Great job, Kevin!! Thanks for following through!

LOOK WHO'S TALKIN'!
Following last week's item about Microsoft's new
NetMeeting software
http://www.microsoft.com/ie/download/MSNETMTG.exe the
people at Microsoft must have taken a real hit on their server! I took a
few moments later that evening to experiment again with this new audio
conferencing tool and saw several Brigada participants' names in the server
list! In fact, I struck up a conversation with one fellow I hadn't seen
since he was a missions grad student at a seminary I visited years ago! Once
again, all you need is a microphone, speakers, an Internet connection (28.8 or
faster works best) and some time. Arrange a meeting with a friend today!

DID YOU KNOW... (FUN FACTS TO KNOW AND TELL)
Your mail has me rolling
in the floor! What originally started as an off the cuff joke ("Does water
really go down the shower drain in the opposite direction when you switch
from the north to the south hemisphere?") has proven to be quite an item of
curiosity for more people than I realized! Take Mike Stevens' note for
example. He says the whole thing is upside down anyway, since the original
map got it wrong! "The Planet Earth is a magnet, right? Well, it is now
possible to measure magnetic waves and determine which pole of the planet is
magnetic North. Guess which magnetic pole is located at the geographical
North Pole? Yes you are correct - it is in fact the South Magnetic Pole. So,
we in Europe are in fact 'down under' and the 'antipeodeans' are really
living on top of the world. We always wondered what it was about the
colonial mapmakers
."
But the best response of all came from Ken Bertel of SAIC, who pointed out
that if you live + or - 5 degrees from the equator (Papua New Guinea for
example), water goes straight down the drain with no whirl pools! I mean,
this guy even knew the scientific name for the whole discussion (the
"Coriolis effect"??), which kind of made me feel more intelligent for having
asked the original question! (Course, it didn't do a lot to persuade my
wife that it was an intelligent question! She thinks we're all nuts for
even caring!
) I just wish you could have all seen her face when I
started reading excerpts from Ken's response: "Water in the sink is really
traveling from west to east at approx. 1000 miles per hour near the equator
due to the rotation of the earth. And the water at the north side of the
sink is traveling at the same speed as water at the south end of the sink
because the surface of the water is parallel to the axis of rotation of the
earth...." (This guy's got to be a science professor somewhere!
) So
ANYWAY, thanks to our globe trotting friends who have helped solve this
mystery about the water... and had some fun along the way! And thanks to
Bob Hall's web page that spawned the whole discussion. And by the way,
don't forget to check out Bob's "new" page
http://www.cmd.org.nz/new.html,
which includes everything from book reviews to articles to missions
opportunities and up to date missions info!

GLOBAL GLIMPSE FROM ETHIOPIA
A tribe in Ethiopia, the Tarra, was not
surprised when a missionary arrived in their village. They had had a vision
that a man would come with a book and that they should listen to him. When
the missionary first met with the tribe's chief, he was given permission to
stay and later given a plot of land to build a church. But the tribe's witch
doctors would not let him, and instead began building a temple there. On the
day the temple was completed, wind and lightning destroyed it and the witch
doctors left. The church then was built, but the burned-over plot remains as
a reminder of the powers of God. About 70 tribe members became Christians in
the past year.

THANKS TO THE MODERATORS! (Part II)
As we said last week, without the
help of dozens of moderators, the Brigada dream of working together would be
impossible! Each "family" or network of Brigada participants depends
heavily on a volunteer (a Moderator) to oversee the administrative concerns
of that particular conference. These moderators receive no pay and, at
times, little thanks for the hours they invest. So we're publicly saying
here that we really appreciate you gang!!! All the conferences below start
with the word, "Brigada-". The number following the conference/moderator is
the current subscriber total for that conference.

By the way, thanks to RevisAnnMassey for handling the "customer service"
(including moderating) for the top level of our networking family, Brigada
itself. Instead of a few dozen or even a few hundred, she has a few
thousand of us to worry about! Thanks Revis Ann!!!

FOLLOW-UP TO "KINAPPED MISSIONARY FREE"
We continue to get mail
regarding Raymond Rising, the missionary recently released after being held
hostage for more than two years in Colombia. The latest, from Al Adan at
Wycliffe's Singapore office, urged us to give praise to the Lord for
answered prayer in this regard! Al's right! Let's give thanks for
Raymond's release! There must have been thousands praying for this day!
