In this issue…

1) Train In Microfinance And Microenterprise Development

For those ministering to the poor in Africa, Asia and Latin America, the Chalmers Center offers a series of three distance courses on conducting Christian microfinance and microenterprise. The initial course is called Foundations and Principles of Holistic Ministry (International Ministry Track). The Foundations course helps you understand appropriate goals and strategies for conducting Christian economic development in poor communities. The next instance of this course will take place February 2 – 27, 2009. To register or learn more about distance learning courses at Chalmers, or for information about group and indigenous discounts, visit

http://www.chalmers.org/

Chalmers has been a strong partner to Brigada. Please tell them you see their items in Brigada Today. Thanks.

3) Dts:Be Discipled To Reach The Nations

Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in Lebanon, PA, USA desires to equip, train, and challenge students to reach the unreached! They are offering a Discipleship Training School (DTS) to help students grow in their faith and equip them to reach the nations with the Gospel. The school includes a 12-week lecture phase, including topics such as hearing God’s voice, spiritual warfare, and the character of God, and a 2-month foreign outreach. Better act fast though. The dates of the school are January 5-May 27, 2009. More information and/or an application can be found online at:

http://www.ywampa.org/

or email

or phone: 717.274.9010.

4) Contributing To Brigada? Increase Your Readability

Got an item you’d like to see featured in Brigada Today? It’s easy — and it’s free. Just click to:

http://www.brigada.org/

and see the menu item up top, “Submit an item.” Please note these often-missed mistakes:
*** You no longer have to encode email addresses. We use graphic “pictures” of your email address now, so spammer-harvesters can’t recognize your email address.
*** Please don’t use 1st person (like “I” or “we”) in your item. Write as if someone else is talking about your ministry or opportunity.
*** Please send your item in at least a month or 2 before your event. We often have a queue of items that will need to be featured before yours.
*** Do sponsored items appear first? Well, (with the exception of fund-raisers) we feature everybody — for free. But we’re human. If somebody sends in a gift, then in the same breath, mentions a workshop or new book, it’ll likely appear up top… and more often than not, sooner than most other items. Like I say, we’re human. :-)

But either way, feel free to try your item. Brigada Today is one of the only places on earth where you’ll get a readership of 10,000 recipients, some of which have been working in missions since the early nineties. *Many* of those 10,000 have been reading our items for years. *None* of those 10,000 subscribers were added by us. They all subscribed (apparently) because they wanted to see this information. And we don’t charge a dime for anything (though donations are warmly … I mean *warmly* received :-) ). And your item gets archived forever. If you don’t believe us, see our back-issues at

http://www.brigada.org/

all the back to January ’95.

5) Make a Memory

Remember those journals at…

http://www.sparrowtracks.etsy.com/

Shawn churns out these one-of-a-kind aged books, as journals. Use them for diaries, record books, or write a new novel! Use them for scrap books… or custom order the book (cover) you want. Back in November, she sold at least 4 books in as many days, just from Brigada readers who saw her site here. They’re fun! … and they’re retro. Like Indiana Jones journals. :-)

7) Get Useful Ideas On Evangelism & Church Planting

Here’s a site where you can pick up useful ideas on what others are doing that maybe you can use or adapt to reach your world. It provides helpful links to resources, tools and information to assist in winning the world for Christ (mostly free or low cost). The Outreach Files is published by Beautiful Feet Task Force and edited by Australian pastor/evangelist Howard Sands. It provides sermon outlines, illustrations and quotes to assist preachers in raising their churches to the challenge of winning their world. It’s a must for every church and mission leader, evangelist and church planter. Archives and subscription at

For email subscription send an email to

Write “SUBSCRIBE” only in the email subject line (without the quotes)

8) Exploring the Land

If you’re searching for that “Exploring the Land” book by Shane Bennett, compiled in the mid-nineties for all the AD2000 & Beyond prayer journeys and vision trips, don’t bother looking at Amazon.com. They’ve got one solitary “hawker” there, offering it for $95. Instead, hop on over to

http://www.calebresources.org/

where a search will turn it up for a more rational $25. Rely on this book any time you want a new team to get an insider’s perspective on the culture of an unreached people group. Using this guide, you can come away with a virtual ethnographic survey of a culture or people.

9) Thanks To Those Who Make Our Work Possible

Recently, we received $50 from missionaries in Ukraine (Thank you!) and $30 from a great friend in Loomis, CA (We appreciate you!). A doctor and his wife from Dallas sent $100. They’re focused on unreached nomadic people groups, praise the Lord. Please join me in giving thanks that they decided to become “True Fans” of Brigada. Thanks, too, for the $20 cash we received from workers in Germany. (We don’t necessarily recommend sending cash in the post, but it’s nice to know that it can still make it safe and sound.) Please pray for the prayer letter they write regularly to raise interest in unreached people groups worldwide. They also drew our attention to

http://en.etnopedia.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

which is a wiki. It’s a great example of a fantastic deployment for the sake of the unreached. Got to hand it to those clever Germans. They also drew attention to Justin Long’s perceptive observations on Orissa at:

http://www.missionmanual.com/wiki/2008_Persecution_in_Orissa%2C_India

10) $11,893.25 On The Way To $17,150

All we need is about $5257. Can you be one of the home stretch “true fans”? Remember “Wilson” in the movie, “CastAway?” Talk about a true fan! :-) His friendship helped Tom Hanks’ character make it through the cast away experience. In the same way, these “true fans” for which Justin Long has called can help Brigada make it through 2008!)
Just click one of the pushbuttons at the right-hand top of the home page… or use the PayPal link on the upper left if you prefer. Remember, even with the PayPal links, you don’t have join PayPal to give through it. Or if you prefer, just send an old-fashioned check payable to Team Expansion to: Team Expansion (Brigada), 13711 Willow Reed Dr., Louisville, KY 40299. (Team Expansion is a 501(c)3 incorporation so for USA citizens, your checks made out to Team Expansion are tax-deductible.) As always, be sure to let us know if you’d like us to promote any particular service or ministry, or if you’d prefer your gift be anonymous. And thank you in advance for helping.

11) The Backpage: Who Will Pick Up The Baton?

This past week, we traveled through a Middle-Eastern country where several workers are being denied renewed visas. In a symbol of continuity during a special sending-off ceremony, one of the long-term veterans there handed a track baton to some newly-arrived workers. But the question remained… From where will those workers come? In countries like these, where Americans, Canadians, and/or Irish are being uninvited, who will take up the torch for the future… to tell the untold story, to disciple new believers, and to connect today with *tomorrow*? Do you have an opinion on how or where we could find new workers? Because… it was the cry of Jesus’ heart in Matt. 9:35-38. Is it the cry of yours?

You can write an opinion by clicking on “Comment” below.

2) Know any good Christian Lawyers?

Save all the jokes. Our attorney friends have heard them all. Anyway, what we’re looking for in this case are practices and/or attorneys who specialize in international law. Please don’t post individual email addresses or phone numbers. (These attorneys are already busy enough without having to handle a new load of spam.) Rather, please list, simply, websites of practices, along with last names of any particular attorneys that have become specialists (if there are any). This item was spawned by workers in Asia that are trying to set up a business as part of a USA-based business. They didn’t know how taxes work between the 2 countries. They pondered, “Surely we do not pay taxes on both sides. Do you know anyone that could and would be interested in helping us make good decisions and to understand the international laws that we have to play by?” Thanks in advance for any referrals you can make. Once again, please remember not to post individual email addresses.
