15) Closing Stuff

1) Pick up Free Videos by Dr. Larry Crabb, Psychologist/Scholar

It doesn’t take too much living before we realize that life never goes quite the way we want it to. But when things get hard and we don’t understand what God is doing, what is our first impulse?
Ministry leaders can get Dr. Larry Crabb’s new video series and downloadable excerpts from his book “When God’s Ways Make No Sense.” Get free access at…

3) After Facilitating 25 Workers Through the Book, “Spirit Walk”

Steve Smith’s new book, “Spirit Walk,” is a real winner. In fact, after faciliatating 25 cross-cultural workers through it in a format not unlike a reading group, we can honestly say — it works GREAT to sensitize workers to possibility of walking each day with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. We simply worked our way through the book, a chapter at a time, focusing on the text, then on questions for discussion. Honestly, the book evoked a lot of great discussion, especially in regard to the Spirit’s role. Learn more about Spirit Walk at…

4) Another Version of Strategy Training for Disciple-Making Movements

Some time ago we highlighted a Strategy Training workshop. But at the time, we didn’t realize an entire strategy training already existed online for free. Find it at…

Strategy Coordinator Training provides tools and backgrounds for designing a strategy to reach all the unreached in a particular area or pocket of people. Check out the link above and you’ll see what we mean.

5) Zume Will Bring Disciple-Making Movement Training to 36 Languages

By year’s end, disciple-making movement (DMM) training will be available via…

in 36 different languages. Translators all over the world are making great progress on their respective Zume course translations. The big secret is that one language is already done but is just being field-tested before the Zume planning team rolls it out to users everywhere. Imagine, within 6 months, being able to reach the 34 most commonly-spoken languages in the USA and probably the entire world.

6) Creating a Culture of Missional Prayer

The more we see it, the more we recognize — creating a culture of prayer can’t happen merely by scheduled events. We have to get people praying all along the way, along the journey. Whenever anyone even mentions a concern or a need, we need our leaders, as well as all our team members, to be thinking about prayer — and then we need them to “stop the presses and pray” right there on spot. This behavior is “better caught than taught.” But we’re convinced that one of the keys is just promising one’s self that, if the idea even occurs in one’s head to pray, one simply MUST pray, out loud, with the team member, at that time. Maybe that prompting comes directly from the Holy Spirit. Either way, it has to be real. It can’t be fake. Was it Jim Cymbala who wrote, “When ministry becomes performance, then the sanctuary becomes a theatre, the congregation becomes an audience, worship becomes entertainment, and man’s applause and approval become the measure of success. But when ministry is for the glory of God, His presence moves into the sanctuary. Even the unsaved visitor will fall down on his face, worship God, and confess that God is among us.”

7) 8th-Gen Laptops Are King of the Battery Marathon

As I (Doug) write items for this Brigada, I’m on board an older Boeing 777 without the electrical package. Bummer. I always look for the “ER” on the end of the 777, hoping that will bring electrical receptacles. But, alas, this aircraft struck out. So here I am on board a 13-hour flight with no power source. But fortunately, only by God’s grace, a while back, God provided an 8th-gen processor, which today has shown its worth by allowing me to work essentially all day long… and yet I still have 41% battery remaining right now. To me, the 8th-gen series of chips bring a greater capacity for production than any upgrade in recent history. If you get stuck using your battery, pray that God has provided an 8th-generation processor. : )

8) Easy Money Transfer with TransferWise Border-Less Bank Account

According to a recommender this past week, it is now possible to transfer money easily online through your border-less bank account. According to the instructions, you can simply open a bank account in any country and any currency without even being in that country. Missionaries can then transfer funds through their border-less bank account. You receive a Mastercard to access your money. Learn more at…

(Thanks for the tip, David!) Have you tried transferwise? If so, we’d love to hear your own experiences with this approach.)

11) Louisville Church to Offer Unique Training Event

It’s called Al Massira Training Event and it’s happening at Southeast Christian Church, 12-9pm on Friday, 8am to 3pm Saturday, September 21-22, 2018. Four meals and all training materials are included in the $100 registration fee.

Al Massira is a new way to share your faith in the Messiah with your international friends. It is a series of 13 short films to be followed by guided discussions. Presented in Arabic, English, French, Chinese Hui, Italian, and Farsi. Subtitles are available in German, Dutch, Chinese CSN & TSN, and several other languages.

Upon completion of the course you will received either a set of DVD’s or a flash drive with the videos and other resources. To register, visit…

or contact Melanie for further information at mmitchellatseccdotorg or 502-253-8160.

12) Mozambique: Not as Bad as We Feared?

After last week’s report on Mozambique and a new epoch of violence, (“Mozambique Records Horrible Beheading”) we heard directly from workers laboring in the area where the incident occurred. At least one worker reported that it wasn’t as bad as it sounded, which we took as really good news. Still, let’s continue to monitor the situation. And, if you’re working there, please “watch your six.” (Thanks “V!”)

13) We’re Grateful for…

…StarTrust Communications and their gift to Brigada of $25 this past week. Thank you Star Trust! We appreciate your encouragement to Larry Crabb and the Christian Ministry Academy!
…An anonymous worker who sent $50 this past week because he believes in the power of Brigada. Thank you brother!

14) The Last Bit: We Wanted to Like Microsoft Team’s New Pricing

We Really Did. We just didn’t know how. We saw the announcement this past week at…

It looked enticing. Better communication than Slack. More storage. Simultaneous editing capability in any MS Office document. However, in the first place, we couldn’t figure out how to subscribe. And in the second place, we couldn’t find their new pricing paradigm described anywhere on the MS website.

In our everlasting quest to find the best teamwork platform, we’re currently getting by with Quip. Quip is a Salesforce.com product and it’s excellent. The only possible hitch is — it’s a bit of a dance to explain the user paradigm to new people. You see, Quip seems to scan user’s email addresses, searching for common patterns. Once it determines that two or more people from the org are using the product, it begins keeping track of their storage. Once they max out Quip’s limited trial period/storage, Quip cuts off additional documents. It’s a huge bummer. However, the weird thing is, someone can come in off the street with no org and use the app to his/her heart’s content. It’s a strange setup, if you ask me.

So in my (Doug’s) case, once I figured this out, I willingly paid for 5 subscriptions so I was pitching in SOMETHING to the company. Then I started asking all my friends and teammates to log on with personal addresses so they wouldn’t be lumped into a tracking log for the org I lead. I justified this by deciding in my mind that I was trying to build a kind of global network made up of several different entities. The company contacted me once, around one week in, to ask, “Are you sure you want to use the software like this?” I responded, “Why yes. We love it.” So it has worked like a charm so far. And we pay Salesforce.com every month — but just for 5 paid subscribers. (The rest participate as guests.) So I think everybody’s happy — except new users, who realize they can’t use their normal “org” email addresses. So we were open to hear what Microsoft had planned. But alas, we can’t figure it out!

Can someone smarter than we are help us sort out Microsoft Teams please? If so, please click “Comment” after the app or web version of this item.
