1) Critical Information for Travelers

morton secureThere is now a free app called Travel Secure by Morton Security Solutions, that gives travelers up to date information on areas of travel, travel alerts and security resources that can be very helpful in avoiding and responding to all types of crises while trekking and working around the world. The app is available on Google Play for Android users and will be available on the Apple Store for iPhones, within the next few weeks. The app pulls feeds from local and global news, government travel alerts and intelligence collected by Morton Security Solutions, providing you with multiple sources of information, critical to operating effectively in a foreign country. 2) Is poor Spanish sufficient for communicating the Gospel?

Spanish / English classThe Roca Blanca Spanish Language School doesn’t think so either! They’ve been helping missionaries and cross-cultural Christians learn to communicate well in Spanish for the last five years from Oaxaca on Mexico’s Pacific coast. Students like the quality curriculum, methodology, and teachers, as well as the reasonable cost, and the great environment, both natural and spiritual, that they live and learn in. Learn more at…

3) Maybe Scribid Isn’t Such a Great Option After All

piracyPart of the magic of Brigada is that we function with a kind of “collective consciousness.” It’s almost like we get to operate with the sum total memory of the entire Brigada family. So we’re glad, for example, when we publish news about an item like Scribid, that participants are willing to speak up. One friend wrote, “I was disappointed to see Brigada mention Scribid. They have been at the center of a copyright war on the Internet. In effect, users upload copyrighted pdfs. Scribd places ads on them and then gets payment so that users can download other people’s works that Scribd doesn’t have the rights to distribute. In other words, Scribd is essentially making money off pirated content. However, in the last couple of months they have tried to cooperate with some book publishers, but to date I don’t know of anyone who has gotten paid through their scheme. (Thanks Roland!) 4) New Mobilization Video: Pray for the Tribal (Ethno-Religious) World

9) A Template for Your Next Cultural Acquisition Program

mexico missionsWorkers at TEAM Mexico have developed a Power Point template that can easily be adapted to create a cultural acquisition program for your new workers. It is especially attractive to the millennial generation because it includes hands-on activities, short videos, and brief articles. The topic of each page (“food,” “holidays,” “courtship and marriage,” “religion,” etc.) stays the same, but you replace the activities and graphics with more culturally appropriate ones. Additional topics are easily added. I’ve been looking this over and it seems to me to have a lot of potential for new workers and their comfort level in the field. 11) How to Avoid Dependency

vulnerable missionsSome missionaries ought to carry out their ministry using local languages and resources, says the AVM (Alliance for Vulnerable Mission). This can help to avoid the creation of unhealthy dependency. The AVM has arranged conferences and consultations in 2015 in the UK and in Germany to further the discussion on vulnerable mission. Their title is: Avoiding Dependency in Global Christian Mission; Vulnerable Mission a potential answer. Learn more by visiting…

12) Learn How To Use Mobile Technology for Your Ministry

cybermissionsfullThe Mobile Ministry Training Course is a newly expanded, six-week online course to introduce ministry opportunities using mobile devices. By 2015, the majority of all Internet access will be through mobile devices. This presents a unique, two-way communication channel to use for Kingdom advancement. The course begins July 8, runs through August 18, and the cost is $55. Each week contains both theoretical and practical elements. The only requirements: an Internet connection, a computer, and a mobile phone (smart-phone or feature phone). This opportunity is offered through Mobile Ministry Forum and course information can be found at:

14) The BackPage: ” We don’t even care whether or not we care”

In the book (and movie), “The Never-Ending Story,” a terrible fate is overtaking all the land. A terrible force called the Nothing is eating up the world. As it consumes, in its place, as you might have guessed, it leaves nothing. Atreyu (and the boy, Bastian) and his faithful companion horse, Artax, have to go on a quest to find a way to conquer the Nothing.

At one point, they meet up with Morla, the ancient turtle (turtles?). Atreyu is pleading for help in understanding how to beat the Nothing. He compels Morla, “If you don’t tell me, and the Nothing keeps coming, you will die too, both of you!” Morla merely replies, “Die? Now that, at least, would be *something*.”

Today, I fear many are losing their joy. They experience such a deep sadness that, without outside help, they would sink into a swamp of sadness (like Artax) unless someone miraculously intervenes.

You know, today it feels like many are vulnerable to the Nothing, metaphorically speaking, of course. Many are susceptible to losing their dream and failing to summons the courage to fight against enemy forces like the Swamp of Sadness, G’mork, and the Nothing.

So, in keeping with the great story by Michael Ende (and the movie too), today we ask the question — how can we beat the apathy and apparent lack of courage that some are manifesting today? Do you see it? How can you imagine that we, like Atreyu, could overcome it and raise up a new wave of passionate heroes who won’t quit until every last unreached people group and city have a valid opportunity to know the Ancient of Days, the creator of the Universe.

What’s your answer?

Click comment after the web version of this item, and, if possible, please draw a few parabolic references to the Never-Ending Story, if you know it. Thanks in advance for your response.
