1) Pastoral Training in Member Care Conference

It will all take place in Asheville, NC, October 8–11. The Pastoral Training in MemberCare (PTM) Conference is an excellent resource for anyone involved in caring for God’s global workers. This US-based conference brings together caregivers from sending churches, missions agencies, and member care organizations, and provides a place for networking, mutual encouragement, skill-building, and spiritual refreshment. Registration closes September 10, so please sign up soon. For more information, email Abby at

ptmatbarnabasdotorg  (ptmatbarnabasdotorg)   with questions, or see their web site

3) MKs: Customize Your own BA in Intercultural Ministry

Nebraska Christian College, a branch campus of Hope International University, offers a B.A. in Intercultural Ministry. Courses are available on-site or online, and students may complete many of the course requirements while living abroad. 12 credits are available for an individualized concentration developed by the student and advisor; an additional 12 credits are earned in a senior year residency experience in ministry anywhere in the world. For more information, contact Dr. Andrew Wood at

awoodatnechristiandotedu  (awoodatnechristiandotedu)   .  Learn more about the college by visiting…

5) Beautiful Book to Help Children Memorize Scripture

Lauren Minor recently published “My ABC Bible Verse Book.” Intended for use during family devotions, in homeschool or churches, these 26 “ABC” verses are easy to memorize for children and with beautiful watercolor illustrations by Beth Tillotson. Visit

to learn more and purchase a book for family, friends or supporters in the States. Both ladies raised children while serving cross culturally as reflected by the verses and art.

6) These Geographically-Related Pads and Books Would Be Sooo Cool…

Just picture these geographically-related pads and books in your home school or in the small group youth curriculum for your house church or group. There are pads (each pad has 25 sheets) with blank world maps, and maps of each continent (with countries pre-demarcated). There are dry-erase maps, coloring books and more. This is such a cool place…

7) Are You Teaching About Honor/Shame? These Two Resources Will Help

Of course, it seems like everyone today is utilizing the 3D Gospel (book) by Jayson Georges to help us grapple with the meaning of cultures who focus on honor/shame as a central ethic.

But have you considered using this video by PrayerCast along WITH the Georges book?

We think it would make a terrific tandem tool.

8) "Foundations of Media to Movements" Course Offered

Mission Media U (MMU) is an online learning platform designed to train Christians to be more effective in making disciples and establishing churches. Their course, “Foundations of Media to Movements,” is starting September 12 and running through October 10. Each week in the 5-week course requires 3 hours of work per week including a one-hour live instruction session. For more information, go to

9) The Strategic Role of Networks

We face complex challenges that require global collaboration. The multi-network GENMobile App is built on the database of Linking Global Voices that tracks over 600 global networks and their events. Some are geographically defined and others are issue-focused. This app looks so cool and is packed with resources.

The Android version of GENMobile is now available with the IOS coming soon. We can’t wait. Use this app to develop your network engagement strategy. Network leaders should contact Eldon to access additional services. Email him at…

10) Righteous Rides: Great Deals on Wheels for Missionaries

This past week, I was paying a complement to one of our workers from Africa who happened to have a great vehicle for travel during Home Service. It turned out that they had obtained the vehicle from Righteous Rides. We’ve profiled them previously — but it’s probably been a while. How does it work? USA-sent overseas missionaries communicate with them in advance about vehicle needs while on home service. When the missionary family finally flies back to the USA, they travel first to Truesdale, Missouri (where Righteous Rides is based), pick up the vehicle kit that Righteous Rides has prepared in advance. After their furlough (usually 6-12 months), they travel back to Truesdale, drop off the vehicle, then return to their overseas destination. Righteous Rides charges a reasonable amount per month for the vehicle’s use, then recycle it, prepping it for the next family. They throw in lots of fun things to keep the kids busy while traveling. And the prices are incredibly reasonable. (Rule of thumb: You’ll end up paying a monthly rental roughly equivalent to a *weekly* rental at Hertz.) Try them. Learn more at…

11) Correction on the Missio Nexus Attrition Study

Please note that the study reported here…

was always, fair and square, a study conducted fully by Missio Nexus without any assistance from any other agency. (Our original item said otherwise. Please forgive.) We corrected it on the web within minutes of being notified, but we just thought we’d mention it here for any Brigada participants who read the email version exclusively. Again, thanks to Missio Nexus for carrying out this research.

13) We’re Grateful for…

14) The Last Bit: Best Online Site for Finding Mission Opportunities

This past week, a Brigada participant named Debra wrote to see if we still operated the age-old service called Brigada-Opportunities. At the time, a prospective worker or recruit could write a simple email address (in conjunction with Brigada) and a bunch of us would be monitoring that email group (which was actually an open-ended list-serve address, of sorts) then (in an ideal world) someone from the group would guide the prospective recruit to a mission field opportunity that fit his or her needs to a “T.” It was a great idea — in that it was free, easy to use, and promoted cooperation between several mission organizations and services. Of course, it was also difficult because, since it was free, the entire group of helpers was just doing it out of the goodness of our hearts. Like many such ideas, it ran its course and finally went out into space. But Debra had seen it referenced, a bit like … discovering an old Voyager Spacecraft still orbiting in outer space. (Remember this?

When I saw Debra’s note, I remembered Intercristo. When I searched for them on the web, I actually came across their contact information (of all things) in a VERY old book we did years ago called, “Resources for Missionary Recruits.” (Their contact info at the time was Intercristo Computer Matching Service.[P. O. Box 9323, Seattle, Washington 98109; Tel. 1(800)426–0507. Obviously, that’s long out of date by now.) Intercristo apparently merged with ChristianJobs.com in 2009.

But try as I might, in my web searches tonight, I couldn’t find anything exactly like the old “Intercristo” used to be. That surprises me. As interconnected as the web is today, one would THINK that such a service would exist. Does it? Is ChristianJobs.com the closest thing to it? If you were a mission recruit, where would YOU go to find a listing of all the best and greatest mission opportunities in the world? (Got an answer? If so, please just click “Comment” and let us know. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.)
