WHAT IN THE WORLD IS BRIGADA?

Brigada Logo Brigada, pronounced “bree-GAH-dah”, is the rough equivalent (in Russian, Spanish, and even Filipino!) of a “brigade.” The idea is to stand side by side to pass buckets of hope for those most in need of Christ’s eternal message! Check out nearly 5 years of weekly back issues at http://www.brigada.org. See recent back issues and links at http://www.eGroups.com/list/brigada-today. NEW TOOL FOR PRESENTING THE GOSPEL: EVANGE-CUBE

Global Missions Fellowship, has developed a new tool to help people share the gospel in every country of the world. Evange-Cube is a rubix-cube like object in size. The cube is designed to unfold 8 times, each fold revealing a new picture. With each picture the facts of the gospel are revealed. The cube is very simple to use and creates its own opportunities to share the gospel. Because it is ‘visual’ and so unique, it attracts incredible attention. The cube comes with an ‘instruction page’ which guides you through a dialogue and key Scriptures to use ‘as you unfold the answer to life’s greatest puzzle’. The Evange-Cube can be viewed at http://www.evangecube.org. Global Missions Fellowship can be contacted at 1-800-5-I-CAN-GO in the USA or 972-783-7476, or at nathandotsheetsatgmfdotorg  (nathandotsheetsatgmfdotorg)  . Cubes are $5.95 plus shipping and handling. Churches, mission agencies, youth groups, children’s ministries, Bible schools, outreach groups, etc. can make effective use of this easy to use evangelism tool. Don’t miss this cutting-edge unique tool for personal evangelism. It looks pretty cool, I’ll have to admit!

MISSION FRONTIERS WEBSITE REACHES FOR NEW HEIGHTS

WebWatch Can it be? Is it possible? Yes, it’s true! Mission Frontiers Magazine has soared into a whole new dimension with the latest addition to their web site called “MF News Central” They’ve put together a huge collection of Mission and Christian news, US & World News as well as research links for studying unreached peoples. You can check it out at http://www.missionfrontiers.org/. If you are preparing for a prayer journey in October be sure to check out the global weather reports, travel advisories, prayer resources and people profiles and more. They are continually working to improve this wonderful collection so feel free to pass on your suggestions for the best news and research sites to Rick at rickwmfataoldotcom  (rickwmfataoldotcom)  .

DYING TO LIVE: THE 21ST CENTURY CHURCH

book There’s a new book out there, Dying to Live, that, according to some, paints a very accurate picture of the driving forces and opportunities for mission in the 21st century. Future technologies will open a world never reached before. Spiritual leaders everywhere are moving fast to fill the vacuum. Read the reviews of this important book by Thomas Hohstadt at Amazon.com, or click on the link below to go immediately to the book’s web page. Obtain additional information through Hohstadtatcaprokdotnet  (Hohstadtatcaprokdotnet)  . Note that the URL below will probably be “wrapped” on your email screen. You’ll have to cut and paste it in two halves and reconstruct it in the URL box of your browser: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0967294401/o/qid=935075065/sr=8-1/002-6794464-2867069

“YAFVS” (YET ANOTHER FREE VOICEMAIL SITE)

[Ho-hum.] Well, there’s [yawn] yawning face yet another site giving away free voicemail. [sigh] :-) I’m joshing of course. It’s great that sites like uReach (mentioned last week) are offering toll-free voicemail. It makes onebox (see them on the web at http://www.onebox.com ) look cheap! But I guess if you happen to live in one of the few places where onebox has a local access number, then the onebox approach is sound, because all your friends would have a local number to call to leave you messages — and there’s no half-hour per month limit to your voicemails. So, it’s one to keep tabs on. Keep watching . . . and if you live in California, it’s worth checking out today. They’ve got lots of locations there.

SO HOW DO WE DO QUAKE COUNSELING?

On Wednesday, I’ll be attending a planning meeting on how to respond to the needs of earthquake victims in Turkey. What do we do? Long term expatriate residents ministering in the Turkey quake zone see king-sized opportunities. Fear of dying in a quake is a pervasive mood among Turks. Some say God is opening a door for believers to bring to Turks truly good news in the form of how to cope with fear. Help is needed on two strategic rapid responses.
First, some are wanting to find or create an illustrated booklet to translate and hand out to kids and adults who have been living in fear for weeks. It would study the nature of fear, how to cope, maybe with some Scripture and some Christian perspective, but not overtly evangelistic. So… has anyone done something like this? Are there any illustrators and counselors that can quickly produce it? Perhaps there’s a secular book that could be revised?
Second, can field workers hook up with a Christian counselor experienced in teaching people to cope with fear? Better yet, on equipper who can teach others to teach people to cope.
Obviously, the need is current — we must move quickly. Booklets or other coping resource could be well received by huge numbers, but obviously, the window of opportunity is limited. If you have ideas, contact Bernie the-fellowshipatinamedotcom  (the-fellowshipatinamedotcom)  , and please, if you don’t mind, copy Tim at TParkeratTeamExpansiondotorg  (TParkeratTeamExpansiondotorg)  . Bernie will prepare a compiled report on options for us to post here. Thanks Bernie!

THANKS FROM A RESEARCHER ON AFRICAN AMERICAN MISSIONS

A researcher who has received responses from over 100 African American cross cultural missionaries as to the reasons for so few African Americans in cross cultural missions thanks Brigada readers who helped him back in late 1996, and has made available a summary of his dissertation research to Brigada readers at: http://www.ReconciliationNetwork.org/private.htm (He is still planning to publish the information, which is why it is “private.”) For those without Web access, write to Jim at jimsatveidotnet  (jimsatveidotnet)   for an email copy of the research summary, without charts. Other papers regarding African American missions are available via Word 97 email attachments (only). He can be reached at (423)822-1091 in the USA. He requests help for ongoing research at http://www.ReconciliationNetwork.org/research. For those wanting a copy of the entire dissertation, go to http://wwwlib.umi.com/dissertations/main and enter # 9826892 for ordering information and/or to download the first 25 pages for free. Mission organizations specifically seeking African Americans for cross- cultural ministry are invited to be listed and linked to at his website by giving information at http://www.ReconciliationNetwork.org/missionslist.htm Thanks, Jim, for remembering us here at Brigada!

WHAT’S NEXT AFTER AD2000

ad2ksm So, have you wondered what will become of AD2000 & Beyond after Ad2000? :-) So have a lot of other people. Well Brigada Today has recently learned about an executive pow-wow in Copper Canyon, Texas to discuss exactly that. There, representatives from several groups gathered to pray and brainstorm. There were folks from the AD2000 and Beyond Movement, the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization, and even the World Evangelical Fellowship. The outcome? An international committee and a Facilitation Group poised to come up with a developmental plan over the coming months. Let’s pray that God will guide them as they try to scope out “next steps” after AD2000. We’re glad they’re thinking those through!

not symbolPLEASE DON’T SUBSCRIBE US TO YOUR LIST — It’s always better to ask before manually force-adding anyone to your list-serve or mailing list. Recently, tons of well-meaning people have been subscribing Doug to their lists. Since he often travels overseas, he doesn’t join many of those, for obvious reasons (like being charged big-time for overseas access). So as a general rule, please don’t bulk-mail us! See the note above if you’d like to submit items for Brigada Today. Thanks for understanding. Bottom line: We will never create Brigada Today items from bulk mail. Bulk mail gets deleted immediately — sorry. Nothing personal. We suggest you apply the same standard to everyone. Ask first!

OPCWARNING ABOUT FORWARDING EMAILS — Please, before forwarding any kind of request (even if it says “please send this to all your friends”), please check to make sure it has a VERIFIABLE ORIGIN, a VERIFIABLE PURPOSE, and a VERIFIABLE CLOSURE (OPC). By following this simple approach, many “email viruses” could be nipped in the bud… at least in the Brigada family. More information about the full Brigada OPC protocol is available. Thank you.

SCOREBOARD ON REACHING THE LEAST REACHED

Joshua Project 2000 logo Dan Scribner, of AD2000 & Beyond’s International Office just sent us a summary of how the Joshua Project 2000 campaign is going. As you might recall, it was announced in November/December, 1995. Remember too that the criteria for being on the list are that the population be greater than 10,000 in a given country, and that the people group should be ethno-linguistically distinct, less than two (2) percent Evangelical and less than five (5) percent Christian adherents. According to Dan, eighteen months ago the Joshua Project 2000 list included 1510 active groups. Today the list has 1596 groups. In the last 18 months, 253 groups have been added to the active list because they fit the above criteria. During the same period, 167 groups were removed from the active list because either new data showed the group was incorrectly on the list to begin with or because progress of the Gospel moved the group above the criteria.
--------------------------------------

3700 CHANGES TO THE JP2000 LIST IN 18 MONTHS!

Joshua Project 2000 logo Dan went on to add that, during the last 18 months, over 3,700 changes or edits have been made to the Joshua Project list. This includes changes such as updates to people name, population figures, percent Evangelical and Adherents, Bible translation status, etc. During this same period nearly 15,000 new pieces of ministry-related information have been reported to AD2000 & Beyond bringing the total number of records of work-among related data to well over 40,000. Three milestones are tracked for each people group on the active Joshua Project 2000 list:

  1. Targeted – is there a specific commitment to begin church planting among this group by Dec 31, 2000?
  2. Church Planting team – is there an on-site church planting team among this people?
  3. Fellowship of 100 – is there a fellowship of at least 100 indigenous believers among this people?

--------------------------------------

COMPARING THE JP2000 LIST TO 18 MONTHS AGO

Joshua Project 2000 logo One of the most significant advancements in the Joshua Project 2000 list can be seen when comparing the percentages for these three milestones from 18 months ago with today.

18 Months Ago Today
Reported Fellowship of 100 4% 30%
On-site Church Planting Team 43% 65%
Targeted for future Church Planting 77% 88%

According to the data reported to AD2000, today only 12 percent of the Joshua Project 2000 list remain untargeted. If you’d like a copy of the list of 194 untargeted groups on the Joshua Project list, send a message to untargetedatbrigadadotworldchurchesdotorg  (untargetedatbrigadadotworldchurchesdotorg)  . A copy will be sent to you automatically.

SO IS YOUR GRAD DEGREE HELPFUL?

graduation capThat’s what Phillip HuberPhilataoldotcom  (HuberPhilataoldotcom)   would like to know. He’s Managing Editor of World Christian and Tomorrow’s Christian Graduate magazines and, for the latter, he’s putting together an issue on the importance of grad school for tomorrow’s missionaries. If you’ve got a graduate degree and would like to comment, you can either

  1. write to Brigada-responses-subscribeategroupsdotcom  (Brigada-responses-subscribeategroupsdotcom)   then send your comment to Brigada-responsesategroupsdotcom  (Brigada-responsesategroupsdotcom)   or alternatively, just
  2. write your response directly to Phillip at the address above.

If he had his wish come true, he’d hear your name, mission, type of work, country (if not sensitive), grad school/seminary attended, program, why you chose the program, why graduate-level education is important and how your education has helped your ministry. Who knows — you might be quoted in one of his magazines! :-)

INT’L CALLING PLAN COULD PAY YOUR WAY TO LONDON

telephone This just in from a guy who says he’s going to sponsor Brigada in the very near future. Remember the guy who offers the luxury Bed and Breakfast on his Colorado ranch practically free to missionaries (and which still has openings in Fall and Winter, by the way)? Well an unusual opportunity has spun out of his successful creative-access “Kingdom Business” platform. Now, for missionaries and/or others traveling through international airports and other tourist areas, particularly Europe, Taylored Communications, Int’l, will provide, at no cost, a means to strategically place international calling info as you travel. A “casual” minor effort creates a calling opportunity for others and medium term residual income off calls generated. The “Beta Test Missionary” paid for his trip to London for 15 minutes effort. Calls came in for three months. If you’re not a missionary, the company will be happy to send the income to Brigada or some other missions project. WEBWATCH: TAKE AIM ON AIMS

WebWatch Accelerating International Mission Strategies (AIMS) recently launched an updated website which outlines the details and results of last year’s ministry reorganization. The site features information about AIMS’ people group adoption program, as well as its alliances, seminars and products. It also features information about the newly organized Alliance For Missions Advancement (AFMA) and other ministry outreaches. The site can be accessed at http://www.aims.org.

ANOTHER OPTION FOR THOSE WANTING INTERNATIONAL CONNECTIONS

MAF logo Brigada participant Brian kicked in one last for international email travelers: that MAF can set you up with an email-only account that you can access from virtually any country in the world without having to dial internationally. It uses the EQUANT network (the one the travel agencies and Airline companies use). So just about any country with an international airline will have a local number (at least in the capitol city). From interior it will probably take a Long Distance call to the capitol, but from there it is a flat rate of (last time I checked) $0.75 per minute (not that expensive when you consider the alternative of dialing internationally!) Again, as Brian reminded, this is for email only, but really, most of the time, that’s the most significant need when traveling anyway. For more information, contact HelpDeskatmafdotorg  (HelpDeskatmafdotorg)  . Great tip, Brian! Thanks!

GLOBAL GLIMPSE: PYRAMID MARKETING

world globe… in a manner of speaking, anyway. You see, Egypt appears around 700 times in the Bible. Today, the Bible is appearing with increasing frequency in Egypt,” writes the German Bible League, which distributes Bibles in Egypt, among other places, and trains local Christians. “In Egypt, it is illegal for more than 5 people to meet in a house, but over the last year, 36,000 people met in 1,267 Bible groups. In 1998 alone, 71 house churches were started by local Christians working with the Bible League.

Little by little, we’re trying to transfer all the links from the “root listing” into the hierarchical format. It’s going to take a while!!! Want to help? Check out the setup, then jump in and help us reorganize! We could use a hand! Also, please help us add sites that would be useful for the whole Brigada family!

THIS YOU GOTTA’ SEE! – UREACH.COM

WebWatch I’m thinking that Jon just might get the “Find of the Year” award!!! This Ureach.com stuff is GREAT! He referred us to http://www.ureach.com and … trust me… this is one site you’ll want to visit! If you’re overseas without a web connection, you might want your forwarding agent or friend to set you up. Here’s the way it works. UReach.com gives you your own personal 800 number, then proceeds to set up access to your own personal email address (yournameatureachdotcom), voicemail (toll-free in the USA), faxes (also toll-free), address book, and calendar from the phone or web. Jon even found an MSNBC.com review so you’d know it’s legitimate… at http://www.msnbc.com/news/269291.asp. And guess what else: You can set it up so it automatically forwards faxes, for instance. So here’s the way you could work it. Get eFax (at www.efax.com) and set up eFax on your computer. Then get uReach and set up faxing to forward all faxes to your eFax number. Now you have a fax number (that’s toll-free to anyone in the USA) which automatically forwards your faxes to eFax which then automatically converts them to compressed graphics and emails them to your email inbox wherever you are in the world! You click on the attached file and the eFax viewer lets you see them and print them and… shazam! You’ve got free faxing . . . all in exchange for glancing at a few ads! :-) What’s more, you can then forward the fax (via uReach) to other fax numbers if someone else needs to see it! All for free! And think about the voicemail possibilities! Say you’ve got web access, but you’re in the Balkans or wherever. Your Mom can call a toll-free voicemail number (as long as she doesn’t talk over 30 minutes per month! :-) ), leave you a message, which you will then listen to over the uReach web site for pennies per minute… or less. No more of this $1/minute+ calling and getting an answering machine stuff, just to leave a message. I love it!!! So — Jon — thanks for being on the prowl!

YOU’VE GOT MAIL: ELETTER !

letter and ligntening bolt Here’s another great deal! (Two in one issue! Can you believe it??? :-) ) Every-once-in-awhile we get an inquiring Brigada participant who wants to know if there’s any affordable way to send an email from overseas that gets mailed as a letter in the USA. We’ve talked about some possible solutions. Over the years, we’ve looked at a couple of solutions, including CompuServe’s service (which was like . . . $1/page or whatever). Well now there’s eLetter! Just visit www.eletter.com and check it out. You upload the file via your browser, specify the address(es), and bingo — your letter is sent automatically! What’s more, you can upload a mailing list and have eLetter send out your monthly or quarterly report! There’s a small fee… about 25 cents per letter plus normal postage fees. But it’s very reasonable, considering they’re providing paper, envelope, printing costs, folding, stuffing, and postage/handling. They let you try a free sample (to mail a letter to yourself). Check it out! You’ll love it!

WE GET SUPPORT FROM…

Brigada Logo This week, we got support from Richard at RMJ Services, Inc, tel. 734-941-8120, fax 734-941-8127, email rmjservicesatjunodotcom  (rmjservicesatjunodotcom)  . RMJ handles trucking and ocean freight to send missionary goods, Bibles, literature, and relief goods wherever you want it to go. RMJ can ship from ports like Baltimore, Miami, Chicago, Houston, Toronto, Seattle and even LA. PLUS, you’ll get full risk insurance from Lloyds of London and fully licensed customs clearance. If you need airfreight, ocean carriage, or trucking, please try RMJ and don’t forget to thank them for their support of Brigada!

HERE’S A GREAT DEAL FOR INTERNET CONNECTIVITY

Okay… so let’s say you’re tired of getting busy signals or slow throughput from your current Internet Service Provider. If you live in the USA, here’s an offer you’ll like! Call Mindspring at 1-888-MSPRING anytime between now and September 30, 1999 and sign-up for a new MindSpring account. They’ve got great customer support, fast throughput, and points of presence (POPs) all over the USA in just about every city imaginable — plus cheap toll-free access for rural areas too! And they’re hooked up with a service that lets you do “global roaming” called GRIC so… just about wherever you go in the world, Netcom is there! To get this special deal you need to say “I’d be happier using MindSpring” to the sales representative. Get this! They’ll credit your account with $60 — $10 credit per month for the first 6 months! That means for six months, you’ll get unlimited Internet connectivity for $10/month!!! Yahooo! Yahoo Even if you drop out at the end of the 6th month, you’ll still have gotten the very best deal in town! Mindspring has one of the top rankings for log-on rates and they’re very dependable now that they’ve converted their entire system to new software. Besides… for $10/month, how can you lose! That’s the same price you have to pay CompuServe for just 3 hours per month!

CAMBODIAN CONFERENCE YIELDS MEDIA PROMISE!

The Media Potentials in Cambodia Consultation was held in Phnom Penh Aug 5-6th. 18 representatives of mission organizations working in Cambodia attended. Very important was the molding of a long-term cooperation effort on the part of two main evangelical denominations in regional media production. The schedule calls for immediate production of original Khmer songs and karaoke music videos for video compact disk (VCD) distribution. VCDs reflect a leap in technology over VHS cassette as a medium for entertainment and education in war-torn Cambodia. Plans are to establish an automatic dialogue replacement studio (ADR) by the end of 1999. For more information, contact the project consultant, Dan, at Mediaprofatbigfootdotcom  (Mediaprofatbigfootdotcom)  .

Read 4+ years of weekly back issues at http://www.brigada.org. See recent back issues and links at http://www.eGroups.com/list/brigada-today . UNREACHED PEOPLES RESEARCH UPDATE

Joshua Project 2000 logo Dan Scribner from AD2000 & Beyond’s International Office in Colorado just sent another update on people groups listed in the Joshua Project 2000 database. Dan reported that there are now 1596 people groups on the active JP list, with 1118 having no Church of 100 reported. In fact, 550 peoples have no reported on-site Church Planting team. But the good part is that only 194 remain as “untargeted or “unclaimed.” So the good news is that there have literally been thousands of linkages formed in the short time that the Joshua Project 2000 list has been around. Many of those linkages were no doubt already in process prior to 1995 (when the JP2000 list was first presented by AD2000), but there were few ways to learn about them. The AD2000 & Beyond Movement concept has promoted the concept of synergy, i.e., getting the body to work together on the remaining task. So how do you spell success? If you truly want a “church for every people” by the end of the year 2000, then we would need to see new churches of 100 or more worshipping believers among those last 1118 people groups. If, on the other hand, one defines success as that a church-planting team is laboring among the group, only 550 more teams are needed. And finally, if one were to hold that success is equal to gaining a commitment from some agency or church that there is an intention to eventually place a church-planting team among a particular group, only 194 groups remain. Take your pick. Many have concluded that the latter goal is within our sphere of influence — it’s something we can change. The “team on-site” goal is a bit tougher, because it requires tons of trained personnel, but it’s still within our reach. The “100 worshipping believers” thing is largely up to God himself. Unfortunately, we can’t effect that kind of change without the cooperation of the Spirit, tons of willing listeners, and lots of unique opportunities. Only God can move in that way… and fortunately, among many people groups around the globe, that’s exactly what He seems to be doing!

THE ANTIOCH NETWORK ANNUAL GATHERING OF CHURCHES

This year’s Antioch Gathering focuses on nuts-and-bolts “how to” steps for churches to meaningfully engage an unreached people group. Speakers include George Miley, President of Antioch Network, Larry Stockstill, Senior Pastor of Bethany World Prayer Center, Les Beauchamp, Senior Pastor of Trinity Church, and Fred Markert of YWAM. A wide array of workshops support the plenary sessions. The Gathering will be held at the beautiful Mission Palms Resort in Tempe, AZ, (Phoenix area) August 25-28. It’s not too late to decide to attend. Telephone 602-589-7777 or write gatheringatantiochnetworkdotorg  (gatheringatantiochnetworkdotorg)  . Or register online at their website at http://www.antiochnetwork.org. Registration is $150/person. Resort accommodation $79/night. This is a great deal for our overseas missionaries to fax back to the U.S. Obviously, you must have web access. Thanks Rich!

VOICEMAIL IN YOUR INBOX

telephone Rich is coming up with a way to give away voicemail, delivered to your inbox wherever you are in the world. I think this thing has possibilities. He’s using Real Audio via e-mail. Voicemail numbers provided for free. According to Rich, more areas codes are coming this fall, but for now, only the (718) area code is available. So most of your callers would have to dial a toll number to leave you a voice mail. But this has potential, especially for those who aren’t computer users who want to get you a quick message overseas. For more information, check out http://www.messageclick.com or write Rich RichatNiccollsdotorg  (RichatNiccollsdotorg)  .

SAY HELLO TO IBOOK – THE IMAC TO GO

Apple Logo Okay… so here’s my nod to the devoted MAC users I’ve always snubbed. :-) Geoff just filled me in on the iBook, Apple’s new notebook computer. According to Geoff, the iBook is just the thing for missionaries looking for power. It’s made of polycarbonate (the same material they make bullet proof vests out of) and a tough rubber surrounding the edges. Inside is a 300Mhz Power PC Processor (up to twice as fast as a pentium II), 32MB RAM, 3.2GB Hard Drive, a 24xCD ROM, a 12.1″ Active screen, 10/100Mbps Ethernet, USB port and a 56k Modem. It comes with all the software you need to connect to the Internet and is priced at US$1599. For more information check out http://www.apple.com/iBook or call 1-800-795-1000 in the US. Now then. I did it. Sigh. I knew I could get it out. :-)

SCAM-WATCH: AREA CODE 809?

not symbol This past week, several Brigada participants have unearthed questions about “area code 809.” Apparently there’s some fear that this will develop into a kind of scam, since area code 809 sounds like a toll-free line but is really the country code for calling the Bahamas! We even ran an item in Brigada Today way back when (October 19, 1996). Trouble is, although warnings are profuse, I have yet to hear of a single Brigada participant who has been bitten by this scam. And I can’t even figure out why anyone would try to pull it off, except as a downright mean practical joke. In other words, how does it help the con artist if you dial a long distance number in the Bahamas. What can the con artist hope to gain? So… after some thought, I’m back to the common conclusion — this 809 scam-watch warning that’s circulating (again) is probably another form of bandwidth-wasting junk mail filling up our inboxes!

TIPS FOR INT’L EMAIL TRAVELERS – PART 6

letter and ligntening bolt Thanks to Jonathan K., who wrote this past week to encourage me to point out that, in several countries, the voltage traveling through those phone lines in your hotel room can be deadly. Gulp. :-) Though I’ve never experienced a problem with directly connecting jumpers to the bare wires of a phone terminal, I suppose we should print some kind of disclaimer encouraging people to first attempt all other courses of action before any kind of bare-wire direct-connect approach. As we’ve recommended in other “tips” items, be sure to try to find a proper plug-to-jack adaptor for your modem cable, so you can avoid the risk. Jon also suggested the possibility of a good acoustic coupler as a contingency. The telephone equipment supply sources we’ve provided have those for sale. An acoustic coupler is a device that literally “hears” the modem noises through the phone and converts them back into electronic data for your modem cable and vice-versa. The devices typically cost a few hundred dollars and permit transfer rates of up to 4800 baud maximum — which is still “okay” for email but would never accommodate browsing the web, of course. Thanks for watching out for everybody’s safety, Jonathan K.! If you’d like a compiled copy of all the “TIPS FOR INT’L EMAIL TRAVELERS” segments that we’ve shared over these past few weeks, just send a note to email_traveling_tipsatbrigadadotworldchurchesdotorg  (email%3Cb%3E%3Ci%3Etraveling%3C/i%3E%3C/b%3Etipsatbrigadadotworldchurchesdotorg)   and a copy will be sent to your email inbox within minutes (5 pages, 27K).

CHILDREN OF WAR FACTS (INT’L DAY OF PRAYER)

praying hands According to the International Committee of the Red Cross, in some parts of Asia, children are being mutilated for life because of the millions of mines strewn over the countryside. They are abandoned to their fate and forced to eke out an existence as best they can. Antipersonnel mines often look like brightly colored toys but when mines are picked up or stepped on they maim and kill indiscriminately. In some places troops send children on ahead, thereby testing the route. As a result, it has found that the materials work effectively in many different cultures and among many different ethnic groups in both urban and rural settings. “GO GO GADGET OFF-LINE BROWSING”

Internet ExplorerOkay… so maybe I’m affected today by the movie that my family and I attended this past week (Inspector Gadget — it was great foolish fun!). But the truth is, off- line browsing is a great addition to Microsoft Internet Explorer Ver. 5.0 and higher. It’s worth upgrading just to get this one feature. All you do is tell IE that you want to download a site for browsing later on, set it to work, then when you get up the next morning, you can take the entire AD2000 & Beyond web site with you, to your next seminar or conference! I remember previously having to purchase add-ons like Web- Whacker or Teleport Pro to accomplish this same purpose! Now it’s built into the kernel! ‘Course, isn’t that one of Microsoft’s favorite ploys? :-) Anyway, I’m about to erase Teleport Pro from my hard drive! Who needs it any more! :-)

MARKETPLACE CHRISTIANITY

Do you have a heart for the unreached in the marketplace? Worldwide, Christians are hearing a call from the Lord to make their workplace a place of personal ministry. Christians are using their businesses as a platform for ministry and discovering that they are reaching people who never go near a church. Back-to back conferences in Atlanta Georgia from September 11-16, 1999 will address “Restoring the Marketplace to God’s Economy” and “Applying the Armor of God in Uncertain Times.” Lots of interaction among participants and great speakers. See http://www.wowi.net/conference and http://www.marketplaceleaders.org. You are invited to attend and/or become part of the intercessory prayer team covering these conferences. Y2K RESPONSES?

Brian works with an international ministry organization and is wondering what other mission organizations are doing to take care of their American expatriate missionaries regarding Y2K. He hopes you’ll drop him a line and let him know what your organization is doing to prepare… and whether or not those plans apply to only the international office or all overseas missionaries too. Write him at briansatcefincdotorg  (briansatcefincdotorg)   and he’ll compile a summary to post.

not symbolPLEASE DON’T SUBSCRIBE US TO YOUR LIST — It’s always better to ask before manually force-adding anyone to your list-serve or mailing list.

Thank you.
