- "YOU ARE NOT MY DAUGHTER!" -- Recently on a visit to Windhoek,
Namibia, a city to the south of Hereroland, two missionaries met T. and
her husband, R. T. grew up in the U.K. and she and her parents are well
educated. While in High School, her family returned to Namibia. All
went well until she decided to marry R. She and R. are Christians.
R.'s parents and friends could not understand why she wasn't marrying a
Herero man and why she wanted to be a Christian. Her parents wanted a
traditional Herero wedding, usually lasting 2 to 3 days. She agreed to
this, but then afterwards the couple also had a Christian wedding. Her
parents were not happy. They were talking with the ancestors about her
and eventually were so upset they her father declared she was not his
daughter. Now, T. and R. have a child and her parents love the child,
but she knows that controversy will eventually begin because she will be
raising her daughter in a Christian home. Please pray for T. and R.
Pray that they have strength and faith to continue to raise their
daughter in the way that the Lord would have them raise her. Pray for
other Christian Hereros that also have this challenge in their lives.
Pray that they will also be a good witness to their families and
friends. Pray that the Lord uses them to draw others to Himself. To
adopt the Herero people for prayer or for more information, e-mail

- HELP A NEW MISSIONARY UNDERSTAND CONTEXTUALIZATION -- John is
compiling resources on contextualization. He has three questions to
which he would love to know your answer, all related to definition and
meaning of the term. See them and answer them in a "comment" at:
http://brigada.org/brigade/?p=35
- WE GET JAZZED WHEN YOU HELP BRIGADA -- Honest. When we received the
$25 gift from a Wycliffe worker, we were overjoyed. On top of that,
enough of you talked on the phone in July and August that Dial-Abroad
could send $105.38 in sponsored commissions! Thanks for talking! If
you'd like to set up a similar account, just browse to:
http://www.dial-abroad.org/brigada.htm
Use that site to set up your phone bill, buy travel phone cards, and
help Brigada all at the same time.
Join us in thanking God for the prayer coordinator who sacrificially
gave $25 more dollars to Brigada. Her gift will help us push the gospel
message forward -- and provide resources for others doing the same. And
what about the good folks at the church in Joplin, MO that used ISA to
purchase their trip cancellation insurance? $162.24! We're so thankful.
To purchase your trip insurance at below market rates and help Brigada
too, just click to:
http://www.missionaryhealth.net/brigada.htm
Finally, we're so thankful for the Brigada participant who wrote, "Hi
guys. I've just been sitting here reading all the 'catch-up' issues of
Brigada. What a wealth of information and opportunities. ... I am
always encouraged... I am an ex-YWAMer... My heart is divided between
being a 'goer' and a 'mobilizer.' So as you can see, Brigada is the
perfect vehicle for me to keep a foot in both areas. ... I truly
appreciate the time and effort you put into keeping all of us informed.
What you do *does* make a difference. ... I pray God will supply your
needs to continue this ministry." Whoa. Sobering and encouraging...
Thanks for the booster shot of $100!!!
- GOT ENCOURAGEMENT? TOSS SOME IN TO HELP BRIGADA -- Here's how: Just

You can pull the money from your PayPal account or from any major credit
card. Or if you prefer, send a check payable to Team Expansion to: Team
Expansion (Brigada secretary), 11327 Jefferson Trace Blvd., Louisville,
KY 40291. (Team Expansion is a 501(c)3 incorporation so for USA
citizens, your checks made out to Team Expansion are tax-deductible.) As
always, be sure to let us know if you'd like us to promote any
particular service or ministry, or if you'd prefer your gift be
anonymous. And thank you in advance for helping.
- THE BACKPAGE: THE "M->T-P-A PHENOMENON" -- The letters stand for
"More Tries, More Problems, More Accomplishments." Have you ever
observed it? Sure... if you take more shots in a soccer game (more
tries), odds are stacked in your favor that you'll score more goals
eventually (more accomplishments). But you'll most likely miss more
often too (more problems). And have you noticed that the more stuff you
add to your life, the exponentially more complicated it gets? In other
words, if you already serve on the Missions Committee of your church,
and you accept a spot on the worship team, your life isn't just *twice*
as busy. It feels *three* times as complex! Because now, when the
worship team guy wants you to practice after Wed. eve. service, you
already have Missions Committee. So he's just a *little* let down that
you can't be present -- and now you have to practice some *other* time
to make up for missing! M->T-P-A
Or maybe your mission agency convinces you to help launch a new field.
You have to learn a slightly different language, which, for a while,
seems to get in the way of the *current* language you've just learned,
but in the end, enables you to help launch a new work among a new
unreached people group. M->T-P-A
Have you observed the M->T-P-A phenomenon in your own life? Has it
sometimes created additional stress? If so, how do you cope? Is it worth
it? How do you sort all this out for your own life? Is it helpful to
think of M->TPA? (If so, we just made it up. If not, we're not sure
where we first heard of the term. :-) ) Answer by clicking on "Comment"
at:

- CLOSING STUFF --
SUBSCRIPTION INFORMATION -- Important! Please don't just hit "reply".
Subscriptions are automated. First, you need to determine the mailing
source of your individual copy of Brigada Today. We're now sending them
from 2 sources. To find out, just look at the "From:" address of your
last edition. The domain will tell the tale. Here's how to do it:
If your Brigadas come via YahooGroups:
To unsubscribe, write to brigada-today-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com
To subscribe, write to brigada-today-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
If your Brigadas come via GoogleGroups:
To unsubscribe, write to brigada-today-unsubscribe@googlegroups.com
To subscribe, write to brigada-today-subscribe@googlegroups.com
To change your address, you must unsubscribe using your old address
then subscribe anew using your new service. If you are receiving this
email via some "alias" that you'd like to unsubscribe, try putting that
alias email address in the "From:" box of your email client
temporarily, then send the unsubscribe message (mentioned above). It'll
probably "spoof" the server into unsubscribing that old
address. Then just change your "From:" box back to your new address.
TO SUBMIT AN ITEM -- We love to feature your news & resources! To find
out how, read our submission guidelines on the web at:
http://www.brigada.org/submissions.html
TO LEARN MORE -- Interested in learning more about Brigada? Read our

way, we no longer provide server-sent files via email-activated
commands. Just read all about us on the web!
NEED SUBSCRIPTION HELP? -- If you're a sponsor, you can now write to

real human response. For information about becoming a sponsor, log on

DISCLAIMER -- We can't screen 'em all. Please forgive us if a
particular site contains offensive information -- or no information at
all! We *try* to visit them in advance, but often write "on the road"
so we simply *can't* preview everything.
PLEASE DON'T SUBSCRIBE US TO YOUR LIST -- Sorry -- nothing personal --
but we're already deluged. We'll eventually teach our spam filter to
just delete it anyway, but in the meantime, we'll have a sad face
because of the volume of mass mailings we receive. :-(
WARNING ABOUT FORWARDING EMAILS -- Just say no! :-) Read our thoughts
about forwarding emails at

WHY DO WE SAY, "[replace (at) with @ and (dot) with .]"? -- More and
more shady marketing types ("spammers" and "scammers") are using
computerized searches to harvest email addresses from off the web
without asking permission of the owner. We use this "plain English"
addressing syntax to avert automated harvesting for our contributors.
PRIVACY INFORMATION -- We will never give your information to anybody.
We won't market you, won't hassle you, and won't ever bother you. You
won't be signed up for mailings you didn't request. Your address is safe
