1) WANT INFO ON UNREACHED PEOPLE GROUPS? — Check out the JPII download files and PDF peoples by country at…

http://www.joshuaproject.net/datacomplete.html

The Joshua Project II data are all on the web and have been recently refreshed. Thanks to Dan Scribner and the whole JPII team!… and to World Help for adopting them!

2) THE BEST OF MISSIONS-CRYPTOGRAPHY — Here it is… everything you’ve always wanted to learn about missions cryptography but were afraid to ask. A while back, some loyal and faithful Brigada participants got together to discuss encryption and other related topics . . . and they just kept on meeting! Well here’s a compilation of a “best-of the dialog” over the last year+. Folks on the list have ok’d it for public distribution. Thanks to John Hanna for putting it together for us here! To get a copy, just send a message to <missions-cryptoatbrigadadotorg>. Be aware that the file is 136K.</missions-cryptoatbrigadadotorg>

3) TRAIN TO LEAD SHORT-TERM MISSION TRIPS — There is still time to register for the 5th Annual Short-Term Ministry Leaders Training Seminar conducted by COMMIT Ministries and Gateway Mission Training Center, April 25-27 in Honolulu, Hawaii. This is a 3-day intensive interactive training seminar that provides each participant with proven, cutting-edge methods and information; everything needed to implement an effective short-term ministry program or augment existing programs. This seminar covers most all short-term issues including in depth pre-field training, team dynamics, on-site materials, and comprehensive debriefing. Since 1997, more than 350 short-term mission leaders from churches and agencies have completed this program and have had very positive results. You can too. The seminar will be held in the Penthouse at the Outrigger Waikiki Surf Hotel; cost is only $199 which includes materials and tuition. Other short-term ministry resources will be made available including an on-site interactive training tool that has been tested and proven in the field as well as a privately published team leaders debriefing manual. A special 3 night and meal package is available at a cost of $199 (double occupancy) and low cost airfare is available through COMMIT Ministries Travel. Contact Greg or Ray for registration materials or more information by e-mail: <commitatjunodotcom>.</commitatjunodotcom>

4) TOOL UP TO HELP WITH ECONOMIC START-UPS — The Christian Economic Development Institute is coming, May 20-31, 2002. Be sure to register before April 8th for the lowest rate. If you are seeking a way to help the poor transform their lives, but don’t know how or where to start, this training is for you. Faculty and facilitators are experienced practitioners who have served both overseas and in the US. The Institute is sponsored by the Chalmers Center for Economic Development, in partnership with Food for the Hungry, World Relief and Christian Community Development Association and will be held on the campus of Covenant College, Lookout Mountain, Georgia (USA). For full details and an application, see the Chalmers Center’s website:

http://www.chalmers.org or contact the Chalmers Center at <chalmersatcovenantdotedu>.</chalmersatcovenantdotedu>

______________________________________________________________________

5) LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO TEACH ENGLISH? — Look no further. The Church of the Brethren needs volunteer English teachers in the Dominican Republic. Any baptized, committed Christian can apply. For more information, please contact Dan <dmcfadden_gbatbrethrendotorg> or call </dmcfadden_gbatbrethrendotorg>

1-800-323-8039 or 1-847-742-5100.

______________________________________________________________________

6) OPTIONS FOR OUTREACH — Want to reach out to orphans in China and Russia? Go short- or long-term. Help with children’s ministry, train childcare workers, be a physical or occupational therapist, or a special education teacher. Keep in mind, you’ll need to raise your own support. If interested, contact Jeff <mupinfoatmupdotorg> at Mission to Unreached Peoples to learn more about these opportunities. 1-888-847-6950 or 206-781-3151. Also see…</mupinfoatmupdotorg>

http://www.mup.org .

______________________________________________________________________

7) SHARE YOUR WISDOM FOR FURLOUGH “DE-STRESSING” — Visiting family, friends, and supporters is a blessing and a “stressing” for young families. Young children don’t always remember life before the field and the constant moving, visiting, and being “on stage” is difficult – especially for those short 1-3 month furloughs. Can you share your wisdom and practical experience? Phil & his wife have two boys [age 4-6] and they need to reduce the anticipated stress of traveling and being in people’s homes. What are your good ways to make less obtrusive housing arrangements, saving money, scheduling visits & reports and connecting with people? How do you insure quality time with family and friends who have busy lives and maybe haven’t seen you in a long time? Send your responses to <philatlookforwarddotorg> and he’ll compile them and make them available in a few weeks. (Thanks Phil!)</philatlookforwarddotorg>

______________________________________________________________________

8) COMMUNICATING BY DRAMA — The folks at ‘Dramashare’ are in the final stages of an exciting project, writing a manual on the use of non-verbal dramatic ministry in cross-cultural circumstances. This manual, “3C – Cross-Cultural Creativity” will cover what short-term missions teams need to understand about this type of outreach, preparation for the ministry, training required. They will also have many non-verbal scripts included in the manual.

They are looking for input from those who have experience in cross-cultural ministry, also from those looking for this kind of guidance, what specific information are you looking for? The more input they receive the greater the potential that the 3C program will have the greatest impact on your needs. Write to: contactusatdramasharedotorg .

______________________________________________________________________

9) LIGHT TO THE NATIONS — Here are five days of intensive, high quality training for people interested in tentmaking. Understand tentmaking and get equipped to be effective. Topics include: Importance of tentmaking today, Biblical basis of tentmaking, Culture shock & how to deal with it, The international job market, Effective, sensitive evangelism, Leading investigative Bible studies, Bonding with the people, Spiritual warfare and disciplines, Church planting, Home church relationship, Healthy team relationships, Preparing for effectiveness, and Practical issues. You can choose from two courses in 2002: May 15-19 in Cary, NC October 16-20 in Pasadena, CA. Register at

Call 562/944-0351 x 5694 or contact <kitty_purgasonatpeterdotbioladotedu> or visit www.biola.edu/academics/sics/essentials_tesol.cfm </kitty_purgasonatpeterdotbioladotedu>

5) IMMEDIATE OPPORTUNITIES IN SOUTH EAST ASIA AND WORLDWIDE – Want to reach those in SE Asia? Mission to Unreached People is looking for Teacher Trainers with a Masters degree (preferable). For more info., contact Jeff at 1-888-847-6950 or (206) 781-3151 or on the web at http://www.mup.org or write <mupinfoatmupdotorg>. </mupinfoatmupdotorg>

And as always, look for more of these kinds of opportunities by joining Brigada-opportunities. It’s like having a free placement service combined with a free “headhunter” service (the friendly kind) all in one! If you’re looking for a place to serve, where God can use your special gifts, just send a note to

<brigada-opportunities-subscribeatyahoogroupsdotcom>. </brigada-opportunities-subscribeatyahoogroupsdotcom>

That will make you a member of the email conference, where you will be able to sit back and receive occasional announcements about mission needs.

And if you’ve got an opportunity, please subscribe to publish your job option or ministry need, even if you only stay on the conference temporarily. Just join per the above instructions, then once you’ve heard that you’re subscribed (probably about 2 minutes later), email a note to <brigada-opportunitiesategroupsdotcom>. You’ll be placing your notice in front of many who are searching for opportunities like yours! When the prospective volunteer hits reply, the reply goes straight to the person who sent the message (not to the whole conference). So go for it! I hope your need will be met *today*! (Apologies to those who try to list job opportunities for specific roles; we just can’t possibly publish all of them.) </brigada-opportunitiesategroupsdotcom>

6) WEBWATCH — Looking for ideas for your agency’s webpage? Check out

http://www.gfa.org . Notice how many things the visitor can do with one click. Look at the clear site navigation, using the bar at the left-hand side. Notice how many different kinds of readers are served… those wanting to sponsor a national, those looking for news, there’s a free book offer, you can read past articles, find out what’s new, even sign up for free web mail! I think the GFA site significantly raises the bar for mission web pages. Great work GFA!!!

MARY POPPINS, WHERE ARE YOU?

Are you (or do you know) a mature, Christian woman who would like to volunteer to be a “nanny” for a stressed out and overly busy mission family? Many such families need some help with their kids and other domestic chores. Anywhere from six weeks to a year or even more would be a great blessing. A ministry named “Mission Nannys” has appeared to help fill that need. Mission Nannys matches requests from missionaries for domestic help and nannies with those women who would like to help. More at http://MissionNannys.org, or email Betty at bettyatmissionnannysdotorg  (bettyatmissionnannysdotorg)  .

LOOKING FOR A GREAT WAY TO SHARE YOUR PICTURES ONLINE?

Try clicking over to… http://www.clubphoto.com Its creators have brought together seemingly the best collection of tools — for computers and palmtops — for seemingly the greatest price: free! That’s right. . . you can upload your images and view them on the web for free. Invite others to view them too, we understand. Membership is free, apparently, though you’ll sure be tempted to buy all the special items for sale with your pictures pasted on them! (Mugs, shirts, etc.) This would be a great way for on-field workers to share photos with folks back home . . . yet they wouldn’t have to put together a whole website. Check it out!

Emphasis is placed on items relating to unreached peoples and challenges faced by those reaching them cross-culturally.

not symbolPLEASE DON’T SUBSCRIBE US TO YOUR LIST — It’s always better to ask before manually force-adding anyone to your list-serve or mailing list. Recently, tons of well-meaning people have been subscribing Doug to their lists. Since he often travels overseas, he doesn’t join many of those, for obvious reasons (like being charged big-time for overseas access). So as a general rule, please don’t bulk-mail us! See the note above if you’d like to submit items for Brigada Today. Thanks for understanding. Bottom line: We will never create Brigada Today items from bulk mail. Bulk mail gets deleted immediately — sorry. Nothing personal. We suggest you apply the same standard to everyone. Ask first!

OPCWARNING ABOUT FORWARDING EMAILS — Please, before forwarding any kind of request (even if it says “please send this to all your friends”), please check to make sure it has a VERIFIABLE ORIGIN, a VERIFIABLE PURPOSE, and a VERIFIABLE CLOSURE (OPC). By following this simple approach, many “email viruses” could be nipped in the bud… at least in the Brigada family. More information about the full Brigada OPC protocol is available. Thank you.

GOT BUSINESS CARDS? GET ‘EM FREE

I saw this URL float by my inbox, but I didn’t give it much thought ’til my buddy actually used it to order a set of 250 free (free) business cards of his own! Well I’ve got a copy of his right here on my desk and . . . guess what! They look GREAT! Colorful, substantial, and . . . you actually lay them out over the web! They’re pretty snazzy. And you can’t beat the price (FREE! :-) ). Here’s the disclaimer. My buddy got one free dollar bill when I ordered my business cards from his referral . . . and . . . I guess Brigada would get one free dollar bill if a reader orders cards using the link below. The great part is… here’s a chance to order something free . . . and help Brigada. (The downside is… it’ll set you back $4.95 for the postage to send them to you. :-) ) So anyway… bottom line… if you need 250 business cards and you’ve got $5, you’re in luck . . . and Brigada is too! :-) :-)

http://service.bfast.com/bfast/click?bfmid=36985903&siteid=38374542&bfpage=homepage

Thanks in advance, if you’re one of the folks who needs cards! And hey… set up your free cards, get signed on so you can refer others, then those $1 referral bonuses will come your way as well! :-) And here’s the greatest part of all !!! International participants are more than welcome to order cards and participate in the referral program! Yahoooo! Yahoo Finally, life is good for international folks! :-) :-)

ARISE, SHINE MOROCCO!

praying hands Today only about one in fifty thousand Moroccans is a believer and in fellowship. Yet after more than a century of missionary endeavor, many believe the time is ripe for breakthrough in Morocco. Expat workers and national believers in Morocco have announced plans for an international Year of Prayer for Morocco and its peoples (YOP4M) in 2002. A video resource, a “52 Weeks of Prayer” booklet, and other materials are being produced for distribution. Prayer requests and praise reports from all regions of Morocco will be sent to participants around the world throughout 2002. Short-term teams will be coordinated. A global network must now be established. If you can help with this need or are interested in YOP4M please contact the International Facilitators at YOP4Mathotmaildotcom  (YOP4Mathotmaildotcom)  . You are invited to play an important part in this effort.

OPERATION WORLD 2001 BULK PURCHASE BY MAY 10TH!

book If you’d like to partner with the US Center on Operation World bulk purchases, you’d better act fast. The publishing company has given them a May 11th deadline. Operation World is coming out in the fall, and you can get in on bulk pre-publication pricing. The U.S. Center for World Mission is again offering Operation World at cost (or as close as they can get!) which should be $4.95 or less including shipping to you (sorry, U.S. addresses only). Last time we all got together and purchased 100,000 copies before the presses started rolling. If you are interested in 100 or more copies of Operation World 2001 for (about) $4.95 delivered to U.S. addresses, email to ow2001atuscwmdotorg  (ow2001atuscwmdotorg)   with your contact information (name, address, phone) and a quantity. You can also call 626-398-2328. They cannot go for fewer copies, so it would be a waste of Internet bandwidth to ask. :-) And just in case you were wondering, the book is not out yet, but should be sometime in September.

WHAT TO DO WITH JOB OFFERS/REQUESTS

Brigada Logo We sometimes receive notices for job openings, many of which are in 10/40 window nations. In general, it’s difficult to publish all those, since this list is typically reserved for news that would hopefully impact larger numbers of users rather than one user at a time. For example, here’s a school for the children of Christian workers located in Ankara Turkey. By this fall, they need at least 3 more elementary teachers and at least 2 more junior high teachers (state certification required; experience preferred). They even provide enough stipend to cover housing. (Teachers need to raise the remainder of their support. For more info, write Rhonda kwiestatattglobaldotnet  (kwiestatattglobaldotnet)  .) But unfortunately, we just can’t make this newsletter into a “job line.” There are nearly 10,000 subscribers… and this notice would eventually impact just 5 of them. However, we have launched a service that can help in this and many other cases. It’s called “Brigada-Opportunities.” It’s like having a free placement service combined with a free “headhunter” service (the friendly kind) all in one! If you’re searching for the right opportunity, just send a note to brigada-opportunities-subscribeategroupsdotcom  (brigada-opportunities-subscribeategroupsdotcom)  . And if you’ve got an opportunity, just email the note to brigada-opportunitiesategroupsdotcom  (brigada-opportunitiesategroupsdotcom)  . (Those with opportunities don’t actually have to join — their email will float into the conference even though they’re not subscribed! That way, they get to place their notice and those who are searching for the opportunity get to read the mail! When the volunteer hits reply, the reply goes straight to the person who sent the message (not to the whole conference). So… those with job options — please try Brigada-Opportunities! And if you’re searching, please subscribe there.

Thanks to for hosting the Brigada mailing list.

Thank you.
