10) Brigada Prayer Shelter to be Built This Saturday, July 28th –

This coming Saturday, a crew from Indianapolis is volunteering at Emerald Hills (Louisville, KY) to build a gazebo-like structure as a symbol of Brigada’s ongoing commitment for the development of prayer, mobilization, and partnership to reach unreached peoples. Over the last few years, a total of $14,900 has been gifted to Emerald Hills toward the training of cross-cultural workers to travel to unreached peoples. The total commitment behind the construction of these Project 29 Prayer Shelters is $24,000, meaning that we still have $9,100 to go. If you — or someone you know — might be willing to contribute (this week, or at any time in the future) toward the construction of this prayer shelter, small gift or large, just navigate to

then click “Donate” in the upper right and follow the instructions. By the way, you don’t need a PayPal account to give. If you reach a screen asking for your PayPal I.D., look on the left side of the screen, about halfway down, and find the prompt which says, “Continue without a PayPal Account.” Be sure to mark in the comment blank (or just send an email to DLucasatTeamExpansiondotorg identifying the purpose of the gift you just made).

12) Nearing the End of our 2011 Giving Opportunity –

So with the giving above (that’s $675 all together), plus the $15,126.92 already in hand during 2011, our total for 2011 now stands at $15,801.92. This means we have only $1318.08 to go to reach our 2011 budget need. Whoa — that’s close. I’m on a 10-day trip right now. I’m looking forward to getting back to Louisville to see if any other checks have arrived.

12) Would you Join a Worker in Helping Brigada Pay the Bills? –

We’re thankful that a friend from Wycliffe sent $50 this past week. He enclosed a note: “I’ve been receiving Brigada since… gee, I’m not sure; at least 15 years, and have discovered and shared with others many little nuggets from it over the years. Thanks for the work you do to keep missionaries and those interested in missions informed and equipped. I help assign, equip and prepare new missionaries for Bible-less peoples. No need to mention my name but your updates are invaluable not only for my work with Wycliffe but for my church in our missions ministry as well. Thanks.” If you have benefited during the past year, or if you’d like to spur Brigada on so that perhaps you can benefit during 2012 — or if you’d like to cover the cost for someone who cannot do so himself or herself, literally only a couple of days remain. Our goal for 2011 is $17,120. So far, 15,126.92 has come in. That leaves only $2192.39 to go — and there are just a couple of days remaining in 2011. Just click the “Donate” link at the top of the page at brigada.org. You won’t have to register with PayPal if you don’t want to. (Just click “make a payment without logging in” if you prefer.) Or, if you prefer, just send an old-fashioned check, payable to Team Expansion to: Team Expansion (Brigada), 13711 Willow Reed Dr., Louisville, KY 40299. (Team Expansion is a 501(c)3 incorporation so for USA citizens, your checks made out to Team Expansion are tax-deductible.) Thanks to those who have suggested this cause to their local church missions teams. We appreciate you!

11) A Personal Christmas Wish from the Editor of Brigada Today –

We did it. We went the whole year without asking for anything. Now, in these last few days of 2011, we’d love to put together the funds to kick Brigada up to the next level. We’d love to bring on some help that would allow us not only to get these editions out on time, but also to improve the scope and the range of content & features. In addition, we would love to pay something back to the organization that makes our work possible, whose ministry is *totally* focused on Unreached and Unengaged Peoples. Your gift to Brigada can have a huge impact on a child in Southeast Asia who has never had a chance to hear about the hope and love of Jesus Christ. Your generous gift can get him a chance to hear. It’s easy to give.

10) A Personal Appeal for Brigada from a Worker in the Middle East –

“I just sent a $1,000 donation for Brigada Today needs.  I send this because you are a deep thinker about what is needed to complete the Great Commission. The past 14 years living in the Middle East has helped me to see that there are no shortcuts when it comes to disciple making in all people groups.  I do think there are redundancies that are slowing us down.  Moving fast with fervor and faith does not honor the Lord if we don’t coordinate and we waste resources.  Coordinating our efforts requires communication and Brigada Today addresses that need.  So I give this $1,000 to encourage you to keep up your efforts at getting the Great Commission minded workers around the world better coordinated.” This note carried with it a PayPal gift of $1000. Whoa. Sobering. And exciting all at the same time. I’m happy that, throughout all of 2011, we haven’t asked for a cent. As you know, our strategy was just to carry on quietly, with the hopes that someone would feel called this December to help us reach our financial budget goal of $17,120 for the year. This is the same goal we’ve had for the past few years  — not a penny more. Thus far, we’ve had $9406.27 come in as checks to Team Expansion and gifts just in the last couple of weeks, all of which means — we’re still way short from our budget goal. If you or someone you know could make it happen, would you give generously this week? Maybe your church would consider an end-of-year gift from one-time funds that they’ve held in case of an emergency? Either way, it’s easy to give. And we appreciate Dave!!!

9) A Personal Appeal from “Dave,” a Missions Minister in Georgia –

[Here’s an excerpt from Dave’s note, which just arrived this past week:]

“Just sent a contribution for Brigada and wanted to say thanks so much for the incredible amount of work you put into resourcing all of us out here. I don’t think it’s possible to measure the value I receive from all the information and networking found in the Brigada updates, to say nothing of the people I am able to connect with specific information or opportunities that help them find a way to further use their passion and giftedness for Kingdom purposes. I’m trusting God’s people will step up and a wave of generosity will overwhelm this ministry’s need. And in that I hope you find a sense of affirmation that what you are doing (sometimes late at night :) ) is making an eternal difference. Merry Christmas to you and yours, Dave”

Dave’s note carried with it a PayPal gift of $1000. Whoa. Sobering. And exciting all at the same time. The truth is, it indeed does cost money. This past week, I learned that a major Christian publishing house had folded. I’m thankful that, throughout all of 2011, we haven’t asked for a cent. As you know, our strategy was just to carry on quietly, with the hopes that someone would feel called this December to help us reach our financial budget goal of $17,120 for the year. This is the same goal we’ve had for the past few years  — not a penny more. Thus far, we’ve had $7711.88 come in as checks to Team Expansion and gifts just in the last couple of weeks, all of which means — we’re still way short from our budget goal. If you or someone you know could make it happen, would you give generously this week? Maybe your church would consider an end-of-year gift from one-time funds that they’ve held in case of an emergency? Either way, it’s easy to give. Just click the “Donate” link at the top of the page at brigada.org. You won’t have to register with PayPal if you don’t want to. (Just click “make a payment without logging in” if you prefer.) Thanks to those who have suggested this cause to their local church missions teams. We appreciate you! And we appreciate Dave!!!

9) A Personal Appeal from Doug Lucas, Founder/Editor of Brigada –

I didn’t set about to start a weekly missions resource email and website. I set about to find answers. The sad thing was — some of the information was out there… we just weren’t getting the news out about it. I started asking evangelical missions leaders how we could fix that. We started sharing resources with one another… and by mid-January, 1995, we brought Brigada to life to solve the problem. Suddenly, here we are, nearly 17 years later, still carrying the torch. I’ll admit, sometimes the pace of life is such that I have to gut it out. I’ll also admit that it would really help to have an assistant. We also get involved in launching projects among unreached peoples and cities. In fact, we recently spun off an initiative called Unleashed for the Unreached. See the website at…

http://www.UnleashedForTheUnreached.com

to try to get the word out. The costs for creating the 140-foot exhibit that you see there exceeded $6000. But the capacity to inform, inspire, and increase the Good News getting to the least reached … well, it’s tremendous. I’m loving what I’m doing. I’m excited to get up in the morning. But it indeed does cost money. Throughout all of 2011, we haven’t asked. Our strategy was to just quietly carry on, with the hopes that someone would feel called this December to help us reach our financial budget goal of $17,120 for the year. This is the same goal we’ve had for the past few years  — not a penny more. Thus far, we’ve had $5081.88 come in as checks to Team Expansion. (Just click “make a payment without logging in” if you prefer.) 10) The BackPage: “What Can We Buy or Make for Christmas?” –

That was the question that a good friend of Brigada asked this past week. He wrote, “Jackie and I have learned contentment to the point that ‘gift giving’ has become a challenge. What can we buy or make that doesn’t add unwanted clutter to our home, or calories to our waist? If you face this same challenge, I’d be interested to know what ideas you have come up with.” I was wondering… could we ask for your input on this question? Just click “Comments” below. Write a message in the box. You can do so anonymously if you choose. You will not be put on a list. Your information will be guarded.

12) The BackPage: Would you Consider a Generous Gift to Brigada? –

Since January, 1995, we’ve operated Brigada Today as a free publication. With over 10,000 subscribers, some have said that Brigada just might be the longest-running, largest-circulating missions ezine on the entire web. Yet, some might not realize that we don’t have a large staff, nor do we sell ads. We feel that to do so would jeopardize the purity and simplicity of a simple missions mobilization and resource publication. We do, however, accept gifts from likeminded believers who want Brigada to continue.

Those savvy enough to look for publishing times have noted previously that many Brigadas are posted well into the dark of the night. It’s true — we’d stay up to produce this publication even if we were doing it for free (and we did so for many years, purely as volunteers). But your gifts of $100 (or whatever amount you desire to share) not only help undergird the work of our favorite charity (Team Expansion), they also pay the power and light so more Brigadas can inform more nations about more unreached peoples the world over.

So as you and your family enjoy, perhaps, a traditional Thanksgiving meal, would you consider sending a check or making an online donation? To give online, just navigate to

http://www.brigada.org

then click “Donate” in the upper right and follow the instructions. By the way, you don’t need a PayPal account to give. If you reach a screen asking for your PayPal I.D., look on the left side of the screen, about halfway down, and find the prompt which says, “Continue without a PayPal Account.” If you’d rather send an old-fashioned check, just make it payable to Team Expansion and send it to:

(And by the way, Team Expansion is a 501(c)3 incorporation so for USA citizens, your checks made out to Team Expansion are tax-deductible.) Thanks to those who have suggested this cause to their local church missions committees, mission teams, and/or missions ministers/pastors. We appreciate you!

11) The Easiest $10 You’ve Ever Given Away to Brigada —

If you’ve ever purchased anything online before, or if you plan to do so in the near future, this just might be the easiest $10 you’ll ever give away. Glance through these steps — and if you’re willing to follow them, shortly after your first online purchase, Brigada will receive $10 in cash, in your name, just because you tried out the service.

First, point your browser to…

http://www.ebates.com/rf.do?referrerid=NFoc8Og53v9vfVwTp4UhSA%3D%3D

Second, select “My ebates” in the topline menu. Choose “cashback method” and change the checkbox to “donate” then choose “Check” made to Team Expansion, 4112 Old Routt Road, Louisville, KY 40299. Then select “Update.”

Third, if you’d rather not receive promotional mailings from ebates.com, click on “Subscriptions,” and check the box at the bottom that says, “Unsubscribe from all promotional emails.” Ebates has a very strong privacy policy and a 100% “A+” rating with the Better Business Bureau. Based on their past track record, you will *not* be spammed – Period.

That’s all there is to it. Now take a moment to look through all the stores. For example, next time you order something from Buy.com, or Lowes or Autozone, Diapers.com or Kmart, Barnes and Noble, Staples, Vistaprint, Walmart, Sam’s Wholesale, Sears, Verizon, Sprint, JCPenney, NewEgg, TigerDirect, Circuit City, Buy.com, Orbitz, Marriott, Priceline, Expedia, Hotels.com, REI, Bass Pro, Under Armour, and about 1200 other stores — *anytime* you click through the ebates.com site (making sure you’re still logged in), when you buy like normal, the vendor you visit through eBates will send a cash gift to Brigada afterward. Your summary statement will always tell you how much you’ve donated. We’re happy to furnish you with a tax-deductible receipt for that amount.

So to summarize — follow the simple steps above to log on to ebates.com, using the link above. Then, find the store (where you were already going to buy something online anyway), use the ebates link to click there, make your purchases as usual (perhaps saving something along the way because ebates constantly makes available coupons for your use). You’ll see at the ebates page, within a day or so, the amount you’re saving as a donation to Brigada (which is a ministry of Team Expansion). That’s all! You never pay any membership fees. If you’ve always wanted to send a gift to Brigada but just never got around to it, at least by following this method, a percentage of everything you buy *will* help Brigada. In fact, just by signing up and making your first purchase through the service, you’ll be sending Brigada a $10 gift right off the bat. If 100 people sign up, that’s a $1000 one-time gift, and all you will have had to do is try the service one time! By the way, one of our Team Expansion workers has been using this service for quite some time and they really honestly do pay out in checks — and the money really does come. It might not be big, but it really does come, and small gifts would add up if many people took part. Thanks for checking it out. As always, we’ll report accurate figures here as to what happens.

11) Last and Final Call for Help for the 2010 Budget Year —

As is our custom, we recognize the fact that some folks might have made out checks on Dec. 31st (at least we hope some someones did). As a result, we’ll report on giving for 2010 in just one more issue — next week’s. We’ll also lump online giving with 2010 as well — for just one more week. So here’s one last appeal to anyone and everyone that can help us make up this shortfall. The total so far for 2010 is $8,182.90. Our goal was 17,120. That means we are on our last lap, praying for $8937.10. We’re confident there are some people, churches, and agencies that could just grant that entire amount. They could write a check for $2500 or $1000. May God raise them up this final week. To underwrite the costs of 2010 and be a part of empowering Brigada on into the future for roughly 10,000 subscribers in countries all over the globe, just click the “Donate” link at the top of the page at brigada.org. You won’t have to register with PayPal if you don’t want to. (Just click “make a payment without logging in” if you prefer.) We can also set up a regular once-a-month automatic withdraw from your checking account or major credit card. Or, if you prefer, just send an old-fashioned check each month, payable to Team Expansion to: Team Expansion (Brigada), 13711 Willow Reed Dr., Louisville, KY 40299. (Team Expansion is a 501(c)3 incorporation so for USA citizens, your checks made out to Team Expansion are tax-deductible.) Thanks to those who have suggested this cause to their local church missions teams. We appreciate you!

11) Yikes — one more week left to Partner with Brigada –

There’s just one more week of giving left in 2010. Yikes — we’ve got a ways to go. If you or your church can jump in, please do so today. Approach your church, ask a friend, or pray that God would empower your finances to pitch in directly. Any amount would help, but all we need is 98 “True Fans” of Brigada giving $100 each and we’re 100% there. Just click the “Donate” link at the top of the page at brigada.org. You won’t have to register with PayPal if you don’t want to. (Just click “make a payment without logging in” if you prefer.) 11) Only Two Weeks Left to Donate to Brigada 2010 Campaign –

Approach your church, ask a friend, or pray that God would empower your finances to pitch in directly. Any amount would help, but all we need is 98 “True Fans” of Brigada giving $100 each and we’re 100% there. Just click the “Donate” link at the top of the page at brigada.org. 12) Just 3 Brigadas left in 2010; Your last 3 chances to help! –

If you were hoping to help in 2010, here are your last 3 chances (the editions for Dec. 19, Dec. 26, and January 2). God be praised that $5897.90 has come in so far in 2010, leaving just $11,222 to go to reach our goal of $17,120. Gulp. Seems so far in such a short time. Want to help? Just click the “Donate” link at the top of the page at brigada.org. You won’t have to register with PayPal if you don’t want to. (Just click “make a payment without logging in” if you prefer.) We can also set up a regular once-a-month automatic withdraw from your checking account or major credit card.
