past week, we received a $250 check from Central Presbyterian Church, 7308 York Rd., Baltimore, MD 21204! Tell ya what…. if you live close to these people, would you give ’em a ring and thank them for their investment in making Brigada happen!??? We have to pay annual rental costs for the web site, plus fees, phone calls, plus the administrative costs of answering faxes and tons of email, and best of all, it’s just nice to know that someone wants to “share a moment with the world!” :-) Thanks tons to the great folks at Central Pres. If you live in the Baltimore area and you’re Presbyterian and you don’t have a church home, please seek them out! They’re apparently trying their best to develop a solid missions outreach. Because of their $250 sponsorship, we’ll now set up a reference to them and a big “thank you” on the Brigada web site at http://www.brigada.org on the ” sponsors page.” I think we’ve only had one before in our whole life!!! This is like Christmas!!! :-) (By the way, if you ever have leftover contingency funds or whatever, and if you’d like to join the battle, the address is

Thanks for the thought!)

GET “SITE SNAGGER” TO DOWNLOAD WHOLE WEB SITES FOR FREE!
I wish I’d known about it earlier, before I went out and paid for Teleport Pro (granted… that was 6 months ago). I wanted the capability to download an entire web site — like the whole AD2000 site, or the entire Caleb Project Site — so I could then take it with me when I had to lead seminars or consult with local churches. If I’d only known about Site Snagger (for free) then I would have snagged it instead! Well it’s not too late for you . . . . Just point your browser to: http://www.zdnet.com/pcmag/pctech/content/17/04/ut1704.001.html and you can download Site Snagger which will enable your PC to download entire websites in a single bound! Set it into action before you hit the sack, and in the morning, you’ll have an entire reference set of the JP2000 files right there locally on your PC. Can’t beat that with a stick. Best thing since sliced bread. Just remember, you heard about on Brigada!

GLOBAL GLIMPSE FROM REMOTE MONGOLIA
world globe Missionary radio broadcasters report miraculous church growth in Inner Mongolia, along China’s northern border. Recently the Words of Hope broadcast coordinator had an opportunity to spend some time in the capital city of Inner Mongolia, Hohhot. He attended 9:30 AM service that was packed with over 1,500 people. That church is just one of 40 large churches just in the capitol city of Hohhot. In 13 years the church there has grown from two thousand believers to over 150-thousand with no obvious explanation except the move of the Holy Spirit.

CLARIFICATION ON MOST SPOKEN LANGUAGES
lighting the way Several folks wrote in to ask about Justin Long’s gematxcdotorg research on languages “WOULD THE REAL “LARGEST LANGUAGES” PLEASE STAND UP?”). (Justin works with David Barrett at the GEM office, where they’re preparing the next edition of the _World Christian Encyclopedia_.) He clarified this past week, that the top six groups on the list should have looked like this:
Mandarin Chinese 551 million
English 265 million
Spanish 227 million
Hindi 168 million
Arabic 144 million
Russian 142 million [not “1442 million”
as he reported last week]
Justin commented, “Yes, Russian was meant to be 142 million. … [and] What I meant by second language speakers was that many people, for example, speak Russian as a SECOND language (e.g. they might speak Turkish, but also be fluent in Russian.) So, those numbers are for people who speak the language as their first or “mother tongue”; they don’t include all the people who have learned the language. An example: my wife is included in the “English” mother tongue speaker total. However, she also knows French and Spanish, so she would be included in “second language speakers” if we were to give those totals (which we will in the forthcoming World Christian Encyclopedia 2). With second language speakers Turkish MIGHT be in the top 5, but it’s certainly in the top 10. Another item of confusion: some people talk about “Turkish” being in the top 5 but only when they consider all the Turkish-related languages. When we list Turkish, we are talking only about Turkish itself, not about the others.

HERE’S AN ADOPT-A-PEOPLE PROJECT THAT’S BRINGING PEOPLE TOGETHER!
Galen Daily gdailyatgwedotnet emailed us this past week to update us on her small town, (population of 15,000) where several churches and the local YWAM base have banded together to facilitate various ministries and to adopt an unreached people group(s). She wrote, While we are still in the formative stages it looks like the Lord would have us do the following:

* Provide an additional prayer covering to the work among the Papago people.
* Come along side an existing agency already working with the Huichol people.
* Provide a means for offering a variety of short term missions trips ranging from “vacations with a purpose” to those which are challenging physically and spiritually.
* Adopt a people in SW China.
* Adopt a people in Nepal.

The partnership works because each partner ministry is given the freedom to maintain its own distinctiveness and its own missions focus. What each partner agency brings to the partnership is a function of what the Lord has laid on the hearts of the leadership of the individual agency. The burden among the members of the partnership is for all the lost; not just the people they have traditionally worked with.

The two primary churches are very different; one is Presbyterian (PCUSA) and the other Foursquare. The partnership works because each pastor loves and respects the other, and each has a heart for missions. Both pastors also love and respect the director of the YWAM base.

The partnership had its beginnings with a series of meetings between missions oriented leaders from the two churches. These meetings led to the co-teaching of missions classes between the churches and then the idea of the partnership was born.

We are constantly trying to expand the partnership. We have contacted the bulk of the churches in town with an invitation to join us and are continuing in our attempts to build relationships with them.

I am Galen Daily and I coordinate the partnership. I would be happy to answer any questions about how the Lord led us to our current level of cooperation. I can be reached at gdailyatgwedotnet or (970) 249-8933.

Much of what we have gone through is covered in an excellent course called Resource Advocate Training Seminar. The seminar is coordinated by John Hanna of Caleb Project. The next seminar is scheduled for May 7-9, 1998 in Littleton, Colorado. John can be reached at JHannaatcprojectdotcom or (303) 730-4170.
[Great stuff, Galen!!!] thumbs-up
