Each year, we notice that many… maybe *most* givers decide to pitch into Brigada at the end of the year. We’re not sure why that happens but we observe it. Maybe it’s because of the spirit of giving in the Christmas season, I don’t know. Either way, we also notice that there is also a very small contingent who used to be annoyed that we asked for funding for Brigada. Of course, many of them have run their course and perhaps stopped generating the purely volunteer ministries that they were staging. But Brigada, in part because we can hire some secretarial muscle with these funds (not a full-time secretary, mind you) and because we operate lean and can keep the bills paid — well, we’re still around. We like our model. In a couple of weeks it’ll be 16 years, without quitting. Yes, sometimes we get behind, but somehow, maybe partly because of the debt we feel to those who pitch in (but also because of the debt we feel to the unreached), we keep doing this… from one midnight to the other. (Also, hundreds of Brigada participants write with encouraging words. Don’t get me wrong. Those help too.)

So for 2011, whether for good or for bad, we’re going to roll the dice and try a different gamble: We’ll work week after week throughout the year and never mention finances until November & December. In those final weeks of the year, we’ll ask you to take part… to participate in making Brigada happen again for another year. It’s a gamble. Maybe nobody will give? But we’ll give it a try and see what happens. And we’ll pray. Please join us.

It just seemed so expensive… and we wondered whether or not it would come across as a “fad” or a gimmick. Now, two articles have me thinking. They were brought to our attention by Brigada’s field desk in Uganda. (Thanks Lissa!) The first deals with the concept in general, citing a case study from the Red Cross.

The second highlights four non-profits who are trying to attract $25 gifts via text-donate. As a result of pioneers like these, the overall acceptability of the practice might be pushed up in a positive direction. See the second article at…

They choose their own time schedule and take the training and coaching at home over live, interactive videoconferencing. The cost is much less than travelling to a weekend workshop. Field staff, home staff and furloughites are all achieving their full funding in record time. KCT offers a money-back guarantee if the training doesn’t work for you. Since 2007 the team at Kingdom Come Training has been refining the process of training, coaching and accountability for accelerated partnership ministry. Today, KCT has three trainers and a full staff of coaches. Currently over 85 faith ministry staff members, both home assigned and field assigned, are engaged in fast-track funding through KCT training and coaching. They choose their own time and take the training and coaching right at home over live, interactive videoconferencing. Up to three new courses begin every Monday and go for an hour and a half a day, four days a week for three weeks. Enrollment in each course is limited to four or five individuals or couples so that each gets maximum individual help. Then they immediately begin active, personal coaching with half-hour weekly Skype sessions until they achieve their 100% funding. Check out their website:

The majority of home-assigned missionaries struggle on low support. One recently confessed to Jerry at Kingdom Come Training, “I’m 54 and scared of getting older. We don’t have insurance, no retirement fund and we both have to work second jobs in order to survive.” The half-dozen or so mid-career, home assigned missionaries that have found their way into KCT training, coaching and accountability this year are actually breaking out of the poverty cycle and achieving full funding. Most are doing it in four or five months. The training, coaching and accountability all happens in your home over live, web-based interactive videoconferencing. Ed, a home-assigned missionary who is on track for raising $2000 in monthly support in a single month writes, “Doing partnership development in this fashion is absolute fun. We’d love it to go on for a long time!” Give Jerry a call at (503)314-7211.
