15) Closing Stuff

1) Ministries Helping People Around the World to Get Clean Water

On the Water Ministries website, you will find a bunch of ministries that are helping people around the world who have problems getting clean water. Some of the ministries are also interested in sharing the gospel with the same people that they are helping to provide clean water. You’ll also learn about those who provide water filters, and some who specialize in digging wells. To learn more, visit

2) Could Narrative Replace PowerPoint?

Amazon’s Founder and CEO believes so. His 2018 annual letter repeated his rule banning Powerpoint from all executive meetings. Why, you might ask? We’ve prepared a PowerPoint to explain — just kidding. It won’t actually take that long. He believes that a) Our brains are hardwired for narrative, b) Stories are more persuasive, and c) Bullet points are the least effective way of sharing ideas. (Now what were those bullet points again?) Learn more at…

3) You Think YOUR Travel Budget is Bad? Check THIS Out:

What does it cost to fly from the US Embassy in Kabul over to the airport? As of next year, $2250. Yes, that’s actually more expensive than the $1850 flight from Washington DC to Kabul. But, as you’ll see in the article, that’s what DynCorp needs to make sure the ride is safe. (And since it’s too dangerous to make the three-mile DRIVE any longer, chopper shuttles are the only way.) Yikes — we hope they at least get their choice between almonds, cookies, or granola bars during that flight. Learn more at…

(Thanks for the heads-up on this, Caleb!)

5) Is Anybody Doing Church-Planting Training in a non-DMM Fashion?

Does non-CPM, non-DMM church-planting training still happen? (You might ask, why would anyone want to know that? Who could possibly still want to offer something in the traditional, non-DMM way?) The truth is, we recently received an inquiry on this. We’ll allow him to remain anonymous, but from what we could gather, he just wanted to offer a voice from the other side of the aisle — if there’s still an aisle? So, would anyone be willing to click “Comment” on the web or app version of this item to tell us — does anybody still teach the legacy approach to church planting?

6) David Mays’ “Mission Stuff” Lives On

David Mays was kind of a-Mays-zing. Long-time consultant and resource person for ACMC, he was one of those guys who made such a huge impact on so many people — maybe he was superhuman. Well, his work lives on through the magic of the web (and in many of us) at pages like…

where his “Mission Stuff” can still provide you with resources beyond belief. And it’s all completely free (as was much of David Mays’ work). God bless you David Mays!

7) Mission: Kim Possible

As this Brigada goes out the door, it seems more and more likely that North Korea and the USA might meet for a summit. See stories like…

and either way, North Korea is going on record saying they will stop developing nukes. See, for example, stories like…

We don’t know about you, but suddenly the world feels just a tad safer than it did 6 months ago.

10) The Report is in on IDP’s — and It’s Not Positive

Internally Displaced People (IDP’s) have ebbed and flowed for the last couple of decades. But find out why and where there are over 30 million people on the run by the end of 2017. If these 30 million people all lived in one country, their population would be bigger than Belgium, Haiti, and Switzerland — combined! See all the cool charts, graphs, and impacting text at …

then pray hard with us that we can make some kind of positive impact to reduce the suffering while helping them find Jesus to give help and hope for the future. Pray this because we hope that at least SOME good can come out of all the crazy chaos. (And thanks to Justin Long for writing us recently, encouraging us to consider this topic.)

11) Joshua Project Has Updated their “Unreached People” App’s newly updated app allows you to notify the community that you are praying for today’s Unreached of the Day and you can see how many others have declared that they are praying. You can also share the Unreached of the Day easily, choose 1 of 4 languages, search the 366 Unreached of the Day by name, date and country, and even schedule daily reminders. Find it wherever you pick up apps for your device.

12) TESOL Training in Asia

Here’s TESOL training designed for those in ministry and set at a ministry budget. Asean Center for TESOL offers an intensive, five-week course leading to a TESOL certificate in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Get classes, community experience, and lots of guidance – and a certificate – all at the same time. And it might just be cheaper to fly out and take this course than it is to take the same course in N.A.! For application forms or more information see

or email

13) We’re Grateful for…

…a $25 donation from our friends at ESIOnline, the folks who, among other things, provide you with the book, “Mission Smart: 15 Critical Questions To Ask Before Launching Overseas.” Find it on Amazon today to prepare for the field more effectively and to vet your recruits more effectively as well. God bless you ESI!
…a $50 gift from an anonymous and faithful Brigada participant who understands the need for fresh water. God bless you!!!

14) The Last Bit: What Kind of Impact will YOU Leave on God’s Planet?

If you’ve been reading Brigada Today for any length of time, you know we’re all about getting people to heaven. That’s our priority. But sometimes, we can’t help but notice what’s going on around us, here in the garden God has made for us, so to speak. Recently, this hit home for us when we saw the item…

How can any one creature destroy so much? We know it can be argued that a deer destroys young saplings. But this? This is out of control. It’s not that we take this “good earth” deal to some kind of obsessive-compulsive level. But at the same time, this is extreme. What if each one of us just made the tiniest little difference? What could one of us do?
a) Shop online — Believe it or not, shopping virtually (online) would actually reduce carbon emissions (while arguably giving you a greater selection at the same time). And you won’t spend time idling your car in parking lot lines — so less carbon emissions!
b) Avoid throwing away good food — Take home your leftovers at a restaurant (or better yet, cook exactly what you plan to eat in an efficient way at home — and save the carbon emissions too). Some have argued that we’re throwing away as much as 40% of the food we choose. Ouch. That’s a lot of waste that ends up in landfills, thereby turning into methane. What’s more, we’re thereby wasted the resources it takes to MAKE the food.
c) Skip the plastic — Whenever its possible, skip the plastic forks and knives with the fast food you buy, especially if you’re taking it home anyway. (Do you have forks and knives at home?) Europe is now considering legislation to ban single-use straws. Bravo to them.

These tiny choices won’t in and of themselves save the planet. But they are a START to help us get our minds around taking care of God’s world. If you’d like to learn more about how to do that, check out books like Ed Brown’s book, Our Father’s World: Mobilizing the Church to Care for Creation. Find it on Amazon here…

Save the planet — and show God you love His work. By doing so, it’s kind of cool form of worship. : )
