10) Olympics are a Great Time for Helping Others Catch the Vision

Have you ever noticed how Olympics are a great time to help others catch a vision for the world? The “parade of nations” places 200 countries’ names in front of all your friends… and, throughout the next two weeks, your children, workmates and buddies will be seeing people from all over the world, learning their names, and, at times, even catching a glimpse of their lives. See what you can do to help them pray, dream, and maybe even plan to make a difference among some of these nations. Here’s one example. Every time a nation wins, you could ask your kids to color the flag of the winning team by downloading coloring-book type drawings of the flags at…

http://www.activityvillage.co.uk/flag-colouring-pages

Then you could pray for unreached peoples or cities within that land using Operation World or something similar.

Do you have other ideas? Please jot them down in the Comments section following the web version of this item.

11) Thought Radio was Dead? Silly You

radioJust because you can’t think of a single AM/FM radio in your house now (apart from the amp sitting under your tv maybe?), did you assume radio was dying? Maybe, like the news of Mark Twain’s death, the idea has been greatly exaggerated. The ONLINE version of radio (think podcasting) has surged in the past year, according to this study by Edison Research.

The Infinite Dial 2016

Imagine, at least in the USA, literally 1/4 of all people surveyed had listened to an on-demand audio program (a podcast) in the past month. Who knew!? Are you doing (or HAVE you done) a podcast or on-demand audio program? If so, please tell us your experience in a comment following the web version of this item. Thanks so much.

14) The BackPage: A Morning in the Life of a Nepali Refugee Community

If you work with Nepalis… or if you know anything about refugees or immigrants or dependency or incorporating immigrants in new worship situations… or if you just have a few minutes to brainstorm, would you listen to our latest podcast, “A Morning in the Life of a Nepali Refugee Community,” at …

http://moredisciples.com/2016/08/podcast-9-a-morning-in-the-life-of-a-nepali-refugee/podcast

(By the way — you can download and/or subscribe to the podcast while you’re there, if you like.) The goal is to come up with ideas that will help this local church with a grown group of immigrants they have living next door. Your brainstorming would be greatly appreciated! Please listen to the brief situation report there, then if you would be so kind, please make any suggestions about the situation in the comments following the web version of the item. Thanks!

1) Help Your Workers “Come Home” from Missions More Effectively

We hear good things about the debriefing experience provided by TRAIN International in Joplin, MO. Their re-entry retreat, “ABIDE,” is taken from the meaning of the word abide, “To continue without fading or being lost.” and Jesus’ teaching in John 15:5 “If you abide in me, and I in you, you will bear much fruit.” Their next ABIDE debriefing is October 16-21 and includes children’s and youth debriefing. They equip cross-cultural workers to process their experiences, navigate challenges of re-entry and reverse culture shock, spiritually recharge and find rest for the next leg of the journey, and tell their story well along the way. So now you can ensure that you or those serving with your agency may “continue without fading or being lost.” For more info you can call TRAIN at 417.625.1400 or email them at
admin@traininternational.org

2) Free Guidebook: Strengthening Your Church’s Missions Program

glasses and churchSerge (formerly World Harvest Mission) has a new, free guidebook on how your church can strengthen global outreach. They only ask that you fill out the form at the webpage below. They provided a review copy. With 73 pages, it provides chapters on “Forming Great Short-term Teams,” “Recruiting Missionaries from Your Church,” “Developing Sustainable Focused Funding,” and more. Looks good.
