  1. SO WHY THE BACK DATE??? — So why in the *world* are Brigada Today editions dated, in many instances, in the past? Think of it this way. It’s kind of like getting those National Geographic magazines, when you live overseas. You know… the ones your Uncle Fred mails to you. By the time you get them, the date is sometimes 3 or 4 weeks past… (Unfortunately, sometimes we get behind. :-( ) But the great thing is, if you’re saving the whole set, they’ll eventually all be there for the whole year! :

  2. TRACTS ABOUT THE TRAGEDIES OF SEPT. 11 — Get the free listing by sending a blank email to <tracts-9-11atbrigadadotorg>. (Note that this address is slightly different than the one originally published, which began with the *number* and didn’t work on our new mail server.) </tracts-9-11atbrigadadotorg>

  3. DID YOU KNOW… (FACTS ABOUT UNREACHED PEOPLES) — Did you know that if you add up the population of all the world’s people groups with populations less than 10,000, you get a total of less than 20 million? (lots of groups, not so many people) …And that the total living in groups considered “least reached” (no church of 100 worshipping in their midst) is less than 6 million? …And that the original Joshua Project 2000 list (released at “The Launch” in Colorado Springs in November of ’95) con

(We culled these and other facts from a couple of very helpful exchanges with Dan Scribner, the “stats guru” from the JP 2000 list since its inception. He was kind enough to answer several key questions about the new Joshua Project thrust. See more at http://www.joshuaproject.net/ Thanks Dan!)

  4. INTERESTED IN THE HISTORY OF THE SPANISH BIBLE? — Jon wanted this information for his Bible Institute class, and found it hard to come by. Some sleuthing on the web turned up what he needed, but you could save yourself the digging by writing him and requesting the info in Spanish or English. <jonekbladatwritemedotcom> </jonekbladatwritemedotcom>

  5. COME TO THE WORSHIP NETWORK AT HOPE 21 — The first meeting of the “Worship Network” will be at the upcoming HOPE 21 conference, a major pan-European conference for evangelicals taking place in Budapest, Hungary, April 27-May 1, 2002. HOPE 21 purposes to “impart a fresh sense of vision, hope and responsibility towards the re-evangelization of Europe”. Go to be strengthened and encouraged, network, plan. For more information on plenary sessions, and registration details contact Dave

  6. SHORT-TERM MISSIONS WEBSITE – Check out http://www.ShortTermMissions.com which seeks to help people connect with short-term mission opportunities. Now in its second year, the website has grown to 37 organizations listing *complete details* on hundreds of opportunities ranging in length from 1 week to 3 years. Some of the organizations listed include: Operation Mobilization, Pioneers, Teen Missions, Royal Servants and International Teams.

If you plan to participate in a mission trip this summer, you’d better hurry – application deadlines are approaching quickly! Explore the possibilities at http://www.ShortTermMissions.com/search/ .

  7. WHERE CAN ONE BUY DEHYDRATED GRAPEJUICE? — Now before you go thinking that we’ve died on the vine [wah-cah-wah-cah! :-)], keep in mind that some don’t like to use grape Kool-Aid for communion. So, if you’ve got a secret source for real live grape juice, send it to Lee <higtacatjunodotcom> who will collect sources, send us the compilation, then we’ll make it available to all. Thanks! </higtacatjunodotcom>

  8. COLUMBIA’S INSTITUTE OF MUSLIM STUDIES — Slated for July 8-August 2, Columbia International University will host an Institute for Islamic studies designed for field worker candidates, workers on home leave, professional tentmakers in a Muslim country, pastors in an area where there is a growing number of Muslims, and students sensing God’s call to Muslim ministry. The 4 weekly subjects include: Introduction to Islam; Revelation, Qur’an and Muslim Traditions, Folk Islam; and Approaches to Islam

  9. RESOURCES FOR LEARNING ABOUT AFGHANISTAN — The U.N. has a web site on humanitarian crises, for areas of the world. Lots of up to date info. http://www.reliefweb.int . There’s auto email access; but use discernment. Mission Network News every day on the radio is a super missions vision builder. They might have a radio log on the web site. You can search the archives, i.e. Afghanistan, http://www.gospelcom.net/mnn or search there for talking tracts for Afghanistan.

1) NEED ANONYMOUS WEBMAIL? — Now you can get it . . . and the staff people are folks you can trust. The leadership at Global Resources for Computing (GRC) actually hails from MAF’s old “xc.org” legacy. Down through the past few years, these are the same guys that have consistently tried to fuel information technology for global missions. Now working under the banner of GRC, they’ve set up a SSL (Secure) Webmail service to beat the band. It’s anonymous — meaning that you could use it for sensitive messages, where higher standards of security are required. This new service will offer SSL Based Webmail, POP3 and IMAP services. The service is due to roll out April 20th, 2002. Currently GRC is accepting applications for Beta Testers to test the new service in field type use. There is no charge for the beta testers to use the service during the beta testing period (Mar 12 – Apr 18th). If you or your organization is interested in Beta Testing this new service, please contact GRC at (909) 795-3877 or FAX (909) 795-0327 or email <infoatgrcomputingdotnet>. This offer is open to individuals and organizations involved in non-profit humanitarian organizations, or faith based ministries. GRC will be offering the service on a monthly subscription basis. The fees will be affordable for individuals and there will be price breaks for multiple addresses or corporate users. Read more at http://www.grcomputing.net</infoatgrcomputingdotnet>

9) TRAIN IN PRIMARY HEALTH CARE — Lifewater International (on the web at:

http://www.lifewater.org )

will be holding “Participatory Hygiene Education Training” seminars in April and July 2002. The seminars are specifically designed to give short-term Christian workers an alternative to traditional missions trips focused on curative medical clinics. Short-term overseas medical clinics typically focus on western style curative care without addressing the root causes of disease. Participatory Hygiene Education involves people in the local community in the process of determining their health problems, how to prevent them and how to train others in the process. Based on Medical Ambassadors International Community Health Evangelism program, Lifewater’s hygiene training program integrates scriptural and physical principles to address the cycle of disease and death related to water, sanitation and hygiene practices. For more information or for a registration packet, contact Trudy at Lifewater. 1-888-543-3426 or 1-805-772-0600 or email <trudyatlifewaterdotorg>. The April class will be held in California and the July class will be held in Texas. Registration deadline for the April class is </trudyatlifewaterdotorg>April 1, 2002.

10) SCHOOL OF FRONTIER MISSIONS IN SOUTH ASIA — Do you have a heart for the unreached in South Asia? The YWAM Frontier Missions Centre of South Asia is hosting it’s next School of Frontier Missions from July 1, 2002 – September 20, 2002. This school is addressing the challenge of reaching the 4,500+ unreached people groups in South Asia by training and equipping people to join teams. In this school you will learn practical skills and attitudes necessary to effectively see a church plant movement among an unreached people group. Course topics are taught by experienced South Asian and international speakers. A two year internship working among an unreached people group will follow the 12-week classroom phase. 11) STATS NEEDED: % GOING TO THE UNREACHED — One of Caleb Project’s hallmarks has been the “World-View Demonstration,” a skit which uses volunteers to illustrate demographics such as world religions, level of gospel-reachedness, and missionary sending. Nate Wilson is helping with a revision of this demonstration to update the statistics from the time the skit was developed twenty years ago, and is looking for current documentation which could substantiate (or update) the statistic of one out of ten missionaries going to the unreached part of the world. Can you help him find up-to-date documentation on what percentage of foreign missionaries are sent to unreached parts of the world? Send Nate an email if you have information for him: <nwilsonatcprojectdotcom>, and yes, Nate will get back with us when he has his answer!</nwilsonatcprojectdotcom>

The book, called Pathfinders, contains 12 short biographies of American who changed the way we live. Each reading lesson also includes related questions and activities.
