1) Would You Help Bring This Prayer to Reality?

This past week, a friend of Brigada sent a gift with this prayer: “Just a prayer that this little bit will be blessed by Him for great things.” We humbly ask and pray that the people who come together in this “brigade” called Brigada would be able to accomplish great things for God. Would you help empower these messages forward to all who serve?

This past week, the total for all gifts given during 2019 climbed to 9,018.52. Remember, we cap our annual budget at $17,120. In other words, this is not an unlimited request. We only need $8,101 additional funds to run 2019 completely in the black. This means we are now over the halfway mark. Is there ANY way you can help with a gift, small or large, to push this effort forward? Only 4 editions remain. As this Brigada hits the wires, there are exactly 24 days left to give before the end of the year. Would your church or group consider pitching in with any funding left in the budget? Would your family consider making a Christmas gift to Brigada? If so…

Please just click “Donate” at www.brigada.org, or mail a check payable to Team Expansion (Brigada), 13711 Willow Reed Drive, Louisville, KY 40299. Team Expansion is a 501(c)3 incorporation so, for USA citizens, your gift to Christ by writing a check to Team Expansion is tax-deductible. Thank you, in advance, for your partnership!

2) Question From a Church: Best Videos to Pray for the Persecuted?

Here’s a church leader asking for help locating videos about the persecuted church. He says they already use videos from Voice of the Martyrs and Open Doors. Are there others to which you could point him? If so, please click “Comment” following the app or web version of this item. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

3) This Page Provides 2418 Sources of Real-time Music WorldWide

There’s nothing quite like it. We have a regular Brigada contributor who is in a doctoral program in political science, which requires quite a bit of coding and research. He also loves music and was fascinated by the way this page brings to a convergence quite a lot of research, coding, music, and, well, fun. You’ll see music sources from all over the world. And if you do a control-F for the word, “Christian,” you’ll also find 14 free sources for Christian music too. (Thanks Caleb!)

4) Is the Truecaller App Safe? Who Knows?

Like everyone else these days, we’re weary of spam calls on our mobile phone (and we’re sure landlines must be getting them too, if anyone still has a landline these days). Calls from the IRS (would they really call my cell?), that latest dream vacation (the one place I can guarantee you that we would NEVER go is the place that deceitfully calls our phone asking for Sarah, then says in the recording, “Oh, ok, well you’ll do,” and many others are badgering and nagging us, using up our time, breaking our concentration, and in general, just annoying us. But we remain unconvinced that Truecaller is a true solution. If you wondered, just observe the squabble at…

https://www.quora.com/How-safe-is-Truecaller

Some reviewers point to the fact that we would need to reveal our entire list of contacts and calls to the app, which is, in a sense, compiling all these things into a huge reverse-engineered active cell phone directory that could then be sold (someday?) to the highest bidder or even broken (scammed) itself and used by bad guys. Bottom line: Better think twice (or three times) before buying into it, especially if you have contacts working in sensitive places on that contact list of yours. Oops.

7) Will This Be Your Church of Tomorrow? (In Virtual Reality?)

Some say yes. You can go to church, like this teenager did, wearing whatever you choose without your mother asking you to change. It’s VR Church. This teen started a church that has grown to 15,000. What? Check it out at…

(Thanks Andrew!)

8) New Book on “More Disciples” Coming Soon

Mike Shipman, author of “Any 3,” has written, “More Disciples is an important resource for facilitating the immergence of the next wave of multiplying discipleship practitioners. Doug Lucas shows why many have changed their ministry paradigm for the sake of kingdom expansion and why many others should consider doing so. More Disciples reminds those who already practice CPM/DMM principles to stay the course and to use this helpful resource to cast their disciple-making vision to others.”

David Garrison said, “More Disciples addresses head on the fundamental question: What’s it going to take to bring the world to faith and discipleship in Jesus Christ? From this clarion call to make disciples, we learn what it means to be a disciple and then move on to the question of “How?” More Disciples takes the centuries-old-challenge and, through the grace of God, places it within our grasp.”

Watch for More Disciples, coming soon.

9) Retro Movie About Mission Work, a Calling, and a College Grad

Yes, it’s black and white (think “It’s a Wonderful Life”) and yes, it stars Angie Dickinson. But isn’t it fun sometimes to kick back and watch something produced in 1960 without special effects? : ) It’s a message of faith, sacrifice, and calling. The head of a successful engineering firm expects his son, Bryan, to join him at the firm, but gets the shock of his life when Bryant tells him that after his war service he plans to go to the seminary and become a minister. (a.k.a I’ll Give My Life) Check it out at…

10) What Does It Mean, “All are Equally Lost, not All Equally Needy?”

GlobalCast Resources has done a great job answering this question at…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8EMGv7CSSs

in the next mobilization training video (that you could show to your staff or church missions team). This short video could spark a great discussion on mobilizing to the last, the least, and the lost, while not becoming judgmental about those who feel they have a different calling. It’s VERY interesting to note that as the presenter in this video is sharing, he’s actually speaking from a location in SE Asia to which he, himself, has felt called. So, even though his heart is firmly called as a mobilizer, he has felt a personally calling to work among the lost in SE Asia while he does so. Awesome stuff.

12) Have You Always Wished You Could Visit Turkey? Now You Can!

The International Turkey Network invites you to meet together with them in Christ, in Turkey, for Christ, for Turkey! Learn more about this Oct. 22-26, 2019 gathering at…

https://mailchi.mp/d7b6ea1dccac/registrations-are-now-open-for-buluma-noktas-2019

It will take place in a city named Bulusma Noktasi near Ephesus. Interestingly, Bulusma Noktasi means “Meeting Point,” a fitting name for such a gathering!

13) We’re Grateful for…

...a gift from the Center for Intercultural Training (CIT) for $200. In the org that we personally serve (Team Expansion), we send workers to this training group all the time and we consistently receive great feedback on their experiences. Try them for a cross-cultural experience of ANY length and you won’t be sorry. Thanks CIT! Learn more at…

…the $50 gift we received from a couple serving among Muslims because of their love for the Lord. Unfortunately, because of the sensitivities of the region, we can’t say more about their work, but we wish we could. They wrote, “Thanks to you all at Brigada for helping us carry the Gospel forward in the Middle East! We’ve been Brigada subscribers for at least a decade, and we truly appreciate your dedication and perseverance in sending us so much helpful news and resources all these years.” Wow. God bless you all for your encouraging words, your amazing gift, and your faithful service to the King!

…the $25 encouragement sent by Catalyst Services in Newtown, PA. God bless you! Can we ask you please to join them in celebrating the 150th issue of “Postings,” an indispensable FREE resource for mobilizers and churches. You can subscribe for free to receive a new issue each month by going to…

http://catalystservices.org/postings/

…a $100 gift from the folks at CanBooks. They wrote, “Thanks for your letter. Keep up the good work.” They are for sure “True Fans” of Brigada. See their books at…

http://canbooks.ca/

…the $50 gift from an anonymous donor who has a great ministry to those serving cross-culturally. He asked to remain anonymous but we wish so much we could tell you about the great things he does for those serving in the darkest places on earth. He did say that we might be able to help later with a research project. Can’t wait. Thank you!

…a $100 gift from Good News Productions in Joplin, MO. They wrote, “GNPI offers praise for all the opportunities to serve globally in 2018 and asks for prayers to be faithful and fruitful in 2019.” Thank you GNPI! You can learn more about their work at…

https://gnpi.org/

…the $30 gift from an anonymous donor who wrote, “Wish I could do more.” Her heart is always for the unreached, especially in Indonesia. She is especially remembering those affected by the recent earthquakes and tsunami in the region. May God bless your heart, and may he lift up all those in Indonesia that you serve in prayer and encouragement.

…a $100 donation from an anonymous “True Fan” of Brigada who wrote, “I’m a 75-year-old MK but have enjoyed Brigada for years. Thanks, God bless!” He added that he had gained from the resources and that he had first heard about Brigada through a cousin who was with MAF at the time. God bless you brother!

…a $50 gift from a great friend of Brigada who wrote, “Thanks! Keep up the good work!” We appreciate you! God bless you!

…the $50 gift from a longtime friend of Brigada with a strong personal need in her family. We prayed with her privately and, while lifting up her need, gave thanks to God for her encouragement.

…the $100 gift from “True Fans” of Brigada, serving in a very dark place. They wrote, “Appreciate all of the resources that you list- we have found several to be very helpful! Thank you for the work you do in promoting His glory among the nations!” Unfortunately, the location they serve prevents us from saying much about the great work that they’re doing. The only thing we can say is, thank you and God bless you.

…a $50 gift from an anonymous Canadian donor who said that all she wanted was that we would be able to continue onward. Such an encouragement. God bless you and God bless the great neighbor nation of Canada!

…so humbled and so grateful for the incredible $250 gift from an anonymous True Fan of Brigada who asked that we mention the Perspectives Course. We need not remind you that this 15-week course has served to awaken many to the needs, opportunities, and best practices to reach an entire world full of unreached people. Learn more at…

https://www.perspectives.org/

…the incredible, unforgettable $300 gift from True Fans of Brigada serving in the Balkans for… wow… has it been 20 years already? Whoa. Thank you so much for your selfless gift of service and your boost to Brigada!

…the amazing $20 gift from a great friend of Brigada in Fresno! Thank you!!

…a very welcome $25 gift from a welcome worker who wrote, “Here is Sweden, we love you! Blessings from an ole missionary and MERRY CHRISTMAS too!” What an encouragement. Thank you… and thank you Sweden!

…a $50 blessing from an anonymous Brigada participant in Elizabethton, TN! According to Amy Grant, “a tender Tennessee Christmas is the only Christmas for me!” We’re grateful!

…a much appreciated $50 gift from all the way out in Redmond, WA. We appreciate you Redmond!

…the donor who sent $200 from all the way down in Rayville, Louisiana! Thank you!

One friend wrote, “God has worked through Brigada to lead me to many very useful resources, often just when I was thinking about finding something on that topic. May He continue to give you and your co-workers grace and insight for this most appreciated communication work! … from a fellow worker in East Asia.” Another asked prayer “for collaboration with partners in N India and their disciple-making movements.” So we say, “Lord, please bring all these workers and their respective spheres of influence together. Bring them together like Jesus prayed in John 17, that they may be one that the world would be won. In Jesus name, Amen.”

14) The Last Bit: Finishing the Task Finished the Task!

This past week was the beginning of the end. Finishing the Task met in southern California with over 600 church leaders and mission executives having come together to study a list of unengaged, unreached people groups of 500 or more population. The sessions were powerful. We heard form Steve Smith (co-wrote T4T, helps with 24:14), who has been battling cancer. His messages were as inspirational as they were challenging and encouraging. Loren Cunningham (founded YWAM) has SOOO many great stories. They say Rick Warren (founded Saddleback Church) reads a book every day. Now I understand why he always seems to say something so smart in each sentence. Jimmy Seibert (Pastors Antioch Community Church) and his church have sent people full-time seemingly all over the world. And of course, Paul Eshleman (who led the Jesus Film and now Finishing the Task itself) has found a formula for coupling great data with great funding to empower new research, new sending, and new reaching — to the places that need it most. Honestly, it would be difficult not to love the week no matter where one works. I (Doug) gained so much from the workshops (Hint: Always attend Curtis Sergeant’s talks, no matter how many times you’ve heard them, no matter what he’s saying, because it’s in those talks, we can most learn how to reach the world), regional clusters (I attended 3 — and learned so much), and the Role Clusters (which were organized around our particular roles). Honestly — it was a fantastic gathering and, [drum roll], in the final moments, someone had committed to reach every last unengaged group on earth (with populations of 500 or more). God be praised. Well done, Finishing the Task. Now — we just have to pray that we’ll all actually DO it. : )
