15) Closing Stuff

1) Theological Education by Extension Courses in 67 Languages

There is no doubt — People around the world want to study Theological (or Bible) Education by Extension. This website has information on courses in 67 Languages. However, the ministry listed (SEAN) does not sell or provide its materials on-line or directly to students. They only work with Churches and Theological Education by Extension programs that pledge to use them following SEAN’s study methodology and the Group Leader’s Guides that accompany each course.

2) Major conference on DMM/CPM in Chicagoland September 6-8

Here’s a major conference on DMM called “Multiply: a Disciple-Making Movements Summit.” It will happen near Chicago, IL and it will feature Jerry Trousdale, Roy Moran and David Watson (via video). Don’t miss this awesome learning and networking opportunity with major leaders involved in modern Acts-like movements happening today! God has used these leaders to catalyze movements reaching over a million new disciples among unreached peoples, including Muslims while Roy is pioneering harnessing the fire of movements for established churches in America.

4) Piece on Security in Nicaragua Will Mentor on Security Worldwide

This article by Scott Brawner is actually about Nicaragua. But the categories and benchmarks he describes will also help us all as we think about security in general in region of the world in 2018. Catch it at…

(Thanks to the anonymous Brigada participant who sent this our way!)

5) What’s the TOP Reason that Workers Leave the Field?

In a conversation with a pair of great friends from Southeast Asia, they referred to a very recent study on attrition. We asked them for more information and they took us through the development. The first article to which they pointed us looked at the conversation-starter:

Then they shared the post that launched the actual study itself:

And finally, they shared the quantitative results of the study:

Needless to say, we thought they were grand. : )

6) The Largest Frontier People Groups

The 31 Unreached People Groups (UPGs) featured last week (listed in item 4 last week) are part of a new category of UPG that is being referred to as Frontier UPGs. These are UPGs that are no more than .1% (not 1%, but .1%) Christian. These groups do not presently have a movement. Some people using JoshuaProject data have been looking for a way to highlight groups that do not have a movement. Frontier UPGs are the result of that interest. Find a nice handout on the whole subject at…

There are 4,760 groups in this new list!
(Thanks Dan and Bill!)

7) Design Your Prayer Initiative By Reverse Engineering These Samples

Jon Graf wrote, “The most effective way to get the most people in your church praying is by holding a prayer initiative.” That’s a campaign in which everyone prays on a similar theme for 30 or 40 days. (See the full article he wrote at

https://www.prayerleader.com/resources/articles-2/3-starting-points-to-grow-prayer-in-your-church/ )

Want to design such a prayer initiative? One way to design it is to reverse engineer it by looking at examples of other prayer initiatives. You can get a sampler pack to do just that at…

8) Sign up For Occasional Prayer Reminders at Pray4Somalis.com

Want to see, at long last, a final and resounding renewal of the nation of Somalia? Pray for God’s blessing on these industrious but grief-stricken people at…

Prayer requests will be occasional most of the year, with seasons of short daily prayer promptings based on current events and initiatives in the region. Isn’t it about time the church did something big to help the region of Somalia?

9) Quick Tips on Catching and Casting Vision

Are you starting a new initiative? … building a new outreach? … framing a new church or organization? You’ll need vision. But it is so fragile — like trying to grown a flower in the desert. Frankly, as some have said, it “leaks,” so to speak. It needs constant refilling. Catch some quick thoughts on how to refuel it in Eric Swanson’s 18-minute read at…

11) Why church camp is a harder sell than ever (and what you can do about it)

Are you finding that church camp attendance has declined in your area? In an article by Ministry to Youth they advocate for finding youth wherever they may be to minister to them. Do you have ideas on how to minister to students who don’t attend church camp? Is your camp attendance on the decline? Please comment!

12) Do you find it difficult to pray Scripture?

Prayershop has made it easy for us to practice praying Scripture. They have just introduced a new line of Scripture-based prayer cards for women called Intentional Prayer Cards that teach women to pray God’s Word back to Him. Each pack includes 31-scripture-based prayers to pray for targeted areas. Packs are available to pray for children, husbands, marriage & home, spiritual growth and against insecurity, fear and anxiety. For more info:

14) The Last Bit: How to Mesh Disciple-Making Movements with Church

I’m just going to confess — I’m having a ball these last few days, brainstorming with a megachurch of 2000 as to how they mesh Disciple-making movement (DMM) strategies and life practices with megachurch growth models. And this is the perfect staff with whom to brainstorm. In the stand-up meeting we just did, we had the Lead Pastor, the Executive Pastor, the Global Outreach Pastor, and the Discipleship Pastor all thinking at 90 miles per hour how to mesh their areas. The entire church staff is going through a Zume intensive together. First, if you haven’t explored Zume, see it now at…

Second, think with me about all the implications. How do we introduce three-thirds groups (discovery Bible studies) into life groups? This church has about 48 life groups already formed. What should we ask those groups to do with DBS ideas? And will some people stay in a life group while they begin new DBS groups with non-believers? And what should the lead pastor’s sermon series be during the 9 weeks that the entire church does Zume together? How will young people be involved? What’s the worship team’s role? How does this impact the “community center” idea that the church is using effectively? And — I can’t wait to figure out how the church becomes a catalyst for GLOBAL outreach. Wow — there are so many questions. This is a fun time. And a fun job.

If you haven’t gone through a 9-week Zume course, please run, don’t walk, to start one today. And — if you have any case studies or ideas, please click comment below the web or app version of this item. Thanks in advance for your help.
