THE VALUE OF SHORT TERM OUTREACHES

Here is an opportunity for you to be involved in a manual that will be a practical guide in helping organizations, churches and individuals in understanding the value of short-term outreaches. It will focus on the “how to” and the “why” questions, specifically focused on taking teams to unreached peoples. It will give suggestions about pit falls and how to be culturally sensitive touching on issues of contectulization. If anyone has any material to contribute to this manual on The Value Of Short Term Outreahces please could you forward it to charliep@info.bw or send it to: Charlie, PO BOX 448, MAUN, BOTSWANA.

CORRESPONDENCE SCHOOL DATABASE TRIAL VERSION

graduation capRemember that database we mentioned previously that’s designed to help those administrating correspondence courses? Well now the authors have forged a trial version in true “try-before-you-buy” fashion. This trial version is the fully operational database but limited to five individuals/students. The’ll remove this limitation when you register it according to the instructions included in the download file and database. The self-extracting download file is approximately 11 Mbytes, so it may take a while to download depending upon your modem speed. Check it out at: http://www.rkhs.com/donandbev/database.htm.

CHRISTIAN COMICS/CARTOON BOOKS NOW AVAILABLE ON-LINE

Just rec’d this item from Nate: “Thanks to a great tip from a recent BRIGADA …, ROX35 Media, Inc. is now offering a new resource to fill the gap created by the demise of the Christian Comics Catalog last year. In association with Amazon.com, the Christian Comics International web site (which ROX35 maintains as a ministry service) is now listing 20 different Christian comics, cartoon, and related paperback & hardback books which can be ordered on-line, on-the-spot, including Bible adaptations, comics paperbacks, cartoon collections, and more. This is a “win-win-win” situation because
  1. It is a valuable resource to everyone who is looking for Christian comics,
  2. It supports individual Christians and Christian publishers who are producing this material,
  3. It advances ROX35’s mission to encourage use of Christian comics for evangelism & discipleship, and
  4. It will raise some additional funding for the comics training ministry work of ROX35 Media, Inc. via the commissions received on each book purchased through the CCI site.

You can browse at: http://users.aol.com/ChriCom/buybooks.html.”

IN THOSE ANONYMOUS TIMES, WHO DO YOU CHOOSE TO BE?

You know the times I mean. You’re traveling along on a train in a country where nobody even knows your name. You’re in an airport far away from home. Or maybe you’re just out in the bush at a village where your mission doesn’t have a project – and you know that no one in the world even knows where you are. In those times and all the other “anonymous” times, who do you choose to be?

I’m beginning to think that those are the times in which we learn most about ourselves. Because when we’re with others who know us, we probably tend to model our behavior a little bit like their expectations. But when your totally anonymous… where do your eyes glance? Where do your thoughts take you about the person you just met?

I have a feeling that Paul must have worked this out. He wrote, in II Co. 5:16 and following, “So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. … Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”

So you see my point – when we’re in those totally anonymous times, maybe that’s when we need to work all the harder to become the person He wants us to be for that moment. This morning I’m in one of those situations at the University of Oklahoma. I had to choose carefully to get up and have quiet time with the Lord – and with the schedule here, I had to rise at 4:50am to do it. But I’m beginning to realize that it’s those little decisions… the ones at 4:50 in the morning when nobody in the whole world will know it except you and God – those are the times that mold us into the people God wants us to be. I went out, found a gazebo, and sang out loud to the Lord and realized… that was the place He wanted me to be this morning.

So where does He want you to be today?

Thanks to for hosting the Brigada mailing list.
Emphasis is placed on items relating to unreached peoples and challenges faced by those reaching them cross-culturally.

not symbolPLEASE DON’T SUBSCRIBE US TO YOUR LIST — It’s always better to ask before manually force-adding anyone to your list-serve or mailing list. Recently, tons of well-meaning people have been subscribing Doug to their lists. Since he often travels overseas, he doesn’t join many of those, for obvious reasons (like being charged big-time for overseas access). So as a general rule, please don’t bulk-mail us! See the note above if you’d like to submit items for Brigada Today. Thanks for understanding. Bottom line: We will never create Brigada Today items from bulk mail. Bulk mail gets deleted immediately — sorry. Nothing personal. We suggest you apply the same standard to everyone. Ask first!

OPCWARNING ABOUT FORWARDING EMAILS — Please, before forwarding any kind of request (even if it says “please send this to all your friends”), please check to make sure it has a VERIFIABLE ORIGIN, a VERIFIABLE PURPOSE, and a VERIFIABLE CLOSURE (OPC). By following this simple approach, many “email viruses” could be nipped in the bud… at least in the Brigada family. More information about the full Brigada OPC protocol is available. Thank you.
