  1. THANKS TO THOSE PARTNERING WITH US! — Thanks *tons* to those partnering with us as sponsors. Included this week are Charmaine (who sent $40 via PayPal) and Eric (writing from Sweden, having sent $25, commented, “Doug, … I rejoice in the Lord for all that Brigada has meant to me over the years. I can’t remember when I first subscribed, but its been a good while. I may be like many an ole missionary who reads them, or more accurately, scans them, gleans from them and thanks God for your labor to put it together! Please know that you have ministered to me through your labor many times and more than once I found more than information, I found motivation! God Bless YOU and the team, e” — Thanks Eric!). These anonymous partners aren’t giving to promote the sale of a product. They just believe in the Brigada “Cause”. They’ve been added to our sponsors page at: http://www.brigada.org then click on “Sponsors” Thanks to your gifts and our new secretary, we’re catching up on a back-log of Brigada Today editions that were way too far delayed. Thanks for your patience!!!

  2. PEOPLE GROUP WEBSITE — Search more than 11,000 people groups by name, country, religion, language or status of evangelisation. You can download a list of all the world’s people groups as well as related tables and charts. http://www.peoplegroups.org (Thanks Tony!)

  3. SHORT-TERM MISSION TRIP LEADERSHIP MANUALS — Innovative Mission Opportunities’ http://www.imoi.org mission is to share Jesus with those people groups that have never heard His name or the truth about Him. Innovative staff leads two week trips into the 10/40 Window. Innovative is wanting to write a manual for team leaders. Do any readers know of any manuals out there Innovative may be able to obtain for ideas and assistance? Innovative has a basic outline of what to include in their manual but thought they might get some other ideas and suggestions from other manuals/organizations. Members of the staff have read about short-term trip leading training on Brigada. Please contact rpickensatimoidotorg with any questions. Once they complete their team leader manual, we’ll ask Innovative to make copies available here on Brigada.

  4. 10,000 PRAYERS FOR NORTH KOREA LAUNCHED! — NK Missions (The World Center for North Korea Missions) is calling people worldwide to join together in urgent prayer for North Korea. As part of NK AWAKE, an International Prayer and Mobilization Campaign, NK Missions is boldly calling for 10,000 prayers to be posted online for North Korea. May these prayers stir others to pray and may they be used to open the doors of North Korea. visit http://www.nkmissions.com/prayers/

  5. TOOLBOX FOR PRODUCING MISSIONS VIDEOS — Here’s a virtual toolbox to help you produce your next mission video, thanks to Brigada sponsor John Walton. Entitled “Toolbox for Video Storytelling,” it’s the one best source to help you learn to document your cross-cultural work via video in a top-notch manner. Please check out the book at John’s website, http://www.VillageAve.com/Brigada so he’ll know you saw his sponsorship link here. John helps you think through your storyline (thinking stories, not topics), organize your ideas, and develop your script (using “modules”). Then he models video and photography tips while providing great examples on the accompanying CD inside the book’s back jacket cover. He addresses both the technical side of things (e.g., sound, lighting, and camera technique) as well as the artsy side (shooting a picture story, continuity, and organization). By the way, John, the author, just sent a sponsorship payment of $110 for our new Brigada secretary! He wrote, ” 22 books ordered, through the end of August, $110 to Brigada. That’s 2 more than I hoped would sell.” So… John… thanks for the sponsorship… and Brigada audience, thanks for ordering John’s book! :-)

  6. GET A SCRIPTURE-ADDRESS WHILE YOU RAISE FUNDS — Need to raise funds? Want to showcase the Word? Check out.. http://www.scripturemail.com/Index_02.lasso They fix you up with a scripture verse email address (addresses start at $9/year), then when you generate other scripture mail, you raise new support for your venture. We aren’t promoting it as a fund-raise for Brigada, but maybe you would want to choose to do so for your own ministry funding. (Thanks Mark!)

  7. MISSIONARY TRAINING CAMPS — Something has happened in your heart, you feel you have a call to missions involvement; now what do you do? The Missionary Training Camps present a wide range of spiritual and practical issues to help people prepare for missions work. CBS tells selected biblical stories in chronological order in an effort to bring people to genuine faith in Christ, mature discipleship, and fruitful Christian service. Storying is based entirely upon the Bible and is chosen because it is a primary communication vehicle of the target people. Stories are selected based upon the universal biblical truth to be communicated and upon identified barriers in the target people’s worldview. Storying is structured to give an “oral” Bible to individuals and to develop the competency to share it orally. Dates for this course, taught by Dr. Grant Lovejoy, are May 28-June 20, 2003 at the Center for Intercultural Training campus in North Carolina. It has glossaries to help speakers of each dialect understand the rest of the material. The dialects are sufficiently similar to Pulaar Futa that those speakers may also find it accessible. 7. SEEKING YOUR OPINION ABOUT MED. INSURANCE FOR MISSIONARIES — Here’s a study being done by Mark on missions insurance programs. He is wondering which options would be acceptable or preferable to you and your church:

    (1) That a mission agency provides health insurance as a group plan even though the costs might be higher than individual coverage for many missionaries?

    (2) That a mission agency work with the sending church to help individuals and families to find the best individual policy for themselves which will provide lower coverage for many but perhaps leave some without coverage?

Respond to Mark <mskiatearthlinkdotnet> with a #1 or #2 and he’ll let us know the results in a week or two. Thanks! (Thanks Mark.) </mskiatearthlinkdotnet>

  1. A TALKING BIBLE SUNDAY — Audio Scriptures International in California is offering a Free Copy of its revolutionary, new, patented Talking Bible in Spanish or English to the first 100 churches responding to this announcement in Brigada Today. The only condition attached to this offer is that the church must commit to demonstrate the Talking Bible during the worship service on its designated Talking Bible Sunday followed by a special offering to help provide Talking Bibles for those who cannot read. ASI’s free offer is intended to jump start a larger movement dubbed “The Talking Bible Sunday Movement.” ASI believes the time is right to launch a movement similar to the Gideons who give millions of printed Bibles to readers. A similar, parallel movement is needed now to provide Talking Bibles for nonreaders. Churches observing a “Talking Bible Sunday” will help ASI’s Talking Bible Project provide Talking Bibles with the translated Scriptures in audio in languages needed for the millions who cannot read. A church requesting a Bible or wanting more information should call ASI at 760- 745-8105.

  2. HELP WANTED: EDITOR/EVANGELIST FOR ONLINE MINISTRY TO MUSLIMS — Interested in winning Muslims to Christ? IsaalMasih.Net is a ministry of the Christian Answers Network, a non-denominational, faith-mission mega-site receiving over 1.3 million hits daily. Many missionaries spend a lifetime waiting for the kind of response that this site gathers on a regular basis! Their multilingual ministry to Muslims was created in early 2002 as a unique approach to sharing the truth about Jesus and the Gospel using terminology and a context that Muslims are most comfortable with–sensitive to their culture. This effective ministry regularly attracts seekers with an interest in Jesus and the Bible. If you’d like more information, please e-mail <mailatisaalmasihdotnet  (mailatisaalmasihdotnet)  >. Or visit http://IsaalMasih.Net to chat live with the current coordinator.

  3. SHORT-TERM MISSION GEAR STORE DEFUNCT — Best we can tell, the short-term “mission store” reported on in last week’s Brigada Today is now defunct. The toll-free number no longer functions… and the website is no longer up and running. We apologize for any inconvenience. (We composed last week’s issue while helping with a retreat in the mountains of Tennessee and therefore couldn’t check to make sure all sites were current. Again — our apologies!)

  4. VOLUNTEER TRAVEL INSURANCE — Adams & Associates International offers several medical plans for volunteers traveling outside their country of citizenship for short and intermediate term mission service. For those on short term projects just ask for Volunteer Travel Insurance, which is designed for those who will not cancel their major medical insurance stateside. For longer periods of travel, when a domestic medical plan would not provide coverage, then ask for PLP Travel Medical Insurance. On-line enrollment is available, but they prefer to counsel each client first to best determine their respective needs. Contact Adams & Associates International at 1-800-922-8438 or by email at <aaiataaintldotcom  (aaiataaintldotcom)  >. They’ve asked that you add “Brigada” to the subject line when sending an email message so they’ll know how you heard about them.

  5. AFGHANISTAN PRAYER VIDEO IN TWO VERSIONS WITH PRAYER BLITZ — This is a professional production, the first in the Carey Taylor Tool Box series emphasizing the importance of prayer for selected people groups. One version includes a creative emphasis on spiritual warfare, the other is more traditional. The one minute prayer blitz, suitable for youth groups, is included on the video and is also available in RealMedia format for free. Available in VHS, PAL, DVD, and VCD. Go to http://www.spearbooks.com to learn more and order online or email <infoatspearbooksdotcom  (infoatspearbooksdotcom)  >.

  6. BE PART OF A SHORT-TERM MEDICAL MISSIONS TEAM — Project Compassion announces its 2003 trip schedule. Project Compassion has provided short-term medical missions trips for over 10 years. By partnering with missionaries, local churches, and health officials, Project Compassion conducts evangelical medical clinics throughout the world. Several churches have been planted as a direct result of these outreaches. Medical skills or not, you can be a part of evangelism with a short- term medical team. Check out http://www.ProjectCompassion.org for trip locations and details. You can also e- mail <infoatProjectCompassiondotorg  (infoatProjectCompassiondotorg)  >.

  7. WORLD PRAYER CENTER OFFERS SITE — According to my good friend Dan, there is now a way to have your most urgent prayer requests remembered by thousands of people around the world at the speed of light. Whenever you have a need, post your request to this service anytime of the day or night, 365 days a year, and it will be prayed for immediately, not hours or days later. According to Dan, a team of concerned Christians all around the world is waiting right now to pray for your needs, or to welcome you to join their team to pray for others. It is all very high- tech, operated in real-time on the Internet. Dan says you’ll have to see it to believe it, so check it out now. Go to: http://www.worldprayerteam.org By the way, the World Prayer Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, operates the site. Dan insists that there is never a fee and that all names are kept confidential.

  8. TESOL TRAINING/PRACTICUM AMONG UNREACHED PEOPLE GROUP -– Asia’s Center for TESOL has a five week intensive TESOL course taught by an experienced American instructor and includes a teaching practicum among students of an unreached people group. The course dates are April 7th – May 9th, 2002. The cost is only $500 US dollars, this includes board, lodging, 5 books, and curriculum. The cost for Philippine citizens is P15,000 pesos. 9. XBRL INTERNATIONAL’S MISSION — “Transforming Business Reporting” took on new urgency and importance in 2002. High profile financial abuses in the United States and elsewhere brought unprecedented international focus on accounting practices and the need for greater transparency in financial reporting. The XBRL International consortium represents over 170 organizations around the world committed to transparency and the efficient transfer of information. In that spirit, see the XBRL web site at http://www.xbrl.org . In particular, if you’re into those sort of discussions, see the white papers at: http://www.xbrl.org/resourcecenter/whitepapers.asp?sid=21 (Thanks Ed!)

  10. KEEP IN TOUCH FROM ANYWHERE! — Purchase a refurbished Motorola 9500 Iridium satellite phone for $535. This is the phone that has almost complete global coverage, even the middle of the ocean! This phone is being replaced by the 9505 which is a bit smaller and sells for $1,500. Missionaries or missions-minded churches pay a small monthly charge and pay by the minute for usage. Or, save money by buying a package of minutes and pay no monthly fee. Send out your next overseas team with a sat phone. Only a few left at this price. Contact Chandra Birdwell at 512-260-2899, or <chandradotbirdwellatgitsatdotcom  (chandradotbirdwellatgitsatdotcom)  >. To get that price, tell her that Eddie <usprayercenteratcsdotcom  (usprayercenteratcsdotcom)  > suggested that you call. (Thanks Eddie!)

Dr. Dan Fountain, one of the leading voices in medical missions, is involved with King College and providing some great courses. In January he is offering one on Short Term Medical Missions. 5. LIFE TIME MISSION OPPORTUNITIES AT HOME AND ABROAD — John wrote this past week to exhort us to try to lift up *lifetime* missions commitments, as opposed to short-terms only. He wrote, “When Isaiah saw the Lord ‘high and lifted up’ (Isaiah 6) he saw the eternal King, holy, righteous and glorious and he was devastated by this wonderful/scary spectacle. He was able to hear and respond to the clear word from God “Whom shall I send? And Who will go for Us?” Isaiah didn’t say “I will have to pray about it.” He didn’t ask “Where?” or “To whom” He didn’t ask “For how long?” He didn’t ask “How much will I get paid?” or “How much support will I have to raise?” Isaiah responded “Here am I! Send me.” God said “Go and tell this people.” Isaiah let God take over every aspect of his life. A true salvation experience, after hearing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, doesn’t come from a response of: ‘It sounds like a good idea, I will give it a try and see how it works out.’ A conviction of sin comes from an encounter with the same God who confronted Isaiah, giving the same helpless, Hell-bound feeling. Repentance of sin brings forgiveness and forgiveness opens you to the opportunity to hear the same (continuing) word from God “Whom shall I send? And Who will go for Us?” What are YOU going to say? God wants YOUR LIFE and He knows how to look after it better than you do!!” Thanks for your thoughts, John <cwmbcattelusdotnet>! </cwmbcattelusdotnet>

  1. PRAY FOR MUSLIMS YOU LOVE — Ramadan has begun. Now you can observe the fast by praying for the Muslims that you have come to love. Just send an empty email to <pray-onat30-daysdotnet> or log on at http://www.30-days.net .

30 Days Muslim Prayer Focus calls all Christians to pray for all Muslims during Ramadan, 06 November – 05 December 2002. </pray-onat30-daysdotnet>

  2. USE THIS FREE ONLINE PROJECT MANAGEMENT APPLICATION! — Looking for a free alternative to team project management? Look no further than iTeamwork.com. iTeamwork.com is a free, online, web-based team project management application that you use with your web browser. Once a project is created, users assign tasks to team members who are then solely responsible for that task. Each member can, in turn, convert the task to a sub-project to break it down to more detailed steps or for delegating to an extended team. An integral part to the system is email notification. Each team member as well as the project manager has great flexibility in controlling the flow of email. The team can receive a list of outstanding and upcoming tasks as often as daily. Project managers can receive notification of task completion as well as other task management duties. One Brigada user wrote, “Our team has been using this new free method for goal/project management for almost two months now and has really been impressed. As with all free things, it may not have everything, but it has surprisingly more features than you might expect for a freebie service. One great item is that you can have your upcoming Personal Ministry Plan items emailed to you one to seven days of the week. One bad draw however is that it is all online. So, it would work mainly for those who have always on/available internet access. Visit their site at http://www.iteamwork.com (Thanks for the treasure-trove find, Matt!!! Great discovery! I looked up their PC Magazine review and they received *very* positive marks. Can’t believe we hadn’t announced it here before now! Well done.)

  3. PEOPLE ON THE MOVE (THE BOOK) — With nearly 500 pages (including tons of footnotes and other reference documentation), _People on the Move_ is perhaps the definitive book on nomadic life and its impact on Christianity… as well as Christianity’s impact on nomads. Written by David Phillips, a well-traveled researcher with WEC, this $20 book will be your “best buy” to learn about those who travel — as a way of life. As for me, I immediately turned to the section on East Africa, since our mission is starting up a work among a nomadic people in that part of the world. I was surprised to see just how many other nomadic peoples make up that vast part of the world. You’ll find new treasures too. Order from: Gabriel Resources 129 Mobilization Drive PO Box 1047, Waynesboro, Georgia30830-2047, or call them toll-free in the USA at 8-MORE-BOOKS or email <salesatomlitdotomdotorg>. </salesatomlitdotomdotorg>

  4. MISSIONS TEACHING OPPORTUNITY — Joy Christian Academy needs mission teachers and an administrator for their Elementary and Secondary levels in Cebu City, Philippines. Joy Christian Academy educates missionary and international children K-8 and, with plans to expand to high school, they’re a school “on the move.” All they need is additional staff. For more information contact Les Tilka at <clfcebuatinamedotcom>. </clfcebuatinamedotcom>

  5. ARE YOU WORKING IN A “SENSITIVE” COUNTRY? – Have you been diligent to observe a high level of security in all of your correspondence? If so, then you might be very surprised to find your name prominently listed as a “missionary” in that country on more than one web site! Do a web search using your full name (enclose it in quotes to limit the results). If that returns too many irrelevant hits, try including your current and past organizational affiliations in the search phrase. Depending on the sensitivity of your situation you might need to write to several webmasters asking them to remove your name from their site. Even though we might be sure that our motives are pure and noble, our host nation might misunderstand our intentions and consider us unwelcome, then act to prevent future stays in their land… or worse. A word to the wise… (Thanks to the user, who wanted to remain anonymous, for this admonition.)

  6. ESL CHILDREN’S SERMONS WANTED — Here’s a ministry looking for a website with online sermons suitable for children who speak English as a second language. The ministry would like expository sermons that go through a Bible passage (like Nicodemus), applying it to the child’s life. If you know of a source, please e-mail <titanicenglishatyahoodotcom>. We’ll ask for a report from them when they’ve gathered some options. Thanks! </titanicenglishatyahoodotcom>

  7. INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATIONS IN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT — IFCD is about to start up in South Asia. The 12-week lecture phase is designed to prepare you to minister in disadvantaged communities which desperately need the Good News in Word and Deed! Topics include Group Dynamics, Biblical Basis for Community Development ministry, Biblical World View and Development, the Church in Development, Basic Appropriate Technology and Primary Health Care, Income Generation and Economic Development, Cross-cultural issues… Field assignment and internship options post-lecture phase. Focus – South Asia and Afghanistan. Costs range from US$1200 to $250, depending on your citizenship (Western nations pay more). Pune, India, is the training location. You must have already completed U of Nations/YWAM Discipleship Training School or CDTS and you must have a heart for the poor and needy. Sessions begin on January 27th 2003. For more information, contact <comdevcentreatcompuservedotcom>. </comdevcentreatcompuservedotcom>

  8. GET YOUR TESOL TRAINING — Here’s a five week intensive TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) course in the Southern Philippines. It will include a student teaching practicum among Muslim students at a local university. The course dates are April 7 to May 9 2003. The cost is only $500 U.S. which includes board, lodging, books and resources, teacher’s fees and registration. (You pay your own air fare). The cost for Philippine citizens is P15,000 (Pesos). The course will equip you as a certified TESOL teacher and a certificate will be awarded for the course. It combines the academic with the practical. For more information contact Melody Kuka at <kzkukaatjmfdotorgdotph>. </kzkukaatjmfdotorgdotph>

  9. PERSPECTIVES ON-LINE — No Perspectives course in your area? Try Perspectives On-Line, a joint project between International Christian Ministries and the US Center for World Mission. The On-Line course can be taken for Certificate, BA and Graduate credit. The course meets the prerequisite for Perspectives Coordinator training. For more information go to: http://www.icm-international.org and then click on “Perspectives Course” and then on “Perspectives Online”. (You must be able to connect to the Internet to participate, of course).

  10. EBAY BUYS PAYPAL, REFERRALS STILL WORK! — Remember PayPal, the Internet payment service? In the past, there were times when users would complain about poor management. If you don’t believe that, just look at:
http://www.paypalsucks.com . I just love passionate people. :-) As you’ll see there, some didn’t feel fairly treated. But many others … perhaps the majority … have used the service effectively. For example, I’ve been a PayPal user now for literally years and have yet to have a single problem with them. And now they’ve been bought by eBay, which should only help their management and customer orientation. They’ve added multiple currencies and are becoming more of an international service. You still have to have an email address… and to use the service effectively, you probably still should have a USA-based bank account… but if those are possibilities for you, PayPal might be just the thing for your Internet payment or exchange. At Team Expansion, we even use it for donors who would like to give gifts to us over the web. Without exception, all of those gifts have always come through. And now, they even offer a money market option for the money you keep on hand with them. As in every Internet service, I’d suggest you be conservative and wise. Don’t keep large sums of money in your PayPal account if that makes you feel uncomfortable. But with eBay now backing them, they’re not about to go away anytime soon. If you’d like to join PayPal, and if you have an email account, a verifiable bank account, and $250 to deposit to just kick off your PayPal account, they’ll give you $5 just for joining… (so your money will immediately become $255), and what’s more, they’ll give Brigada $5 for recommending you. It’s a great way to donate to Brigada without ever having to give up a single dime. (You can always just withdraw your $255 immediately after starting your account and your PayPal membership stays in force without any “minimum balance”.) Just click on the link below to get started. It’s relatively easy: https://www.paypal.com/affil/pal=TGEFAW4NF4XE4
(By the way, you can also use this same link to make a donation to Brigada at this very moment, using any valid credit card.) Check out that currency conversion feature! Thanks for being a part of Brigada!

  2. FINALLY… A SUREFIRE WAY TO UNINSTALL — Tired of trying out software, only to find you can’t uninstall it after you try it? Get PC Mag’s new “Unclean 2” for free! Just log onto http://www.pcmag.com/utilities . It runs under virtually all versions of Windows, provides full and clear access to all available uninstall information from the Registry, and even lets you delete those pesky no- longer-valid uninstall entries in the “Add/Remove Programs” applet. In my opinion, that *alone* qualifies this utility for use! :-) And the price is right! :-) Free!

  3. PRAY FOR THE PERSECUTED CHURCH — The World Evangelical Alliance Religious Liberty Commission invites every Christian around the world to join them in the International day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP). According to organizers, more than 200 million brothers and sisters in Christ today lack full religious freedom simply because they confess Jesus Christ as Lord. On 10 and 17 November, they’re staging a joint day to come alongside them in prayer. Check it out at http://www.idop.org beginning today.

  4. GET ALL OF PERSPECTIVES IN UNDER A MONTH, IN AMSTERDAM — Caleb Project Europe will host Perspectives classes in Amsterdam in January and June of 2003. The courses will feature the same great content we’ve come to know and love from Perspectives, plus students will spend time most afternoons on the streets of Amsterdam connecting with Turks and Moroccans living there. This could be a great chance to take Perspectives, or take it again, and get a good introduction to church planting among Muslims. 1. NEED A RETREAT CENTER? — Thanks to the hard work of Jolene, now you’ve got a great list from which to work! Get her list by sending a note to: <retreat-centersatbrigadadotorg> This list of Christian Retreat Centers includes everything from a “prophet’s room” in someone’s home to a luxury resort… from quiet time alone with no interruptions to professional counseling to a full day’s activities… from a percentage off normal fees to partially subsidized to suggested donation to the ministry to completely free of charge … The focus of these centers varies from crisis counseling to solitude, worship and prayer to spiritual revitalization. This same information is also available on the Internet at the Resource Center of the International Worship & Arts Network, where additions and corrections will be made as new information is acquired. See it at: http://www.worship-arts-network.com/OCretreatcenters.html Thanks for your hard work Jolene! </retreat-centersatbrigadadotorg>

  2. ANOTHER POP-UP EXTERMINATOR — Even though Pop-Up Killer has been killed (see the July 21 issue), there’s another pop-up killer that comes recommended by Tim and it’s also free. It’s called Pop-Up Stopper. It also has the advantage of being able to launch a window that would ordinarily be quashed by using some simple key strokes while clicking. It also comes in enhanced shareware versions. Find out more at: http://www.panicware.com/popupstopper.html

  3. EXPLORE YOUR OPTIONS AT THE USCWM — If you ever thought of working “behind-the-scenes” in missions mobilization, training, strategy or services, then perhaps “EXPLORE” is for you. Designed for people who wish to learn more about the U.S. Center for World Mission in Pasadena, CA, this 4-day seminar covers the history, impact and mission of the USCWM, with a focus on how you might use your gifts here to reach unreached people groups out there. The next EXPLORE Seminar is scheduled for September 25 – 28, 2002. Space is limited, so register early. For more information, please visit the USCWM website http://www.uscwm.org , or email <daviddotflynnatuscwmdotorg> . </daviddotflynnatuscwmdotorg>

  4. WANTED: A BUSINESS PLAN — Here’s a Brigada participant named Roland who would like to know if there are any successful business plans that have been developed which would provide support by and for ministry at the local level. He wrote, “There are passionate and capable indigenous leaders who are often consumed by economic struggle. Traditionally, the solution has been to raise support in America and then ship a portion of that money overseas. This system also has a tendency to develop an unhealthy dependence on stateside resources or force those in ministry to become full-time fundraisers themselves.” If you’re got a suggested plan for Roland to add to his compilation, send it on: <rolanddotheckatattdotnet>. Once he has a collection, we’ll share it with everyone here at Brigada. </rolanddotheckatattdotnet>

  5. ARABIC RESOURCES NEEDED — Workers in the 10/40 are putting together a “virtual library” of Arabic language resources (Bibles, Bible Studies, Books, etc.). This will allow Arab believers to access materials wherever they are via the Internet or CDROM. If you have or know of any resources that could be used in this “virtual library”, please, contact . If you have resources in *print*, please drop a note to <researchatsimdotorgdotza> . Once these directories are compiled, we’ll make them directory available in a sensitive way. </researchatsimdotorgdotza>

  6. FOR THOSE INVOLVED IN ESTABLISHING HOUSE CHURCHES… — You’ve *got* to see this list of ideas and resources: http://disciplethenations.org/index86.html#HC Whew! What a great collection! (Thanks Grace!!!)

  7. LEARN HOW TO RAISE FUNDS AND FRIENDS — Here’s a course that the author says will help you “Move beyond the fear factor and raise more funds in half the time.” The People Raising Coaches Clinic shows you how. Implement 10 key habits for success. In addition, you’ll be able to network with other Christian leaders responsible for coaching their staff in support raising. Get it all at a 2-day conference October 11- 12! Register by September 12th and save $50. For more information or to register on-line go to http://www.peopleraising.com/conferences.cfm or e-mail <billatpeopleraisingdotcom>. </billatpeopleraisingdotcom>

If you are a missionary candidate, tent maker, or short-term missionary to the Hindu world, this training will assist you in understanding the Hindu worldview and effectively communicate the Gospel to the Hindus. Led by Natun Bhattacharya, himself from a Hindu Priest family and an experienced cross-cultural trainer, the training will also include facilitators from a variety of backgrounds (missionaries and Indian Pastors), with expertise in Hinduism. 1. MORE OPTIONS FOR EGROUPS — This week, there are even more options for those wishing to opt out of YahooGroups (maybe because you’re tired of seeing that wireless webcam ad with the girl in the police officer’s get-up?). Try using http://mojo.skazat.com . Mojo mail is a free PERL program that you install at your own web- server host. I thought it would be a hassle . . . and honestly, it wasn’t exactly *easy*. I went out and bought a PERL book for $20 so I could learn some of the code. It was my first exposure to it. I got through about half the book . . . then tackled it . . . and it maybe took me 4 hours to figure it out and get it working. There’s no charge for non-profit groups. (Thanks to Tim for the suggestion!) I’m still in “testing” mode. So far, for example, I’ve only figured out how to trigger email broadcasts via a web-mail interface (as opposed to sending an email to a trigger address). But hey… that’s a minor inconvenience. I have a feeling that once I’ve confirmed it all, *many* of our Team Expansion missionaries will want to shift to this approach. And it’s all free!

Another option, especially if you don’t have a web-host… or you don’t want to learn any PERL… use the Network for Strategic Missions at http://www.strategicnetwork.org . They’re now hosting over 100 groups with a grand total of 15,000 subscribers, free of charge, with no advertising at all.

  2. PRAYER & FASTING FOR KIDS — Here’s a lighthearted, fast paced seven-and-a-half-minute video narrated by kids for kids, ages 4-9, encouraging kids to fast and pray for other nations. The heart of the video is Isaiah 58’s emphasis on the poor and needy, and having a heart for justice. Many non-essential food items and approaches are suggested in a light touch, kid-friendly way.

You can order Prayer and Fasting for Kids, postage paid for $14.00 (US) on line at http://www.reignbridge.org using Paypal or you can write Joey and Fawn Parish, 540 W. Highland Drive, Camarillo, California USA 93010 or email <joeyatgracebridgedotorg>. Don’t forget to tell them you heard about it on Brigada! </joeyatgracebridgedotorg>

  3. THANKS TO NEWEST SPONSOR, EMERCY — Thanks to Joshua, of Emercy International, providing missionary resources via http://www.missionaryresources.org . Write <joshatmcsnetworkdotorg> for more information, or see the website. Also, note his sponsorship has been posted at http://www.brigada.org/sponsor.html . Thanks Joshua!!! </joshatmcsnetworkdotorg>

  4. CHURCH WEBSITES — There are more church sites than any other sort of Christian page. They have great potential for evangelism – but only if they are designed with this in mind. A detailed resource page sets out a range of strategies that are working successfully for many churches: http://www.web-evangelism.com/resources/church-pages.php

And it is possible to directly insert this content into your own website, just by copying a line of javascript onto one of your pages: http://www.web-evangelism.com/resources/churchpage-insert.php

  5. CAMPUS CRUSADE OFFERS TOOLBOX — The Evangelism toolbox CD-ROM, produced by the WorldLinc Ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ, contains, according to Campus Crusade, more evangelistic materials in more languages and from more organizations than any other known tool. In book form the contents on this disc would take more space than the Encyclopedia Britannica! It also contains material that is not available on evangelismtoolbox.com. All the materials on the CD can be printed, which makes it especially useful for sharing Christ with internationals stateside or for leaving with nationals when you or groups from your church go on overseas projects. It’s available for a donation of $2.95 from http://www.campuscrusade.com/Outreach_Strategies/etoolbox.htm . Quantity discounts are available for donors by contacting Janice Wells, WorldLINC, 100 Lake Hart Dr., MC 18-00, Orlando, FL 32832. Or you may call (407) 854-1361 (EST). (Thanks for the tip, Elaine!)

  6. NEW BOOK: “IN THE IMAGE OF GOD…” — This colorful book is about translation: God’s creativity translated in color, texture, form and daily life. Made in God’s image, people of all cultures and languages reflect something of His likeness. This wonderful book, filled with the paintings and drawings of 52 people, is available for only $11.95. To order, or for more information, please contact Wycliffle Bible Translators at <patty_perkinsatwycliffedotorg> or call toll-free 1-800- 992-5433, ext 3778 (407-852-3600 locally). Thank you. </patty_perkinsatwycliffedotorg>

  7. MINI-CD: “WHO IS HE?” — From WorldLINC, here’s a novel and brand new evangelistic tool (a mini-CD) the size of a business card! It’s called “Who is He?” and there’s no Christian jargon on the package. In a clear, interactive presentation (in 20 languages, by the way), it explains the gospel message. Moreover, interested seekers may contact a Christian Webmaster who speaks their language if they have web access. You can obtain one or more mini CDs for $2.75 each. Orders can be made online at http://www.campuscrusade.com/Outreach_Strategies/whoishe.htm . Quantity discounts are available for donors by contacting Janice Wells, WorldLINC, 100 Lake Hart Dr., MC 18-00, Orlando, FL 32832 or by calling 407-854-1361. (Thanks again Elaine!)

  8. WORK ALONGSIDE A JAPANESE — Here’s a very unique opportunity to work alongside an English-speaking Japanese pastor to reach the Japanese for Christ. 1. WERE YOU ONE OF THE 100 ORDERS FOR WORLDVUE? — GMI tells us that within the 24 hours following the Brigada announcement, over 100 Brigada participants placed orders via fax, or email, or phone. Whew! Somebody’s wanting to do some big-time missions mobilization! :-) If you were one of those who placed an order, you already know that WorldVue is a Great Commission Map Collection containing over 500 maps and graphs in popular digital graphics formats. All the missions themes from GMI’s overhead transparency sets are included, plus political maps of each country and region. View them on screen, print them, or copy and paste them into your electronic documents. No royalty fees are required to use the images for most Christian ministry purposes. For Windows and Mac, WorldVue sells for $39.95, but for Brigada Today subscribers we have negotiated the special price of *$29.95* (plus shipping and tax) for orders placed for just 3 additional days… (through June 22 only). To order, go to http://www.gmi.org/brigada or contact Lorri at <infoatgmidotorg> or phone 719-531- 3599. </infoatgmidotorg>

  2. SEVENTY-TWO HOURS — That’s how long you’ve got. So… once again… if you want tons of maps and charts that you can turn around and paste into your Powerpoints, take up to 71 hours to decide — then in the last hour remaining, order WorldVue. There’s so much stuff on this CD that I’d venture a guess that you’d *have* to find at least one map you can use in your next PowerPoint… or … like I said last week… ask them for your money back. They’ll be glad to refund it. I think. ‘Course, I didn’t exactly *ask* them, but I bet they would. Probably. :-)

  3. NEED A TENTMAKING PROFESSION? — Try this one. Tell <garyatglobal-ddotbiz> about your interest and qualifications/vision. He’ll either coach you — and/or give you an idea to get you started. His best-selling idea lately? 3D imagery for ID, phone, bank cards. Sound far out? Probably. But try him. Maybe you’ll be selling 3D stuff 6 months from now and you’ll be able to give a tithe back to Brigada as a sponsor! :-) </garyatglobal-ddotbiz>

  4. A WORD FROM OUR SPONSOR — Have you tried PayPal yet? Many are using it to effortlessly transfer money over the Internet. There have been times when the volume of users has forced PayPal to upgrade its services… but they seem to always catch up. Lately, we’ve noticed great speed on all transactions. PayPal lets users send and receive money online. PayPal charges the money to your credit card or bank account. It’s faster, safer and easier than mailing a check. Plus, assuming you qualify, as soon as you sign up and complete the bonus requirements, PayPal will automatically add $5 to your balance! What’s more, if you sign up using the link below, PayPal will also donate $5 in cash to Brigada! If you decide not to use PayPal, just transfer the $5 to your bank account and walk away at any time. No strings attached. Click on this link to sign up and see for yourself: https://www.paypal.com/refer/pal=DLucas%40TeamExpansion.org Remember… last we heard… residents of some countries were still having trouble qualifying. We hope yours is on “the approved list”.

  5. LANGUAGE TRAINING FOR NEW MISSIONARIES, IN TORONTO – Slated for June 16-28, this ten day seminar helps you to identify your own learning style, understand your strengths and weakness in language learning. You will leave equipped with more than enough natural and easily implemented learning activities, projects, techniques, skills & strategies. There are still a few places open for new participants. Contact Robert <missionprepatsympaticodotca> or call 416-284-5645 for more information. </missionprepatsympaticodotca>

  6. FUNDING FOR NON-AMERICAN STUDENTS IN THE USA — Do you have a national colleague or counterpart . . . maybe one that you’re training . . . that you’d love to send to the USA for further training? (Maybe your mission organization doesn’t even permit that . . . or maybe it does.) Either way, are there specific sources to which you’d send these kinds of candidates? If you’d feel comfortable sharing those, we have a compiler willing to gather the information, then make it available later to those in similar situations. Specifically, we’re looking for information about scholarships, grants, work opportunities or anything similar. Please send any tips to <handsfeet81athotmaildotcom>. She’ll assemble the information and forward it to us here at Brigada Today. for later publishing. </handsfeet81athotmaildotcom>

  7. INSTANT CONFIRMATION OF SHORT-TERM INSURANCE COVERAGE — Have you waited until the last minute to get health insurance for your team? Insurance Services of America, a Christian organization that specializes in health and life insurance for missionaries and mission organizations, now has online applications available for group coverage. Visit them on the web at http://www.missionaryhealth.net and click on the link for group coverage. Coverage is available on their “Day Tripper” plan for as low as $1.08 per day! If you have questions email them <healthatmissionaryhealthdotnet>, or call them at 1-800-647-4589 in the USA or via Net2Phone. Insurance Services of America is not tied to just one company; they have several choices available, so they can shop FOR the missionary or mission agency. Individual coverage available as well as the group coverage. </healthatmissionaryhealthdotnet>

  8. PRAYER & FASTING FOR KIDS — A lighthearted, fast paced seven and a half minute video narrated by kids for kids, ages 4-9, encourages kids to fast and pray for other nations. The heart of the video is Isaiah 58’s emphasis on the poor and needy, and having a heart for justice. Many non-essential food items and approaches are suggested in a light touch, kid friendly way. You can order Prayer and Fasting for Kids, postage paid for $14.00 (US) by writing Joey and Fawn Parish, 540 W. Highland Drive, Camarillo, California USA 93010 or email <joeyatgracebridgedotorg>. Please let them know you heard about it in Brigada Today! They sometimes send a gift to cover our expenses here! </joeyatgracebridgedotorg>

  9. PBASE: A GREAT PLACE TO SHOW YOUR PICS — So have you ever visited PBase? For now, it’s a free place to host your pix. Maybe they’ll charge someday . . . but for now, they function by donation. Fast. Simple. Smooth. Free.

  10. ALTERNATIVES TO “X10 VIDEO” YAHOO! GROUPS — Searching for an alternative list-serve? Tired of the infamous “x10 wireless webcam ads” on Yahoo!Groups? Here are at least 3 options. For one, try InJesus.com. They offer a free service, and while there are still ads at least they are for Christian products and materials. PLUS if anyone in the group orders a product advertised, the group owner gets 10% of the price. Not bad. For more information, check out http://www.injesus.com . (Thanks for the testimony, Niel!) Peter suggested http://hundred-acre-woods.com/lists/index.html . Pay them $10/month and say goodbye to ads forever. Another option: Peter overcame the ads by placing a small jpeg picture (any picture) at the start of the message. He wrote, “If I sent out just an attached picture on it’s own the ad would appear, but placing a small jpeg in the message somehow eliminated the ads.” Worth a try! (Thanks for the tip Peter!)

The group is currently in the process of choosing a publisher for its catalog of artistic photographs of tribal groups. Reports will be published on the site as the network of investigators compiles research information regarding specific unreached people groups. This site is expected to be a hub for ethnologic information as it relates to missions. This organizations approach to “network investigation” and information sharing is helping to fill a need for practical and academic information in support of reaching the unreached for Christ.
