STUPENDOUS UPDATE FROM OPERATION WORLD EDITOR

We received this note last Thursday from Patrick Johnstone, lead author of Operation World.

“Doug,
“A little message to say that God has been gracious to us and enabled us to complete the text of Operation World (OW) just in time to send off the CD by the deadline with its complex PDF files ready for printing. This we aim to send by DHL or equivalent tomorrow, 30th June.

“The final book with indices on peoples and places is about 824 pages long. The greater length is due to better lay-out, inclusion of new material on top of what has been an almost complete re-write (probably about 80%). New features include answers to prayer for many countries and the index. The book itself will be almost exactly the same size as the last, but with thinner paper.

“Thank you and all Brigada readers for prayer on our behalf. Wonderfully we have had 9 months of only minor computer problems in spite of having no resident computer manager on site and we have been in reasonable health as a team even though we have worked overtime on this for many months.

“I believe this is the best OW yet. It is certainly the best-checked with input from thousands of people. What a wonderful global team we have had! We trust that there are no harmful comments, silly bloobs or serious omissions.

“We are now finalizing the CD version with it ancillary components. Our colleagues of GMI are working hard on this production now. This will, for the first time, give all CD owners access in a more user-friendly way our whole database with sources.

“The new book and CD as well as the completely re-vamped children’s’ version (formerly YOU CAN CHANGE THE WORLD) and now called WINDOW ON THE WORLD (this looks brilliant!) will be launched in the UK on 6 Sept on the MV Logos II in London and a few days later in the USA at the Florida Jamboree of the EFMA/IFMA/ACMC.

“In Jesus and for world evangelization,

“Patrick and Robyn Johnstone”

Yahooooooooo! This is a great piece of news

KINGDOM CONNECTIONS

calendar Interested in finding ways to better connect to the global partnership movement? Here is an opportunity to get involved. Interdev is offering a partnership education seminar designed for church and organizational leaders interested in a better understanding of the principles driving evangelism/church planting partnerships. “Kingdom Connections” will be held in Seattle, October 10-12, 2001, and is being sponsored by Interdev with Evangelical Fellowship of Mission Agencies (EFMA), the Interdenominational Fellowship of Mission Agencies (IFMA), Advancing Churches in Missions Commitment (ACMC) and World Evangelical Fellowship (WEF). For brochure and full registration information, please contact Interdev-USatxcdotorg  (Interdev-USatxcdotorg)  . There is a limit to the number of people allowed in these courses so early application and registration is crucial.

NONPROFIT PUBLISHER FOR CHURCHES AND MISSIONS

books Master Design Ministries is a unique book publisher. They only publish books for churches and missions/missionaries and, because of their missionary staff, at a fraction of the cost of most self-publishers. So if you have a book in any language (from Bibles to primers to biographies to devotionals to Bible studies) that you want to publish, take a look at their services and pricing. You can find them on the web at http://www.masterdesign.org or contact them via email at infoatmasterdesigndotorg  (infoatmasterdesigndotorg)  .

ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE FOR FREE

virus Thanks to Paul for the great tip regarding AVG by Grisoft. He wrote, “I’ve been using it for a couple of years… it’s completely free, even the monthly updates. It catches one or two viruses every month in my emails now. Some even from computers that supposedly were protected by other virus software such as McAffee :-( It’s very user friendly — don’t know how they can give it away for free (there is a commercial version that they charge for, though).” I guess that’s one of the secrets of the Brigada family. We throw out an idea and someone (among the nearly 10,000 of us) has an even better option! … and at an even more attractive price! :-) Check out Paul’s option at http://www.grisoft.com

CONFERENCE FOR JAPANESE & THOSE WORKING WITH JAPANESE

ANTICIPATING CHURCH PLANTING? GOT A WEEK?

graduation cap Too many church planters take the latest church-planting model, transplant it to other parts of the world, then wonder why things didn’t go well. Developing an effective model for the particular context means greater effectiveness. This one week course, taught at the Center for Intercultural Training by Dr. Tom Steffen of Biola University, is a survey and analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of various church-planting models and strategies used around the world. It identifies key factors that the church planter can implement in a context specific, phase-out oriented church-planting strategy. Course dates are July 30-August 3, 2001. Interested? Write citinfoatcompuservedotcom  (citinfoatcompuservedotcom)   or call (toll-free in the USA or via Net2Phone) 800-887-1786 or visit http://www.citi.org.

DEVELOP THE SKILLS NEEDED TO UNDERSTAND YOUR TARGET CULTURE

graduation cap Here’s a three-week intensive course designed to teach the missionary how to become a student of a destination culture. What’s more, students learn how to enter that culture and begin ministry there. Presenters teach both practical and theoretical tools Taught at the Center for Intercultural Training in North Carolina by international trainer Dr. Richard Lewis, the course will take place from August 9-31, 2001. To register or for more information, write citinfoatcompuservedotcom  (citinfoatcompuservedotcom)   or call toll-free (in the USA or via Net2Phone) 800-887-1786 or visit http://www.citi.org.

not symbolPLEASE DON’T SUBSCRIBE US TO YOUR LIST — It’s always better to ask before manually force-adding anyone to your list-serve or mailing list. Recently, tons of well-meaning people have been subscribing Doug to their lists. Since he often travels overseas, he doesn’t join many of those, for obvious reasons (like being charged big-time for overseas access). So as a general rule, please don’t bulk-mail us! See the note above if you’d like to submit items for Brigada Today. Thanks for understanding. Bottom line: We will never create Brigada Today items from bulk mail. Bulk mail gets deleted immediately — sorry. Nothing personal. We suggest you apply the same standard to everyone. Ask first!

OPCWARNING ABOUT FORWARDING EMAILS — Please, before forwarding any kind of request (even if it says “please send this to all your friends”), please check to make sure it has a VERIFIABLE ORIGIN, a VERIFIABLE PURPOSE, and a VERIFIABLE CLOSURE (OPC). By following this simple approach, many “email viruses” could be nipped in the bud… at least in the Brigada family. More information about the full Brigada OPC protocol is available. Thank you.
