1) Last Brigada Edition of the 2016: $7330 to go; Can you help?

(Yes, sometimes we finish up the previous year’s Brigada editions even though the new year has started. Please forgive the crazy practice.)
Is God prompting you to help with the last few remaining Brigada expenses as we begin the new year? This is the final week to do so. Our goal is $17,000 — enough to cover light marketing costs, pay for servers, website, and email handling services, and pay a part-time assistant to help with communications and publishing. Gifts have been strong — and we’re thankful for that. Thanks to the gifts below, we now stand at $9669.15 for the year. But as great as that is, it’s still short of the annual need by $7330. To partner with Brigada to completely underwrite the remaining budget, we would only need 73 “true fans” of Brigada each to send a gift of $100. Would you be willing to step up to the plate to make that happen? If you can help, just click “Donate” at www.brigada.org, or mail a check payable to Team Expansion (Brigada), 13711 Willow Reed Drive, Louisville, KY 40299. Team Expansion is a 501(c)3 incorporation so, for USA citizens, your gift to Christ through Team Expansion is tax-deductible. Although we might not be able to include your gift receipt with 2016 giving, you’ll still know that you helped Brigada cross the goal for the campaign. And for that, we’d be very grateful. Thank you, in advance, for your partnership!

4) 30 Days of Prayer for the Muslim World, 2017-style

I can ALMOST remember the very first year for the 30 Days Campaign. I think I actually might have gotten involved in 1995. What can you recall about the initiative? What does it mean to you today? It’s time to pick up the torch again. Find the 2017 adult version here…

6) Need Help Creating a Ministry Website?

Faithe, a long-time Brigada reader and former missionary, has been helping others create a web presence since 1998. She is offering a discounted rate (80% off) on websites (including domain name and hosting) for Brigada readers (limited to 5/month). She also trains you how to maintain it yourself. If your ministry (even closed country) needs a website, be sure to check it out:

7) Global City Mission Releases Mosaic

“Mosaic” is “A Ministry Handbook for a Globalizing World to help ministry leaders to explore cross-cultural outreach in their city.” Now, as a new training resource, Mosaic should provide practical guidance for engaging diverse communities. This book may serve as a kind of “crash course” for cross-cultural engagement, and it will be a helpful resource to equip ministry leaders to encounter the various cultures within their community. 8) What kind of emergency evacuation plan should You Select?

What is “evacuation-only insurance?” Who should select an emergency evacuation-only plan? Sometimes these limited plans are not any cheaper than a regular travel policy although they will bring you to the hospital of your choice in the USA or your home country if you are on Medicare, a medical “share-plan,” or have nationalized health coverage.

10) Check out Brigada Archives

Have you ever browsed through Brigada’s archives? Did you know there are weekly editions for virtually every week since January 1995? Imagine being able to search through 22 years of history with the blink of an eye! : ) To see what’s there, just go to:

www.brigada.org

Just start exploring on the lower right and you can choose any month of any year back through 1995. Or use the “tag cloud” to check for common topics (bigger words mean the topic was mentioned more often). Or use the Google-powered site-specific search box at the top of any edition to find needle-in-a-haystack ideas across the entire 22 years and get lightning-quick results. Search for any idea in an instant.

12) Upcoming 2017 Support-raising Solutions Bootcamps

13) We’re Grateful for…

…$40 from a true prayer warrior for Indonesia
…$100 from Scriptures in Use
…$100 from a long-time missionary to Africa
…$20 from North Little Rock, Arkansas
…$100 from the Center for Intercultural Training in North Carolina
…$100 from long-time missionaries in the Balkans and great friends of Brigada.
And for all those who have given throughout the year to help illuminate unreached peoples, ways and means of reaching them, along with resources, trends, and news that we hope make it easier to travel and serve cross-culturally.

14) The Last Bit: What are the Biggest Trends in Missions for 2017?

As we end 2016 and turn the corner into 2017, what do you think are the biggest trends in missions and cross-cultural work today? Would it be…
*** The fact that software programs like ParaText, along with new crowd-based strategies in translation will likely make it possible that either you or your children will likely see the last Bible translation for those who need it. Keep in mind, missionaries have been working for centuries to make sure the Bible is available in every heart language. Imagine the excitement over the fact that the job will be DONE!

*** Missionaries sent by previous missionary-receiving lands. More and more, teams are blended, internationally. Global South workers are hopping to other Global South mission destinations, and sometimes even doing “reverse missions” (bringing renewed faith, vision, and prayer focus to traditional sending lands).

*** Outreach to migrants. Could 2017 be the year that we finally start “getting it right?” Some are saying that as many as 1 out of 8 people in the world are part of the huge waves of diaspora. Will we finally make an impact this year?

*** The growth of violent encounters, global threats, and security risks for cross-cultural workers. Don’t get me wrong. The risks have always been there. But, is it just my imagination, or have radicalized elements made it just a tad bit more hair-raising for some of our workers during 2016 than in a generation or two prior? Please tell us if we need a bigger context here.

What other trends do YOU see? What’s next in 2017 in YOUR opinion?
