MORE BRIGADA PARTICIPANTS THAN LEAST EVANGELIZED PEOPLES!
Thanks to
Gene Brooks
74114.440@compuserve.com who wrote this past week to point out
"Just think, Doug--Now we have more subscribers on Brigada than Joshua
Project peoples! Congratulations!" But the real thanks goes to the whole
Brigada family, at work not only on line, but in the trenches, on site, and
in offices across the globe in all their various churches, agencies and
organizations who share a common vision for the nations of the world!!!
Keep Marching On!

FREE JOSHUA PROJECT 2000 SOFTWARE - A BRIGADA EXCLUSIVE!
Got access
to the web? Bob Whitney
bobw5@ix.netcom.com has made it possible for you
to search the many peoples of the
Joshua Project 2000 Least Evangelized
Peoples list -- and his software is available here on Brigada! Just create a
subdirectory (like c:\temp), download the files, execute them, and go! Full
documentation... well... pretty full documentation is provided. If you
like grab jpdoc.txt first for more detailed instructions. Bob's only
request is that you send a note to him at
bobw5@ix.netcom.com so he can
add you to the list of folks to notify when he does upgrades. (By the way,
I took the liberty of checking them for viruses and they're clean!
)
Point your browser to:
http://www.xc.org/brigada/world
and download jpdbf.exe and jpprog.exe. They are self-extracting zip files.
Bob's program is DOS but works fine in a Windows session. Thanks loads to
Bob Whitney! And again, a tip of the hat
to MAFxc for making these online
distribution technologies available to the 2000+ Brigada participants
worldwide!!!

GOT A JP2000 TEAM IN THE WORKS?
Write
maryann@ad2000.org! As the
JP2000 Coordinator at AD2000 & Beyond, she'd love to be able to track the
movement!!! Don't forget that you can join a special 'announcements'
channel to stay tuned to advisories and updates. Just send an email to
hub@xc.org with this one line in the body text:

GLOBAL MAPPING ON THE HUNT FOR INFORMATION PROVIDERS
GMI is in the
process of preparing several key maps and maybe even a CD for those who are
concerned for Muslims around the world. If you can provide information,
ideas or funding sources, write
mark@gmi.org. Thanks and good luck, Harold!

PRAYER PROFILES ON THE WEB
After all
the talk about prayer profiles
on the web, somebody has actually put some there!
It should come as
no surprise that it was our friends in Littleton. Check 'em out at:
http://www.goshen.net/calebproject/upgpray.htm
Thanks for your diligent work, John!!!

YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED... FOR FREE! JUST ASK "IITT"
Get this. Free
answers. Just when you thought no one cared!!!
Ray Holt wrote this
past week to tell us, "The International Institute of Technology and
Theology (IITT) continues to expand their FREE e-mail services to world
missionaries. Recent addition of a Christian clinical chemist with over 30
years experience has allowed IITT to offer support to missionaries in many
medical areas such as, explaining disease entities, health and nutrition,
food and dietary supplements, and general and preventative health, etc.
Currently, this new medical service is only available to missionaries
outside the United States. IITT continues to offer its computer support in
software, hardware and purchasing discounts to all involved in Christian
service work world-wide. For more information and a registration form, send
an e-mail to one of the following with IITT INFORMATION as the subject.

NEED A PHOTOMURALIST?
Need a Christian photographer for your Christian
organization's project or ministry? Have a spot for an intern to work
alongside a Christian professional photographer in a business? Here's a deal
you can't refuse!!! Dennis Fahringer writes, "I'm looking for opportunities
for our missions-minded Photo School students (from YWAM's University of the
Nations) to be able to serve others. We're particularly interested in
ministries to unreached people groups. Students cover their costs of travel,
food and housing. I'm also eager to find Christian pro photographers to
teach for a week in our two schools." Contact Dennis Fahringer, Director of
Photo Schools, U of N, e-mail
photo@uofn.edu, on the Web at
,fax: 808-326-4501. (By the way, Dennis and our other
photographer friend, Mike Scott, mentioned in previous Brigada Today
issues, are now working together thanks to their networking initiative as a
result of Brigada! Way to go, guys!!!)

SO HOW ARE THE PEOPLES OF THE WORLD DIFFERENT???
Well, at the least,
try "age-grading, athletic sports, bodily adornment, calendar, cleanliness
training, community organization, cooking, co-operative labor, cosmology,
courtship, dancing, decorative art, divination, division of labor, dream
interpretation, education, eschatology, ethics, ethnobotany, etiquette,
faith healing, family, feasting, fire making, folklore, food taboos, funeral
rites, games, gestures, gift giving, government, greetings, hair styles,
hospitality, housing, hygiene, incest taboos, inheritance rules, joking,
kin-groups, kinship nomenclature, language, law, luck superstitions, magic,
marriage, mealtimes, medicine, modesty concerning natural functions,
mourning, music, mythology, numerals, obstetrics, penal sanctions, personal
names, population policy, postnatal care, pregnancy practices, property
rights, propitiation of supernatural beings, puberty customs, religious
ritual, residence rules, sexual restrictions, soul concepts, status
differentiation, surgery, tool making, trade, visiting, weaning, and weather
control."
These 73 categories were first mentioned by Murdock in his "The
Common Denominator of Cultures" (1945:124), then quoted
in Christianity in Culture by Charles Kraft,
1979, Orbis Books. Murdock felt that every
people of the world would possess these basic categories. Yikes.
We're a
complex bunch of critters, if you ask me. By the way, I remember studying
these in undergrad... but it wasn't until I saw them mentioned on
Brigada-peoples that I got interested again. You can join by sending email
to
hub@xc.org with only this line in the text of the message:
subscribe brigada-peoples

NEED HELP WITH BRIGADA???
Don't forget that you can get help with
Brigada conferences at any time by sending this message to
hub@xc.org in the
text of a normal email message:
get brigada help-detailed
If that doesn't answer your question, you can also write MAFxc at
helpdesk@xc.org if your question deals with conference commands or the "how
to" questions of using MAFxc conferencing.

TRAVEL TRAVEL TRAVEL
One thing most of us have in common: Travel. As
Brian sent us info. on Friendship Tours & Services, 209-294-1354, 812
W.Fairmont Ave., Clovis, CA 93612, fax 209-294-7316, it occurred to Brigada
participant Steve Skaggs that maybe we should start a travel free-for-all...
of sorts!!! Here's the way it would work. First, we'd need a moderator who
cared about getting people the best travel prices around... preferably
someone who would be open and fair about pricing. That moderator would need
an XC.org address ($52). Then we'd create a Brigada conference... say...
brigada-travel. We'd try to get as many travel agents as possible to
subscribe and monitor. Then, whenever you needed to travel, you'd join up
temporarily, and send in your travel itinerary -- a kind of Request For Bids
(an "RFB"???). All the travel agents in the universe would pounce on it and
within minutes (well, okay... maybe hours...), they'd send their "sealed
bids" back to you in private email. So within a day or so, without having
to make a single phone call, you'd have the best rates/itineraries/values in
town!!! Wha'dya think???? So... anybody willing to step up to the plate
and moderate that one???? If so, write
DLucas@TeamExpansion.org and we'll launch
the thing by next week. Oh -- and thanks for the idea, Steve! You get your
first trip free!

YOU'VE BEEN CALLED TO PRAY
Dwight Anderson
DwightAnderson@XC.org
wrote this past week to tell us about "Call to Prayer, sponsored by the
International Bible Society. It is a monthly mailing calling Christian to
pray for the distribution of God Word around the world. The URL is
http://www.gospelcom.net/ibs/ctp
March Call to Prayer is Revival and April will be Nations in Conflict.
Thanks Dwight!

THIS WEEK'S GLOBAL GLIMPSE
The Himalayan Evangelization Consultation,
held in northeast India, brought together over 2,000 Nepalese and Indian
pastors, January '96. In 1961, Nepal had no church and only around 25 known
Christians. Today, it has over 2,000 local churches with an estimated total
of between 200,000 and 300,000 members. In the '70s Nepalese church leaders
had set the goal of reaching all Nepalese with the gospel. Despite
persecution, the Nepalese church continues to witness miracles and the
deliverance of people from the fear of demons.
