1) We’re Encouraged and Empowered…

thank-youThrough the kind generosity of literally scores of Brigada readers, partners, and friends, we’re propelled into 2015 with $13,924.33. Although some might be quick to point out that this is short of our total year’s budget of $17,120, we take a lot of heart from this outcome. You see, we send Brigada free of charge each week because, to us, it’s a labor of love. Sure it’s great to have help in paying the bills, but we’re not blind to the fact that our thousands of readers would continue to receive this service even if they sent nothing. So every single dollar is a gift of love — and we promise never to forget that. Besides, just because we won’t ask again until November, it doesn’t stop you from giving toward 2015 — and any gifts after this edition will, by the way, give us a great boost into 2015 budget year. So thank you… and God bless every reader of Brigada!

2) Online Introduction to Missions Course

keyboard typingKingdom Expansion 101 is a convenient and inexpensive six-week user-friendly online course about world evangelization. This fresh and comprehensive class provides an overview of global outreach and how churches and individuals are involved in the Great Commission. Missions team members, short-termers and church leaders have commented on the quality of the variety of articles, videos, PowerPoint presentations, and interaction among the participants. The next class begins January 28. For more information see

and feel free to write to

with specific questions. Several agencies offer the course to their constituents. To learn how your mission organization can do this, write to the email address noted above.

(And thanks to the Kingdom Expansion folks for helping undergird Brigada!)

3) Financial Partnership Development: Fund-raising Made Relational

financial partnershipThe 110-page Financial Partnership Development (FPD) Workbook on fund-raising trains readers how to biblically and practically raise financial support. It combines teaching and guided assignments, and will work equally well for individuals or groups. By the time you’re done, you’ll not only know how to raise support, but also how to minister to financial partners along the way. You can find out more and purchase at…

This creation-to-Christ tool for making the gospel clear to Muslims (along with all who are biblically illiterate) is very close to completion – in English. In addition, language dubs in many languages (beginning with Spanish, French, and Arabic…) will begin next month. A new scene is being uploaded to YouTube every Monday and Friday. Check it out!

13) We’re Grateful…

In Everything Give Thanks - Thumbnail… for the folks at http://transitiontimecoach.com/ who sent $20. They wrote that they could remember all the way back to the second edition of Brigada– and that they had backups on floppy disks. (I’m not joking.) They attached a note, “Blessings and much more in the years ahead! Bravo for sticking with it all these years. It has been a great resource and we have shared it everywhere we’ve gone. I’m still shocked at church mission leaders who haven’t heard off Brigada. To me you are the Encyclopedia of Mission Info and Resources. I love it!” Wow — to us, THEY are the ones who deserve thanks just for putting up with us for 20 years! :-) God bless you and thanks for the kind words!
…for the partners in Adams, TN, who sent $100 this past week.
…and for great friends here in Louisville, KY, who sent $100.
…for $50 from the makers of the Kingdom Expansion 101 course (see above)
…Smithtown, NY, for being the home of a friend who sent $100.
…the Brigada participant in Springfield, MO, who sent $10.
…for the great folks in Roseville, MN, who sent $100.
…for the Christian Ministries International worker who sent $25
… and for the worker with TEAM, www.team.org who sent $100. She wrote this past week, “I’ve appreciated Brigada for many years and am happy that this year I could say “thanks.” Thank YOU!
…and $20 from friends in Charlottesville, VA.
…and $25 from partners in Tecumseh!

14) How do we Reach the So-Called “Failed States?”

refugeesNot that long ago, we had a chance to visit several countries adjoining Somalia. We talked with Somalis who had barely escaped with their lives, some of whom had now become Christians in these adjacent lands. Of course, WITHIN these so-called failed states, trouble and conflict continues to brew. And the people who live there sometimes have few recourses. Could it be that one of the strongest mandates of our day might be to redeem the time in these adjoining republics. Take for example, Tunisia, home today to roughly 1/3 of the world’s Libyans. A friend of mine who is working hard in Tunisia recently wrote, “Given how EXTREMELY hard Libya has been for so long, and how many people this represents, it seems like a miracle we shouldn’t miss.” The same could be said for Syrians fleeing over the border into Jordan. And you could probably name a half-dozen other lands. Shouldn’t the church be prioritizing these powder kegs so that we can make a difference to those enduring such deep turmoil?
