BEEN LOOKING FOR A STUDY BIBLE ON-LINE? NOW'S A GOOD TIME TO BUY!
To
celebrate the release of Logos 2.0,
Stepping Stone Software is offering the
complete inventory of Logos Bible study products for 33% off. I bought mine
direct from Logos, some time ago, for complete list. Yikes. Get this. I
paid $120 for mine and could have gotten it from Chad at Stepping Stone for
$84!!! ... in CD form! What's more, Version 2.0 adds a lot more. (If
you're viewing this Brigada Today via the Worldwide web, click Stepping
Stone to see the full bulletin on this special offer. If you're looking at
a piece of email in your in-basket, send email to
hub@xc.org with only the
following line in the text of the message body:
get brigada software-logos
For further information, write to Chad at
chp@ix.netcom.com or look at
Logos' home page at
http://islander.whidbey.net/~logos/
-- and don't forget
to tell them you saw it in Brigada Today. Who knows... they might throw in
a free mousepad or something. (That's a joke
.)

WHA' D'YA MEAN 3479 MESSAGES!????
After last week's item on Brigada-
Peoples ("GET A PIECE OF THE ACTION ON BRIGADA-PEOPLES"), at least one
person wondered how anyone could filter through 3479 messages in one week!
(Okay, we'll admit it... that would be a lot of email!) Sorry for any
confusion. That's 72 participants who received 48 different email messages
(48 x 72) in one 7-day period for a total conference traffic report of some
3479 pieces of mail. To make things clearer in the future, if we refer to
conference traffic again, we'll refer to the number of unique messages
rather than pieces of mail.

GET YOUR VIDEOS . . . FROM DOWN UNDER
Looking for a series of videos to
feature some unique "least reached" peoples? Check out
Create International's "Video People Profiles."
Calvin can send you tapes on
Tibetan Buddhists, the Zhuang people of China, the Manchu, the Aceh, the
Sundanese, the Deccanis, the Kashmiris, the Urdu Muslims, the Malays, and
many more. But you get the idea. Each video is US$20 plus $5 for postage
and handling... sent via air mail from 'down under'. (If you're viewing
this Brigada Today via Worldwide Web, click Create to see annotated
descriptions of each of the above videos and more. If you're looking at
email, send a message to
hub@xc.org with only the following line in the body
of the message text:

For further information, write to Create at
ConkeyCreate@XC.Org and
please tell them you saw it in Brigada Today.

THIS WEEK'S "QUOTE FROM THE CONFERENCES"
... picked up from Brigada
participant Scott Harris, who commented in one conference, "It is an
encouragement to be globally linked for the advance of the Kingdom!" We
heartily agree Scott!

LOCAL CHURCH TO HELP WITH PRAYER PROFILES
Thanks to the visionaries at
Bethany World Prayer Center, who have agreed to help
with producing long-
awaited prayer profiles on the 2500 least evangelized groups of the world.

ANTIOCH NETWORK HOLDS ANNUAL GATHERING
What do you get when you pull
together 100 church leaders from 38 different congregations? An
Antioch Network Annual Gathering, that's what. During their annual meetings, the
Antioch Network hopes to foster greater partnership and networking, learning
from one another -- daring one another to do greater and greater good works!
Eventually, the
Antioch Network would like to see relational church
networks targeting each of 100 different strategic peoples worldwide. Click
Antioch to read the entire message from leader
George Miley, or send email to

THIS WEEK'S GLOBAL GLIMPSE
Christians in Bosnia are uniting for prayer.
Aug. 18-23 local believers and church leaders will meet in Mostar with
representatives from World Vision, the US Center for World Mission, and
the Christian Information Network to seek God's intervention and bring
reconciliation in this war-torn region. Afterward, these prayer emissaries
will travel to the Muslim refugee camps near Tuzla, for prayer and to
encourage local Christians reaching out to the refugees. (Thanks to Global
Glimpse contributor John Hanna, of Caleb Project, who caught this note in a
letter from Missions Frontiers Editor, Rick Wood, 8/13/95, US Center for
World Missions.)

"ILUMINA LA VENTANA" AHORA EN ESPANOL
Ahora,
CBN esta puede mandarle
"Light the Window" en Espanol!

MAPS, MAPS, MAPS
WE'VE GOT MAPS -- Remember a long time ago (last week),
when we were trying to raise up some map possibilities for the 100 Gateway
Cities of the 10/40 Window??? Well
Global Mapping has heard our cry (and
the cry of several Brigada readers who want them) and has come up with a few
possibilities. If they get lots of orders (on the order of hundreds or
thousands), their prices drop accordingly. If Bill Dickson has to sit there
all night with coffee in his mug, watching them come out of the plotter one
at a time because you and I didn't order but two or three dozen, we have to
pay the following prices:
| Gateway Cities Wall Map 20"x30", Full Color | $19.95
|
| Above wall map, fully laminated | $29.95
|
| Full-Color Gateway Cities Overhead trans. | $6.95
|
| Full-Color Gateway Cities 8 1/2"x11" Map | $6.95
|
| Black & White Gateway Cities 8 1/2"x11 Map | $6.95
|
| 10/40 Window Overhead Transparency Map Set | $34.95
|
|
"Pray through the Window II" Package | $74.95
|
(each of the above with lamination on wall map free)

APARTMENT FOR RENT
According to Pulse Magazine, you can rent a simple 2
-bedroom apartment in the following cities for the following prices:
| Sydney | $1100 | | | Cairo | $1200
| | Buenos Aires | $1500 | |
| Paris | $2150
|
| NY | $2300 | | | London | $2950
|
| Moscow | $5000 | | | Shanghai | $6300
|
| Tokyo | $7100 | | | Hong Kong | $7200
|
Didn't know you had it so good, right? (Yikes. Just who do these landlords
think they are, anyway???) Now we know what all these missionaries do with
their money. They pay for apartments! The nerve! If you're not receiving
Pulse [only the best little missions news magazine there is], odds are,
they probably won't let you through the pearly gates. Fax them at 708-653-
0520 and tell them you heard about it in Brigada Today... and while you're
at it, send them one of those free America OnLine email disks, okay?
(Jim -- read my lips -- email!)

WANT A FREE WORLDWIDE WEB HOMEPAGE?
(Aaaaahhhh. Now this one caught your
eye, didn't it!?)
Contact
MediaMgmt@aol.com and tell them you heard
about it in Brigada Today. They've got this new land of "Goshen" that
will give you your homepage for free... and then I think someday they'll
start charging for "Extended WWW Services" and that's how they'll pay the
electric bill. In the meantime, it's a great deal. Let us know your URL,
when you get it.

SO HOW MANY PRAYER TEAMS ARE HEADED OUT IN OCTOBER?
As most of you know,
one of the features of Praying Through the Window II is to send prayer teams
to the actual 10/40 Window to pray in the 100 Gateway Cities. (This is not
to imply that God hears prayers better when you pray on site, but rather,
that you probably pray more effectively and
more informedly onsite,
among other things.) We asked Bev Pegues, who is co-coordinating the 100
Gateway Cities project and were amazed at the response. "At this time, we
have approximately 500 teams consisting of 2 to 7 people each, traveling to
the Gateway cities in October." That should do it all right!
Let's
stop a moment and pray for these ambassadors, asking God to raise within
them a passion for the Window that won't quit, in spite of visa difficulties
, amoebas, and whatever else Satan will throw their way! Then let's
determine to join with them to pray to the Lord of the Harvest!!!!

READ ABOUT ONE MINISTER'S APPROACH TO PRAYING THROUGH THE WINDOW II

you're reading this Brigada Today on Worldwide Web, click Florence to read
about Tommy Baker, Associate Minister at First Church of Christ,
Florence,
Kentucky. (Otherwise, send email to

Among other things, Tommy is recruiting an "adoption" from within his church
for each of the 100 Gateway Cities. He's on the ball. You'll get practical
application from this article.

THANKS TO THE "ANSWER-MAN"
Now and then, we all are asked a question that
we can't answer... and that's when you need to know about "The Answer-man".
Dave Nesmith popped in this past week on Brigada-Peoples and showed why he,
probably more than anyone else in the industry, deserves this title.
Someone had asked for information on someplace far away and... sorry to say,
there had been precious little response. Up walked David to the plate,
knocking a home run with email addresses and contact persons galore. If
you're stumped about anything missions oriented -- "Where do I find out
about opportunities in southern South Pole?" (well, nearly anything) --
write Dave at
Dave@gmi.org. You'll be glad you did.
And so will he. His
job is to serve the missions community in this way at the DMIS, in
affiliation with Global Mapping. So... thanks GMI and thanks DMIS and
thanks Dave!

BRIGADA WORLDWIDE WEB PAGE IS "A WHOLE NEW WORLD"
Some scientists say its
inconceivable that God could have created the world in seven days. But
judging from the pace that Brigada volunteer Bob Mayhew and wife, Patti,
have kept in transforming the Brigada web site, maybe God did use 24 hour
periods!!!
Bob and Patti have worked night and day cleaning up and
refreshing the Brigada www pages. Among the changes they've instituted, in
their new roles as Brigada Web Master and Artist, are:
- New artwork and cleaner appearance throughout (Patti's the artist of the
family . . ., and, needless to say, we think Bob has "good taste"!)
- Updated the Brigada Today backissues
- Added a section to list the 100 Gateway Cities
- Added a section on Praying Through the Window II
- Added a "Links to other web sites on the 10/40 Window" section
- Updated the "Conferences" page and added a column listing the number of
participants in each conference
- ...and many, many more refreshing changes.
Those of us volunteering as Brigada staff have been praying for some time
that God would bring an HTML code specialist to the table for Brigada's
future, but we had no idea He would bring someone as dedicated as Bob Mayhew
.
Professionally, he is a computer consultant at the University of California's
Riverside campus, where he is responsible for PC support for Academic
Computing in the Computing & Communications department. He's been working a
PC helpdesk for 13 years! As far as HTML goes (the code language for www
pages), he began teaching himself 4 weeks ago! (From the Understatement
Department: Bob must be a fast learner!) Bob heard about Brigada from Paul
Lay, who works with MAF (the "parent company" for CrossConnect; CrossConnect
acts as host for all Brigada conferences and worldwide web pages). Paul and
Bob attend the same church in California and Paul mentioned Brigada during a
recent meeting there. When asked about his spiritual walk, Bob replied, "I
would like to say it has been a constantly growing experience, but like most
of us my walk with the Lord has had its ups and downs. This is an up time
for me. The Lord has been teaching me a lot recently." From the looks of
his worldwide web work, one of the things the Lord is teaching Bob is HTML!!!
We salute you, Bob Mayhew, and thank you and Patti for your
sacrificial service on behalf of the hundreds of believers who want to see
the least reached peoples come to Jesus! Visit Bob's world (the Brigada
homepage) by pointing your www browser to:

FAMOUS QUOTES DEPARTMENT
So "Q" has transferred the entire Enterprise
crew to a "Robin Hood" adventure game, right? Picard is face to face with
the Sheriff of Nottingham, in a sword fight until death. The Sheriff chokes
out, "I'll have you know that I'm the greatest swordsman in all of
Nottingham!" [Clank! Clank! Clank!] So Picard replies, with that winsome
smile, "There's something you should know..." The Sheriff asks, "And what
might that be?" Picard: "I'm not from Nottingham!" Needless to say, the
Sheriff, shall we say, 'got the point'. What does this have to do with
world evangelism? Ummm ... er.... Well you see, Satan wants us to think
we're overpowered, you know? He wants us to see ourselves as outwitted,
because he's the ruler of this present darkness. But our reply needs to be
firm and clear: "We're not from this Kingdom." Now then. See? It did
relate.
Have a great week!

SPECIAL EDITION -- BRIGADA TODAY "EXTRA"
Hey!!! Someone out there listened... and has already ordered!!! (Of course
, it doesn't hurt matters when ACMC decides to send them out to all new
members and all existing member churches!!!
)
The price of the GMI 100
Gateway Cities maps have just gone way down, thanks to overwhelming interest
on the part of the people!!!! Now, you can have a full color 20"x30' map
of the 100 Gateway Cities of the 10/40 Window for just $3.95 (in quantities
of 100 or more). Single orders are $9.95. Lamination prices remain the
same (added $10). All orders must be prepaid. This is literally 1/2 the
price we stated just 8 hours ago... (Hey -- maybe if we wait through the
weekend they'll be paying us to take them home!!!
)
(Not likely.)
And for orders of 100 or more, it's less than 20% of the price mentioned in
this morning's Brigada Today.
So what's the difference? I'll tell you what it is. It's God's people
working together... that's what it is.
So call, write, email, fax, or drive on up to Colorado and get those maps,
folks. (But don't call me -- I just brag about 'em. I don't sell 'em!)
