  1. INT'L CHURCH STEPS UP TO SPONSOR BRIGADA -- Hats *way* off to the member of an International Church in the Middle East. He just wrote, "Five years ago our new pastor was reading Brigada and learned about the Missional International Church Network (MICN.org) and went to their first conference. He's been to each annual conference since then. MICN has given him ideas and encouragement and likeminded friends. Brigada has impacted our pastor and many members of our multicultural congregation. Keep up the Kingdom work!" This gentleman made big history in the Brigada world this past week, when, with hopes of encouraging Brigada onward, he sent a gift of $1,000!!!!!!! Do you realize? ... That's like... incredible. So thanks to all those who labor and encourage. And by the way, you'll recall that once we make our financial goal for the year, we're done. With this gift, the total jumps way up, and with the two donations we also rec'd this past week (one for $20 from Oklahoma and another for $25 Colorado), the total for 2008 is now $2097.29. Do you realize... if just 15 other individuals or churches could step up in the same way, on behalf of the 10,000 participants in Brigada, we'd be *done* for all of 2008!!! Whoa.

  2. ANT TO BE ONE OF THOSE DIFFERENCE-MAKERS? -- If so, just click on the "Sponsor/Donate" page. If you want to use a credit card (and not PayPal), then when it asks for your PayPal account, just erase the user name and password, then, at the bottom of the page, where it says "Use any major credit card", just click there and fill it out like a normal form at any other payment web form. On the other hand, if you want to use PayPal, just fill in the info for your account. Or if you prefer, just send an old-fashioned check payable to Team Expansion to: Team Expansion (Brigada secretary), 11327 Jefferson Trace Blvd., Louisville, KY 40291. (Team Expansion is a 501(c)3 incorporation so for USA citizens, your checks made out to Team Expansion are tax-deductible.) As always, be sure to let us know if you'd like us to promote any particular service or ministry, or if you'd prefer your gift be anonymous. And thank you in advance for helping.

  3. LEARN MORE ABOUT REACHING INTO CHINA -- Founded by Hudson Taylor, OMF International (formerly China Inland Mission and Overseas Missionary Fellowship) continues a strong presence for Christ throughout East Asia. 4. OLYMPICS PUT CHINA ON CENTER STAGE -- The Olympic Games in 2008 put China on center stage. Chinese people everywhere are eagerly anticipating this national "coming out party." "Beijing and Beyond" (April 19, 2008, 9:00 am - 4:30 pm, Grace Brethren Church, Long Beach, CA) is an event that begins in reverent, exuberant worship of the living God who is sovereign over the events of history. OMF General Director, Patrick, will be the main speaker. Experienced long-term missionaries who have served in diverse fields will also share. Workshops will inspire and inform you so that you will be better equipped to serve as a sender or a goer. Visit

  5. NEW DVD RESOURCES ONLINE -- Check out Create International's cool new DVD resources at their online store:

    http://www.createinternational.com/store

They have finished the first ever Contextual Home Gathering video for people from a Thai Buddhist background, complete with indigenous instruments, dance, symbols and appropriate word choices. Other new resources include, "Contextualization in Action", a DVD with over ten workers among Muslim, Hindu and Buddhist people groups, sharing breakthroughs and case studies in using contextual principles that are faithful to scripture yet relevant to culture. Also, the "Contextual Gathering Showreel", which shows six examples of home group gatherings among Hindi, Kurds, Turks, Indonesian, Urdu, and now Thais. Subtitled in English, this is a great tool for showing believers who may worship in different cultural styles, but who are all united in their love for God. Questions? Write admin(at)

  6. THE DAMARA PEOPLE: PRECIOUS STONES -- Driving through the town of Karibib in traditional Damaraland (Namibia, Africa), one cannot help but notice the precious marble laying everywhere. This is a town that primarily survives on its marble excavation and marble work. Traditionally the Damara have been thought of as miners, partly due to marble excavation such as in Karibib. Even with this work, the town is still poor. But the most desperate need here is a spiritual need. Pray for the Damara people. Pray that they will soon hear the message that they are most precious to God. Pray that they accept this precious message that will make them truly rich for eternity. To adopt the Damara people for prayer or for more information, please visit

  10. GROUPLY.COM THREAT NOT A PROBLEM FOR BRIGADA -- A Brigada subscriber recently asked about Grouply.com, a subscription service (kind of like plaxo on steroids), because it was reputed to be troublesome for those subscribed to Googlegroups and others like it. I was glad to be able to reassure her that Grouply.com only poses a threat for online groups that reveal membership lists to group members. In Brigada's case, the subscription list is completely private -- so no one can access, download, steal, or copy the list. In light of the Grouply.com threat, you might want to consider your membership in *other* email lists (if those lists make the membership list visible to other members), but as far as Brigada is concerned, you're safe. In 13 years of Brigada history, you've never been spammed nor has the list been compromised.

  11. THE BACKPAGE: HOW DO WE HELP A CHURCH EMBRACE THE LOST? -- I'm facing this question now in my own home church, where I'm an elder and where I serve on the worship team when I'm not traveling. Our congregation of 750 - 800 people has, in partnership with Team Expansion, 'adopted' an unreached people group in the Middle East. We set the next 6 months as a period of mobilization and activation, with the hopes that during those six months, God would raise up a team of on- site workers... maybe out of our own church... to go live among the group to become agents of change there and to live out & portray, somehow, the message of Christ. So now comes the question: How do we fire up our church? Say you had 6 months to do so, what would you recommend? Would you give us your time line... give us your slate of ideas? If so, please jot down your suggestions and recommendations at

    http://brigada.org/brigade/?p=65

Just click "Comment" under the item and write away. We suggest you do not put your email address in the text if you don't want it to appear online. Contributions by spammers will be zapped - so no need to try.

  12. CLOSING STUFF -- SUBSCRIPTION INFORMATION -- Important! Please don't just hit "reply". Subscriptions are automated. First, you need to determine the mailing source of your individual copy of Brigada Today. We're now sending them from 2 sources. To find out, just look at the "From:" address of your last edition. The domain will tell the tale. Here's how to do it:

If your Brigadas come via YahooGroups: To unsubscribe, write to brigada-today-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com To subscribe, write to brigada-today-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

If your Brigadas come via GoogleGroups: To unsubscribe, write to brigada-today-unsubscribe@googlegroups.com To subscribe, write to brigada-today-subscribe@googlegroups.com

To change your address, you must unsubscribe using your old address then subscribe anew using your new service. If you are receiving this email via some "alias" that you'd like to unsubscribe, try putting that alias email address in the "From:" box of your email client temporarily, then send the unsubscribe message (mentioned above). It'll probably "spoof" the server into unsubscribing that old address. Then just change your "From:" box back to your new address.

TO SUBMIT AN ITEM -- We love to feature your news & resources! To find out how, read our submission guidelines on the web at: http://www.brigada.org/submissions.html

TO LEARN MORE -- Interested in learning more about Brigada? Read our site at: http://www.brigada.org and you'll learn the who, what, when, why and where of Brigada. By the way, we no longer provide server-sent files via email-activated commands. Just read all about us on the web!

NEED SUBSCRIPTION HELP? -- If you're a sponsor, you can now write to help(at)brigada(dot)org [replace (at) with @ and (dot) with .] and get a real human response. For information about becoming a sponsor, log on at: http://www.brigada.org and click on "Sponsor" in the top line menu. Note that due to the large number of subscribers (literally thousands) only sponsors get human help.

DISCLAIMER -- We can't screen 'em all. Please forgive us if a particular site contains offensive information -- or no information at all! We *try* to visit them in advance, but often write "on the road" so we simply *can't* preview everything.

PLEASE DON'T SUBSCRIBE US TO YOUR LIST -- Sorry -- nothing personal -- but we're already deluged. We'll eventually teach our spam filter to just delete it anyway, but in the meantime, we'll have a sad face because of the volume of mass mailings we receive. :-(

WARNING ABOUT FORWARDING EMAILS -- Just say no! :-) Read our thoughts about forwarding emails at http://www.brigada.org/articles/opc.html

WHY DO WE SAY, "[replace (at) with @ and (dot) with .]"? -- More and more shady marketing types ("spammers" and "scammers") are using computerized searches to harvest email addresses from off the web without asking permission of the owner. We use this "plain English" addressing syntax to avert automated harvesting for our contributors.

PRIVACY INFORMATION -- We will never give your information to anybody. We won't market you, won't hassle you, and won't ever bother you. You won't be signed up for mailings you didn't request. Your address is safe and your future is secure. Life is good. :-)
