1) What Kind of Impact Can Brigada Have?

For the last 8 weeks of 2015, we’ll be running a series by the title above. If you have a story, answered prayer, opportunity found, or other testimony about Brigada, would you please send it to us by emailing it to
Editoratbrigadadotorg please?
A few years back when fax machines were the primary form for ordering books and maps, one org told us they always made sure they loaded their fax machine full of paper the night before a Brigada item was going to run. If they didn’t, they said they’d come into the office only to find out their fax machine ‘memory’ was maxed out with new orders. Another time, they said the “new fax” bin on their machine had run over with orders, with new orders spilling out all over the floor. Of course, these days, with web forms and emails, we no longer have to worry about bins and paper, thank the Lord. But there are still just as many great resources, opportunities, motivations, trends, and more. Thanks for being a part of Brigada!

3) International Congress on Language Learning

The place is Estes Park, CO. The date and time? April 17 5pm – 21 10am. It’s the International Congress on Language Learning. The theme will be “Spread the Word,” and the group will be looking at how the act of language learning demonstrates Christ and also talking about how to better advocate for and support language learning in missions. There will be academics, training programs, language schools and numerous agencies represented. Will yours be there? Learn more at…

https://www.mti.org/conferences/icll-international-congress-on-language-learning/

4) TESOL Training in Chiang Mai, Thailand

Asia’s Center for TESOL is offering a TESOL training course January 4-February 5, and February 22-March 25. These are intensive, five-week courses leading to a TESOL certificate. For the first three weeks the classes are Monday-Friday, 8-4. For the last two weeks, the classes are 8-12, followed by a two-hour practicum in the afternoon or evening. This totals 120 hours in class and 20 hours of practicum (10 hours observing and 10 hours teaching). Contact Melody for application forms or more information:
infothaiatactesoldotcom or see

http://www.actesol.com

for more prices and other information.

5) CSGC Needs Researchers, Writers, Editors, and Others

The Center for the Study of Global Christianity (CSGC) is well underway in preparing the third edition of the World Christian Encyclopedia (estimated publication 2020, Edinburgh University Press). They are assembling a team of on- and off-site researchers, writers, editors, and others to help with a variety of tasks. Currently they have an urgent need to add to their team two missionary supported positions: a part-time Senior Research Associate to help with denominational data and a part-time desktop publisher for design and layout. For more details, see

http://www.gordonconwell.edu/ockenga/research/Opportunities-Available.cfm

6) Reaching the Hard Places

You are invited to a Hudson Taylor Legacy Series Seminar called “Reaching the Hard Places.” This free seminar will be held at Westminster Bible Chapel, 7540 6th Street, Burnaby, BC on Sat, November 21, 2015 at 7:30 pm. The seminar will address the question, “When do prayer, suffering and intentionality become a missional strategy?” The workshop will focus on this as the answer: When you want to introduce the Kingdom of God in places where it is categorically not welcome. L&D will describe how this has worked out for their team in one of the world’s last remaining communist regimes.

7) How Do You Learn about Global Missions From Your House?

Interested in learning more about Global Missions but don’t have time to go to weekly missions classes or even to log in weekly at a certain time? A new model of self-study courses is being offered by the IMB. The Community Transformation Training overview self-study is available at

http://udemy.com/cttraining/

Community Transformation Training is the wedding of human needs ministries with evangelism and church planting. While this self-study video course is introductory in nature, you will receive enough instruction to perhaps challenge your previous thinking in regards to the way you incorporate human needs strategies with evangelism and church planting.

8) Share your faith: One App, Four Tools, 37 Languages.

There’s a new app available for both IOS and Android. Developed by Cru, God Tools will help you be prepared to share your faith in any
encounter you may have with its offline access feature. Located conveniently on your phone, the app sports four tools that have changed lives all around the globe.
1. The Knowing God Personally Booklet – share the gospel message in four points with diagrams

9) Need a Notary while Overseas? Check THIS out

One of our close friends (and long-time Brigada participant) wrote recently from the Middle East to share that he recently needed to have a form notarized. He used

https://www.notarycam.com/

They will notarize documents for you using your webcam. He said it worked great. The pricing for International customers is much higher than for US though. In his case, he logged in with his org-provided VPN service, using a server in the USA and easily received the US price. Check it out!

11) Mobile Ministry Made Easy

This is a simple guide to begin or advance your use of mobiles. It’s a 40-page guide on how to use your mobile device (phone, tablet, iPod) for ministry. This free resource is now available in Arabic, English, French, Hindi, Korean and Spanish – and a Tagalog version might be available in the not-too-distant future! Work in another language? Hey, more translations are welcome (contact the MMF for details)!

Pick up your free guide here:

http://www.mobileministryforum.org/mobile-ministry-made-easy

While you’re at it, grab a copy of “Your Phone – God’s Glory: A Hands-on Guide to Using Your Mobile for Ministry.” It covers less ground, but goes deeper by offering easy-to-follow tutorials on a few mobile ministry activities. The two guides complement each other well. Get a copy here:

By the way, the MMF is a missions network, not an organization, and they welcome your involvement! While visiting the MMF website, be sure to sign up for their website if you want to stay in the loop on using mobiles for ministry. You can also track with them on Twitter (@mobmin and/or the hashtag #mobmin), Facebook, and even Instagram (MobMinForum).

12) Where do you Turn for Mid-Level Web Hosting?

A missionary wrote recently sharing that his service provider for about 20 years – Dragonnet – was closing down. He shared, “They did such a fine job for us as we grew. … Any suggestions for who can do hosting for mid-size org or company?” Of course, GoDaddy is the benchmark by which all others are measured:

But maybe you don’t like their commercials? : )

What’s YOUR favorite?

14) The BackPage: What’s Your Take on Today’s Christian Colleges?

This past week, we received some fairly disturbing information about a nearby Christian College apparently having to let go of about 1/3 of their faculty and staff. It was particularly poignant because it was in the middle of their fall semester — so it has caused disruption for the morale, let alone for the students who suddenly find their class without a prof. An elder in a nearby local church asked for prayer for all our nation’s Christian colleges. He explained that students are still grieving as the university’s DNA is built around the close proximity of the students with their instructors. He asked for prayer for the schools (“that God is glorified through whatever transitions take place within this university”), the students (“they lack the life experience to deal with these trials efficiently and we need to pray that they do not stumble”), the faculty (“remaining and displaced”), and the trustees (“that they lead to the Holy Spirit’s guidance”). Have you heard of other schools like this one? Check out these stories he shared:
