  1. BOWLED OVER BY THEIR SACRIFICIAL UNSELFISHNESS -- Please... this week... just stop by this website:

    http://www.nmsi.org

New Mission Systems Int'l is one of the fastest-growing mission organizations on the planet. They also happen to constantly be ranked as one of the Best Christian Organizations with which to work. What's more, they're based in Fort Myers, FL, a great place to train. Finally, they just freely made a $1000 gift to Brigada. That alone merits a stop by their page. [grin] But seriously... 170 missionaries, 24 countries, and counting. Even if you're just curious about them -- why they're growing when other orgs have stagnated? To learn more, just stop by and see their fresh & creative, community-based approach at work. You'll be glad you did. (Thanks Phil! God bless you and your entire organization!)

  2. LOOKING FOR A GREAT VIDEO TO INSPIRE YOUR GROUP? -- If you'd like to promote Asia, try going to...

    http://www.godtube.com/view_video.php?viewkey=6a54d5371f00e3fdd70d

You might find this and other AsiaLink videos at this resource page:

    http://www.historymakers.info/video.html

The Historymakers video has the song within it -- and the music video is ready for use *immediately* in your group or at your event. (Thanks for the tip, Chris, at:

  3. FREE INTERACTIVE ARABIC LANGUAGE TOOL -- Are you learning Modern Standard Arabic? Would you like a free tool to help you practice vocabulary from the widely popular Alif Baa series? Go ahead and check out The Power Tool at this address below. It is fairly comprehensive and customizable to your needs, and best of all, it's free. *Warning* if you contact the maintainers of the web site, they are NOT believers, so please do not assume it is safe to mention missionary kinds of work.

  7. GOSPEL IN THE AIR: DOCTORAL THESIS ON ARABIC CHRISTIAN RADIO -- Arabic Christian radio has a history of over 50 years, but as far as we know, never before was any serious book written on this broad subject. Jos M. Strengholt has now written and published a 996-page doctoral thesis for Utrecht University in The Netherlands. The history of Arabic Christian radio is described from the perspective of question related to indigenization and contextualization. The book can be purchased at a discounted price through

It will be of interest to anyone involved in mission, Arab World, and Christian radio and media in general. Cost: 60 Euro or 90 US$ including S&H.

  8. ACMI'08 CONF ON INT'L STUDENT MINISTRY, MAY 29-31, WASH D.C. -- They're billing it as the 27th annual equipping conference for US/Canadian staff and volunteers in ISM (international student ministry) and leaders of ISMs of other countries (ACMI'08 has no financial assistance). 9. SCHOOL OF FRONTIER MINISTRIES -- The SOFM is an intensive Christian training course beginning with a 12-week lecture/teaching phase followed by field internship opportunities to apply what you have learned. The purpose of the SOFM is to give the candidates the most essential principles and tools needed to start long-term effective church planting movements among unreached people groups. As students grow in their understanding of missions and God's heart for the lost, the organizers desire that a commitment to reach those who have never heard the Good News will deepen. School starting dates: August, 2008 For more information please contact Jose at Sofmcmthai (at)gmail(dot)com [As a means of preventing spam for our contributors, in the preceding email address(es), please replace (at) with @ and (dot) with . then reassemble the addresses back onto one line.] Or check out the website at

  12. THE BACKPAGE: NO WONDER THEY CALL THEM THE SMOKIES -- Confession: I originally booked this 4-day trip to the Great Smokey Mountains (near Knoxville, TN) to attend the Smokey Mountain Star Gaze. Planned on loading up my 8-inch "cat" scope to do a "Messier Marathon" here, staying up all night long to take in the beauty of the night sky. I'm convinced it would have been great. But God had something different in mind. He must have known that I'd stay up and star-gaze all night, then sleep during the day or something. Because since I arrived, none of us has seen any stars whatsoever. (OK... I thought I saw a couple through the clouds on the first night. But even *they* faded quickly.)

So what did I do here for 4 days? Well as I occasionally glanced out my camper window, only to see most of the other guys standing around just complaining about the weather, the Lord has given me 4 days for a unique spiritual retreat, filled with prayer, reading, brainstorming, and recasting the dreams for my life. I'll be honest -- I'm sold-out on the concept of the sovereignty of God. He *had* to laugh as I planned to come here, charting out the Messier catalogue of 109 deep space objects I thought I would observe each night. I truly believe he already knew that *none* of them would show up here. He knew I'd be stuck with reviewing, regrouping, revising, and revisiting my life, my family, my ministry, and the organization I'm tasked with leading. And he, in his infinite wisdom, was right! I needed it... and loved it.

"So thank you Jesus that I drove 6 hours, ascended 3000 feet, only to sit here in the mist, rain and clouds for 4 days. (No wonder they call them the Great Smokies!) Thank you for this time. And now, may you grant this kind of time to all 10,000 of my friends in the world of Brigada!"

    Doug

  13. CLOSING STUFF -- SUBSCRIPTION INFORMATION -- Important! Please don't just hit "reply". Subscriptions are automated. First, you need to determine the mailing source of your individual copy of Brigada Today. We're now sending them from 2 sources. To find out, just look at the "From:" address of your last edition. The domain will tell the tale. Here's how to do it:

If your Brigadas come via YahooGroups: To unsubscribe, write to brigada-today-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com To subscribe, write to brigada-today-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

If your Brigadas come via GoogleGroups: To unsubscribe, write to brigada-today-unsubscribe@googlegroups.com To subscribe, write to brigada-today-subscribe@googlegroups.com

To change your address, you must unsubscribe using your old address then subscribe anew using your new service. If you are receiving this email via some "alias" that you'd like to unsubscribe, try putting that alias email address in the "From:" box of your email client temporarily, then send the unsubscribe message (mentioned above). It'll probably "spoof" the server into unsubscribing that old address. Then just change your "From:" box back to your new address.

TO SUBMIT AN ITEM -- We love to feature your news & resources! To find out how, read our submission guidelines on the web at: http://www.brigada.org/submissions.html

TO LEARN MORE -- Interested in learning more about Brigada? Read our site at: http://www.brigada.org and you'll learn the who, what, when, why and where of Brigada. By the way, we no longer provide server-sent files via email-activated commands. Just read all about us on the web!

NEED SUBSCRIPTION HELP? -- If you're a sponsor, you can now write to help(at)brigada(dot)org [replace (at) with @ and (dot) with .] and get a real human response. For information about becoming a sponsor, log on at: http://www.brigada.org and click on "Sponsor" in the top line menu. Note that due to the large number of subscribers (literally thousands) only sponsors get human help.

DISCLAIMER -- We can't screen 'em all. Please forgive us if a particular site contains offensive information -- or no information at all! We *try* to visit them in advance, but often write "on the road" so we simply *can't* preview everything.

PLEASE DON'T SUBSCRIBE US TO YOUR LIST -- Sorry -- nothing personal -- but we're already deluged. We'll eventually teach our spam filter to just delete it anyway, but in the meantime, we'll have a sad face because of the volume of mass mailings we receive. :-(

WARNING ABOUT FORWARDING EMAILS -- Just say no! :-) Read our thoughts about forwarding emails at http://www.brigada.org/articles/opc.html

WHY DO WE SAY, "[replace (at) with @ and (dot) with .]"? -- More and more shady marketing types ("spammers" and "scammers") are using computerized searches to harvest email addresses from off the web without asking permission of the owner. We use this "plain English" addressing syntax to avert automated harvesting for our contributors.

PRIVACY INFORMATION -- We will never give your information to anybody. We won't market you, won't hassle you, and won't ever bother you. You won't be signed up for mailings you didn't request. Your address is safe and your future is secure. Life is good. :-)
