Just received a new update from the Christian Information Network (July 1997 report):
UNREACHED PEOPLE GROUPS: Luis Bush, International Director of AD2000 & Beyond reports that of the 1,739 unreached people groups identified 1995, ONLY 579 groups remain without an established indigenous church. Many groups were adopted at GCOWE and the new number will be announced in the near future.
PEOPLE PROFILES: Bethany World Prayer Center averages a translation of 30-35 unreached people groups weekly. Efforts are being made to have the group's information translated into Spanish as well, for all Latin countries.
RADIO: PTTWIII committee members are pursuing radio as a medium to make more people aware of the "unreached people groups" of the 10/40 Window, and that these groups are being assigned for prayer and adoption through Christian Information Network. They are also approaching Christian recording artists to get behind the project for a "big push" as Fall 1997 approaches. Global Harvest did a large distribution to Spanish radio stations of the Praying Through The Window III book translated into Spanish.
CAMPUS INVOLVEMENT: Praying Through The Window III materials were made available to the GCOWE leadership in S. Africa to draw students worldwide into the 10/40 Window project, as they are being prepared for the next millennium. Approximately 300 students and deans heard the report. Christian Information Network mailed a letter to students of 400 English speaking seminaries and Bible Colleges in other countries. Here's the original Global Glimpse describing the initial situation: "Lori
and Eugene Nij have served as missionaries in San Raymundo, Guatemala for
over a decade. Over that time with the help of the New Iberian Mission
Association they have built an orphanage, a Free School and a number of
churches despite governmental opposition. In spite of over 300 witnesses,
including police officers, Eugene was arrested and put in with general
prison population. Undaunted, Eugene has been preaching and evangelizing
at every opportunity. Tonight this small Mayan preacher, in love with his
people, is lying on a concrete floor, giving praise to his God that he was
chosen for this ministry, praying that he can reach "one more" before his
time is up."
(Global Glimpse is compiled each week by John Hanna, Caleb
Project, Littleton, CO.)
