GET YOUR PRAYER CARDS "BOOKMARK STYLE"
Now there's a new style prayer
card that just might be a bit more affordable and unique -- bookmarks!
According to David Wedge, who ordered his from Ron Urbanovitch at
MPS@xc.org, they were around $150 for 500 and he got them in an amazing
48-hour turnaround, including overnight shipping both ways! Now that's
fast business!

DON'T FORGET TO GET YOUR FREE SOFTWARE
Want to try the new PGP freeware? Grab it at
http://web.mit.edu/network/pgp.html. And also,
don't miss the chance at a free 30-day trialware version of PGP for
Personal Privacy (commercialware), Version 5.0 at http://www.pgp.com.
According to dozens of reports, this new version is revolutionary in its
ease of use. No word yet on the European/International version. (If you
hear some news on that one, I'd appreciate getting a note on it so we can
relay it here! Frank and many others want to know.) But the freeware at
the MIT web site is apparently very friendly and very powerful and very free.
And Canadians are legally welcome to it as well! Yahooo!

HERE'S A SURVEY YOU'VE GOT TO SEE TO BELIEVE
Okay. This one tops it all. We've had readers compile reports on everything from security to
tentmaking to 'how do you file Brigada Today' -- but if memory serves,
this is the first time we've interviewed pregnant folks.
But ... then again you always knew we were a bit adventurous!
And after all, inquiring minds want to know!
Dr. I. Dale Carroll is doing a study on
any USA residents who have had part or all of a pregnancy overseas since
1990 (including miscarriages). I know, I know. You're saying, "What in
the world does this have to do with missions?" Well -- the good doctor has
assured us that she'd send us an electronic form of the abstract -- the
summary of the survey results -- which we can then make available to all
missionary moms. If you've ever been involved in anything medical while
serving overseas, I have a hunch you'll understand that this is significant
stuff. You can't (nor should you)
separate the family out of
missionary life and work -- they go together. So -- if you're game to be
surveyed and if you qualify, contact Dr. Dale Carroll at
TravDoc@compuserve.com, The Pregnant Traveler, 983 Miners Road, St.
Joseph, MI 49085, phone 616-428-4996 (fax--616-428-0977). In case you were
wondering, Dr. Carroll is a member of the Southwestern Medical Clinic in
Berrien Center, MI, a 40-person multispecialty group with a heavy missions
emphasis. She is a board-certified OB/GYN with considerable overseas
experience and is also now certified in Travel Medicine, we're also making
plans for a Travel Medicine clinic.

INTERNATIONAL INSURANCE INSIGHTS FROM JEFF
Jeff Gulleson is kicking off a quarterly mailing called International Insurance Insights. Contact him
goodnbor@juno.com if you're interested in receiving a free copy. He
sent a copy of the first issue which dealt with pre-existing conditions and
provided a sample of a policy or two that he sells. Jeff's not the only one
out there making international policies available... but he's at least one
you should probably add to your list of options. Thanks Jeff!

COOL TOOLS
Well, as of immediately, you can place secure orders at
Caleb Project's web site

best mobilization resources around... just browse the web!

CHINA FORUM NOW AVAILABLE FROM TOP RESEARCHERS
Justin Long (of David Barrett's office) is hard at work these days kicking off a new bulletin
with general objective feedback on China. He wrote this past week, "This
service will be moderated and screened, and will transmit regular bulletins
on China. We will feature a Question & Answer forum where you can request
information from long-time China observers, and information on the latest
evangelistic opportunities and resources that are available. We expect to
post 1 or 2 bulletins per week." To subscribe, just e-mail your name,
organization, country of origin, and e-mail address to
JustinLong@xc.org
with the phrase
CSCO China Mail List
in the subject line. You'll be glad you did!

YOUR CHANCE FOR A SHORT-TERM TRIP WITH LONG-TERM RESULTS IN GERMANY
In cooperation with a local church in Berlin AIMS Germany plans to
penetrate (with prayer and more!) Kreuzberg's immigrant area, where tens of
thousands of 10/40 window people live. We would love to welcome people from
outside our city's and country's borders who want to join us in prayer
during this event (October 6-10) to see a breakthrough in the area.
Individuals and prayer teams who wish to come and even stay longer are more
than welcome. We want to see this part of town that has the same number of
mosques as churches to become once again "a hill of the cross" - that's the
literal translation of its name... For more info contact Kerstin at

UNITED PARSEE POST
The World Parsee Youth Congress (in UK) started
today (July 4-11) with the Adult Parsee Seminar scheduled to follow
immediately on its tail. According to one source, this is "an attempt to
enslave Parsee youth, teenagers and students to false gods. If you're
interested and/or can pray, browse
http//web2.airmail.net/babbitt/parsee/messages/ or write
ferozegolwalla@juno.com.

SEEKING YOUR IDEAS FOR A "MISSION HALL" OF FAME
Suzanne Melear
newlife@swbell.net would like to assemble a sampler platter of your best
ideas for decorating a "missions hall" at her church. "The right side is a
solid wall about 40-50 feet, one door on the end of each. The other side
is divided by several doors and then a glass wall case on one side (about
10 feet by 4). I really want it to be classy, but bold and to effectively
communicate our missionaries to the body...and communicate the great
commission." You've probably tried something similar. We'll ask Suzanne
to knit together all the ideas she receives then send it in to us for
posting here as a "get" file. So send her your best! Thanks Suzanne!

NIGHTMARE ON AUTO-RESPONDER-STREET
Got a great follow up note from
Mike (regarding last week's item about vacation mail). "A little knowledge
is dangerous! I recently went on a ministry trip and rushed to get the
'vacation' programme running on my internet providers server. They had
made a small systems change since last time I used 'vacation' and when I
came home a week later I had 23,459 messages waiting. Auto-responses went
bouncing around the XC server and my provider like crazy. it took me 7
hours online to delete the junk error messages and save my real mail. Never
again!!!" Word to the wise -- unsubscribe before you enable a "vacation
mail" reminder.

BIBLES TO IRAQ
Praise God for the report from the United Bible
Society regarding the largest Christian literature shipment yet to "The
Last Frontier." On January 22nd, sixty tons of books were convoyed from
Jordan to Iraq. The shipment consisted of 31,800 Good News Arabic Bibles,
10,000 Children's Bibles, thousands of Scripture calendars and other
Christian biblical handbooks. Pray for the Christians in Iraq who received
and continue distributing these gifts. Wow!

TELL A FRIEND ABOUT TELEAMIGO
TeleAmigo is a telephone counseling
which has proved successful as both evangelism and ministry. It uses a
"dial-a-prayer" approach, but at the end of the message, another number is
given for counseling. "This to inform you that in May, TELEAMIGO-Cali
registered the highest number of calls in one month it has ever received in
its 19 year history," wrote John Magyar, media consultant, International
Mission Board, SBC to Spanish South America in a note to Mark Snowden, a
friend of ours from IMB headquarters. "A total number of 100,684 were
registered for that month. In a normal year, this ministry registers
about one million calls. Over the years, TA counselors have helped
thousands, hundreds have come to Christ, and two churches were begun in
Cali with strategic support from TELEAMIGO. TA has also helped launch
similar ministries in Caracas, Venezuela, Guayaquil, Ecuador, Santa Cruz,
Bolivia and Buenos Aires, Argentina. You can write Mark at
Mark.Snowden@IMB.org.

LANDMARK UNREACHED PEOPLE VIDEOS
Dave Dunlap stumbled upon some unreached people videos while attending a conference last weekend in
Louisville. There's a total of 8, 1 each on the Arab American people,
Sudanese people, Minangkabau people, Rock people, Madurese people, Albanian
people, Romany (gypsy) people, and the Pattani Malay people. At the
conference, they sold for $4.95 each, or all 8 for $29.95! They're very
excellent quality produced by Randy Durham, CBN, in N.C., and priced to get
them into the hands of us folks who will champion establishing churches
among them! CBF offices in Atlanta can be reached at (888) 801-4223.
Dave's at
104165.2242@compuserve.com and produces videos on his own as well.

HOW DO WE GET THEM "FROM HERE TO THERE"???
To successfully connect
people into missions as a second-career, those in the know in missions all
agree that training is needed. However, there is no consensus as to what
that training should include and what outcome(s) are desirable. Further
there is generally an incomplete or incorrect understanding as to what the
various mission agencies, training organizations, and colleges provide in
the way of training by those in mission agencies, training organizations
and colleges.
Therefore, there's this new momentum coming from the "Finshers Project"
that's trying to change all that. The Finishers Project is hosting a
consultation November 7&8, 1997 on the campus of Fuller Seminary to
consider what training is AVAILABLE and APPROPRIATE for second-career
candidates to serve in mission by assignment type. The session will be
conducted with Drs. Phil Elkins (Mission Training and Resource Center);
Eddie Elliston (Fuller); Doug Kinne (Crossroads, YWAM); and Stacy Rinehart
(CoMission Training Coordinator, Navigators). The NEXT STEP movement
spearheaded by Woody Phillips of United World Mission will also be
represented. That cooperative effort is designed to provide a standard of
training and accreditation so that agencies will consider people trained if
they complete in any participating training program. This is designed to
set a consensus standard and eliminate training duplication so resources
can be more effectively used on the front lines. There is no fee to attend
the Fuller consultation. If you would like to participate and present what
training approaches your organization finds useful, what works, what was
tried and does not work, the successes and outcomes, contact Mr. Nelson
Malwitz, Finishers Project Chairman, Walnut Hill Community Church, 156
Walnut Hill Road, Bethel, CT 06801; Fax: (203)-796-7377; e-mail:
nelsonm@compuserve.com.

THE CONFERENCE BEGINS!
GCOWE in South Africa is in full swing.
Those subscribed to the press release conference are getting some very
exciting and thorough reports from Pretoria, South Africa. The opening
session was held at Hatfield church with a capacity crowd of 5,000 people.
Pete Holzmann, of AD2000's Interactive Task Force, wrote, "For the nearly
4,000 delegates the opening worship songs were a culmination of a year of
planning and a taste of what heaven will be like when people worship at
the throne from every nation."
From a look at the GCOWE 97 registration database some interesting facts
and trends emerge (these also from Pete): 80% of the delegates are
citizens of countries that formerly were viewed as missionary receiving
countries. This consultation shows that the missionary leadership base is
now firmly established in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Fact: GCOWE participants are 76.5% men and 23.5% women
Observation: Women have a strong presence in missionary leadership.
Fact: Total GCOWE registration fees came 64% from Africa, Asia and Latin
America. 36% came from Western Europe, USA, Canada, New Zealand and
Australia. Observation: GCOWE 97 is being financed primarily through
citizens of Africa, Asia and Latin America. ...
Fact: 11% of the delegates attended GCOWE 95 in Korea 5% of the delegates
attended Lausanne 89. 3.7% of the delegates attended Amsterdam 86.
Observation: New people are being exposed to this Global Consultation
rather than just the same people attending consultation after consultation.
Fact: 30% of the delegates have an e-mail address. Observation: Missionary
leaders are keeping up with new technology to network with one another.
| Fact: | 5% | of the delegates are age 60 or older |
| 18% | of the delegates are age 50 to 59 |
| 36% | of the delegates are age 40 to 49 |
| 30% | of the delegates are age 30 to 39 |
| 10% | of the delegates are under age 30 |
Observation: There is a pretty even age spread among GCOWE delegates. This
shows that missions is benefiting from the wisdom of the older people. This
also gives some indication that there will be enough replacements when the
oldest generation retires.
