THE MAIL MUST GO THROUGH . . . OR MUST IT?
MAFxc is the brains and bravado behind the hardware/software combination that makes Brigada
conferences possible. So what happens when they have a hardware or
software hiccup? They work around the clock trying to make things right.
However, sometimes the best efforts still don't result in instant fixes.
For example, when the MAFxc mail server takes a dive, like it did last
weekend during what should have been a fairly routine software upgrade,
some fancy footwork should spool your mail to a "holding queue," where it
resides until things come back on line. But -- reality says that despite
high tech wizardry and intense passion for connecting global ministry,
MAFxc is sometimes going to experience enough of a snafu that you'll lose
some mail... and that's what happened last week. We sent the July 18th
Brigada Today at 11:14am on July 20th but... as best we can tell, not a
single person on the 5000+ list received it. We then waited several days to
see if the hub would spool it out . . . until last night (July 26th), when
we finally gave up and re-sent it. So -- bottom line -- sorry for the
delay. But I guess sometimes the mail (the electronic version, that is)
just doesn't get through. So what can we learn from this? For one
thing, in your daily email communication with friends and co-workers across
the globe, maybe it's good to acknowledge receipt of any piece of
important mail. Even if you only send a brief one-liner that says, "Got
your message -- thanks!," you will have confirmed receipt. Of course,
we're not suggesting that all 5000 people confirm
receipt of Brigada Today!
It's just not possible to be certain in every case!

PIT-STOP RALEIGH SET TO FEATURE MANNA CHURCH
Have you been wanting to learn more about the Manna Church of Fayetteville, NC, which has worked
incredibly hard to compile a list of [so far] some 20,000 individuals and
groups willing to pray for the groups on the Joshua Project list of
unreached peoples? Well, now you can! Pit-Stop Raleigh is set for Sept. 19-20th
at Peace College, Raleigh, NC. Pit-Stops are designed to facilitate
the global ministry of those congregations who are wanting to adopt and
take responsibility for planting a vibrant new church among some unreached
people group. At these regional gatherings called Pit-Stops, church
leaders learn practical steps (basically, "pert chart" consisting of some
400 action check-points) that have helped others complete the work of
cross-cultural church-planting. Past Pit-Stops have been held in cities
like St. Louis, Dayton, Louisville, Lexington. But Raleigh is the
easternmost location to date... so if your church is located on the eastern
seaboard, here's your chance to network, hear case studies, share lessons
learned, and be inspired and challenged to move forward in adopting some
least reached people. Write
psraleigh@aol.com for more information... and
pray that God will prepare us for works of service!

1997 MEDICAL MISSION CONFERENCE
On November 7-8, 1997, Southeast
Christian Church will present its second annual medical mission conference.
Last year over 220 participants from nine states heard many inspiring
speakers on the subjects of Medical Missions and Tropical Medicine. This
year the conference will open Friday night with an upbeat praise and
worship service led by the Senior High Youth worship group and Mike Breaux
will preach on "The Primacy of Prayer". Regions of the World will follow
with many different mission agencies presenting displays which show the
countries of the world they serve and give you an opportunity to
participate with them. Saturday morning will present lectures from short
term and career physicians and nurses presenting the joys and the obstacles
of their work as well as a lecture on Culture Shock and Bivocational
Mission Work. Saturday afternoon will consist of break-out sessions
concentrating on specific medical and dental disease processes; and how to
set up medical mission work in your own church as well as how to become a
team leader. Nurses will receive 5 contact hours and physicians will
receive 5 hours of C.M.E. credit. There is no fee for this course. For more
information,

WEBWATCH
Have you seen
http://www.state.gov/www/global/human_rights/970722_relig_rpt_christian.html,
which gives the USA policy on support of religious freedom? Check it
out . . . and thanks for the tip, Jim! Also, don't miss the software at
http://www.xc.org/helpintl/computer/cm-zipbt.htm which will sort
addresses according to US Post Office requirements and print the labels
with barcodes. And thanks to Helps International Ministries! Also, don't miss
http://www.broadcaster.co.uk/, the "World Wide Web Broadcaster" is a
free service that submits your site info to over 235 search engines. As
with other programs and services, this doesn't automatically mean that all
engines will accept your information. Typically, your information will be
relevant to about half of them. Thanks to Anton and Gene for the tip!

SPYING ON SAT-7 SATELLITE SERVICE
SAT-7 is a dynamic new television
service for the Christians of the Middle East and North Africa. Programs
are culturally sensitive and appropriate for the religious and political
ethos of the region, while providing an attractive alternative to both
local broadcasts and western channels. SAT-7's initial 2 hours per week
service started in 1996 and has been enthusiastically received by viewers
right across the region. It currently broadcasts for 4 hours per week and
the footprint now covers from Morocco to Thailand! It will extend to a
daily schedule in multiple-languages by the end of the decade. The latest
promotional video is finished and can be obtained by sending an email to
admin@sat7.org. Also check out
http://www.sat7.org/fosat7.htm to learn
more about the "Friends of Sat-7." Thanks Nick!

GLOBAL GLIMPSE FROM AFRICA
Liberia is a small forested country on
Africa's coast near the equator. This spring a Gospel Recordings team
visited a number of refugee camps in Liberia, home to many displaced in
Liberia's recent civil war. February 22 the Jesus Film brought a large
crowd to Vonzon Camp. The Muslim leaders almost fought because each of
them wanted the film to be shown before his house. However the Imam
intervened and they carried the show in front of his house. Through its
course 9038 people watched the film and 6326 people accepted Christ as
their Lord and Savior. Among them were 486 strong Muslims and 459
children. The next day 113 Muslim converts went to Church for the first time.

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS MOVING IN GUATEMALA
During the past year Yellow
River Productions International has been working in Quetzaltenanago,
Guatemala with Verbo Ministries building a small television studio. They
have developed two weekly television programs, and produced sixty video
tapes for use in areas that have no cable television. Christian Education
productions have been shown in several other Latin America countries. The
Lord is opening a door to reach some 2,000,000 viewers in Guatemala City.
