  1. FREE TENTMAKING SEMINAR IN TORONTO — On 27 SEP, 2003, the Canadian Tentmaker Network (CTN) & GLOBAL Opportunities join forces to run a half day tentmaking seminar at Tyndale University College & Seminary in Toronto Ontario Canada. This fast-paced four-session seminar continues to be well attended and many have been inspired to use their professional skills to go where His name has not been heard. For more information see http://www.tentmakernet.com/canada and http://www.globalopps.org To register go directly to http://www.globalopps.org/seminar/index.htm

  2. SEE A GREAT RESPONSE TO THE “TIME” ARTICLE — Did you hear about the _Time Magazine_ article, “Should Christians Convert Muslims?” See the original story at http://www.time.com/time/covers/1101030630/story.html See a great response to it at: http://www.globalopps.org/time.htm

  3. HERE’S A SPOT FOR USED CHOIR ROBES — Is your choir upgrading robes? Wondering what to do with the old ones? Here’s an option. An expanding Bible training center in the Middle East is multiplying schools throughout the M.E. and Horn of Africa. They need choir robes to use as gowns for graduation ceremonies for four schools [so far]! 250 robes are needed this year! Contact Rella at rurella@myrealbox.com

  4. NEW BOOK DEVOTES ALL PROFITS TO MISSIONS — All profits from the new book, “Day By Day The Jesus Way,” will be devoted to missions and evangelizing projects. If a missionary recommends the book to his/her supporters, all profits from those sales will be donated to the missionary’s tax-deductible support. This book is for anyone who loves Jesus. But it’s also for the curious, even the cynic or the doubter who wants to check it out for himself. It urges us: Don’t be content to just know about Jesus like someone who might have read all about your mother but never met her. Know Jesus personally, heart to heart, face to face. That is what Christianity is really all about.

  5. REALLY CHEAP CALLS TO CHINA — For those needing to call China from the USA, check out the following cyber calling card from Happy Calling: http://happycalling.com/home-en/

In fact, another user recommended this site too: http://www.onesuite.com/

At the first site, using the AsiaLink card nets you a rate of 4.8 cents a minute with no connection charge. You simply purchase the card online using the site’s secure server and you are sent a toll-free number and personal pin number. It’s easy to use and very dependable. Cyber cards are $21.50 for 440 minutes to China with return users getting a 5% discount. At the second site, the card functions as a rechargeable phone card, with some added enhancements. According to the vendor, compared with country-specific calling cards, you get better call quality, reliability and service. 6. FIGHTING SPAM: THE CONTINUING SAGA — An employee of an Internet provider (“Randy”) wrote recently to warn us not to use the “mail bounce” feature of spam programs such as MailWasher. First, for his part, he doubted its effectiveness. He felt that since 99% of spam messages come with fake (spoofed) “From:” addresses, the returned message almost never goes to the sender or his ISP. Secondly, Randy feels that spammers don’t care if you don’t want their mail or if your address appears not to work. Thirdly, Randy has observed that bouncing- back mail just clogs up the Internet and mail servers. And last, Randy said that since the mail is bounced to a sender that doesn’t exist, it will probably bounce back to your own ISP who doesn’t need more mail either. Still, having digested everything Randy wrote, I’ll have to admit… there’s something about using MailWasher’s “Mail Bounce” feature that I like. I think it’s because it gives me the perception of power. :-) Even if I’m doing no good at all, it still feels like I’m taking *some* kind of action against the spammers littering my mailbox. What’s more, now that I’ve used MailWasher for a few weeks, some of the spam I receive is now automatically flagged as “black-listed”. You’ll have to decide whether or not you want to use the “mail bounce”. As for me, I’m still loving it. :-) Randy, I hope you’ll forgive me. :-)

  7. PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS IN PAPUA NEW GUINEA — Christian Leaders’ Training College (CLTC) in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea has a small 2 classroom International Primary School requiring 2 primary school teachers to begin at the end of January 2004 for a 2 year term. The school uses an excellent New Zealand / Australian based curriculum and most of the teachers over the past 10 years have been from New Zealand. The diverse group of students (Grade 1 – 6) come from Australia, New Zealand, USA, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and India. Most of the parents of these children work or study at CLTC. You can live in a secure area with village people living all around, many of whom are almost unchanged by modern society. There is some financial support available to meet travel and living costs. For more information contact the current Head Teacher, Paul prshelling@cltc.ac.pg

  8. PLAXO AND SECURITY — Paul, the Information Technology officer for AIM Int’l, recently wrote to Brigada, warning participants not to use Plaxo. He’s a man after my own heart. “…Perhaps you have signed up with Plaxo and been pleased to get a lot of updated info about your contacts. It is important that everyone is aware of the security problem.” Paul went on to express his theory that Plaxo could someday become the target of hackers in search of marketing information or other data. He also wondered if Plaxo would someday be purchased by an organization with motives different than the current owners. He concluded, “…Consequently if you use Plaxo and your contact list contains details of people working in certain sensitive locations there is an appreciable risk of those details falling into the wrong hands and presenting a danger to those people. It is a shame that a potentially useful tool presents such a risk but if you are concerned for the security of certain people on your contact list you would be well advised not to use Plaxo. We need to take care not to put each other at risk.” Not to mention that some of us just don’t like being “pinged”. :-) (Thanks Paul!)

  9. ROOM AT THE INN…AND “FORT WILDERNESS” — Here’s a luxury cabin described as “Elegance and the Wild West” on a ranch in the Rockies near Colorado Springs with openings yet for this Fall. Missionaries, workers, pastors, … they’re all welcome. Sized for couples and small families, a modest donation is appreciated. The Fort is really a trapper’s cabin a short hike away. Perfect for reflection, praying, Wild-at-Hearting, Dad-son adventure, etc. No cost. For more info, see http://www.myransomedheart.com/windmillranch

  10. UNREACHED PEOPLES CONFERENCE — For those interested in reaching the unreached peoples of the world: there will be a conference held from November 9th to the 14th. The Revolution conference is an interdenominational, inter-organizational missions conference. Groups such as New Tribes Missions, Red Sea Team International, Pioneers, Frontiers, YWAM, Operation Mobilization, Calvary International, Wycliffe, and many more will be represented for this “10/40-focused” event. The goal is to get the word out about the needs in the 10/40 Window and to provide a place for those working there to meet and share their experiences. There will be speakers, workshops, booths, and time just to fellowship with those who share a similar heart. The conference will be held in Talladega, Alabama. The cost is $195 (US) per person. If you would like more information or an application, contact Jose myglobito@yahoo.com or call 904-221-0114 and ask for Jose.
