1) Why Make a Year-End Gift to Brigada

A Brigada participant named Ray put it this way this past week: “I’m giving to Brigada because you are involved in bringing the number of unreached and unengaged people groups to zero. You provide information and encouragement that no one else does.” God bless you! This brings our annual total to $1055.33, with just $6944.67 to go to reach our annual budget. Somewhere, there’s a believer with the capacity to write a check for $5000. Others might only be able to give $50. Would you or your church be able to pitch in $100 or $1000 or ANY amount toward the final stretch? If so, please just click “Donate” at www.brigada.org, or mail a check payable to Team Expansion (Brigada), 13711 Willow Reed Drive, Louisville, KY 40299. Team Expansion is a 501(c)3 incorporation so, for USA citizens, your gift to Christ by writing a check to Team Expansion is tax-deductible. Thank you, in advance, for your partnership!

2) Transform your smartphone or tablet into a Global-MIS

In this case, “MIS” stands for Ministry Info System. And now you can do that for 60& off in what the iLS store is calling a Brigada Christmas Special by purchasing one or more Global-MIS eTool sets for just $59, saving $91 over the retail price. The set of 10 Quick Reference eTools contains 5 Country eTools with 14,000 pages of data & 5 Language eTools with another 14,000 pages covering the 7,099 living languages of the world. Quickly find the language location, pop., major religion & Scripture status. Learn more and see it in action at…

3) Do You or Does Your Church Need Help Managing Mission Trips?

If so, maybe “Focus Missions” is for you. They provide enterprise level mission trip management, helping you find and book airfares, sign travel documents, fundraise, communicate with your short-term teams, obtain background checks, automate application work flows, verify references, AND track finances to the tiniest detail. Check them out at…

http://www.focusministry.com/missions/

For all these services, they receive $20/month per active trip (a trip that is accepting applications, payments or traveling).

4) Legacy Conference Will Inspire You To Reach Muslims (36% off)

Sponsored by Horizons International, Legacy conference is a bi-annual gathering that promotes biblically sound mission principles and understanding of how to spread the Gospel message among Muslims. It provides comprehensive and critical insight valuable to missionaries, field workers, and home churches around the world. The upcoming 2018 conference will feature a distinguished line-up of plenary speakers, extensive breakout sessions, and Q&A opportunities. Register now for a 37% discount off the full price of admission! Legacy 2018 will equip you with practical tools and knowledge to bring Liberty to the Captives.

5) Is There a Special Bible Highlighting Global Discipleship?

This past week, a Brigada participant asked if there existed “a Bible published or in the works that highlights global discipleship, unreached people groups, and the persecuted church? It sounded like a great idea, but we couldn’t remember hearing of any. Have you? If you know of something that might work, please click “Comment” after the web version of this item. Thanks so much!

6) When We Mentioned Donor/Fundraising Software Recently…

One Brigada participant pointed us to…

https://bloomerang.co/

You can see their demonstration video here (without having to sign up for their mailing list)…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDfvCGO2eEg&feature=youtu.be

The software does seem very modern. Bulk emailing is built-in, along with letter-writing campaign capabilities. They also have quite a focus on social media AND it looks like they might have apps for other devices (although I couldn’t find any sign of an app in my searches). Pricing is strong, but probably not unreasonable for what it appears to do. Anyone else have any experience with this package?
(Thanks for the tip, Cameron).

7) If You Make Lots of Phone Calls, You Probably Use Earbuds?

Obviously, the easiest approach is to use the earbuds or headset provided by your phone manufacturer. It’s readily available — and free (assuming something came with your phone, that is). But if you’ve decided to upgrade, because you’re constantly talking to donors, partners, friends, and teammates (both at home and abroad), then maybe you’ve looked at options. Some people prefer something that gets the microphone positioned in the right place (without having to hold the cord in front of your mouth manually). Some have grown weary of tangled cords and snagging cables, so they’ve decided to go wireless. It’s a fairly hot market right now, especially with the advent last year of Apples wireless option — the Airpods. Airpods virtually spawned an entirely new product category (the “truly wireless earbud”). Several manufacturers have released versions, including Bose, Sony, JBL, Jabra, and others. Got a favorite? We tried out several models — and it seems like none is perfect. We’re currently hanging with the Jabra Elite Sport “truly wireless.” They’re seemingly at the lower end of the “true wireless” pricing spectrum, while still offering decent battery life, great sound, fairly compact charging case, AND they also offer some special features — like pulse/workout tracking and they even play some of the speaker’s own voice back through the monitor speaker so the speaker won’t feel “separated” from his own voice (as sometimes happens on these in-ear units). They don’t have active noise-canceling, but few units in this category do (and the ones that offer it don’t seem to work very well). Your thoughts? Where have you ended up for a headset? If you’ve got an opinion, please click “Comment” following the web version of this item.

8) What’s Your Experience So Far with the New Brigada App?

Have you had a chance to download and try out the new Brigada app yet? It’s available for iOS and Android. (In iOS, search the App store for “Brigada News” to find it more easily; On Android, searching for just “Brigada” does the trick.) You get offline browsing for the editions you’ve looked at in the app online. The search tool works great and everything just feels responsive and easy. What’s your take so far? Just click “Comment” in the web version (or use the in-app commenting feature to respond). Thanks for any input. You won’t hurt our feelings if you have input — but we might not be able to afford the programming costs for every idea right away. : )

9) Can’t Wait for Zume’s Foreign Language Editions

If you’ve been following Zume, you’re probably as excited as we are about its potential. See the introductory video and landing page at…

http://www.ZumeProject.com

but also see the Frequently asked Questions at…

https://zumeproject.com/wp-content/uploads/886587b54605442ae6356261355f9c78-1.pdf

Frankly, we can’t wait for the foreign language translations to be done. Zume will soon (end of 2018?) be available in 34 languages, including Arabic, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Burmese, Chinese (Mandarin), Chinese (Cantonese), Farsi, French, German, Gujarati, Hausa, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Kannada, Korean, Maithili, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Panjabi (Eastern), Panjabi (Western), Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swahili, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Turkish, Urdu,
Vietnamese, and Yoruba. I happen to be facilitating the Zume group with the French translator taking part (so she can get the big picture before she starts her work). It’s been so fun watching her catch the vision and see the potential for the 220 to 300 million French speakers worldwide. She’s on fire! Lord willing, she’ll be completely done with the translation by end of March — and the final product will hopefully be done shortly thereafter. If you haven’t gone through Zume yet, … have you been on Mars or something? : )

10) Has Anyone Written a Book or Project on Internationalizing?

Over the past 20 years, we’ve seen multiple organizations “internationalize,” either by adding international offices, or building partnerships with affiliates, or at least by adding members to their teams from Global South lands. Anyone have a reading list on how to maximize the effectiveness of those transitions? We’re aware of works like The Beauty of Partnership…

http://beautyofpartnership.org/

which is more of a skill/culture builder, but are there works written up for agencies and churches who want to internationalize their staffs and/or infrastructure? If you know of one and could point us that direction click “Comment” after the web version of this item. And thanks in advance for any help.

11) Bible-reading Plans in Cantonese and Burmese

Looking for Bible-reading plans in Cantonese and Burmese?

These plans can help new believers as well as experienced disciples. (Thanks for the tip, Dee Ann!)

12) How to Send Monthly Automatic Payments to Receive Donations in UK

This past week, we received an inquiry from a mission recruit joining an agency in UK that doesn’t have a centralized support-receiving system. This recruit was curious as to how to allow donors in Europe and North America to send gifts (especially monthly automatic payment gifts) that could be received in the UK. Can anyone make any recommendations for such a situation? If so, please click “Comment” following the web version of this item. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

13) We’re Grateful for…

…the $100 gift from a True Fan of Brigada working in Southeast Asia. We appreciate your gift and your life of service. May God bless you!
…a $25 gift from a long-time friend of Brigada. Thanks and God bless!
…a True Fan of Brigada in Taiwan who also gave $100 this past week. Thank you!!! She wrote, “That unreached peoples may shine with His glory” Amen!
…the $20 gift from a VERY long-time friend of Brigada. Thanks Missionary Training Service!

Want to partner with Brigada, together, in an attempt to hasten that outcome? Just click “Donate” at www.brigada.org, or mail a check payable to Team Expansion (Brigada), 13711 Willow Reed Drive, Louisville, KY 40299. Team Expansion is a 501(c)3 incorporation so, for USA citizens, your gift to Christ by writing a check to Team Expansion is tax-deductible. Thank you, in advance, for your partnership!

14) Yes There is Chaos — but God is Still Sovereign; He Reigns

Seems like every morning, as we scan the headlines, we see more and more chaos amid the confusion of giant people-shifts (e.g., the Rohingyas reportedly being driven out of Burma/Myanmar into Bangladesh), violence (e.g., against the children of Yemen and concert-goers in Las Vegas), and fear of the future (e.g., missiles from North Korea to the USA). Yet, amidst all the threats, we keep hearing a simple message from PrayerCast.com. That message is — God is still sovereign. He’s still on the throne. And He’s powerful and BIG. If you’ve ever doubted, just pray along with this video…

http://prayercast.com/you-reign.html

Suddenly, all the fear fades. Confidence and hope rises. So whether we’re facing conflict or trying to sort out how to send a new team of cross-cultural Good News-bearers to North Africa or the Middle East or wherever, God still reigns. We’ve seen the end of the book. And He wins.
