The report came back from none other than Bob
Sutterfield, coordinator for MAF's electronic communications division. He
wrote, "15.89% of your 3870 readers responded, and of those 615
respondents, 98.21% want you to carry on." It's a wonderful life! Thanks
to all who read to the very bottom of
last week's Brigada Today. 15%
isn't a bad ratio of respondents to an informal poll like the one we
took... and the fact that 615 people took time to say, "Please keep 'em
coming...", tells me that we should march forward. With fear and trembling,
and with requests for your prayers, we'll continue Brigada Today and the
Brigada family of networks. And let's hope we can keep talkin'!
LUIS BUSH: "CALLING ALL GATEKEEPERS"
At a consultation on adoption
this past week in Colorado Springs, Luis Bush and the two dozen or so
delegates seemed to agree on several key issues:
- God is working among us
in a mighty way,
- We must try to work more closely in concert with one
another, and
- We need desperately to create "front doors" for the Gateway
Peoples to promote the sharing of strategy and resources.
Luis and the
group nominated John Hanna, of Caleb Project, to chair a committee that
would collect information on so called "Gatekeepers"... the name currently
being used to describe a people specific advocate or a "front door friendly
face". As time goes on, these terms and others will be more carefully
defined... but for the time being, if you are already serving as a kind of
information-sharing agent for a particular people group (especially those
on the JP2000 list), please email a note to John Hanna
Jhanna@cproject.com to make sure you get info. on an upcoming
consultation for these gatekeepers. (Don't expect John to respond with a
lengthy reply at this time... but believe me... your name will be counted.)
And as time goes on, expect to hear more!
COLORADO ADOPT-A-PEOPLE CONSULTATION YIELDS FRUIT
Sitting around the
same table last week in Colorado Springs were executive directors of the
Adopt-A-People Clearinghouse, the US Center for World Mission, the AD2000 &
Beyond Movement, representatives from the People Information Network, the
JP2000 Editorial Committee, Caleb Project, Brigada, reps. from several
large mission agencies, missions mobilization event coordinators, key
authors and writers, and several other key people from people group
mobilizing agencies. Just to get all these folks together at the same time
was a major accomplishment... and to get them to hash out some
commonalities and possible follow-up scenarios was a landmark milestone in
the life of adopt-a-people development. Several working groups were
established for on-going practical steps... but these are made up of some
of the busiest people around... so please pray that the hopes and dreams
of this group can be realized through God's mighty power... Truly, this
is the beginning of something - but there's much yet to cover.

Thanks to all who took time
to write this past week... Here's an example of the great encouragement
given by many....
"We have been Brigada subscribers since the first month
or so, and I want to thank you personally for all that Brigada has meant to
me. When we first got on internet in Oct 94 it was only one month old as a
public system here in Jakarta. Outside news and especially this kind of
news was not available at all here. Over the last 2 years, we have come to
look forward to receiving Brigada and sharing it with our friends that
aren't online. I teach in a seminary and the info is helpful to our
students. With your help, we are creating an awareness of world mission
that wasn't possible before! Many times we have found resources, contacts

PRAY FOR THE WINTERS
Most will recognize "Ralph Winter" as a
"household name" in missions. It was Dr. Winter who helped rally a ton of
early support for the frontier missions movement, starting in 1974 at the
now famous Lausanne consultation in Switzerland. His key address there
focused on the importance of looking at the world as people groups... and
he wouldn't quit at helping us see the world through "church growth eyes."
But now, his eyes are focused on another crucial issue: his wife's bone
cancer. Please lift up Dr. and Mrs. Ralph and Roberta Winter. Rick Wood,
Editor of Mission Frontiers, recently wrote to ask us to pray..., " that
the Winter's will remain strong in their faith and that the Lord will be
their comfort, for rapid reduction in Mrs. Winters pain to enable her to
discontinue the morphine...., for wisdom and insight ... for the doctors
... attending Mrs. Winter's case..., and for wisdom for the Winters
regarding what form of treatment to pursue."
GLOBAL GLIMPSE AT UPCOMING MUSLIM PRAYER MONTH
As many as ten million
people are expected to take part in the fifth annual global month of prayer
for the Muslim world, which begins in January. Five hundred thousand copies
of a daily guide for the 30 Days Muslim Prayer Focus are being produced,
with Swahili and Chinese versions among the newest of 27 translations
available. Coinciding with the Islamic holy month of Ramadan as "an act of
identification", the next 30 Days event starts on January 10 and ends on
February 8, with the guide highlighting different countries, people groups
and issues for prayer each day. A separate children's edition is also
available.

HAVE A HEART FOR MISSIONS... AT THE HEARTLAND MISSIONSFEST
Churches,
missions agencies and others involved in the Great Commission are invited
to plan towards the next Heartland MissionsFest, February 20-22, 1997, in
Tulsa, Oklahoma. The conference theme is "Light Your World" and will focus
on international missions and prayer. Confirmed speakers include missions
authors C. Peter Wagner, Prayer Warrior Series; Patrick Johnstone,
Operation World; Steve Hawthorne, Prayerwalking; Neil Pirolo, Serving As
Senders; Esther Ilnisky, What About the Children?. Shane Bennett from Caleb
Project will also present training on Joshua Project 2000 Research
Expeditions. The previous conference last February drew over 1,300
participants from 15 states, 20 schools, 100 churches, and 105 missions
agencies. In answer to much prayer, the Lord of the Harvest gathered
Baptists, Charismatics, Lutherans, Methodist, Pentecostals and
Presbyterians for what organizers are calling the largest annual
interdenominational missions conference in America. This three-day
conference includes a variety of workshops targeted toward individual
interests. Sessions include Steps to the Field, Support-raising,
Cross-cultural Communications, International Business, Medical missions and
Missions Strategies. Participants can learn from 50 workshops and 100
missions agency exhibits. Individuals may register at $15 per day or $7

JOHN ROBB SEEKS PRAYER FOR ETHNIC L.A.
LIFT (Lifting Intercession
for Transformation) Southern California is an interdenominational and
interethnic prayer effort scheduled for November 14-23. Dubbed "Ten Days to

RESEARCHER NEEDS AFRICAN AMERICAN LEADS
Jim Sutherland
sutherlandj@utc.campus.mci.net writes, "I'm researching why there are so
few African American cross cultural missionaries. My method is to give a
questionnaire to African American missionaries who are serving those who
are NOT African American, in this country or abroad, and who have been on
the field at least one year, currently or in the past. I'd appreciate the
names and addresses of such missionaries, or whatever information your
readers might have, including mission names. Also I'd appreciate
suggestions for contacting others on the Internet with whom I might network

WHAT'S A BODY TO DO!
I've been thinking this week.... just 5 days
before a major event in my life... Envision '96, of which I'm supposed to
be President... and I'm perplexed as to what to do next. My task list is a
mile long. I've got to prepare my Friday evening address, work out
on-screen graphics for the IMAG projection system, help coordinate
practice/sound checks, confirm exhibit arrangements, make telephone calls,
continue to push for last minute registrations (which are now over 47,000
-- representing 47,000 individuals who individually or as a church are
offering a show of support for what we're doing in Lexington, KY, Nov.
1-3!), prepare for a brief address at the kick-off of the torch run, help
my buddy work out details for the all-day Friday "Pit-Stop" for
congregations taking responsibility to plant churches among least reached
peoples, . . . . and the list goes on. Suddenly it hit me. This is
ridiculous. There's no way I'll finish this list. Had a long talk with my
wife, Penny. Called a family meeting with the boys (10 and 7). Everybody
was in favor... and willing. So... what am I doing? I'm taking a queue
from Wesley. People say he used to quip, "I've got so much to do today, I
dare not begin without an hour of prayer." I figure if Wesley needed an
hour, I can use two days! So... I'm headed to the woods to camp out...
away from telephones, email, and the worldwide web. I'm praying that God
will use Envision '96 for His glory and for the expansion of His kingdom.
As for my task list? Hey... we've been preparing for this event for two
years. If I haven't done it by now, then two days isn't going to break me.
Besides... if it's going to get done, it'll take a miracle anyway!
So what am I going to pray for:
- That God will anoint the times
of worship and truly visit all who attend.
- That He will cause a mighty river to surge... a river of response for
unreached people around the globe.
- That He will work within my own life to constantly renew me... and use
this event to add more effort to that flowing stream.
- and for all Brigada subscribers... that God will use them too.
I'll try
to pray for each one by name during the next 48 hours... and that includes
you!
