15) Closing Stuff

1) Learn about Islam at the 2019 “Engaging Islam” Institute

It’s scheduled for August 26 to September 2, 2019, in Beirut, Lebanon. This two-week course equips Christians for worldwide ministry to Muslims. Missionaries, local workers, pastors, students, and many others have learned how to effectively engage Muslims with the gospel through Engaging Islam Institute’s innovative hands-on approach, which combines classroom teaching modules with evangelistic street outreaches to Muslims in nearby refugee camps and villages.
Engaging Islam’s curriculum was developed by Georges Houssney, who teaches the course alongside other evangelists and ministers with decades of practical field experience in ministry to Muslims. Collectively, they have brought thousands of Muslims to Christ, and have planted churches across the Middle East.

The course will be taught simultaneously in Arabic and English. Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to strengthen your witness to Muslims in historic Beirut! To learn more, visit

2) The IMB is Giving Away their Maps and PowerPoints! : )

Thanks to the International Mission Board (of the Southern Baptist Churches) for sharing resources so freely! You can download and print a map illustrating Progress Toward Engaging Unreached Peoples, the Global Status of Evangelical Christianity, and even Unengaged Unreached People Groups. Plus, there are full-length PowerPoint presentations to explain the meanings of each. Use these at your church or missions team, or in your prayer group or at a party! : ) Learn more at…

You don’t even have to register. And they’re free!

3) Make a Movie in Mongolia

Here’s your chance to be in the movies — and help make them! Prayerfully consider going to Mongolia next year for the next evangelistic film project as part of the Frontier Filmmaking Seminar. This program is a six-week YWAM seminar, open to the body of Christ, and designed to provide the experience of working with a cross-cultural film crew producing a dramatic evangelistic film for an unreached people group. Applications and more information can be found at

4) Question: Do You Use the Brigada App? Should we Keep it?

Here’s a question: Do you use and enjoy the Brigada app? (You can try it at the place where you get your apps. Just search for Brigada.) If you love it, please say. It costs us to maintain it. (I believe it averages about $70/month.) If the Brigada family isn’t that crazy about a custom Brigada app, maybe we should just take that as a sign not to keep running it? Just click “Comment” after this item on the web or in the app. Thanks!

5) This Video Asks, “Is it OK to Prioritize Reaching the Unreached?”

Honestly, it’s probably a question we’ve all faced before. We just didn’t know how to answer it. The question? Why SHOULD we prioritize unreached peoples. Surely a soul is a soul wherever we go, whether on our cul-de-sac or in a country 12 time zones away, right? In this video, GlobalCast Resources will help us figure out how to ask all the right questions — then you can figure out all the right answers.

6) Can’t Believe this Useful Note-taking/Outlining/To-do App is Free

This past week, we learned of a new start-up that, in just one year, has put together a solid outlining application that also makes an excellent task management app. It’s multi-user (real-time), just like we prefer — so more than one of your team members can be editing and adding tasks at once. There’s a conversation thread, so workers can dialogue about topics and themes. You can upload an unlimited amount of pictures, PDFs, and other attachments and associate them with the sub-points of your outline and conversation thread. This can become a great place for a team (even one with which some workers are serving remotely) to come together, rally around, and improve communication/planning. Imagine annual goalsetting and strategic planning. So, on a whim, I wrote the company, half-expecting that nobody (in a busy start-up) would answer. Surprisingly, the CEO began to dialogue with me directly. I asked if they were going to add offline access. He said it was coming. I asked if they were going to monetize it. (Because you don’t WANT to invest lots of your planning in an application that’s completely free. Mark my words: It will eventually die and then all your work is lost. So we WANT them to make it a successful business.) They’ve already mastered the art of “folding up” elements of the outline. They’re now working on security and permissions (which will be very important for many of our Brigada participants). I’m telling you, this application is one to watch. It hasn’t arrived yet, but it’s already better than WorkFlowy in many areas. It’s even starting (just STARTING, mind you) to give Quip a run for its money. Check it out. We’ll keep you informed. The moment they get security and permissions set, we need to start experimenting with this app. They hope to have a “pro” version done within a month. Thank you John and everybody else at Taskade! 7) There are 23 Million People Following the Sikh Religion…

They are some of the most noble and brave people we’ve ever met. I (Doug) was able to visit the Golden Temple in Amritsar, India, several years ago. It was a very sobering experience. See the Golden Temple at …

Then pray for the Sikhs at…

Then, please, can we figure out how we can share the Good News story of redemption with them?

9) 52 Creative Ways to Pray (the book)

Paul Covert’s book, 52 Creative Ways to Pray, is filled with ideas that will give new life to an individual’s prayer time or will make prayer more dynamic in a small group or all-church prayer gathering.
Written by a long-time pastor of prayer, this book might be just what you need to liven up prayer in your life or ministry! We recently sat in a meeting with Paul. We’re amazed by his consistent, faithful, unswerving commitment to help people pray. Check it out at…

If you order before Dec. 14th is done, you’ll save 10%. : )

10) The Zúme Course Adds Another Language – Bahasa Indonesia

“Bahasa Indonesia” is like saying, “the language of Indonesia” and now, it’s also the language of Zúme. Zúme Training is an on-line and in-life learning experience designed for small groups who follow Jesus to learn how to obey His Great Commission and make/multiply disciples. It consists of 10 lessons of roughly 2 hours each. By the time you’re done with all 10 lessons, you’ll not only KNOW how to make disciples, you’ll also be DOING it. That’s what makes Zúme different. Zúme gets you OBEYING the Great Commission, not just learning about it. Plus, if you have a non-Christian friend who is spiritually seeking, Zúme is a great way to find answers. For discipleship pastors and small groups specialists, Zúme offers a fantastic (and reproducible) way to raise up new leaders. And now, you can do all that (and MORE!) in the language of Indonesia too! Just click the drop-down arrow in the upper right of the page at…

Choose from English, Spanish, Hindi, Farsi, and Arabic — and 35 other languages are on their way. For example, watch for Somali — in the near future!

11) Have You Been Wanting to Take “Momentum?” Live in Louisville?

If you’ve been wanting to try the new Momentum course and you live in Louisville (or are willing to travel to travel there), you’re in luck. Team Expansion is hosting Momentum on Dec. 19th, 20th, and 21st, from 2pm to 5pm each day. So in just 3 days, you’ll finish the entire course. Team Expansion is located at 4112 Old Routt Road. There’s no charge to take part, but please reserve your spot by signing up here:

(Just scroll to the bottom of the page.) Space is limited. Learn how YOU can participate in what God is doing in the world. The course invites everyday people to rethink God’s mission, the call of the church, and their individual roles. It’s great for students, leaders, church members — really ANYONE who wants to learn more about God’s heart for the nations. And it’s free! Learn more about Momentum by clicking to…

By the way, if you’d rather not travel to Louisville, just follow the instructions at the link above to stage Momentum for free at YOUR church or with your group!

12) Want to Teach Your Kids to Pray Like Bible Characters Did?

Now you can. With Jane Landreth’s book, “Bible Prayers for Bedtime,” your kids (ages 5-8) will hear model prayers that can help them learn how to pray for a lifetime. It goes beyond the traditional Bible story book by providing more than five dozen Bible prayers in fun, easy-to-understand story form with full color illustrations. From “The First Prayers” of Genesis 4, through the prayers of Moses, Deborah, David, Daniel, Jesus, Peter, and Paul, Bible Prayers for Bedtime explains prayer in ways that young hearts can grasp. If you happen to see this and order before the end of the day, Dec. 14th, save 10%!

Have you ever driven by one of those big billboards that just said something like, “Harry Loves Melinda,” or whatever. And you instantly think, wow — that guy was willing to go all out for the person he loves. Imagine being able to send a copy of Brigada to someone you love, with the simple instruction, “Please read this missions newsletter — especially item 13.” Imagine the person’s surprise when they see their name (even just their first name, to keep things kind of secure) mentioned along with your gift. What a unique way to send a super-special Christmas greeting, right? : ) For whatever reason you want, please…

Just click “Donate” at www.brigada.org, or mail a check payable to Team Expansion (Brigada), 13711 Willow Reed Drive, Louisville, KY 40299. Team Expansion is a 501(c)3 incorporation so, for USA citizens, your gift to Christ by writing a check to Team Expansion is tax-deductible. Thank you, in advance, for your partnership!

14) The Last Bit: Why do we Charge for Brigada? Oh wait; we don’t. : )

Brigada has been absolutely free since its start-up in 1995. Every week, you receive a simple email with 15 or so items. Those items focus on information, resources, and trends about the Great Commission (and those fulfilling it). Admittedly (and kind of unashamedly), it’s kind of an eclectic (and sometimes quirky?) assortment of items. (Another way of saying it: We cover somewhat of a wide berth.) One item might hook you up with a cool new two-minute video about fulfilling the Great Commission and suddenly, before you know it, you’re being reminded to take a brown extension cord on your next mission trip? (What?) Someone will share the latest about a new mission retreat, conference, book, or song, and then, here will be a thought piece on computer security (and how, hopefully, to achieve it). Just when you think you’ve figured out Brigada (and you’re learning about Hinduism at a new website you saw in item 11), you’ll see a missions-oriented homeschooling resource in item 12. And of course, Brigada will be thanking someone for sending in a $100 donation in item 13. And you go, “What IS this?” But see, that’s part of the magic of Brigada. We never seem to take ourselves SO seriously that we can’t mention — an animated population map, or a new smartphone app that you can use to communicate with supporters. In fact, we are almost PURPOSELY diverse — because that’s our audience. In a not-so-long-ago study, one researcher found that literally thousands of our readers came from virtually all over the Global South — while thousands more come from Europe and North America. Plus, our archives (our weekly Brigada editions all the way back to the beginning of 1995) are completely free. You don’t have to register, you don’t need a cell phone, there’s no facial recognition, and no one will call. And guess what: there are no flashing ads on our landing page — or any other page. We don’t even feature Google ads!

So what IS Brigada? It’s you… and thousands like you from all over the world. That’s why you (and your peers) can throw out a question asking for the latest this or that — and then (hopefully) see answers from someone in the comments that follow. Brigada isn’t a person or a thing. It’s a family. And we’re glad you’re part of it!
