FORWARDING SERVICES TAKE A STEP FORWARD
Wow.
Tons of email traffic
on forwarding services (last week's item "
ANOTHER LOOK AT FORWARDING
SERVICES"). I didn't realize this was such a hot topic. Several have
their favorite service... including...
http://www.four11.com,
http://www.mailexcite.com,
http://www2.cyberspace.com.ph/~mckinney/alias.htm,
http:/ www.bigfoot.com>. But remember, we aren't the source for more
information on these or other email forwarding services. To learn more
about them, contact them, not Brigada.

DOING GRAPHICS FOR THE KINGDOM?
Grace Wiebe says Bert VandenBos is
one of the best. You can try him out at Kingdom Graphics,
Fax: 215 657-4847, Voice: 215 657-5888, e-mail:
103210.2503@compuserve.com. Grace
says Bert does "gorgeous missions cards which can be used to send to folks
like prayer/financial supporters, etc. I have sent out many of these! ...
excellent note pads with missions graphics, they have excellent clip art
with missions graphics, and many many other items -- basic missions conf.
brochure layout ideas, etc., etc. -- even logo development." For a parallel
bid, you could also try Communication by Design. They'll help with your
newsletter, graphics, slide presentations, and more. Owned & operated by a
'missionary-in-training' who would love to offer their services to all
whose purpose is to proclaim the 'kingdom' to all 'nations'. All jobs
obtained through Brigada will be charged at reduced prices and proceeds
will assist said 'missionary-in-training' to cover the cost of living in
the states prior to overseas departure. Interested? Contact
TAMoyer@aol.com.

DOING MUSIC AND THE ARTS? GRACE WANTS TO KNOW
... because he's compiling a directory! Write

involved!

GET MISSIONARY TRAINING PLUS CROSS-CULTURAL & SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE
Ever wish you could train your new mission recruits in skills while they're
building character? Now you can, thanks to a joint-venture between YWAM
and Wycliffe Bible Translators. The Missionary Training Program (MTP) will
combine Wycliffe's expertise in cross-cultural work
with YWAM's teaching in discipleship training. Grow in your walk with Jesus
and develop missionary skills. The Lecture phase (14 weeks) is at YWAM
Harpenden, England. The Field placement (16 months) takes you to a frontier
missions location. Starts: January 19, 1998 at YWAM Harpenden. For more

MISSION FRONTIERS NOT "WORLDLY" AFTER ALL
Last week we incorrectly
labeled the US Center for World Mission's journal as
being World Mission Frontiers when in fact
it is Mission Frontiers. Apparently one reason
for this common error is that the Editor's email address is
RickWMF@aol.com (note the "WMF"). But the "W" is for Rick's last name
(Wood), not the world! Sorry Rick!

UPDATE ON "A ROOM WITH A VIEW"
As mentioned in the
last issue of
Brigada Today, Jim Huggins
jhuggins@gmi.edu is compiling a current
list of Brigada participants who are interested in hosting missionaries on
deputation/furlough. In addition, Jim is curious to discover which
organizations out there are looking for hosts for their own missionaries?
(i.e. what groups are out there to whom we could send this list of willing
hosts?) Send your responses directly to Jim; he'll summarize for us all.
Thanks Jim!

CONTENT-PROVIDERS NEEDED
Eternity's Edge is looking for advocates &
informed world-changers who can serve as "content-providers" for its web
site. Justin Long writes, "Essentially we're looking for people who are
willing to write a brief (2-3 paragraphs max) update for each country on a
semi-weekly basis. We are especially looking for this for all the 10/40
Window countries." Those interested in helping can email
JustinLong@xc.org. The China page serves as an example of the
potential...

THUMBS UP FOR GOOD TOOLS
Last week, I cut my thumb open royally
while cutting out signboard with a razor knife. The cause was right -- I
was making a VBS mission presentation showing the countries where our
mission, Team Expansion, is laboring. But the tools were wrong -- not
being at home with my thick & heavy aluminum level, I was using a slender
wooden yardstick as my straight edge, and when the knife climbed up the
side on one of my quick slices, . . . well, let's just say that 4 stitches
and a tetanus shot later, I had learned new meaning to the word, "ouch."
As I think back, I believe our ministries are like that sometimes too. We
make noble efforts in the generally right directions, but maybe the wrong
tools or less-than-best approaches sabotage what would otherwise be
noteworthy results. For example, maybe we try to limp by on what little
language we've picked up rather than really tying ourselves into a
full-tilt language study program.
At the front end of the cycle, it always looks quicker to just pick up
whatever tool is close by. But for the long haul, I'm convinced that good
tools not only yield great results, but they also safeguard us from harm's
way. In my case, I'm convinced that my thick red level would have prevented
a ton of inconveniencing pain and blood. In other cases, maybe one could
substitute other kinds of tools or approaches for my red level, such as a
great Bible correspondence course, an accountability group, or even a
particular strategy (such as using Christian films in the town square).
When I visited the doctor earlier this week to have my stitches removed, I
confessed to him that I had smashed my thumb while hammering on hardboard
siding for our new shed -- and not just once, but 3 times! He commented,
"Hmmmm. I don't think they used those kind of stitches. They were only
concerned about keeping out the germs. They didn't know you would need
protection from hammer smashes." I laughed, but he was right. Once I
figured out how to drill pilot holes through that hardboard siding, the
nails just slid into that shed as easy as pie.
So -- bottom line: Production vs. Production capacity. Let's be willing to
invest some time in building our ability to produce -- good approaches,
solid foundations, right methods. Then let's work our approaches with all
the love we can muster, then commit the work to the Lord . . . and He will
see that our plans are established! (Proverbs 16:3).
Have a great week out there. . . .and watch out for those razor knives!
Doug
