1) Thanks to Those who Pray and Give…

thank-you…to speed along Brigada from our screens to yours. One gentleman, a worker in Southeast Asia, wrote this past week, “Thanks so much Doug! I pray that God would provide greatly for Brigada and the work that you do. I wish we could have given more to help you get to 100%. I look forward to all the great nuggets of information contained in Brigada. I am always amazed that you are able to generate such great content. I have found so many helpful things on Brigada over the years! Things like insurance, travel tools, great apps, books, websites, blogs, missions video’s and many others. Keep up the great work!” [We appreciate the encouragement, prayers and the financial boost! God bless you!]

This brings total giving during all of 2015 to $11,487, which is simply amazing. AMAZING.

All 2015 gifts must be received no later than Jan. 15, midnight. To join them, just date your check Dec. 31, 2015, and mail, made payable to Team Expansion (Brigada), 13711 Willow Reed Drive, Louisville, KY 40299. Team Expansion is a 501(c)3 incorporation so, for USA citizens, your gift to Christ through Team Expansion is tax-deductible. If you’d rather give online, just click “Donate” in the upper right corner at brigada.org . All online gifts given prior to midnight on Jan. 15 will be counted toward our 2015 fundraising goal of $17,120. We’re 67% there. Only $5633 to go. 56 True Fans of Brigada within the next 7 days — and we’re golden. Or one generous donor with one single gift of $5633 would do it. Please join us in praying. And once again, Thank you.

2) Missionaries and Same-SexMarriage

Same-sex marriage raises both religious and cultural issues for cross-cultural workers. Those issues may be quite different depending on whether or not homosexual behavior is a crime in the host country. This article provides information to help such workers consider the issues they face as they decide what to do, and it can be downloaded as a pdf and printed to distribute to others. In addition, this website has aritcles about more than 100 other issues as well as 16 books available to download free of charge as .doc, .pdf, or .zip files for your computer and as .mobi or .epub files for your Kindle or Nook.

3) Why Are There So Many Lame Prayer Videos?

We’re on the edge of our seat because a team in North Africa is wrapping up their research project on unengaged unreached people groups there. They’ve already won a grant to fund the development of great videos that would mobilize prayer and workers for harvest among these groups. So they’re wondering: What makes a great prayer video? What makes your org decide to use it to mobilize workers for a people group? Please share links, opinions, contact information, and samples of great videos. Just click “Comment” following the web version of this item please. Thanks!

4) Christmas-themed Redemption Stories

Illustration of Merry Christmass in many languages

This past week, thanks to a tip from a great donor, we discovered some amazing Christmas-themed redemptive short stories by Jon Lewis. He wrote them for his family, to be read each year on Christmas Day. “Invariably the adventures are written in the context and culture of an area somewhere in the world that Jon has visited in his ministry years with MAF and Partners International. Even Timbuktu! They are richly told and full of suspense. Each is a treasure!”

5) Check out the Special Missionary Training Directory Today!

The Evangelical Training Directory at

http://www.etdi.org

is endorsed by the World Evangelical Alliance as a central database of evangelical training worldwide. If anyone has training that they would like people to know about, they can register on the site and then list their training for the whole world to see! (Thanks for the tip, Ian, who, this past week, helped empower Brigada for 2016! We appreciate you!)

6) Curious about Inflation? Need Fodder to Request a Raise?

If you’ve wondered how you might objectively ask for a raise, wonder no more. Click on over to…

http://www.govexec.com/pay-benefits/2015/10/no-cola-retirees-2016/122835/

and

http://www.tradingeconomics.com/country-list/inflation-rate

where you’ll find great stats, charts, and graphs about inflation and its effects on your particular land. Some lands, like the USA, have seen little to know inflation this past year. (So sorry — no raise in sight.) Others, meanwhile, have seen double-digit horrible increases in the pricing for everything from gasoline, bread and electricity. Check it out for YOUR land.

7) Retreats for Global Women

retreat-sponsorWomen who work cross-culturally should be thriving, not just surviving.
Thrive Ministry offers refreshing four-day retreats for North American women who serve cross-culturally. The retreats provide a safe place for global workers to be themselves and share their unique challenges outside of their churches and agencies. Retreats are hosted at conference centers and hotels to provide an environment for physical, spiritual, and emotional renewal.

Each retreat features self-care options, fellowship with 50+ other women working cross-culturally, worship, Bible teaching, laughter, and deeper connections in discussion groups. The cost to global women is $125 registration fee and transportation to and from the retreat-we take care of the rest. For more information visit

http://www.thriveministry.org

Check out the resources available to global women at

http://www.thriveconnection.com

Upcoming retreat locations include
Sharjah/Dubai UAE in February
Fortaleza, Brazil in April
Beaver Creek, Colorado in July

8) Free Outreach Websites for those Who Care About Muslims

Muslim-Women-PrayingGlobal Radio Outreach is offering outreach websites, custom Internet radio stations and email hosting for ministries with outreaches to Muslims. They offer their own customizable software for sites which include blogging and much more. The sites are hosted for free on G.R.O.’s servers. They will also host the Internet radio stations. You may use one of their already existing stations or they will help you customize your own based on your material and material collected in G.R.O.’s servers. They will also host your email using your domain on their mail server. They also will help you get started using Google AdWords and/or Facebook to promote your site and station among your target audience.

They are looking forward to the broadest participation possible, because the more that participate, the more recorded material will be available for your ministry on the sites and stations. And it will also mean that your program or material will get more exposure on other stations, enhancing your chances for success in reaching and discipling Muslims.

10) Thanks so STM Toolbox for the Shout-out!

We appreciate our friends at STM Toolbox, who wrote this past week, “For years, we have all benefited from Brigada. Thanks to insightful perseverance of a few, we all have access to the latest info, tips and mission insights delivered right to our inbox. In fact, it was the helpful material in Brigada that partly inspired the creation of STM Toolbox as a resource to Christian non-profits for effective short term mission planning. Did you know that the STM Toolbox mobile app features the most current issue of Brigada? It’s free for the download. Learn more about the app. at …

They also included a PS in their shout-out: “When you get inspired by Brigada, don’t forget to return the blessing. This free-to-you service is funded by donations on a frugal budget of about 17k per year.”

11) Webinar on Recruiting Long-Termers

missionexus_tag_rgb_hDo you want to help mobilize more long-term missionaries? The results from this recent survey of 466 long-term missionaries from 46 agencies shows how to launch more people into international missions by identifying positive launch factors as well as hindrances to overcome. These insights help recruiters recognize their own blind spots and be more effective mobilizers. Factors and hindrances are presented for three generations: Millennials, Gen Xers, and Boomers. Additional survey results and discussion show:

*** How many rated the mobilizer helpful and why
*** How they discovered the agency they joined
*** Life stages most significant in deciding to go

The webinar by missions mobilizers Don Parrott and John McVay will be January 21 from 2:00pm to 3:15pm Eastern time. To register visit

14) The BackPage: “The Straight Path” — Jesus in the Qur’an?

straight_pathThis past week, I came across a chart showing how the Qur’an and the Bible both point toward the coming of Jesus as the Anointed one. I can’t find a LOT about this concept, but the best resource I’ve seen on it so far comes from…

http://thekingdomconversation.com/

along with a summary article at…

http://www.missionfrontiers.org/issue/article/guide-muslims-to-the-bible

My sense is that this approach might be controversial for some (those who fear that prompting any Muslim to spend more time in the Qur’an is a mistake?), but what I’m looking for is — a) What kind of experience do you have with this approach? and b) How have Muslims responded to it, in your case studies? Finally, c) What additional resources have you used or have you heard about that can guide a person in understanding this approach?

If you would be so kind as to click “Comment” following the web version of this item, I’d love for us to explore the use of this approach with a view toward fashioning an understanding of it with our Muslim neighbors today. Thanks in advance for any time you can invest.
