- E-NEWSLETTER FOR CHURCH MISSIONS LEADERS AND AGENCY MOBILIZERS -- POSTINGS is a free, on-line newsletter from Catalyst Services chock full of practical ideas on how to help churches discover and fulfill their global mandate. To subscribe and review past issues, go to:
http://www.catalystservices.org/resources/index.shtml
The January issue focuses on Rapid Response Teams, including the story of how one church has prepared to serve disaster victims in many places, along with information on training, free resources, and more. Other recent issues have featured articles on the essentials of successful international partnerships, new ways to structure the church missions team, and the church/agency/missionary sending triangle. Some issues of POSTINGS specifically address ways missionaries and mission agencies can better collaborate with churches.
- SOUNDS OF GLOBAL WORSHIP NOW INCLUDES 34 SAMPLES ON YOUTUBE -- This is double the number when Brigada first featured this resource. God is receiving worship from many nations, people, tribes and languages in their indigenous heart music. Heart Sounds International has created a YouTube broadcast channel to present a series of these worship videos entitled "Sounds of Global Worship". Click to ...
http://www.youtube.com/HSIOM
Many more videos are to be added in the weeks and months ahead. Available for viewing are worship clips from Azerbaijan, Congo, India and a ton of others. You are welcome to subscribe to the channel, after which you will be notified as new videos are added.
- WHERE CAN WE LEARN ABOUT AFRICAN TRADITIONAL RELIGIONS? -- That's what Earnest would like to know. He wrote recently, "Who would have course materials on African Tradition Religions. We are seeing the younger generation responding to the call of Missions and are looking for practical materials that will help them as they 'launch out' into their calling." Good question. Where can Earnest find help? If you know of a source, just click to:

- SUPERINTENDENT/DIRECTOR WANTED FOR AN INT'L CHRISTIAN SCHOOL -- Chiang Rai International Christian School and the current Family Learning Center are "Serving the Servants" in the beautiful and tropical Golden Triangle area of N. Thailand. CRICS is looking for a Superintendent to lead the Family Learning Center through the process of becoming the Chiang Rai International Christian School. The Superintendent will lead this organization into the future working with a very supportive school board, staff and Ministry of Education in Chiang Rai. Email them at infocrics(at)
gmail(dot)com for more information. [As a means of preventing spam for our contributors, in the preceding email address(es), please replace (at) with @ and (dot) with . and reassemble the address onto one line.]
- DRIP IRRIGATION AS A TOOL FOR EVANGELISM AND CHURCH PLANTING -- Chapin Living Waters exists to help poor people in third world countries grow vegetables when there is insufficient rain. They serve development groups, relief organizations, and mission groups working with people in third world countries. Their "Bucket Kits", consisting of 100 feet of drip hose, fittings and connecting tubing, are ideal for poor families in communities where running water and pumps are not available. The family connects the kit to a 5-gallon bucket elevated at least 1 meter above the ground, and fills the bucket with water twice daily. This simple, inexpensive, gravity fed system will provide enough moisture for a vegetable garden large enough to feed a small family during periods when there is absolutely no rainfall. If you are a pastor, missionary, or NGO, and you feel you can use this technology, please contact Dick to obtain a bucket kit to be used as a tool for outreach. Find them on the web at

- CAREER TRANSITION SERVICES FOR REENTERING MISSIONARIES -- Are you a missionary transitioning to a new career in your passport country? Brad, a former missionary in Africa has been there. He found that generic, government provided resources did not factor in the unique and difficult reality of missionary reentry. Nor did it factor in the missionary's critical need to find meaningful work rather than just a job. Brad provides professional outplacement services to those who have none. He provides an end to end program which prepares reentering missionaries (and those assisting reentering workers) in every way for their transition to the globalized workplace.

- THE DAMARA PEOPLE -- Driving through the town of Karibib in traditional Damaraland, one cannot help but notice the precious marble laying everywhere. This is a town that primarily survives on its marble excavation and marble work. Traditionally the Damara have been thought of as miners, partly due to marble excavation such as in Karibib. Even with this work, the town is still poor. But the most desperate need here is a spiritual need. Pray for the Damara people. Pray that they will soon hear the message that they are most precious to God. Pray that they accept this precious message that will make them truly rich for eternity. To adopt the Damara people for prayer or for more information, please visit

- GIVE TOWARD BRIGADA, GET FREE MP3 MUSIC RECORDED BY DOUG -- [blush] It's true. When you make a gift to Brigada, beginning effective today, [for whatever it's worth :-) ], you'll receive a link to download free mp3 songs recorded by Doug Lucas, founder and editor of Brigada Today. Each of the songs is being recorded using Steinburg CuBase 4.1 on an IBM Thinkpad laptop, connected to a Yamaha S90 ES piano/synthesizer via an mLAN firewire network. Some songs feature as many as 20 unique tracks, including soprano sax, flute, cello, horns and more, all played with greater realism by means of a BC3 breath controller into the back of the S90 ES connecting through a special acoustic PLG 150-VL plug-in card. All you have to do is see the item below to give today -- and make sure you include an email link when you give so we'll know where to send the link. All the tracks are free... and we'll post a new song at the site every week... so it's the gift that keeps on giving... like joining a fig-of-the-week club! :-) :-) What's not to like about that?
- MAKE A DIFFERENCE AT THE WHOLESALE LEVEL -- When you help Brigada, your missions sponsorship empowers church missions committees, agency personnel, *and* overseas workers the world over. Our budget is small -- $17,150 for the whole year. And in the case of Brigada, you know about every penny that came in ... and you also know that we won't take a penny more than our budget throughout the entire year of 2008. One giver called recently to offer to give $1000. Wild to think that it would only take 16 of those to *finish* things for 2008. (That giver had trouble with PayPal, so his gift was never recorded. Just don't forget.. you don't even have to use PayPal. Just look for the link at the bottom of the page, "Use your major credit card" and click right past PayPal. Just click on the "Sponsor/Donate" page then when it asks for your PayPal account, just erase the user name and password, then, at the bottom of the page, where it says "Use any major credit card", just click there and fill it out like a normal form at any other payment web form. (By the way, if you're that gentleman and need help, please don't hesitate to call back for more help. The gift hasn't arrived just yet. :-) ) Or if you prefer, just send an old-fashioned check payable to Team Expansion to: Team Expansion (Brigada secretary), 11327 Jefferson Trace Blvd., Louisville, KY 40291. (Team Expansion is a 501(c)3 incorporation so for USA citizens, your checks made out to Team Expansion are tax-deductible.) As always, be sure to let us know if you'd like us to promote any particular service or ministry, or if you'd prefer your gift be anonymous. And thank you in advance for helping.
- THE BACKPAGE: US ARMY VALUES MAKE SENSE -- My son leaves for the US Army this coming summer. Last night I read through a journal kept by a soldier involved in the same training program that my son will experience. The trainee was recounting the values of the army... "Leadership, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, personal courage." As I read them -- sure enough -- I realized that they actually would also fit with any missionary, mission agency rep., and local church missions leader. So, with this edition of the Back Page, we're starting a series on each value, asking for the best of the best thinking about each value. Click to
http://brigada.org/brigade/?p=64
Then click on "Comment" right below this item. For the first week, let's pick apart the concept of Leadership. Please jot a note about your favorite leadership training resource, the best book you've found, your best thought on leadership in missions, a note about someone who is 'getting it right', a report on an agency or missionary with great leadership traits (use first-name only if you're afraid of revealing sensitive information), or -- write about the *need* for leadership. Tell why and how leadership could make the difference. And, in light of the dissertation for my Ph.D. (the 1st revision of which I *finally* turned in to my university this past week :-) ), please jot down any feelings about "followership" too. We all lead sometimes and follow sometimes. Mention the need for great followers... and tell about someone who has mastered followership in your own group. Again, this week, the emphasis is Leadership. We'll pick on the others later. Thanks for taking time to create a great resource block for all 10,000 Brigada participants!
Doug
- CLOSING STUFF -- SUBSCRIPTION INFORMATION -- Important! Please don't just hit "reply". Subscriptions are automated. First, you need to determine the mailing source of your individual copy of Brigada Today. We're now sending them from 2 sources. To find out, just look at the "From:" address of your last edition. The domain will tell the tale. Here's how to do it:
If your Brigadas come via YahooGroups: To unsubscribe, write to brigada-today-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com To subscribe, write to brigada-today-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
If your Brigadas come via GoogleGroups: To unsubscribe, write to brigada-today-unsubscribe@googlegroups.com To subscribe, write to brigada-today-subscribe@googlegroups.com
To change your address, you must unsubscribe using your old address then subscribe anew using your new service. If you are receiving this email via some "alias" that you'd like to unsubscribe, try putting that alias email address in the "From:" box of your email client temporarily, then send the unsubscribe message (mentioned above). It'll probably "spoof" the server into unsubscribing that old address. Then just change your "From:" box back to your new address.
TO SUBMIT AN ITEM -- We love to feature your news & resources! To find out how, read our submission guidelines on the web at: http://www.brigada.org/submissions.html

DISCLAIMER -- We can't screen 'em all. Please forgive us if a particular site contains offensive information -- or no information at all! We *try* to visit them in advance, but often write "on the road" so we simply *can't* preview everything.
PLEASE DON'T SUBSCRIBE US TO YOUR LIST -- Sorry -- nothing personal -- but we're already deluged. We'll eventually teach our spam filter to just delete it anyway, but in the meantime, we'll have a sad face because of the volume of mass mailings we receive. :-(
WARNING ABOUT FORWARDING EMAILS -- Just say no! :-) Read our thoughts about forwarding emails at http://www.brigada.org/articles/opc.html
WHY DO WE SAY, "[replace (at) with @ and (dot) with .]"? -- More and more shady marketing types ("spammers" and "scammers") are using computerized searches to harvest email addresses from off the web without asking permission of the owner. We use this "plain English" addressing syntax to avert automated harvesting for our contributors.
PRIVACY INFORMATION -- We will never give your information to anybody. We won't market you, won't hassle you, and won't ever bother you. You won't be signed up for mailings you didn't request. Your address is safe and your future is secure. Life is good. :-)
