BETHANY CHURNING OUT MORE PROFILES!
Have you checked out
http://www.bethany-wpc.org lately? Bethany is churning away at more of
those Joshua Project 2000 Prayer Profiles! In addition, they can now make
printed copies available. "Some 100 profiles have been completed to date,"
they wrote this past week. "Individual people group profiles will be
distributed in packs of 5 each. Each packet will be available for a cost
of $1.00. (A minimum order of $5.00 is required. A catalogue is
available.) The catalogue will then be updated each month to include
additional profiles." For more information and a catalogue of the profiles,
contact the Bethany World Prayer Center at 13855 Plank Rd., Baker, La.
70739, Tel (504)774-2002, Fax (504)774-2001, Email
upg@bethany-wpc.org.
Thanks Rick, Gabriela, and everyone at Bethany for the labor of love you're
pouring into this research! We need it.. and we need you... so keep it up
please!!! Now to the rest of us... (as
the To the Ends of the Earth
video (long version) suggests) we need to turn their information into
prayer and turn prayer into discipleship and turn discipleship into church
planting!

A DATE WITH DESTINY FOR THE SINDHIS
Want to know how you might be
able to set up a prayer calendar for the people group you're hoping to lift
up in prayer? Get a sample from Paul E. Pegors
73773.530@CompuServe.COM,
retired missionary to the Sindhis of Pakistan and now a People Specific
Advocate for the Sindhis, who has developed a 1997 prayer calendar for the
Sindhis. The Sindhis of Pakistan are a least evangelized people of
14,000,000. He writes, "The Calendars use some excellent line drawings done
by Mark Naylor of Shikarpur; it is B & W, on a heavy quality white stock
8.5 x 11 inches on seven pages with a cardboard backing, punched at the
top. We are asking $1.00 per calendar cost to cover printing and postage;
however on orders of 10 or more the price will be $0.90 each. Please
consider this an opportunity to encourage prayer for Sindhis Worldwide."
You can gain ideas and . . . who knows. . . maybe even lift up the Sindhis
while you study his format!
Write Paul directly for more information.

YOUR STAFF OF 18 TRAVEL AGENTS AWAIT YOUR BIDDING!
Don't forget about
brigada-travel-bids! I've used it
twice successfully just in the past
week. You don't even have to join. (MAFxc has adjusted this conference so
that non-members' messages don't bounce!
Only travel agents have to
subscribe. The rest of us just reap the benefits!) Just send a note to
brigada-travel-bids@xc.org with your "request for quote" enclosed. Don't
forget to include date(s) of travel and any preferred arrival times,
airlines, or other stipulations. In both my instances, I had competing
quotes back within 2 hours . . . some by email, some by fax, and a couple
by telephone. Hey -- within 3 quotes you see the market price... so then
you just pick out the best value/itinerary and book it! Nice people. 18
travel agents ready for action and quick response. And by the way, if
you're a travel agent and you'd like a piece of the bidding action, just
send a note to
hub@xc.org

CHILDREN AT RISK....
As a follow-up to the recent request for info.
on "street kids", here's hope for children of the world... The Oxford
Centre for Mission Studies and The Viva Network - along with more than a
dozen agencies working with children worldwide - are sponsoring an
International Consultation on Children At Risk. Hopeful outcomes include
looking at case studies, networking, and sharing resources to make a
difference. It's all set for January 6-10th, 1997 in Oxford, England. For
a registration form or information about costs and other specifics, write
ocms@xc.org or
help@viva.org. Sounds like a fine program.

GLOBAL GLIMPSE ON DETERMINATION
On 12th October 1996, the Indian
evangelist Sadhu Chellappa held a crusade in the previously unreached town
of Kandarvakkottai, Tamil Nadu. Despite threats from the fanatic Hindu
RSS party, the event was scheduled to start at 6:30pm. 1,000 of the town's
6,000 inhabitants came to listen, but the RSS was not so easily put off:
they cut off the town's electricity supply. However the Christians had a
diesel generator to power the lights and 32 loudspeakers. For the duration
of the event there were no other sources of noise and the preacher's voice
could be heard clearly throughout the town. According to Chellappa,
hundreds accepted the gospel that evening. The newly-planted church is now
attended by over 150 people.

SO, . . . SUPPOSE SOMEONE WANTED TO FIND A MISSIONARY IN BURUNDI...
How would they do it? Right now, there's really no way. Unless... you
just happen to know of someone who is a missionary in Burundi... or knows
someone who is a missionary in Burundi, . . . and in that case, Lee
Jantzen, of the Baptist General Conference
LJBGC@aol.com would like to
hear from you. He's trying to dig up someone to help a specific missionary
veteran in the capitol who apparently needs to receive some medicine fast.
Hey... I'm a sucker for missionary types!
So write Lee directly if you
can think of a way to help!

WINDS OF REVIVAL ARE BLOWING IN THE AMERICAS!
Want to find out
more??? Then it sounds like you want to attend the AD2000 & Beyond meeting
in Panama City, Panama December 27-30, '96, "Conference on Evangelization
and Missions -- LATINOAMERICA 2000." What's it all about? Who are they
inviting??? "The winds of revival are blowing in the Americas, conference
organizers told us this past week. "Everywhere the forces of God's Kingdom
advance, unstoppable. The living forces of the Church have been invited
to meet in Panama: Denominational leaders, pastors, youth leaders, women's
and children's leaders, professionals, executives, businessmen,
politicians, athletes, artists,...." Surely you fit in there somewhere???
So if Latin America is on your heart, then Panama City better be on your
passport! Write
rolandoj@ccci.org for a registration form today!

SEEN VOX?
If not, and if you're interested in Generation X, you
probably need to. Get a copy of
Caleb Project's new Vox magazine by
contacting Michael Schwartz at Caleb Project, 303-730-4170, Fax: 303-730-4177,
vox@cproject.com. He's also accepting ads for the next
edition, in case you'd like your information to be read by a large
percentage of globally minded Generation X-ers.

ANOTHER IMPONDERABLE...
Out of the Czech Republic comes.... [drum
roll sound effects ON]
another imponderable! The Bischoff's in Blansko
write, "If buttered bread always falls buttered side down and cats always
land on their feet, what would happen if you tied a piece of buttered bread
to the back of a cat and they both went out the window?" Folks, just
remember you heard it first right here in Brigada Today.

SO IN CASE YOU HEAR ABOUT THIS... IRINA VIRUS... OR GOOD TIMES....
(So where have you been? Hasn't everyone
on the planet gotten a warning
about "Good Times?"
) Please pretend
you didn't! How many of us have
gotten two million of these warnings by well-intentioned friends (all of
whom to which we owe a huge debt of gratitude for their concern for us!)
who are miserably uninformed about the fact that it's a big hoax and the
only virus is the Internet bandwidth they're wasting by continuing to send
out additional warnings! The Irina thing is a new form of the hoax, as
verified by MAF's resident tech, Jonathan Marsden, this past week. If you
want to know more, use Jonathan's virus info page
http://www.xc.org/jonathan to find the search form. Type in the word
'irina' (or whatever other virus you'd like to find), and press the Search
button. A couple of links later will reveal the following info from the
DataFellows virus database: "NAME: Irina - There is no virus by this
name. This was a virus hoax in September 1996 started by Penguin Books.
Ignore it. See also Good Times for more info." Additionally, Jonathan
wrote this past week, "The VGREP online virus name database returns no
info, as there is no such virus!" So... go ahead and relax...
for now.

UNLOCK THE MYSTERIES OF CENTRAL ASIA!
This past Saturday, I met with
a buddy in Louisville to pray and plan for Central Asia. We think we've
found the place for us to get "up to speed" about what our next steps
should be. It's the Central Asia Study Center, dedicated to equipping
laborers for the harvest in Central Asia. They've got a program coming up
from June 2nd to August 1st, 1997 -- and I'm convinced that my buddy or I
have to get there for at least part of it. CASC is a place for those who
want hands-on preparation and exposure to the religion and culture of
Central Asia. CASC is located in a Muslim environment with Central Asian
Muslim people groups - placed close to the action. For more information
and course descriptions contact Dr. Robert Douglas tel. (217) 732-3169; Fax (217) 732-1821 or
rcdouglas@prairienet.org. I'm emailing him tonight.

ANOTHER OPTION FOR C-SERVERS
Last week we mentioned Compuserve's new
3.0.1 software - and complained ever-so-slightly about its "disk-hogging"
footprint on our hard-drives. Well later in the week, Yohan Rocklin
75121.16@CompuServe.COM reminded us of WinCim 2.5,
also available from
Compuserve. Yohan testified, "The online time was reduced by almost 50%,
resulting in substantial savings, as I have to pay for long distance
charges to reach a node. For example my online time for sending 5 messages
and receiving 8 is under one minute! If there is no mail waiting the online
time is 4 seconds! Try that with any other program or provider." Yikes
Yohan. You might be onto something! I've ordered my free copy of 2.5!
You've convinced me!
Yohan also urged those who live in "sensitive"
areas to use something proprietary like Compuserve and dial outside the
country for access. According to Yohan, this would seriously reduce the
possibility of messages being read by eyes peering "over one's shoulders".

WHAT MUST LEADERS DO?
David Mays, an ACMC regional rep.,
102100.2020@CompuServe.COM, wrote this past week to quote the November 11
NetFax from Leadership Network which listed 10 observations for
leaders (obtained from Lay Communique by the Alban Institute). David
commented, "Of the ten, I think #10 is the most significant. ... Leaders
must manage their stress, set priorities, control their calendar, live a
blanched life, have time to reflect on the big picture, build a support
system including mentors and teachers, engage in continuous learning, pay
attention to their spiritual journey." Now... the question is, . . . are
we willing to pay the piper and start doing it?!

FINISHED YOUR CHRISTMAS SHOPPING? I DON'T THINK SO....
Because
we've got one more request for your "wish list"!
This past week, I
talked with John Hanna at Caleb Project and, . . . well, . . . their
creative juices are at it again. Their prayer committee is asking those of
us in the Brigada network to do them a big favor.... Well... it's not
exactly for them. It's for the least reached. You see, their Prayer
Committee is proposing that we make December "Pray for an advocate" month.
John wrote, "What better gift to give an unreached people group than an
advocate!?" Good point. So, here's the deal. There are about 4000 of us,
right? And maybe 600 or so of us
actually read
the Brigada Today,
right?
So how 'bout choosing a people group that you want to see an
advocate for and then pray each day in December that God would raise up
someone to fill this role. If you have no idea which group to pray for,
please choose one of the
priority one groups from Joshua Project list. If you need a copy of the
list of priority one groups, here's a quick and dirty way to bring it on
home right into your email "inbox". Send email to
hub@xc.org
[Gomer Pile
accent ON] (Surprise, surprise, surprise!) [Gomer Pile accent OFF] with
only the following line of text in the message:
get brigada priorityone
There must be 130 or so priority one groups (groups defined by having the
largest populations of the JP2000 list of 1739 least reached peoples, with
the least amount of "work among" activity reported and the least amount of
evangelical Christians known), so this will only be a 2-3 page document, .
. . but what a difference some prayer could make in their Christmas this
season!
You can let John Hanna
jhanna@cproject.com at Caleb Project know which
group you are praying for and he can let you know how God answers your
prayers. What's more, John's just agreed to a key position to help set up a
special consultation for people specific advocates for the AD2000 & Beyond
Movement in April.
If we pray now, maybe
the new advocates that your
prayers raise up can still make it to the meeting!
So, when you lead in prayer in December - or while you're out there in the
snow doing those Christmas carols... or if you're in some remote jungle in
PNG or East Africa and you don't have snow but you have the Christmas
spirit . . . , don't forget to mention the need for a people group advocate
for your chosen group! Thanks!
